No Minimize-To-Application Checkbox - 10.6.3

When I go into Sys Prefs -> Dock there is no check box for Minimize to application. What can I do to get it back?

I have, but I might have found out why. My Snow Leopard is only 10.6, but I can't get it to update to 10.6.1/2/3 via the updater. It'll update everything else, but not OS X itself. Any ideas?

  • Minimize into applications doesn't work

I've just noticed that the 'Minimize Into Applications' feature in the Dock System Preferences doesn't work in 10.6.1. Instead, each window is minimized on the right side of the Dock as it did in Leopard. Is anybody else noticing this problem?
Plus, whenever I launch an application, its icon in the Dock doesn't work properly. It doesn't show the white triangle underneath it, and Dock Exposé doesn't work.

Do you have any 3rd party apps that attempt to modify the Finder or Menus, etc.?
If so, confirm they are compatible with Snow Leopard, install updates or remove them, etc.

  • How do you minimize fullscreen applications?

    Hi everyone,
I was playing The Sims 2 earlier and I wanted to look something up on the internet at the same time. Being that I recently converted to Mac, I naturally pressed Alt+Tab (or Command+Tab) and nothing happened. So anyway, is it possible to minimize fullscreen applications in OS X?
    Thanks

Well, The Sims is not a game you want to play in "Window" mode. It's a full-screen one that you could minimise on Windows OS. I am a Mac convert and absolutely love my mac, and I have eventually got used to not doing things the Windows way, which has worked fine so far. But with some things, like minimising the game, it's just annoying not being able to do it yet! (I bet there must be a solution). I've tried fn F12 to minimise the window, as well as combo of cmd + tab, cmd + alt + tab, etc etc etc. Nothing seems to work. In any case, it has to be aspyr or EA games the ones who make a key compatibility in order for OS X users to be able to do this!!!
    Anyone else?? Any answers??

  • Minimize JMenuBar application to systemtray

Hi, I have an application which is entirely a JMenu/JMenuBar setup. I do initially extend JFrame, but never actually "create" a JFrame. Now I've searched quite a bit for help to minimize to the systemtray and found help, however it's always relating to the JFrame. My question is can I minimize a JMenuBar to the systemtray or would I need to use a JFrame and maybe hide it so I can utilize its functionality?
    thanks!

If you have a visible stand-alone program, than of necessity, you have "created" a JFrame or some other root container. You may not know that you are doing this, but you are. How else would Java be able to show it? If you think otherwise, then show your code.

  • Minimize AIR Applications to System Tray.

Hello. Is there any way to minimize our AIR applications to the system tray? Like Internet Download Manager can have it's window closed but still running and appearing in the system tray, and is there also any way to display balloon messages like some programs do? Any one solution would even be really helpful.
    Thank you.

  • Sync applications checkbox is disabled - cannot sync any apps

I just upgraded my iphone to 3.0. To do that I had to upgrade to itunes 8.2 first, which I could only do on a new PC. All my apps and appear fine in my itunes library. I authorised the new computer. When I try to sync, the applications are not syncing and the checkbox on the apps tab is disabled - cannot even click it on ! HELP I have wasted 3 hours already and have lost all my apps on the phone.

You can't sync applications with manually manage music and videos selected, so make sure this isn't selected. Are you syncing contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with a supported application on your computer, and are you transferring photos on your computer, or transferring iTunes music? If so, does your selected iTunes music and photos transfer to your iPhone when syncing, and are your contacts and calendar events synced with a supported application on your computer when syncing?
Have you tried disconnecting your iPhone followed by re-starting your computer, and reconnect your iPhone to iTunes after your computer has re-started to see if this makes any difference?

You can't because that basic model isn't capable of true multitasking. Java apps can either be open or closed, not minimized.

  • Minimize the Mail Application at start up

    Dear Experts
I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1; Configured Mail application and it works perfectly good. Notification center is also working fine.
I have configured it such that, Mail application starts up automatically once I am logged on.
I would like to have Mail application by default minimized at the start up. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi, Kasee.
Rather than minimize the application, why don't you try  using it in another Space.  It won't have to be minimized, and you can call it up almost instantly with a swipe across your trackpad or a keystroke.
Take a look at this from Apple...
OS X Mt. Lion - Work in multiple Spaces
I think spaces is really undervalued in OS X.   I use it all the time.
    I hope this is hellpful.
EDIT - Of course, Spaces is really slick if you're using a trackpad.

  • Apple applications won't restart from dock

I've had this problem with Lion since day one, and although I am now running 10.7.4, the problem persists.
I run a MacBook Pro with mostly standard software. The exceptions are Adobe Flash Player, Flip4Mac WMV, Growl, Perian, Synergy, and Logitech Control Center. Most recent versions of all these products are installed.
I keep all of the applications I use most frequently on my dock. Most of the time I have Mail, iCal, Safari, System Preferences, Address Book, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, Adobe Reader, and Dictionary open. Filemaker Pro, Skype, and Stickies are often open as well. iPhoto, iPhoto Library Manager, and iTunes are only occasionally open.
I generally sleep my computer when not using it. I restart about once a week on average.
If I want to bring one of these applications to the front, I click on the Dock icon. Mail, Safari, and the non-Apple applications ALWAYS come to the front.
iCal, System Preferences, Address Book, and Dictionary hardly ever do. In order to access them, I have to launch Launchpad, then click on the dock icon again since Launchpad does not bring them to the front.
If I minimize the applications instead of hiding them, the minimized icon works, but then my dock has two versions of each application.

What happens if you go to office preferences (from your pulldown menu with Word or Excel open) >> general >> "show project gallery at startup" and deselect that item?
It's also possible that it could be a font that Office does not care for. Try dragging ~(yourhome)/library/fonts to the desktop and logging out and back in or restarting.

  • Applications tab does not work in iTunes 9

I have upgraded to iTunes 9 and 3.1 firmware on my 3GS. When I connect the phone to the computer and access it in iTunes, I cannot use the applications tab.
I see all my applications in the list on the left, but some are unchecked. I can see all my screens load up on the right side of the screen, but I cannot do anything with them. Everything on this page seems "greyed-out", especially the right-hand side. Nothing on this page responds to the mouse except for the "Sync Applications" checkbox and the sync button on the bottom right hand of the screen.
All other tabs are functioning normally...
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your problem is either entirely different, or the cure starts out differently, or at least I didn't explain myself well--sorry. My Restrictions for iTunes and Installing Apps were originally set to "OFF," so those two icons could not be used on my iPhone; I assume that was why my "Applications" tab in iTunes was grayed-out. It sounds backwards, but I had to set my iPhone's Restrictions to "ON" so that those to icons were enabled.
Whatever your iPhone's restrictions are set to, try changing them to the opposite and run thru the entire process Angelo gave me, and maybe a second time again so that you end up with those two Restrictions set to ON. Good Luck!
