No more memory and Framemaker stops

That is proabably not a great title...
Anyway,
Ever since I have gotten my 64 bit computer, FM has been awful. I have FM10, Windows 7, 16GB RAM.
When I make a pdf, it, of course as usual takes forever. But now it stops responding and never refreshes. I get an out of memory message sometimes, but I alwasy have to shut it down. Then to open my book, I have to reset every file in the book to use it and update...ect....
Is there something I can do?
It is only using 3.5 GB memory to make the file, so my computer isn't running out of memory.
Thanks,
ls

There doesn't seem to be any way to specify a temp folder or 'scratch drive' within Distiller's own preferences, it is just hardwired to use Window's temp folder. (Funny that - for instance, Photoshop and Illustrator allow you to specify a scratch drive in their preferences...)
But as Error7103 says, it's straightforward to change the location of Window's TEMP and TMP folders by editing that environment variable in Control Panel.
In general though, you can usually make great strides at cleaning up your drives by:
1. Uninstalling any applications you don't want/use (have a look in Control Panel > Programs and Features and see what's there - you may be surprised by some of the junk you've accumulated that you never use......)
2. Run Window's own "Disk Cleanup" utility (and make sure to check the "Clean up System Files" option) and then tick all the checkboxes to clean everything.... for instance, installer files for Windows Updates can be hogging gigabytes
3. Download "CCleaner" from the Internets and run it - it does a very good job of cleaning up junk from many common 3rd party applications that Windows' own Disk Cleanup obviously doesn't know about.
for instance, graphics drivers are a common one, every time you update an NVidia or AMD(ATI) graphics driver, it usually plonks the installer files in somewhere like C:\AMD or C:\NVidia and there can be a Gig or two in there, which you can safely jettison (these aren't the installed drivers, they're just the installers).
(NB of course, you may wish to make sure you take a system backup before really going to town on this kind of spring cleaning, just in case something goes wrong... But then you routinely back up regularly anyways and don't need me to tell you that, right? )

  • I keep getting a "Not enough storage to back-up my device" message since I upgraded to the new software. Short of purchasing more memory, and deleting some content, are there any other options?

    What are my options for increasing storage capacity besides purchasing more memory, or deleting existing content. The new software install used up much of my storage capacity and the message is driving me crazy. Any ideas?? Thanks!

    There are two kinds of storage messages that appewr on iOS devices. Your question seems at odds with your description so there might be some confusion here.
    If the storage refers to not enough for an icloud back up then you need to purchase more icloud space or turn off iCloud backup. You can backup using iTunes on your computer with paying for additional iCloud storage.
    if the storage refers to that on your iOS device as in there is not enough storage to update, then you have two options and neither option involves adding more storage since the amount of storage on an iOS devoce is fixed. One option is to delete stuff from your device to free up more space. The second option is to complete the update while your devoce is connected to your computer running the latest version of iTunes. When you do that the update is downloaded to your computer and extracted there so it doesn't require as much free space on your iOS device.

  • Why does Firefox keep grabbing more memory and never releasing it until you have to restart it?

    Firefox starts out taking up a relatively small amount of memory, but with use it takes more memory (1,000K) which is never released even when tabs are closed. I run Firefox on a Pentium HT system, 4GB RAM, Win XP Prof and on a Core i3 system, 4GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and see the same behavior on both systems. Is anyone working on a fix for this? I did not include the troubleshooting info because it made the question too long to post.

    The problem is not in restarting, the problem is that Firefox (8.0.1 in my case) starts out grabbing about 300,000 K according to the task manager and keeps on gobbling up memory until it gets up over 1,000,000 K at which point it usually crashes. The point at which it crashes is usually between 1,000,000 K and 1,500,000 K. It also grabs an enormous number of processor cycles from time to time; enough processor cycles and memory that Norton 360 posts an alert.

  • Changed my DVD player, added memory and itunes stopped working...

    I'm frustrated. I recently added a DVD player to my PC and itunes stopped working properly. It gave me a "Warning: Registry settings used by itunes devices for importing & burning cd & DVD are missing by installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.".
    I uninstalled and installed itunes again using the control panel and I get the EXACT same warning after reboot! Does anyone have a clue as to the problem?
    I go to play song in my library and it passes over my selection down the library of many new albums that I installed, and stops on the older album installs and plays only those albums. Very frustrating that they offer no itunes software support.

    It gave me a "Warning: Registry settings used by itunes devices for importing & burning cd & DVD are missing by installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.".
    In this context it's almost certainly a device filter conflict in the Registry. The following document would be the best place to turn next:

  • Is xml is  more Memory and CPU stealer then text files

    Is XML steal CPU and Memory usege more then reguler text files ?
    if yes then how mutch?
    Thanks itzik.

    XML is not a better way to parse data than text or fixed length. It is a STANDARD way for everyone to parse/send data.
    With a fixed length/text file, you had to know the exact position of every field. With XML, the fields describe themselves. Obviously, since the fields are no longer implied, the tags that label each element will increase the size of the file.
    The tradeoff is that DOM/SAX parsers offer an industry wide standard for parsing this type of data. With a DTD (or Schema), you can also include the required format of the doc to enforce the structure where with a text file you usually had to distribute a document with mappings.

  • Why is firefox 7b using a lot more memory and cpu on my computer?

    I'm trying firefox 7 beta in a debian squeeze box. It is using a lot of RAM and CPU compared to previous releases of firefox(I've tried disabling all plugins and add-ons, not a big improvement). In the follow link here is a summary from about:memory, websites tabs opened at that time and the usage of % mem and cpu of my system: http://pastebin.com/8ji1gmLk
    I'm using firefox on all my computers for a while now. So changing the browser is not an option for me now.
    It did crash few times when loading a lot of tabs. Please let me know if there is another information that would be useful for fixing this. Thanks

    Is it using a significant amount more resources than 6.0 did?
    I noticed 6.0 is a VAST resource hog over 5.0 and earlier. It's a very bad flaw in the new version, and has a lot of people upset.
    What has me curious is whether this is a new resource problem or whether it was present in 6.0 and you are just not noticing it.
    One suggestion: Don't run BETA versions of ANY software on "all your machines". Not when rolling back the version is not an option. That's generally a bad idea, since beta versions are likely to have bugs.
    With FF, now, I would never let it automatically update. I don't trust their new update policies, so I would suggest you turn "auto updates" to OFF, and do it manually, only after you hear the new release is stable, which we know 6.0 is NOT.

  • Can my old iMac be upgraded for more memory and higher processor speed?

    I admit it - I'm not a computer geek.  I don't know much about how they work but am proficient in using them.  I have an older model iMac.  The specs are:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac6,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 1 GB
      Bus Speed: 667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
      SMC Version (system): 1.10f2
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    I get the SBBOD all of the time no matter what.  I've tried all of the suggestions to resolve that issue but they don't work.  Even when only one program is open at a time it does it.  The speed of getting anything accomplished has been dramatically reduced over time.  All of my software is up to date.  All I need to know is, if I take my iMac to an Apple store, can they upgrade the RAM or whatever is needed to make the SBBOD go away and make things work faster?  Sorry for sounding like a dummy here but I'm really not interested in how it works, just that it does work.
    Thanks for any help you can give!

    I did the etrecheck as suggested and here is what it came up with.  Does anything look suspect?

    If I start FF4.0 in safe mode the memory used stays around 500 Mb and is stable over a day at least.

  • Why do my apps say I need more memory and always crash when I have more than 4 gigabytes of space free?

    So, I have over 4 free gigabytes of space on my iPhone, but whenever I open apps these days they either crash without warning or give me a pop up warning that says I'm running out of memory space, then crash. How do I find out how much memory I have and how do I clear some space?

    You can look in the setting of you iPhone or plug it into iTunes and look at the bottom of the screen to see how much space you have.
    To free up space, remove content from the iPhone.

  • I bought my 20" iMac in Nov of 2007 and when I try to purchase the upgrade for lion I'm told I need 2GB of memory and I only have 1GB.  How can I get more?  I am currently running snow leopard

    Trying to upgrade to Lion on my 20" iMac that I bought in Nov. 2007.  Currently I'm running on MAC OS X version 10.6.8.  When I tried to buy the upgrade I got a response that Lion requires 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB.  How can I get more memory and will my computer be compatible with Lion when I do get more memory?

    Yes you can install more RAM. Up to 6 GBs. Two - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMMs. For the maximum use one 4 GB and one 2 GB. Otherwise install a pair of 2 GB modules for a total of 4 GBs.
    You can purchase suitable RAM at DataMem or OWC. OWC also has video tutorials on installation.

  • HT201364 To install Mavericks, you need at least 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB. Can I load more memory?

    Can I load more memory and where do I purchase it?

    Yes, you can, though you'd need to tell us your exact model of iMac before we could tell you specifically what memory you will need and how much you can expand to. There are a number of good vendors; I've used Crucial and Other World Computing (OWC). Both have been of high quality and good service, and either can tell you exactly what you'll need for your iMac. Other folks here may have additional vendor recommendations.
    I'd definitely recommend expanding beyond 2GB. It won't cost that much more and your performance is almost sure to be better than if you just get the minimum 2GB.

  • SQL Server Memory And Di Object

    Hello Experts
    I'm doing a loop which use some DI Objects. This loop occurs more than 80 000 times.
    In this loop I manage a BusinessPartner Di Object like that
    private static SAPBobsCom.BusinessPartners myPartners;
    while(...)
    myPartners = (SAPBobsCom.BusinessPartners)Di.GetBusinessObject(oBusinessPrtners);
    myPartners.GetbyKey(...)
    //treatments
    //Sometimes
    myPartner.Add()
    myPartner.Update()
    //Always
    System.runtime.....releaseComObject(myPartner)
    GC.Collect();
    GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();
    It works fine but the sqlServer Process take more and more Memory and arrive to 1 200 mb RAM.
    I have to re-start the SQL Server Service to erase memory, no DBCC query work.
    have you any Idea to stop this memory grow ?
    Thanks a lot for Ideas...

    Hi Julien,
    The amount of memory that SQL Server takes should level out. When you run an intensive process the memory manager will start taking chunks of memory to boost performance. Typically it won't release this memory unless the server is low on physical memory and another application requires more memory. However, when you next run the process, SQL will use up the RAM that is already available to it before requesting more. This should mean that your process will not take any significant extra memory next time it is run (assuming the same workload at the time).
    SQL will typically only have a 100MB footprint when it has just been started. On a production system, I would expect to see 1-2GB of memory being used by SQL on an average SBO site (more for larger sites and more if the client uses large XL Reporter reports or query intensive addons like Fixed Assets).
    Although SQL Server 2000 was a little prone to leaking memory, I have not known this to be the case in SQL 2005.
    Have you tested running your script twice in a row?
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • A process named "update.exe *32" and description is "Firefox" keeps using a lot of memory and cpu; the longer forefox is on, the worse it gets. How to prevent?

    using Windows 7, firefox 15.0.1
    This process uses more and more memory and CPU, sometimes there are several of these processes running. If I kill these processes, it doesn't seem to affect the utilization of Firefox. Then the process slowly starts to use more and more memory and CPU all over again.
    This happens all the time, every time I use Firefox.

    I do not have a ComObjects folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files. That is not part of Firefox.
    wscript.exe is a utility included with Windows to run scripts at the system level. It generally is not used by major programs. If update.exe is starting up with Windows, you may be able to find the script that wscript.exe is running using [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx Autoruns].
    It definitely sounds viral. I suggest deleting the update.exe file, although Windows might prevent you from doing that until you kill all related processes. And if you have a persistent infection, the file may be restored or re-downloaded.
    It might be easiest to seek assistance from a forum more dedicated to malware cleanups such as the following:
