No more bluetooth - phone in address book?

Can I reactivate the bluetooth connection from addressbook to my phone via blue tooth? From what I can find this feature has been removed, is this true??
If the feature has been removed, can I downgrade my OS back to tiger or do I have to totally reinstall? (and ask for my money back for the useless upgrade to leopard?)

Yes, it is true that the Bluetooth features of Address Book have been removed. It's been commented on a few times already:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1196696
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195981
There is no way to "re-activate" this feature because it simply does not exist anymore in Leopard.
If you feel so strongly about this, send feedback to Apple here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
If the only thing you use your Mac for is for connecting to your phone via Bluetooth, and all the other new features are "useless" - why did you upgrade?

  • Bluetooth Dialing in Address Book with Treo 650

    Hi,
I've been trying to use Address book to dial numbers with my Treo 650 via bluetooth. Thus far, I have not succeeded. Does anyone know if this is even posssible with the 650? My phone connects to my PowerBook G4 without problems. However, when I hit the bluetooth button in Address Book, my phone comes alive and looks like it's making a connection, but nothing ever comes of it. When I try to hit the "Dial with cell phone" function in AB after the attempted pairing, it's grayed-out and in accessible. Anyone have any advice on how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    B

Most times this is a Bluetooth/phone compatability issue, rather than an Address Book problem. Try reposting on the Bluetooth page for your particular computer. Look in the Computer Hardware section in the top left corner of the discussions home page.

  • Bluetooth malfunctioning: syncs address book but no calls possible

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 and a 2009 Volvo V50 with Volvo's own bluetooth option. Since I have the iPhone 4, first running iOS 4.1 and now iOS 4.2.1 I have been able to use bluetooth without any problems, with both iOS versions.
Last week however I have connected the iPhone with a USB cable to the USB port of the V50 and I got a bunch of incompatibility messages. I didn't really care because I don't use the iPhone to listen to music in the car anyways, I listen to music from a USB key which works fine too.
However, since the incident my Bluetooth handsfree calling doesn't work anymore!
    Here's what happens:
    1) The car finds my iPhone and pairing works
    2) Once paired, the address book syncs into the car
    3) From the car menu I can see all my recent calls
    4) I can initiate a call from the car, but as soon as the iPhone gets connected, the car acts as if idle- it doesn't see that my iPhone is in a call.
    5) On the display of the iPhone I can select to use "My Car", "Speaker" or "iPhone" and if there I select "My Car" I still don't hear anything over the carkit. In fact I hear nothing at all.
    6) I cannot hang up the call from my carkit, only from my phone.
As I use the carkit intensively this is really a big problem for me. I already restored my firmware through iTunes but that didn't make a difference. What can I do to fix this?

Finally my problem is solved; I found another topic on this forum noting that since iOS 4.2.1 the bluetooth doesn't work for calling voice mail, and all my test calls when the problem first occurred were to my voice mail. Calling other numbers works fine now. Hope Apple solves the voice mail bug soon!

  • Getting contacts added on phone into address book.

I just got my iPhone yesterday and after importing my contacts from my old phone from a .csv file I had over 200 duplicate "no name" contacts. I followed the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2481 and was able to get rid of the duplicates and replace the contacts with what was in my address book. For some reason the force sync where you replace the contents of the phone contact list with your address book contacts did not work so I had to use that.
Now I STILL can not get contacts added on my phone to be entered into my address book after sync. Why is that? I thought the above step was supposed to clear out any issues and force the sync to work correctly?
I DO NOT have Mobileme but I do not think that is necessary for my contacts on my phone to be imported when I sync my iPhone 4.
    How do I fix this

You were not turning in the appropriate direction before and/or in the appropriate stance. Plus the techno gods were not smiling on you.
But I am glad they finally let you sync.

  • Blue Tooth Synch Issues: Phone to Address Book not Working

I am trying to synch my contacts from my Sony Ericsoon to my MacBook and running into some issues.
I can synch the other way with no problems, all the info on my MacBook transfers to my mobile, but not the other way around.
    Example:
Contact A has two numbers in my cell (one that was synch'd and another that I added manually). When I use iSynch it does not move this number from my phone to the MacBook.
If I added the number in Address Book and used iSynch it would move it across to contact A.
I seem to remember a setting where you got to choose whether to accept a MacBook overwrite or a Phone overwrite or it would allow you to review each change before moving/merging daa but I can't seem to find it anymore.
Any idea's or tips will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

It's not a problem that is specific to the MacBook but one of iSync. I too had this problem with a Sony Ericsson K700i (and still do I believe) though I haven't tried it recently.

  • Itunes sync erased ALL contacts from my phone and address book empty

So I must have chose something wrong when I ran a sync and it erased my address book from my iPhone.
What do I need to check or change before my next sync to make SURE all my address I re-entered on my iPhone are synced with address book on mac instead of mac overwriting my phone and wiping them all out again?
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Patrick

I am VERY dissappointed that the alleged 'smart' operation of iTunes sync would so nonchalantly and impulsively erase ALL the contacts on my iPhone.  Can't it at least WARN YOU... "Hey, I'm doing something that most likely 99.9% of people doing this don't want to do, but, screw you, I'm going to do it all the same" -- bye bye contacts.

  • "main" phone in Address Book doesn't sync to iPod

I found that not all phone numbers in Address Book on my iBook were appearing on my iPod contacts after syncing. Apparently, the "main" phone numbers don't sync, while "home" and "work" do...I haven't tried them all. I entered many phone numbers as "main". Do I have to go through all by address cards and change them? Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

I don't really know... iSync on Panther (10.3.9) is really old and it seems much have changed in Tiger... maybe it's a good decision to upgrade

  • Phone numbers/address book

I did a factory reset the other day and I did backup before and restored and have lost all contacts but the names of them appear on call log how do I got my numbers back. There is an open app called enterprise activation and it says address book initializing for my email and has been like this for days. Does this contain my numbers?

Do another factory reset but this time follow these instructions. Then do the restore again.

  • I accidentally selected all of my contacts in my address book and then clicked "Merge cards." I now have one contact in my phone and address book that has a million phone numbers attached to it. Whoops! How can I get my separate contacts back?

This is terrible. I need all of these contacts back. Is there a way to revert to a previous state on my phone/icloud/computer?

IF you have backups to icloud turned on, you can reset the device and do a restore.  This will first delete all on the device and restore whatever you have on the backup.  IF you have backups to itunes that are recent, then you can do the same thing but restore from the itunes backup.
Otherwise, if you also have the data on a computer, then if it's no longer there, you can perform a restore of the contacts file/folder from Time Machine (for macs) or from your PC backup.
If none of the above, then without backups, I'm afraid you've lost the original data.

  • Bluetooth Phone & MBP

My phone is bluetooth and I know it can sync with my MBP and iMac. What I am wondering is if anybody knows if there is any software out there where i can sync them and then answer my phone on the MBP using the builtin microphone and speakers. If there is anything anybody knows about, let me know. If not, I think they should make something like that.
    Thanks a head.

Interesting question. You can definitely use a Bluetooth headset with your Mac (to listen to audio coming from your Mac), since the Bluetooth stack on MacOS supports the handsfree profile. And you can connect your phone to your Mac to sync, as well as get call notifications (e.g., you can go into AddressBook and pair up with your phone, and if a call comes in and caller ID is in effect, it will pick up the matching address card and show you who is calling. Does the same with SMS messages. You can also dial your Bluetooth phone from Address Book.
Note that some of these things won't work on all phones. I can't, for example, dial out through my BT phone, because the one I have doesn't support being triggered externally. But many phones will work fine this way.
I don't think you can turn this around, though, and have the phone pair with the computer such that it thinks the computer is a handsfree headset. At least not as far as I know. It would be a bit tricky to make this happen, because you'd have to convince the Mac's bluetooth stack to publish itself as a handsfree device when it pairs with the phone, and I don't think it's wired that way.

  • Address Book vCards via Bluetooth to Samsung a900 "Blade" cell phone

I'm able to export Address Book contacts as vCards and then import them into one of the new Samsung a900 "Blade" Sprint phones using Bluetooth, but with a couple of vexing problems.
    1. I should clarify that I can import vCards into the new "Blade" cell phone from Address Book via Bluetooth, but only by dragging one card at a time, a very tedious process. Unfortunately, no data transfer occurs if I select multiple cards and drag them all at the same time. I'm using OS X (v10.4.2). Perhaps v10.4.4 and/or a more current AddressBook update will make a difference, or perhaps the problems are solely at the Samsung end...
After activating the paired phone and then launching Apple's Bluetooth File Transfer Utility, I'm dragging the vCards onto the OS X dock icon...
But before I do this, the "No Name" problem is forcing me to manually enter the Company Name into Address Book's last name field for every card that has no personal first/last name. Again, this is necessary just to get the Samsung a900's internal phone book to display something useful for these records (besides listing each record as "No name").
    2. When the phone software sees an entry with a Company Name only (but no First/Last Name entered), it goes brain dead and lists each entry as "No Name" instead of ignoring the empty Name fields and simply listing the Company Name. This is an age-old problem with dumb cell phone software (my previous Sanyo phone did this too). Unfortunately, Address Book exporting is useless without fixing this...Is there a way to get Address Book to format exported vCards to compensate for this shortcoming in the Phone interface?
More info on this phone and Macs is posted on an a900-Mac thread in the Samsung discussion at www.sprintusers.com. The "Blade" is Samsung's new model that copies the look-and-feel of the popular Motorola RAZR, and it is a very nice, if not entirely original, design, and a very hot phone at Sprint right now. It does have a few bugs, but some already have been addressed with a firmware update from Samsung. It's only been out since late November or early December of 2005.
I also cross-posted these questions in the Address Book and Mail forum...

All metioned problems are Samsung's fault. Blame them.
I've been assuming it was a Samsung problem, and have posted help requests in cell phone forums that Samsung engineers and/or support allegedly reads. I was hoping there might be some way to automate a workaround from the computer end...
Now, if Address Book had an option to define the fields that are to be exported or perhaps automatically sub Company Names for last names the problem would be solved when exporting for cell phones. I can't belive no one has ever encountered this before -- it has been a problem with every cell phone I have ever owned.

  • Address book and bluetooth phone

    Hi,
I have been trying to use my bluetooth enabled mobile phone with the address book to dial numbers and send sms. I am using the Nokia N80, Nokia 9500 and the Motorola Razr V3 BLK. But when I pair the phone with address book and click on the tab of the contact, address book loses the bluetooth connection and the Send SMS and dial number options are not highlighted.
I have tried looking around for help, but haven't found anything other than BluePhoneElite. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with this.
    Best Regards,
    Aditya

I have the same problem with my Nokia N70 whereas in the past I've had this address book connection with SE T610 and SE K700i, though with the 610 I had to troop round the re-pairing route a couple of times and with the 700i, I had to wait for Tiger.
If you clear the settings and pair again in the Bluetooth wizard, at the point where the paired services screen shows, the Address Book option is clearly missing. It may be that 10.4.6 has rewritten the configurations for these phones, or it may be that we have corrupted or outdated preference files and perhaps somebody could advise on which files we might check.
It's certainly frustrating to be missing this facility when my phone can both sync and work as a high speed modem through Bluetooth. The Address Book facility may be the lowest priority, but it remains a useful extra feature which I miss.

This facility is usually dependent on your network
I am in uk on Vodafone and it doesnt work here
I use a small program called BluePhoneElite with the v3 and it handles sms and the calls very well
They pop up on the powerbook screen and also the sms save to the powerbook
thats the address you can get a free trial
I paid the small amount and have been very happy with it
Now I wish there was a program to handle landline calls
I am just a happy customer nothing to do with the company before anyone asks!

  • Address Book bluetooth connection to phone disconnects after idle time?

    Address Book 4.0.3 (483)
    Nokia 6680
I think receiving pop-up alerts of incoming calls on your Mac screen is pretty cool and a nice thing to have as and when required.
But in order for this to work, the bluetooth connection between Address Book and the phone needs to be active.
Unfortunately, it seems this connection becomes inactive after a certain amount of inactivity (?), and needs to be activated again with the bluetooth button. How can I keep this connection alive as long as I require it, without having to constantly use it, or keep pressing the bluetooth button?
    Thanks in advance.

I have to turn Bluetooth off, then back on & turn keyboard off then back on & it works now without having to restart the computer. I did disable the box for allowing Bluetooth devices to wake the computer since my mouse isn't Bluetooth.

  • Bluetooth interface problems: Nissan Altima vs. My Address Book

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima w/the connection package, and I attempted to integrate my Blackberry 8830's contact list w/the car's phonebook.
So far, I've been able to transfer my address book to the vehicle's database (under Options>Bluetooth>Bluetooth Handsfree>Transfer Address Book), but I am not able to utilize any of the data that has been stored there.  I still have to input my contacts manually in my Altima, using voice recognition.  Any help?
    -A.M.

From what I hear, Motorola is not releasing the commands to make this work. They are charging an upfront fee and a per user licensing fees for the AT command set.
Also, people are recommending BluePhoneElite to handle these functions. I do NOT recommend purchasing that program for the RAZR V3. Parts of it work, others do not. For ex. every time you sen an SMS message, you get an error. Sometimes the message gets ou, sometimes not. They have a trial version to try, if you want to try it.
Also, don't bother asking Apple about this. They are getting more and more arrogant lately towards their loyal customers like us. You can ask them questions until you're blue in the face: Their response: Silence!
