No more ordering DVDs in Netflix?

Did Netflix change the iPad app to show instant playing videos only? I can no longer order DVDs with the iPad app. I can only order DVDs with the Safari version. Has the interface changed? The app doesn't look like the Safari version like it used too. Also, I can't view my account with the iPad version. I have to use Safari now to view my account.

My Netflix app icon is doing the same as everyone here is describing. But... I also have a saved screen from Safari to my DVD queue (I had "added to Home Screen" before I downloaded the app). This Safari saved page is still going to the standard page (like the app used to). So..you might try that & see if it helps.

  • I have a macbook pro OSX 10.5.8. My DVD player software 5.0.3 plays all DVDs without a problem. When I load a DVD from Netflix it shows that "the supported disc not available" on the blank, black screen?

I contacted Netflix. They are unfamiliar with this problem. Anyone have any experience with this problem

I have the same problem. I put a Dexter dvd from Netflix in my Macbook pro 0sx leopard. Nothing happened. Dvd player did not recognize the disk. To check whether the Dexter dvd was damaged, I put the dvd in my PC and it worked without any problems. I then put another dvd disk (Kubrick's Shining) in my Macbook and it worked fine, so there must be something in the Dexter dvd that messes up the Macbook. I've seen other posts specifically citing that the Dexter dvds do not work on the Macbook. This looks to me like a Showtime problem.

If you've bought a film from iTunes then you can only copy it to a DVD or CD for backup purposes, you won't be able to watch it on a stand-alone DVD player.

  • No more cd dvd fl folders under /media

I no longer have the cd dvd and fl folders under my /media.
I do not know which update borked it but at first I thought it would only show up once a cd or dvd was put in the drive. But no, even after putting a CD in or a floppy in, I still don't get the folders. Now I have no way of accessing the media.
Can someone confirm if they still have those folders under /media? If not, then I probably need to create some udev rules, but if you do have the folders, then maybe its something else that is wrong with my system.

    Same here...
But when I mount CD or whatever I get the folder with it's name and not CD or DVD or whatever...
I don't know about you, but I'm using KDE and had problems with HAL and mounting because of these missing folders.

  • Making more complex dvds in iDVD

I have a lot of short animations that I want to use to create a dvd for the students who made them.
They are on different topics (some are stop motion projects, some are Flash animations, some are Monty Python-style animations, etc.) so I want to create a dvd where the main menu screen has 4 or five main headers (chapters? directories?) and each one of those can then be clicked on to reveal another page with a menu list of individual animation projects, and then each animation could be clicked on and played as desired.
Is this possible to do with iDVD? If so, can anyone please advise me on how to do it or where to search for instructions on making a dvd with such a structure?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

Something is very wrong with your iDVD! Your experience is certainly not the norm!
I cannot speak to how iDVD works with Snow Leopard, but since iDVD has not been updated since the 08 version, I doubt that Apple focused on making sure it would be ok in SL.
The difficulties you describe with adding audio clips and changing fonts should not be happening if iDVD is working properly. If you are using audio that is not AIFF, you might try changing to that, but you still have the problem with the fonts.
The themes are set and you cannot change the way they work. Themes that have submenus within them are designed to give consistency to your DVD's look. You cannot have a main theme and then select submenu themes that are different.
If you use themes from earlier versions of iDVD-- that have just the one main screen design, you may be able to select another different theme that does have submenu options for your submenus.
If you are going to go ahead and try again to get iDVD to work for you in 10.5.8, you might consider creating a new iDVD project. I recommend that you delete iDVD's preference file before opening iDVD: Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag the plist file to the trash. iDVD will open a new one when you reopen it.
I would also do Repair Permissions on your computer's drive, using Disk Utility.
If you are satisfied with the iDVD project itself, either your original one or a new one, I recommend that you create a disk image file of it before burning to DVD disk. Creating one looks like the burn process and the encoding takes just as long, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk.
You now have a self-contained file of your iDVD project. You can safely move, change, rename, or delete any/all of the media used in the projects without losing the ability to burn DVDs of this iDVD project in the future. A disk image file can be moved to an external drive or another computer. It is a backup for DVDs, and it saves drive space (if you delete the original media).
Once the disk image file is successfully created, you can use it to test out how your project will play. By clicking on the file to mount it, and then opening the application DVD Player, you can see if it plays correctly. This is not the same as iDVD's Preview function, which will not always show you if there are problems.
If the disk image file plays fine, then use it to burn your DVD disks via Disk Utility.
These disks should play on most set-top players, as well as on most computers.
The brands of DVD disks usually recommended here are DVD-R Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. I think Sonys are ok, too. I have used them without problems. Burning at 4x or less is the recommended slow speed, but burning at 1x or 2x might be better for you.
Yes, DVDSP has a steep learning curve, but in the end, it might give you the options you want to do, if you are willing to spend the time and effort to learn how to do all of it.

  • [SOLVED] No more CD/DVD in wine applications

I read quite a few threads about udev problems with /dev/sr0. I think my problem has a link with this, but I am not sure. Since a week, I cannot use my cdrom drive with wine applications.
    My /dev/sr0 is :
    brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 0 1 nov. 12:09 /dev/sr0
I added myself to disk group, just to see if it solved the problem, but nothing changed.
A lot of non-wine applications work well (smplayer, vlc, for example), but another one ask me my root password (K9copy says that it is necessary to change the read ahead properties of the drive). (EDIT this last remark has no link with the problem; it is a special feature in K9copy and it is the normal way.. I usually don't use this program; sorry...)
Here is my udevadm info -a -n /dev/sr0

found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.

Have I got a specific problem or is it only the consequency of this bug?
    Last edited by jdn06 (2011-11-04 18:47:06)

Some new facts about my problem.
I tried this, as wine application was asking for a /dev/sg0 file which doesn't exist anymore:
    ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/sg0
    chown root:disk /dev/sg0
Quite ugly, but if it works...
But it didn't. The new error message is:
err:aspi:SCSI_OpenDevice Failed to open device /dev/sg0: Système de fichiers accessible en lecture seulement
The french part means that the filesystem is accessible only in reading. The wine application is EAC (CD extractor to FLAC files); it does'nt write on disk, but I guess it needs to have more rights on /dev/sr0. I don't want to make more crazy things like changing rights on /dev/sr0 or starting a wine application on root.
    Would anyone have an idea?

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
What happens when you try to redownload it ? What you can redownload will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes - does that album show there ? • Erased hard dirve.  How to determine correct OS X to reinstall, and if I need to order DVDs or if I can reinstall online

The hard drive was erased.  Disk utility suggests that Snow Lep. can be reinstalled however I beleve the OS X was an earlier version.  1) how to determine correct OS X to re install.   2) do I need to resinstall of disks over can it be done over the internet?  Thanks in advance

You need to start with the version that was originally installed.
If you are in the US call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.

  • How to convert More than one order into Commercial Invoice?

    Dear All,
I am facing one problem in Export senario, i have to create Commercial Invoice with reference to One or more than one order but PO no. in order are different. Is it possible?
Also i have to create one delivery & one Tax invoice in reference to one or more order or Delivery, How?
Plz give me solution to solve the problem.
          Award pts for useful answers.
    Thx & Regards,
    Pankaj

    Hi,
This can be definitely done. There can be multiple sales orders of a single customer and the shipping address is also the same, so it will be logical to create a single delivery and thus a single invoice for the same.
For clubbing multiple sales orders into one delivery go through the following process:
Using transaction code <b>VL10A</b> we can club multiple sales orders into a single delivery provided the following details are the same in case of all sales orders:
    1. Sales document type.
    2. Delivery document type.
    3. Division.
    4. Sold to party.
    5. Ship to party.
    6. Goods issue Date.
    <b>Process:</b>
    1. go to <b>VL10A</b> - enter the <b>shipping point</b>, <b>delivery creation date</b> (automatically proposed) & <b>"CalcRuleDefltDlvCrDt"</b> - this is the rule for determining default value for delivery creation date. The following are implemented:
    1. All documents due for delivery today
    2. All documents due for delivery today and tomorrow
    3. All documents due for delivery up until the end of next week (includingthose that were due before today)
    4. All documents due for delivery up until and including tomorrow(including those that were due before today)
Below you have tabs for <b>"general data"</b>, <b>"sales orders"</b>, <b>"material"</b>, <b>"partners"</b>, <b>"user role"</b>. You can select accordingly. It is not necessary to select from these. Now click on <b>"execute"</b> or press <b>"F8"</b>.
    2. Here in this screen you will see the <b>sales order nos</b>., the <b>ship to party</b> , the <b>delivery priority</b>. Select the required sales orders by simultaneously pressing the <b>"shift key"</b> and now clcik on <b>"background"</b>. The system will now create a single delivery in the <b>background</b>.
    3. Go back to the original screen and click on <b>"collective processing logs"</b>. Just click on "<b>execute"</b> or press <b>"F8"</b>. You will face a screen for <b>"log of collective run"</b> Here you can see how many documents were created for those sales orders and if there had been any errors those also can be seen.
<b>If you see error</b> then select that line and in the menu bar click on <b>"go to"</b> and in this click on <b>"notes"</b>. or you can directly click <b>"Shift + F8"</b>. You can see what exactly was the error.
click on the line and click on <b>"documents"</b> Here you will see the delivery document number - <b>"copy this number/make a note of it"</b>. You will know the time when you clicked on <b>"background"</b>. Just go through it to ge the correct delivery document number.
    4. Go to <b>"VL02N"</b> - paste/enter the delivery document number and press enter. Now you can do the picking as per your requirement and do the PGI.
This is the way how the process works for <b>VL10A</b> and completing the delivery with PGI.
Now like this say you have<b> "5"</b> deliveries created by clubbing multiple sales orders for a single customer. Now you want to club all <b>"5"</b> deliveries to create a single invoice. The settings will have to be done in the copy controls from <b>"delivery document"</b> to "<b>billing document"</b>. Go to transaction code <b>"VTFL"</b> - select the export billling document type and the export delivery document type select the line and double click on the same - here you have 4 fields:
Copying requirements - maintain <b>"003"</b> here
    Determ. export data - <b>"A"</b>
    Assignment number - <b>"E"</b>
    Reference number - <b>leave blank</b>
    Copy item number - <b>"tick on it"</b>
    <b>At the item level:</b>
Select the item category and in
    Copying requirements - <b>"004"</b>
    Data VBRK/VBRP - <b>"001"</b>
    Save the settings.
<b>Now when you you clucb multiple deliveries into one invoice the following must be same:</b>
    1. Sold to party should be same
    2. Ship to party should be same
    3. Delivery document types should be same
    4. Billing document type should be same
    5. Incoterms should be same
    6. Payment terms should be same
    7. Shipping type should be same
    <b>Clubbing multiple deliveries into 1 invoice:</b>
Go to <b>VF01</b> - select the delivery document numbers - press enter - click on <b>"execute"</b> or press <b>"F8"</b>. Here if there is no split criterias then the system will show you all the line items - <b>save</b> the invoice. If the system finds any data <b>mismatch</b> then it will show a button for the <b>"split analysis"</b> - when you click on it the system will show you why the split has occured.
    Reward points if solution helps.

  • Netflix wants me to turn off mirroring on my ipad in order to watch movies thru my ipad onto my television set

How do I disable mirroring on my ipad in order to watch netflix movies using the ipad linked to my flat screen?

Hi - first try reloading the amazon video app.  If that doesn't work...
my problem was solved this way - I contacted Apple support and went through as an i07 upgrade issue. They took me through this process but you may be comfortable doing it yourself: NB: I am only suggesting a solution is possible for some and my advice is unqualified!!!
First, before anything, back up your iPad to a computer via iTunes, using your USB cable
Make sure you have updated to the latest iTunes version (I think it was 11.1.1 that I did today)
Then in iTunes on your computer, you click on the apple at the top and then click 'restore iPad' button and follow the instructions which are fairly obvious but if you are unsure, make the request to Apple support to help you.
NB ensure you request restore Back up version not factory settings although I did notice that during the process it said it was restoring Factory Settings but it then continued on to restore from back up.
Also, try re-loading the amazon video (or Netflix app as I was advised that there was a bug fix done)
    Good Luck

  • Pics on CD or DVD???

Just fgot back from Sicily and Greece. I have about 500 pics, and am going through one by one with iPhoto, resizing, cropping, filtering, etc. When done, I would like to put on a disc and be able to lend them to different friends with different computers.
    Two questions:
1.) What exact discs should I buy?
2.) Will these be useable on any computer, if not, wehat are the limits/options?
3.) If playing on CD or DVD, how will it work - how will I switch pics? Are the slideshow options and if so, can I stop or reverse the order?
OK - that was 3 questions - one of them was a bonus!!! I'm new to this part of mac-dom, and appreciate any help you can supply. These forums have been most helpful to me in the past. Thanks for any info you can supply - Dennis

    1.) Verbatim DVD-R, not DVD+R, not DVD-RW, not DVD+RW.
2.) A Video-DVD should play on Macs, DVD players, and Windoze computers if they have the right software.
3.) Plenty of options in iDVD for slideshow presentations.
I build my slideshows only in iDVD. No iPhoto or iMovie. This is one of my more complex DVDs:
    Ireland 2004 iDVD Project
Nearly 800 images dragged into iDVD as organized folders from the hard drive. Transitions on each image, and menus, sub-menus, and sub-sub menus. The sub-menus are created by clicking on the Folder icon on the iDVD interface.
Main Menu has 6 buttons: Downpatrick, Antrim Coast, Letterkenny, Sligo, Trim, and Extras. Behind each button are additional buttons ranging from 3 to 6 buttons. The Extras button goes fairly deep. When you click on Extras, it gives you 3 choices on a new menu. The "B&Bs" button opens a new menu with 5 buttons. The "Movies" button opens a new menu with 4 buttons. If you click on the "Irish Music" button, you open a new menu with 2 buttons. At that point, you are at a "sub-sub-sub menu."
Music was on 95 of the slideshows. Some movies converted to QT DV from Canon S400 digicam .AVI files (iDVD 4). Now convert to H.264 with QuickTime 7. Images are original 4MP (2MB) JPEG images from the same digicam. This DVD project is around 4GB with all pictures as DVD-ROM content.
    Best Quality setting.
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • My DVD story...

Got my G5 back in February... everything is factory + 1 gig ram. From the start I was able to burn CDs just fine. With DVDs, I was successful maybe every third attempt. Everything seems fine until verification, and I get an error message (0x80020063) telling me that verification could not be completed, that my media was unreliable and that I should try again. I've tried both 8x and 4x burn options with no difference in results. Usually, on the third attempt, verification was still not successful, but somehow my computer will still read the disk if I re-insert it after it has spit it out. I even removed and inserted the disk several times, and still get a read. This is a backup, however, so I'm totally afraid to rely on this disk for future reference.
So, is it a media problem (Imation DVD+R 16x) or a drive problem? Should I buy another brand of disks? I sure hate wasting the time and media to get one maybe successful burn out of 3 attempts.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Susan

    Hi Susan,
I can relate. The really scary part is finding out you have corrupt discs dating 12-months back and you never even knew they were corrupt. IMHO, based on my experience, DVD back-ups are only good as a short term solution. Everyone has different back up needs (we are photographers) but for me I settled on the following:
    Import Images
    Copy to 2nd Drive
    Sort/Rename
    Copy to RAID5
Burn DVDs BTW: I have taken to using the Disk Utility to create a disc image, copy the files to that and burn that. Level 2 tells me that is a completely different burning engine but so far (knock on wood) a 100% success rate. The catch: it is a Mac volume, a PC won't read it.
Check everything and delete the "copy to 2nd Drive" files. Two copies now remain: one on a FW external drive and one on a SATA RAID 5, two different towers.
All work is done with the files on the RAID 5. Once all work is done, no more orders, the folder is then backed up to a removable hard drive. Hard drives are cheaper, faster, & more reliable than DVDs. At first, the enclosure might set you back (I use a Weibe tech) but internal drives are cheaper per GB so you will make that up! Did I mention it was faster too!
Finally, delete the original import, drag the RAID 5 files to a "Delete" folder that I purge when I need the space.
Whew. Moral of the story... I don't trust DVDs... I have had too many show up with no info.
    Mike

  • DVD Decryptor Gone

I use Videora and love it! But now I want to transfer my music video DVDs to my Ipod. Some work, most do not. I understand that DVD Decryptor was the way to go in order to get Videora to work with the more uncooperative DVDs. But it's no longer avaliable on the site as of January 1st.
Can anyone suggest what other programs are currently avaliable to solve my issue?

DVD Decrypter was developed to make a backup of your DVDs, it's as simple as that. Unfortunately, the developer was ordered to stop development via a court ruling/order or else face imprisonment. Simple as that.
I use it to backup DVDs because once you've ruined a DVD disc (however that happens) then you can't exactly go to the shop and ask for a replacement. A funny look is all you will get.
The software does put anthing nasty on your PC or constantly hit you with ads. All it does, it make a backup of your DVD... nothing more.

  • Netflix on 1st Gen ATV in UK?

    Hi,
I signed up with Netflix UK yesterday for their free trial and while I can view the content on my iPad and Macs I can't seem to get Netflix to appear on my 1st Gen. Apple TV.
Is Netflix only available on the 2nd Gen. Apple TV?
I have read the other threads on getting Netflix to work and I have followed the instructions that seem to work for other people but alas I cannot get my ATV1 to play ball. I have:
unplugged it for at least thirty seconds (several times).
unplugged my router and Time Capsule (several times).
performed a factory reset on the ATV and then updated to latest software version.
signed up for Netflix using the same email address as my Apple ID (not through Facebook).
checked for software updates on my ATV and Macs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Paul.

I think it needs to be viewed in perspective - there are dozens of films there which are more than a couple of years old, but which individually would still cost more than a monthly Netflix subscription to buy from iTunes Store.
I wish Apple and the content providers realised we should pay less for older content
The majority of older iTunes movies are £6.99 or so for a so-so SD copy, and at least £2.49 to rent.  On the whole I refuse to buy these when the DVDs are maybe £3-4 for better quality physical copy.  As you know I'd love to be shot of the discs but very few older titles are available to buy in HD in itunes, and only for rental on AppleTV or iPad etc.
I think it will turn out to be good or bad value depending on which 'target demographic' you're in.
If you are a youngster and perhaps only interested in the latest films/TV then you'll need to rent/buy from Apple or similar, or have a Sky/Virgin package or a unit with all the on demand catchup services.
An example - my daughter has wanted me to get her some 'Dora the Explorer' cartoons for ages but it looks very annoying to me so I've resisted - couple that with the cost from iTunes:
    iTunes  - Season 5 Vol 1: 5 episodes for £6.99
Season 3: 24 episodes ONLY available individually at £ 1.89
              etc etc
....you get the idea....well as part of the monthly Netflix package there's at least 70 episodes of this tripe and she's thoroughly enjoying it as we speak.  Maybe they don't have the latest and fanciset cartoons etc, i wouldn't know, but there is a fair selection.
I watched an old 'HD' Western the other night I'd never seen - £2.49 SD rental from itunes, £ 6.99 to buy (unusually £10.99 at Amazon).
Started watching a Tv Series (Borgia) last night thinking it was the one with Jeremy Irons - it wasn't but looked promising (apart from the completely miscast patriarch with a distinctly American accent - good actor just out of place), and may keep us entertained for a few nights.  Worth a few quid.
So in only 3 days I've had more than mhy money's worth compared to renting or buying equivalent stuff from itunes.
Streaming media has to be the way forward - even though I've always liked to 'own' the physical copy, the ensuing clutter, risk of theft of a large collectio etc is just not worth it.
Now if only Apple could put together a decent view/listen to as much as you can eat monthly package with their content I'd probably be sold on it even at £30-£40/month.

  • Salient diffs, DVD Movie vs. iTunes Movie

I've got a 40" HDTV with a couple of HDMI inputs and a 5.1 surround sound system with an optical input. Great for watching DVD movies. But I'm more than a little confused by the tech specs for iTunes movies and AppleTV. Can someone who knows tell me in plain language how the viewer experience will differ between say, watching a DVD from Netflix and buying a movie from iTunes and streaming it to my HDTV/5.1 sound system? I imagine I'm not the only one who will be interested in an informed answer. Thanks.

OK, so I think we're both saying the same thing here, that the image height of the movie is less than 480 pixels, and thus less than DVD quality. And in the case of 2.35:1 movies, significantly less. I suppose that when you add compression artifacts on top of that, you're really taking about substantial degradation.
At the risk of splitting semantic hairs, I'm not sure I'd agree with substantial degradation.
Provided the compression tools are up to snuff, live-action 1.78:1 material works quite well in h.264 for iPod form when compared to MPEG-2 for DVD. Animation (be it CGI or 2D) is much tougher because compression algorithms have the most trouble with high-contrast edges (and that's all animation is, high-contrast edges). MPEG-2 for DVD has it easier with animation because DVDs can be interlaced, h.264, on the other hand, is progressive-only (and deinterlacing animation drops quality substantially)
Anyway, I believe Apple is being truthful when they advertise it as 'near-DVD quality.' (however dubious a notion that might be
