No more duplicating pages in a PDF in Preview?

Maybe I'm the only person in the world with this need, but I am really going to be in a world of hurt without it.
I need to have a particular one-page PDF used multiple times throughout a multi-page PDF (it's the order of worship repeated multiple times through a collection of the digital copies of all the music to be used in the worship service). In Leopard and before, it was simply a matter of option+drag to create multiple copies of the service plan. Now, however, I can't seem to find a way to do this AT ALL. This is a HUGE impedement to my work flow! Any ideas? (Saving my PDF multiple times as actual separate files on my hard drive is just WAY too inelegant as solution--it's what a Windows user might do--so if that's the only idea anyone can come up with, keep that recommendation to yourself. I'm just not going to stoop that low--there HAS to be a better way!)
So, if the question isn't obvious, here it is: In the new(ish) version of Preview, how do I duplicate a page? Or, is there some way to use the same PDF file multiple times in a PDF?
NOTE: option+dragging thumbnail does not do this. At all. The little + badge shows up with the ghosted page image, but the duplicate never materializes.

It still is on my machine. I replicated Llessur999's actions with the same results.
(1) Single-page PDF: Cannot duplicate pages by option-drag in Sidebar. (However, I can convert a single-page PDF to multi-page PDF with Edit > Insert Blank Page.)
(2) Multi-page PDF:
(2.1) Can duplicate any page by option-drag in Sidebar.
(2.2) Can drag-and-drop repeatedly the same PDF (single- or multi-page) from Finder to Sidebar, and it is added to the open PDF document each time.
It seems to me that this pretty much takes care of the workflow you described.
Your issue is not changing your workflow, but troubleshooting Preview and PDF. To begin with, I'd want to make sure there's no problem with the PDFs themselves, so I'd create a few test files from, say, TextEdit, using Print > Save as PDF, and then use them in Preview to see if the problem persists. If it does, then it's the usual routine -- delete Preview's prefs (there are three), if that doesn't work, the guest account, and so on.
As to Combine PDFs, the current version is 5.2 (updated for Lion) and it is shareware. Version 3 was open source (the source code is still available), but it was not free -- it was donationware. It became shareware with version 4.

  • Appleworks only prints blank pages ( whether printer, PDF or Preview)

    I am at the end of my rope.
    Since updating to 10.4.7, none of my Appleworks database pages work properly. The one that has customer’s special orders in it prints, previews and pdfs only blank pages.
    The Appleworks database we use to place vendor orders will only print from preview. No direct-to-printer or pdfs will work.
    Both databases reside on the a MacBook Pro in the front of the store. From that location:
    1. Won’t print anything but blank pages
    2. Won’t preview anything but blank pages
    3. Won’t PDF anything but blank pages
    I transferred the database to the G4 PowerBook in the back office. Same story, in all cases. It is also running 10.4.7.
    We are using Appleworks 6.2.9...the same version we’ve used since its release.
    I’ve trashed both the prefs and the p.list. Still nothing.
    Our customer and vendor files are critical to operation of the business...we simply have to get them out. HELP!
    MacBook Pro, G4 PowerBook, G4 tower   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello paperqueen,
    In the first place-
    Can you print a newly created WP document of AW6 in problem machines under OSX10.4.7?
    Can you print a newly created DB document of AW6 in problem machines under OSX10.4.7?
    The common factors in the two machines are not limited to OSX10.4.7.
    * Problem DB is in common.
    * User account problem may be in common. (e.g. certain customization in common)
    So it is really an important test to create a new user account and check whether problem persists in the new user account. I repeat this because you seem not have done it in spite of Yvan's suggestion.
    Also if the problems have occured since 10.4.7 update, re-applying Combo 10.4.7 updater (after repairing permissions) may clear things up.
    Anyway, if you're using any input method, the following thread may be relevant:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=455765&tstart=0
    Also it has been reported in Japanese Apple Discussions board that OSX10.4.7 introduced new problem in printing, that is if file name contains Japanese character, print to PostScript printer should fail. (PostScript error should occur)
    So, if your file name contains, e.g. non-ASCII character, this might be relevant.
    Good luck,
    H

  • I can not print more than page one of PDF file I have loaded with 2013 version Firefox; I am able to with IE. Vista Home Prem is my OS and I have a 64 bit Dell

    I have the most current version of MS Home Premium Vista. I run it on a 64 bit Dell Studio Laptop.
    I have just started suing Mozilla Firefox 2013 Beta version.
    I usually used Firefox vs IE as my browser and have my Yahoo email set as my home page.
    When I tried to print a a several page PDF file I was accessing using Firefox, all it it print previewed and ultimately printed was page one. This happened regardless of the PDF file (e.g. those on the IRS.gov website). When I switch over to Internet Explorer and try to read the same files, I have no problem.
    On 2012 versions of Firefox I had no PDF printing problem. I do think there is a bug in the latest version.

    Top left (Orange) Firefox button, Print, Print Preview. Does everything look correct? You may also click the icon that looks like a "DISK" to save, which allows you to save it to your computer and CTRL+P will allow you to print.

  • Removing a page from a pdf in preview?

    I scanned some documents into a pdf, but accidentally scanned the same document twice. Is there a way to remove that one duplicate page without having to rescan a whole new pdf file?

    Have you tried simply highlighting the surplus page in the right hand sidebar, and then hitting the "delete" key?
    Should work for unprotected PDF's that you have created through scanning, printing, etc.

  • Extract a page from a PDF document

    Can I extract a page from a PDF using Preview? Under Windows using Adobe Acrobat Pro you can extract a page from a PDF, so I was wondering.

    Under Windows using Adobe Acrobat Pro you can extract a page from a PDF
    Under Mac OS X, using Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can do the same thing.
    But there are a few free utilities to do the same thing, as mentioned.
    For the Print option mentioned, you can also use the Quartz filters to compress the "printed" PDF.

  • Re: Can't print more than one page of a PDF

    I have Acrobat and Reader 9.3.3. With either program I can't print more than 1 page of any PDF despite changing settings. What will fix this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Adobe strongly recommends that you should NOT have Acrobat and Reader installed on the same system. They have the bad habit on stepping on each other's files. You do not need both programs to read PDF files.
    You should uninstall Reader and repair Acrobat. I also recommend that you restart after removing Reader and after repairing Acrobat.
    Good luck.

  • Having difficulty converting more than one page of a PDF to Excel.

    I am using Adobe Acrobat 10.0 to convert PDF files to use in Excel. I am working with PDFs that have several dozen, if not hundreds of pages, almost all of which contain very lengthy tables. I need to have these tables saved in a format accessible by Excel, but I am running into a bit of difficulty. Whenever I convert a PDF, I can open it in Excel and find that the very first page of the PDF has converted over perfectly. Any headers are properly placed. Any tables are perfectly aligned, spaced, and appropriately divided among different columns. All information is laid out fine. All the information from the second page on is crammed into the first column.
    I have tried to save the PDF as an Excel workbook, and I have tried selecting just the tables and exporting them to Excel. I get more or less the same results whatever I try. I can convert a single page at a time without any problems, but since I have thousands of pages of tables to convert, you can probably understand why I want to find a solution to this. I need to be able to convert over multiple pages without having all of the information from tabels within the PDF getting placed into the first colum. Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • HT4356 How do you conver a Page document to PDF when there is no printer available

    I purchased a $400 printer last year..now I cannot use it with my IPAD3 because it has to be an Air Print printer.
    I need to convert my Page document to PDF and the only way to do that is to go to Print a document...but, when
    I get there it tells me that I don't have a printer...Therefore, I cannot get to PDF conversion...
    I thought Apple have an incredible group of smart software engineers  ...what happened?
    Now, I have to go and buy another $400 printer to be able to convert a document to PDF?
    I bought this IPAD3 for my wife since she is not a computer expert but, so far I see that this is a  product more compicated than a personal computer.
    The hardware is great but,  so far my wife has a hard time to use the Apps I got for this IPAD...I'm a software programmer working for a major computer company and I also have a hard time trying to get these functions to work...

    Under "Share and Print", tap "Email Document", then choose PDF. Alternately, tap "Sent to iTunes", "Copy to iDisk", or "Copy to WebDAV" and then choose PDF...

  • How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

    Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format  and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
    So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?
    Using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7 Pro SP1.

    The best you can do practicably is the 'two up with cover page' view mode. The first page will appear singly but not centered, and to get the last page to behave it would have to be a folio sheet.
    It's theoretically possible to use JavaScript to reset the view mode as each page is changed, but it makes for a nightmare of usability (what if someone on a smaller display wants to use 'fit to width'? Not an option if JS keeps overruling it). Anything involving JS won't work on non-Adobe software or mobile devices.
    Not a programmer by any means, so I won't be using JavaScript because I wouldn't know where to begin. I was thinking more in terms of an option I could adjust in the menus or dialogues.

  • How do change the sequence of pages in a PDF file. Need to move page 3 to 12

    How do I change the page sequence in a document. eg Want to move page 3 to 12

    Hi leoniep,
    To reorder pages in a PDF, you need to use Acrobat (you can drag the page thumbnails to rearrange the pages). If you don't have Acrobat, you're welcome to try it for free for 30 days. See http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

  • Open specific page in a PDF file?

    Hi!
    I wonder it it's possible to link or set parameters so that the user ends up on the correct page in a PDF file. Lets say that I would like to link to chapter 3 in a large PDF file. Is this possible in the DMS?
    I can't use TREX for indexing because that's not implemented.
    Best Regards,
    Kristoffer Pehrson

    hi,
    Instandard SAP DMS, u con't link like what u explained. fro that sap made an option. U could utiliz DIR key's 'PART' u can use as many as sheets of PDF as ur DIR.
    One more thing i think u misunderstanding SAP DMS, it is a tool deals Thechnical document and is used in PLM area. in integrates SAP logistics.
    Ucould use SAP Archive LIkn for this purpose. or u coud split PDF before link into DMS.

  • How can I get a total page count of a PDF before placing every page in the PDF?

    Before the [long] spiel, I'm using javascript in InDesign CS3.
    I'd like to create a script that places a multiPage PDF in any number of different impositions. (saddle stitch, 4up signatures, 16up signatures etc.)
    I've easily created a script that iterates through a PDF and places it into a new document as (4,1|2,3), (8,5|6,7) etc, which works for printing in duplex, folding each page in half, and gluing the resulting spines to make a simple thick book (for PDFs with more than, say, 64 pages).
    However, the next step is to re-write the script to create a saddle stitch document (16,1|2,15), (14,3|4,13) ... (10,7|8,9). For this I need to know how many pages there are in the PDF before I start placing the PDF pages, and then making the new document [int((PDFpages+3)/4)] pages long.
    Is there a simple way to get the count of PDFpages without going through a loop and placing the next page from the PDF until the placed page number equals the first page number?
    This way seems wasteful:
    var totPDFPages = 1;
    app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = totPDFPages;
    myPDFPage = sheetFront.place(File(srcPDF), [0,0])[0];
    var pdfFirstPage = myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber;
    while (doneCounting == false) {
    totPDFPages += 1;app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber = totPDFPages;
    myPDFPage = sheetFront.place(File(srcPDF), [0,0])[0];
    if (myPDFPage.pdfAttributes.pageNumber == pdfFirstPage) {
    totPDFPages -=1;
    doneCounting = true;
    alert("PDF has " + totPDFPages + " pages!");exit();
    myPDFPage.remove();
    NB. Javascript above *hasn't* been run, but should look similar once debugged.
    The only thing I've though of to relieve the sheer duplication of placing the PDF twice (once for the count, and once for the imposition), is to create an array of impoPages[counter]=myPDFPage, and then shuffle the pages referenced by the array to the correct sheet and position.
    It'd be much easier to be able to assign pageCount = File(srcPDF).pageCount !!!
    Thanks for any help/tips or even a simple "What are you smoking, man!?"
    Cheers,
    Jezz
