Yes I have tried installing 7.1.1.5 and still have the same problem. I tried calling support and initial response was "it is Windows XP SP2 problem". After I asked for a supervisor I got another tech on the line who spent 1 1/2 hours with me on the phone formatting ipod, deinstalling and reinstalling all Apple apps as well as renaming drives. Nothing helped. He said he would file an issue with Apple engineering team. I hope they will come up with something. It is very unfortunate that I already has killed so much of my time trying to troubleshoot this issue.

  • "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes

    Hi,
I am using Leopard (OS 10.5.8) with itunes version 10.6.3 (the highest version that Leopard will run). I accessed my Leopard itunes library from another mac in my house that was running Mountain Lion and itunes 10.7. I did this so that I could use some itunes scripts that would only run in OS 10.6 or higher. Using the Mountain Lion mac and the scripts I deleted many titles in my Leopard itunes library, and deleted many duplicate files in from my itunes library.
Now, when I try to open  itunes on my Leopard machine, I get this message:
The file “iTunes Library” cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Of course, I cannot run a more current version of itunes, since I am using Leopard. I realize that I could revert to a backup of my itunes library, but that would undo all of the changes I made to my itunes library. Is there a way to edit something that would allow me to open itunes with my current library? I am not planning to upgrade the Leopard machine at this point.
    Thanks for any advice.
    -Joe

I don't know if trying to import the .xml version of the library gets around version specificity but I doubt it.
Opening iTunes with a newer version irreversibly converts the library file to that version.  You can, as you say, use the copy put in the "Previous iTunes libraries" folder when you first opened with the newer version.

  • I recently uninstalled iTunes on my Windows 8. I reinstalled it, now iTunes won't come up. All it says is "The file "itunes library.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

A couple hours ago I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.1.2 or the newest version of iOS (not 8). When it finished, I turned it on and it showed a charger at the bottom of the screen and in the middle, an arrow, and at the top it showed the iTunes icon. I've never seen this before, so I took it as I needed to plug my phone up into my laptop? Well the first thing it said when I plugged it in, it said something like it can't be used until it's turned on. I updated it and it messed up even more, which caused me to uninstall all of the apple inc. software. I reinstalled iTunes and now when I try to open it, all it says is "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." First, what does the charger and iTunes icon mean when I try to turn my phone on? And how do I fix iTunes on my laptop?

    Hello there, livviboobear.
It sounds like your error message is in regards to having installed an older version of iTunes on your computer. The following Knowledge Base article offers up the step-by-step on how to properly uninstall iTunes:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Once uninstall, follow the link in the article to get to the most current version of the iTunes installer.

  • I get the error message itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes

    Hi,
I had my pc reformatted and win 7 64 bit installed. As I have come to put everything back on the pc I accidently installed the 32 bit version of iTunes. I realised this when certain functionality wasn't working.
So I uninstalled itunes and all the associated software, bonjour etc etc and have d/l the 64 bit version.
Now when I try to start up iTunes I get the "itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes" error message and the application will not load.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dave

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

  • Still could not launch iTunes due to itunes library itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes

    Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash
Even I uninstalled iTunes 11 and installed iTunes 10.7, still shows due to itunes library itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.
It bothered me for whole week, I could not update my iPod, neither my iPhone and iPad, please help.

Hold down shift as you start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click create. Make a new library at the root of a drive called iTunes Test, e.g. C:\iTunes Test or D:\iTunes Test. This should establish that iTunes itself is working. Where is your active library supposed to be?
For general advice if iTunes itself has a problem see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies. You should normally install the current version of iTunes.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes corrupted, must be reinstalled. Now 'the file iTunes Library itl. cannot be read, created by newer version of iTunes.'

My iTunes programme on Windows PC has suddenly become corrupted and must be reinstalled. After two attempts, I installed the requisite 64 bit version, but it won't open as "The file 'iTunes Library itl.' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  Where do I go from here (bearing in mind very little technical knowhow!)?

There are two things you can try here:
If you updated fairly recently, you can recover a backup copy of the library file made when you updated.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967?viewlocale=en_US
This gives you the library as it was when you updated.
Or you can recreate your library from the xml file, this will be more up to date, but not all the metadata is recovered.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
At the end of the article it tells you how to add files you your library if you don't have an xml file.
Anywhere it tells you to drag a file to the trash in either article, I would drag it to the desktop or another folder of your choice in case you need it later.
The second article also include links to general troubleshooting if iTunes will not start after recovering/recreating your library.

  • Itunes can't read library because of newer version

What can I do? Cant use Ipod touch because after I downloaded new version of itunes; msg says can't read old iTunes library because newer version is installed. Thanks for any help.

  • How can I use a newer itunes library with an older version of itunes on a different computer?

Hi there. We are running iTunes 10 on our (1.5-year-old) iMacs with the entire music library there.
I also have an old iMac G4 (for those of you who remember what that is :-) sitting in the living room that we use for watching DVDs and listening to music. The G4 is running iTunes 9, as it obviously is stuck with OX Tiger. I've last updated the music library on that machine probably about a year ago at which stage it still worked (by copying the library across from the other computer).
Now it doesn't work anymore. If I copy iTunes library over, I get an error message saying 'this library was created with a newer version of iTunes'. So that's no good. So what can I do without having to re-purchase and re-import music and re-set up playlistst etc? Surely that must be possible, they cannot just forbid me to use my own music that I've even purchased through iTunes? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Felicity.

In the iTunes folder on the G5...
    Delete the file iTunes library.itl.
Move the iTunes library.xml (or iTunes Music library.xml) to the desktop.
    Start iTunes.
iTunes menu File > Library > Import playlist and select the iTunes library.xml you moved to the desktop.
You can then delete the file on the desktop.

  • I have the following error The file "iTunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes

Can anyone help me with this problem.  I tried updating the latest itunes and it caused an error MSVCR80.dll missing.  I then tried fixing it after reading other people had the same problem and a solution was given about uninstaling itunes and the order in which to do that.  I did that but now get the error "the  files "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created with a newer version of itunes.  I see a solution has been given about this but I cannot find what is suggested to enable me to follow instructions.  Can anyone please go through step by step (letting  me know where I can find what is needed) to enable me to be able tio log into itues again.  Thanks

    Hi pussygalore,
If you are having issues with iTunes after an attempted update, you may find the following article helpful:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
You may want to make sure that in the last step (reinstalling iTunes) that you are installing the latest/newest available version, and not attempting a reinstall from an older file.
