No more Acid Search?

Guess they're not updating Acid Search. It caused problems for me in Safari 3.2 anyway BUT I DO NOT WANT GOOGLE!
Google indexes (captures) web pages with google ads, then when you search for something you get a result based on not only the page content but the google ad... I prefer Yahoo, but Safari for some unknown reason (unless its payola) only offers google search... competition is good.

Hi Krag
An alternative to the default Google Search or AcidSearch would be either 3rd party add on Glims, or Inquisitor.

  • Safari Won't Open--Acid Search Plug-in Not Found

My Safari has refused to open for quite sometime, but I've just now got around to fixing it. (I guess I'm getting used to Firefox.) Everytime I attempt to open it, the icon bounces on the dock and then says: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the AcidSearch plug-in."
I've tried to find the Acid Search plug-in to delete it,
(Home > Library > Application Support > SIMBL
    Home > Library > InputManagers > SIMBL)
but there's nothing in these folders. I attempted to download the Acid Search installer, but I couldn't figure out how to uninstall it. After reinstalling the Acid Search, I still couldn't find the plug-in on my computer.
I'm at a loss for what to do next to get rid of Acid Search! Please help!
Here's the crash report from Safari!
    Thanks,
    Anna

  • Safari 5.0.2 doesn't save any more google search results in the history.

    Hello together,
Safari doesn't save any more google search results in the history.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1.) go to google.com
    2.) search for "APPLE"
    3.) open the history
Result: the search for "APPLE" is not saved - only the Google mainpage.
This has something to do with the new search string in the Location bar. Safari does not save URL with /#.
    For example:
    the new string is http://www.google.de/#hl=...
    the old one is: http://www.google.de/search?hl=....
The change must something to do with the new Google-Search-Feature. When I deactivate it, then google works with the old string and I found the searches in the history.
The second negative effect is, when you type "apple" into the location bar (after a search), the autocomplete shows the search result, but when you hit enter, you are redirected to the Google-Mainpage.
    Very annoying
    Can somebody confirm.
    Thanks

  • Safari 2.0.3 & Acid Search - It still works - FYI

Just thought I would let fellow Acid Search Users know that Acid Search does still work with the latest Safari...
You need to get rid of the Acid Search Package when installing the latest update (or it crashes Safari), but once the update is up and running, re-install Acid search with the installer package and it works fine - phew.
Being a UK user is drives me nuts that the Google bar defaults to Google USA without Acid Search...no offense to my American cousins but when I am looking for something on the web to buy, I dont want to know how much it costs in Idaho!

    OK, it got fixed:
Finally, I just got rid of the "com.apple.Safari.plist" preference, rebooted, and everything went back to normal, and it even seemed to have come back with most of my custom preferences intact. hmm.

  • Acid Search -- how do I get rid of it?

Safari 4.0 won't load due to Acid Search, a useless plugin from last year that I never should have loaded. There is no uninstaller, and all Spotlight can find is the installer. How do I get rid of this plugin?

    HI Stephen,
    ~Library/Input Managers. or ~Library/Internet Plug-ins
Just drag it to the Trash and empty the Trash.

  • Safari won't launch problem with Acid Search plug-in

I have not used Safari for over a year (I have been using Firefox). The error message states: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the AcidSearch plug-in."
How can I fix this so I can use Safari again?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Uninstall the Acid Search plugin.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you uninstall that plugin and Safari still crashes, copy/paste a crash log here so we can get a better idea of what's going on. Open Safari. When it quits, select "report".. The Crash Report will shortly appear. Copy/paste the entire crash report when you reply. If necessary you can find a crash report here...
How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks *like the most recent.*

  • More delicate search capabilities...or advanced search that is!

First, my personal header for most messages I post here:
"I am not a programmer, I know little about sql programming but I´m passionate about it, so I can learn if explained patiently".
    And now to the message:
There´s a table. It´s called "tasks". Now, there´s a search field in which I can typically search in any field of that table. But here´s the thing: my users need to perform more specific searches, meaning advanced ones.
I have created a page with my top 10 forms refering to the 10 most common attributes my users like to filter by, such as: task responsible, due date, status, etc. Each field in this form has a value of course (PX_ID, PX_Status, etc). It has a "go" button and that´s it!
I realised I have to write a query from scratch if I want to use those variables to build a report, and here´s the thing: I managed to do it if, and only of my user completes every search field. When one of them is not completed the result is always "nothing". If the user completes only 1 field, and not the others...he sees nothing!
Of course this version of advanced search easy, just write down the conditions and you´re set! The thing is, and here´s where my knowledge of PL/SQL is not nearly enough to try to figure it out: how do I make this form work, regardless of what the user puts in any field? I mean: how do I make the search work with only the fields completed by the user, without caring that there might be fields empty?
I was tipped to "left join" and "if", but it beats me :)
    Help pls?
    Thanks!

And here comes the footer in case you didnt read the header:
"I am not a programmer, I know little about sql programming but I´m passionate about it, so I can learn if explained patiently".

    Alejandro,
    As one option...
If your table is called PEOPLE and has columns: first_name, surname, email_address etc.. and you have page items like PX_FIRST_NAME, PX_SURNAME, PX_EMAIL_ADDRESS where the user can type in what they want to search for, then your SQL query could be something like the following:
    SELECT * FROM PERSONS
    WHERE
    (:PX_FIRST_NAME is null
    OR
    first_name like :PX_FIRST_NAME)
    AND
    (:PX_SURNAME is null
    OR
    SURNAME like :PX_SURNAME)
    AND
    (:PX_EMAIL_ADDRESS is null
    OR
    email_address like :PX_EMAIL_ADDRESS)
This way it will not matter if a user leaves one or more search criteria items empty.

  • When we type a search item in firefox on my laptop then it shows the result then on second or third or more new search that is typing a new search it sticks to the first searched item

when we type a search item in firefox on my laptop then it shows the result then on second or third or more new search that is typing a new search it sticks to the first searched one

Tried that. Also tried SUPERAntiSpyware, ccleaner, HitmanPro. Removed anything that was reported. Problem persists.
Chrome is also affected. But couldn't find any alternative way of not having Ask.com loaded as did in Firefox.
Internet Explorer was initially affected. After the Ask.com search engine is removed that problem appears to have gone away.
    12/9/2014
Interestingly, yesterday afternoon the Chrome browner new tab no longer hijacked by Ask.com. The symptom was there in the morning and had gone away in the late afternoon. Nothing was done except a few days ago I blocked everything on that page. The problem with Firefox continue to persist I didn't do the same blocking on it. I am going to try the same and then use anti-spyware to clear away all cookies and see what happens.

  • Keywords, what is more important search engines

Which is more important for search engines: keywords in meta
    tags, words in
title pages, words in alt tags, text on page.
I thought I had read that keywords in meta tags was being
    deprecated but I
    could be wrong.

  • Make Searching in CS3 Bridge more like searching within Photoshop Album

For example, in Photoshop album if I wish to see photos that contain BOTH "Tag1" and "Tag2", I click on these two tags and only those photos that contain BOTH of these tags appear.
In Bridge CS3 if I click "Keyword1" and "Keyword2", I see every photo that contains all of these individual keywords. What if I only want to see those photos that contain BOTH "Keyword1" and "Keyword2"?
Please make seraching within CS3 Bridge more like Photoshop Album.

If you click on the match box "all criteria met" seems like that should work as you want.

  • More on search engines

I don't know if this has been passed around much, but I just
    heard about it today:
-Go to Google and type in "failure"
    -click "i'm feeling lucky"
i won't spoil the surprise. but once you see what comes up,
    answer me this:
i've been asking a lot about how google and search engines
work, and i have a better idea than i used to. but this page does
not (at least nowhere i could find) contain the word "failure"
ANYWHERE. so how did they get it to come up first in the search?
It must be an inside conspiracy!!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb
also called 'link bombing' or blog bombing
the reason that page is ranked high for the word 'failure' is
    that the page
is linked TO using the text failure from a couple thousand
    blogs.

  • Are there any more advanced search features for "ctrl+f" (find in page)?

I'm very limited by the current test search features. And I'd like to see some advanced features like:
    1) I HATE that the find bar disappears all the time. I would like it to be visible all the time -- not disappear when I change tabs, or open a new tab.
    2) I HATE that the toolbar is on the bottom and not the top. All my work is done around the top of the window and when I need to enter a something in the find box I have to go to the bottom... very inefficient.
    3) I would like to search for multiple words at the same time. Currently if there's multiple words that I'm searching for in multiple tabs, I have to type in each word individually for each tab. I'm in the process of searching for five word in 20+ tabs... you do the math. Even if I could enter: oneword OR twoword OR threeword OR fourword OR fiveword... this would be very helpful.
    4) The nicest feature of all would be: the ability to highlight multiple links in a webpage and then get firefox-addon to search all the links for any of, and all of, the requested words (ie. oneword, twoword, threeword, etc) This would save me hours and hours of keying in words. AND please note: searching a specific site with google site does not work in most cases as it is not specific enough or Google is for some reason not able to search the site (the site must somehow be search while hidden from the user and then opened in a tab if there are any results -- and I would like the results highlighted).
I have been wanting this for years and am very surprised that nothing like this has been developed... maybe it's not possible to do? (But I doubt is, as I've see greasemonkey scripts that have done similar things...)

One of the problems with finding an addon like this is that I wasn't using the correct search term. I found that if I use "findbar", there are several results. Currently I'm trying out Findbar Tweak. It seems to have a few good options -- that are similar to my wishlist above. But right now I'm finding also that some of the options cause problems, some of which almost freeze Firefox... hopefully the developer will be able to improve a few of these things -- a new version hasn't been released for nearly a year. :(

  • More Safari Slowness

[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; Please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]
There is a real problem with Safari that is not just isolated to something on one machine. I have seen this issue on several Macs. It seems to have been doing this since 10.4.4, or possibly 10.4.5.
When I open a certain number of tabs, or Windows, Safari will suddenly grind to a halt. Looking at processor usage via command-line top command shows me that Safari is using upwards of 85% of processor time. The spinning beach ball and sluggish performance concur with this. Doing such things as changing tabs, changing windows, or even scrolling sends that beach ball into spinning mode.
I have done the usual things... emptied caches, dumped icons, repaired permissions, etc. This is DEFINITELY a problem that was just introduced in one of the last two updates, because it did not do this before. Furthermore, it is doing this on more than one machine.
This combination of websites opened in as a tabset is sufficient to get Safari into this crawling mode.

    Skip, et al . . .
Do you have ANY third party "Internet Enhancing" apps on there? Programs like SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer may need updating. Also Norton apps and Virex can cause havoc.
Also, here's a good list of basics:
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. You might want to check all three "auto" preferences in Safari. Sometimes those lists gets very long and need pruning. (I turned all autofill boxes off, and have no problems.)
    4. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    5. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
    Hope this helps

  • Can I add more than one horizontal separator to the PanelUI (the new panel menu)

    Steps:
    1. Click the new panel menu button (hamburger)
    2. Click Customize
    3. On the left, drag "Separator (for panel menu)" from "Additional Tools and Features" to the panel on the right. A horizontal separator appears. "Separator (for panel menu)" no longer appears in the "Additional Tools and Features".
I can add many "Separator" (vertical separator) to toolbars, but it appears I can only add one "Separator (for panel menu)" (horizontal separator) to the panel.
I would like to add additional horizontal separators to the panel. Is there a way to do that?
    Firefox version: 33.1.1

Yes, I do have Classic Theme Restorer installed (I love it!), but missed these customization nuances. After reading more threads, searching, and reviewing prefs.js, I saw the ctraddon_puib_separator.
A while back, I had problems with vertical separators, specifically with AIOS, and had also looked for horizontal separators. The solution at that time was customizableui-special-separator{d}, where d was a unique digit.
I always found the customization menu to be difficult to use, especially if a buttons addon was installed, mainly because it was unordered. I recently installed Sort and Search Customization Dialog and it has made a world of difference.
I just started changing my FF ways and using the new menu. I wanted to divide up the menu into sections or activities. On top I'd have a row of user tools like history, bookmarks, then a divider and have a row of customization tools, another divider and development tools. The divider which provides the visual separation and grouping is really nice. I hope FF adopts them. I'll take my questions and feedback to the Classic Theme Restorer Forum thread shown on the addon page:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer
    Thank you.

  • How do I use "Search Query" for nontrivial searches?

After a few years in the community, this is my _first_ question to the boards ;-)
In speaking with a colleague today, I learned about an NI forum feature that would be useful for me. When I tried to configure it, I then learned that I didn't know how to use it. When I tried to learn how to use it, I further learned that it wasn't fully documented. So, I'd like some clarification :-)
The feature in question is "Search Query" which will send you an email when a forum search matches your query. What I don't know is:
What are the rules (syntax) for search queries? For example, I would like to search for single words, all the words that I specify, as well as exact phrases. How do I differentiate between multiword queries and exact phrase queries?
Is it possible to have more than one Search Query?
If so, how do you delineate them? Would I use commas, a new line, something else?
I'm asking because the available (and discoverable) documentation doesn't mention what to do when you want more than one Search Query. The help text on the subscription page [1] makes me think that only one query is possible, and says a Search Query:
Sends you mail every time a message matching your query is submitted. Search queries take up to 15 minutes to take effect. Saving a blank query will disable this feature and will stop any mail from being sent.
The other place I tried was the NI Forum FAQ [2], which makes me think that more than one query is possible:
If you add a board, thread, message, or search term to your subscriptions, the system will send you an e-mail every time someone posts to the board, or replies to the message or thread. If you prefer not to receive an e-mail for your subscriptions, you can subscribe to the RSS feed of a board, thread, user, or search term.
The FAQ goes on about what to do with board, thread, and message subscriptions, but doesn't say anything more about search subscriptions.
The last place I looked was on the search results page itself. In the blue header that precedes the results, there's a link on the far left that says "Search Options" with a single option that says "Subscribe to this search's RSS Feed". While I could subscribe and use an RSS reader, I really would prefer email. I suppose if only one Search Query is possible, then this will be my workaround.
As a comment, why does the Search Options menu not also have a "Subscribe to this search" option, which would add another entry in the Search Query box? This is a noticeably different interface than the Thread Options menu.

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for all of the questions and congrats on posting your first question!
Unfortunately I think all of your questions come from the valid assumption that the search query functionality is more robust than it actually is.  The search query functionality really only serves a single purpose and that is to email you when your phrase has been posted to the forums.  For me, I use it to email me when my name is mentioned in the forums.  It serves this purpose well since I have it set up to work off just a single search term.  However I find that multiple word phrases are combined with an OR which is not as useful.  The search query does not adhere to any common search syntax that you would expect (I believe we are the only community that uses this feature so it has not been improved upon).
The best way to set up both multiple word queries and multiple different queries is to use the RSS feed as you mentioned.  This way you can tailor your search very specifically using different advanced search options and subscribe to them all in one feed reader without constantly getting emails.  The search query emails do not adhere to the digest subscription settings.  I find that the RSS feeds work very well for searches and I am fond of using them, but I do use an RSS Reader for many things so it is not out of my normal workflow.
Thank you for reading the Forum FAQ.  I've done some work to improve it but I think it has a long way to go and it's good to know that people read it
