No Modem selection In Network Panel

I recently upgraded to OS X 10.4.7, on my PB G4 1.67gHz w/1megDDRAM
I needed to connect to the internet via modem. When I clicked on the Internet Connect Icon in the the toolbar, modem:idle and connect were greyed out. I opened Internet Connect and there was no modem icon. When I opened the Network Preference pane, Network Port Configuration section, no Modem. If I select New from this pane, the dialog does not offer my internal modem as an option.
The Library/Modem Scripts contains my Apple Internal Modem Scripts for v.32, v.90, and v.92.
What has happened to being able to use my Internal Modem?

Egad, sounds like it's bad.
Apple's Hardware Test CD/DVD might diagnose it, or TechToolPro...

  • Error message when opening Network panel

On bootup, my iMac 800mHz (gooseneck) 17" flat panel (OS 10.4.11) is not automatically logging into my home AE network. So, I go to System Preferences and open the Network panel. Immediately, a drop-down error window appears saying "Your network settings have been changed by another application." I click the blue "OK" button on that error window, but it WON'T GO AWAY. I must Force Quit System Prefs in order to regain use of this machine.
I can and do go to the Airport icon in the Menu Bar and select our network, and I am on the network. I can also select "Open Internet Connect" from this same Menu Bar icon, and it does not give me an error message.
Using Disk Utility, I have verified and repaired permissions. I also zapped the PRAM on restart. The problem persists.
After connecting online, this iMac seems to run nominally. However, the persistent error message in the Network panel is not a good sign.
Suggestions? Are there some Library preferences I should remove, etc?

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

  • How to select wifi network BEFORE the Windows 8 Login?

I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop 2 months ago and it came with Windows 8 OS pre-installed. I have no IT support at work for the laptop with this latest operating system. We are a small office w/ no server (on Wifi connections to DSL). I set up my laptop
to auto-connect to one of the 2 wifi networks in the office. We are having a new DSL modem, wifi system installed and they have killed my auto-connected wifi network. Now I can't login b/c I have no network connection and there is no way (that I can see) to
get to the settings menu to select the other network PRE-LOGIN. HELP! If I will never be able to select another network BEFORE I log in, I basically have a $1,000 paper weight on my desk and I'm dead in the water.

    Hi,
Can you log into the local account? Also check whether the wired connect could help.

  • Ipod won't let me into wifi at all not even to select a network. It's been like this ever since I restored my Ipod 4g and it will not let me do anything, not even download music to my ipod, restoring it also lost all of my data

I knew that I needed to update my Ipod (4th gen) but it randomly stopped using the wifi and when I would go into "wi-fi" under "settings" the loading wheel would not stop spinning yet there are 5 wi-fi networks around me. Then I turn my ipod off, then on again and when it turned on it had an icon that was the itunes logo and a usb cord and that was it.. so I plugged my ipod into my computer got onto Itunes and it said that I needed to restore my ipod. I knew that all my data would be lost but now I can't even go into the wifi settings to select a network... it has the wi-fi connection icon(the little arcs) then "Wi-Fi" then across the bar thing it says "No Wi-Fi" I don't understand.. I do have Wi-Fi or else I wouldn't be able to type this on a computer....
How do I hook up the wifi network selections to my ipod???

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why do I have to select my network using Network Diagnostics every time I turn on my MacBook Pro and go to Safari?

Every time I turn on my MacBook Pro, before I can use any programs that access the internet (i.e. iTunes, iBank, etc), I have to go into Safari where it prompts me to perform network diagnostics.  (I use a wep encrypted wireless network.)
During network diagnostics, I select my network and at some point it tells me that my network appears to be working properly and then defaults to the Apple.com webpage.  I then Quit network diagnostics and exit Safari and then I am fine to do whatever I need to in the other programs.
This is quite annoying and I wish it would just remain on my network without me having to do this every time I turn it on.  Is there some thing I can do or some setting that I am missing that would allow me to avoid this?

    Is your network hidden? See:
    WiFi, Internet problems, possible solutions
    Secure your network
WiFi security issues, at home and WiFi hotspots
Change the name of the network and the password, then connect manually and when it asks to save in Keychain do so.
If it's still giving problems and it'a not the router, it's the computer, then go through this list.

I have an iphone 2g unlocked for tmobile.  For the past 2 years it has worked fine then out of no where I get this message "your selected cellular network is no longer available" and the service cuts in and out all day.  It can't find tmobile on my phone for some reason but for 2 years previous it could no problem?  tmobile says it is a problem with my phone and not their service.
    Any ideas what to do?

I would just explain that this just started happening, that nothing has changed on the phone, that it is an original iPhone and I wondered if they are implementing a change in coverage with their Edge network in my area.
If you restore your phone, you will be given an option to back up your phone at the beginning of the process (see step 6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414).  You will be given the option to restore to that backup at the end of the restore process.  Your messages are stored in the backup so restoring to the backup will return the messages to your phone.  Be sure to import your photos and videos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and back up your contacts somewhere before restoring your phone as these sometimesget lost in the restore process.

  • Error joining the selected airport network?

I'm trying to connect to my linksys wireless using WPA with a powerbook but no luck. My password which I know is correct (it's working on another G4 and my wife's Gateway. I get the following message when selected my network. "There was an error joining the selected airport network". I can connect via a neighbor's unprotected network, so airport is working. Other times I've tried it says password is incorrect.

Wi-Fi Protected Access networks normally require a plain-text password or passphrase. But in rare cases you may have to enter a string of 64 delightful hexadecimal characters.
The HEX password is derived from the plaintext password therefore you shouldn't need to create anything new. Check the linksys router for the HEX version of your plaintext password.
The AirPort interface doesn't welcome this wonderful practice by default (imagine that), but it's buried in there for when you need it. Just hold down the Option key while choosing your network from the AirPort menu, then you'll be set to enter all 64 of those easy-to-remember characters.

  • I just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

i just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

Maybe. What kind of other computer are you talking about? What operating system is it running? What kind of wireless router are you using?
Your best bet may be to just reset the router and set it up again.
Just so you know, WEP is a very old security system for wireless and is considered insecure. If you have it available, use WPA2.

  • Automatic selection of network

I know this is simple, but can't find an answer to why it does not work.
I have two manual IP addresses of hardwired networks I access at work. I have built a network port configuration for each one under a single location. I want to enable both so that when I physically go from one location to the other it will select the network that is available at each location. Mac Help says that it should go through the networks and select the one that is available. However, if the network I want is the second in line in the Port Configuration LIst, I have to unclick the first one in order for it to fall through and use the second one.
Maybe port configurations doesn't work the way I think it should.

No... there's a Location switcher right up under the Apple... top/left, click, see Location..., select Location.
There was some APP that looked for a certain Network & connected automatically, but I'm drawing a blank on it's name.

  • Memory error when selecting a network printer in print dialogue

    Hello,
    I have the following situation:
Adobe Acrobat 9.0 was installed with a 30-days trial together with Adobe Reader 9.1.3
    Worked perfectly
I uninstalled the trial and got Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 installed.
From this point on, whenever I open the print dialogue and select a network printer, the application crashes with an memory violation
The instruction at x referenced at y. The memory could not be read.
This happens in Acrobat Pro as well as Adobe Reader.
If the trial worked and the Pro does not, do I have to clean the system somehow before installing the full version?
    Thank you

    Hi JeffWilko,
    What is your current situation?
To receive better analyzation, please provide more details?
    1. Could you explain a bit about the sentence ‘installing multiple printers from the portal’ ?
    2. Check the event viewer and share us the related error log.
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Ping the printers
    2. Check if there are network firewall to block the access

  • Field Selection for Networks

    Hi Experts
I am working on the field selection for Networks. In TCode CJ20N, Network Header Overview, the Resp. Cost Center field (on Assignment Tab) is avialable, however, the same is not showing up in the Field Selection for Networks (TCodes: OPUA, OPUB and OPUC). Similar is the case with Plan Cost Calculation drop downlist (on Control Tab).
How can we define the field selection for these fields?
    Regards
    Shoaib

    AP Thanks for the reply.
As you mentioned, the Resp. Cost Center (PRPS-FKSTL) and Req. Cost Center (PRPS-AKSTL) are available in the WBS on Basic Data Tab Page. However, the Resp. Cost Center (CAUFVD-KOSTV) field is also available on the Network Header Level on Assignments Tab and the dropdown list Plan Cost Calc (CNDOK-NW_PLANCOST) is also showing up in the Network Header, Control Tab Page.
The fields Resp. Cost Center (CAUFVD-KOSTV) and Plan Cost Calc (CNDOK-NW_PLANCOST) are not available in the field selection for Networks as mentioned earlier. The Resp. Cost Center and Req. Cost Center on WBS are available on the WBS Field Selection.
How do we control the field selection for the  Resp. Cost Center (CAUFVD-KOSTV) and Plan Cost Calc (CNDOK-NW_PLANCOST)  on Network Header Level.
    Regards

  • Connecting to wifi select the network but password does not let me join

when I select the network and try to put in the wifi password I cannot join on the wifi

Have you attempted to use a computer to go to iCloud.com and change your password?  If you are successful at that, then do the following:
Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars, click on the iCloud account, scroll to the very bottom of your screen, delete account.  Then go back in and the iCloud account again and put in the new password.

  • HT4628 No matter what I do after selecting my network, when I put the computer to sleep it reopens saying that no network is selected.  I have applied the appropriate network and locked the selection as well as restarted the computer (a windows habit).
