No more "songs cut short"...

Thanks Apple! I hooked up my iPod to "restore" it this morning. I was still trying to resolve the songs being cut off before the end. When I clicked on "Restore", another window popped up that said something about "bug fixes". Clicked on that, it did it's thing. I reloaded a few albums that had the cut off problem, and surprise!... no more problem. A very quiet fix from Apple evidently... nothing posted regarding it on Apple's web site, or on any of the Mac web sites. So, thanks again, Apple!

I'm pretty sure it's not the iPod's software, and I'm really sure iTunes is culpable. It injects missing data into the data stream as it transfers songs to the iPod. Besides quitting processes outside of iTunes during transfers, it seems best to sync just a few songs at a time. Whenever I identify about 20 songs that end early and remove them from the iPod and put them back on, afterward they all play fine.
I hope to refrain from restoring or letting iTunes transfer my music all at once at nearly every cost until Apple releases a fixed version.

  • Songs cutting short, play for 1st few seconds and s

    Hi,
I noticed some of my songs that I've transferred into my muvo v00 are cutting short and would only play for the first 0 or so seconds. I've got the latest firmware and I know that there isn't anything wrong with these songs when I play it on my own computer.
Are others having the same problem?

It seems if I retransfer the problematic songs one by one, instead of bulk large number of songs at once, then the song is able to play fine on my player. It seems it doesn't matter what type of song, whether from cd or downloaded subscription service, it's just random songs that play for only the first few seconds.
Does this mean the player is having trouble to correctly receive songs from the computer if there is a large amount at once? This would be very annoying.

  • Songs cut short by skip to next track

I recently built a new system and upgraded from XP to Vista. However based on other posts I do not believe that either OS or hardware are a factor.
After migrating my music and library to the new system everything appeared to have worked perfectly. However I noticed that certain songs are being cut off short of their total play time. The time appears to be random from song to song but never changes for any particular song. If you move past the trigger point the song will play till the end. If you play the song in Quicktime it works fine.
I have checked the time in the Library.xml file, removed and replaced iTunes and installed earlier versions. Nothing works. This error does not appear to be common but does seem to affect a wide range of OS and hardware (yes even on Apple computers). Just search these forums for "skip next track".
None of the posts I have read provide any kind of solution. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have a similar problem. I had accidently deleted my entire iTunes library when I reformatted my hard drive. I had a backup on an external hard drive. When I reimported the library to the reformatted hard drive I noticed the same problem that you have.
You might try what I tried. I opened the songs that skip in a sound editing program, one in which you can see the sound wave track. When I do this I can see that these songs now have gaps in them.....pretty much evenly spaced throughout the song. These gaps are about 3 seconds long, and are spaced around 30 seconds apart. One of my songs has gaps every 33 seconds. Others vary, some 23 seconds apart, other 31 seconds, others 35 seconds....but all of the gaps are about 3 seconds long.
When playing any of these "swiss cheese" songs that are filled with gaps, either in iTunes or on my iPod, as soon it gets to the first gap, it skips to the next song.

  • Song cut short

I have just downloaded "echo street" by the band Amplifier. However, tracks 2 and 3 seem to be cut off and showing a much too short run time. Is there a standard way to rectify such problems?
Sorry for my noobism if it is an easy fix!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Song songs have not downloaded completely and are cut short when playing. How can i download these again?, song songs have not downloaded completely and are cut short when playing. How can i download these again?

I have noticed some of the songs i have downloaded have not fully downloaded and cut short before they reach the end of the track.  Has anyone else had this problem or know how to download songs again without paying to do so again.

make shor that you have the latest version of itunes then you can go to the itunes store and on the right side by the quick links box there is "Purchased" click on that and then chage it to all in the top right corner and then find the song or songs and click the little cloud button to download them.
PS: You do not have to pay for that

  • IPod Acting Strange When Connected To Windows / Songs Also Cut Short

    Hi,
I am using the latest iTunes version with Vista and have an 80Gb iPod Video.
In the last few weeks, I rebuilt my PC from scratch.
I currently have some problems with my iPod and would be most grateful if someone could please assist me. Here’s the details….
Whenever I connect my iPod to my PC, I get a Windows message popping up asking if I want to “Scan and Fix”. Any ideas why this is happening and how this should be resolved? I also find that when ejecting the iPod in iTunes, I still can’t remove it until I go into Explorer and select Safely Remove. Could this be a driver problem – how can I be sure to be using the correct driver for my iPod?
Also, when the iPod is playing (not connected to computer), some songs are cut short. There doesn’t appear to be any pattern to which ones cut. They play ok in iTunes.
Finally, is there something (apart from un-ticking the Enable Disk Use check box in iTunes) that you need to do to get an iPod out of disk mode. Mine was in disk mode a few weeks ago, but since then I have done a restore and the check box is no longer ticked – does a restore / reset take the iPod out of disk mode? – (I originally put it in disk mode to try and do a defrag). Since the iPod still appears in Windows Explorer, I was wondering if it is in fact still in disk mode (even although according to iTunes, it isn’t).
I have tried all the reset stuff, but still no joy!
Many thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    Neil

Have relogged this - things changed a little last night!

my songs are cutting short, any idea why?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken tracks from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to close and restart iTunes.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Create AAC version problems - songs cut off

I am running the most recent version of iTunes on my laptop (11.3.1?...my laptop is at home, and I'm not) on Windows 8, but I think I've been having this problem since I was on Windows 7, and on previous versions of iTunes as well.
I'm importing a bunch of MP3 files into my library. There doesn't seem to be anything special with them...usually CBR @ 320kbps (they are music I've downloaded directly from artists' websites).
However, I'm a little OCD, so I'd like all of my music in iTunes to be AAC. So I try converting these MP3s to AAC using the built-in function. I use the iTunes plus encoder, but the problem seems to happen with the lower quality settings as well. The conversion seems to work properly, however every AAC version of the song that gets created is exactly 3 minutes 37 seconds long. If the original song is longer than that, it gets cut off at that point. I don't recall offhand what happens if the original song is shorter than 3:37...I don't know if I had any that were shorter than that to begin with to test.
Obviously there isn't a "Make every song 3:37" setting, so I doubt it's a setting that is mis-set. I'm guessing there's something else on my laptop that is interfering with iTunes working properly, but for the life of me I couldn't tell what. When I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8, it was a clean install, so there shouldn't be anything lingering from that. Also, I created a new library when I did that upgrade, so I doubt there was anything that came over with that. So it's possible it's something that I may have installed after I set the laptop up, but I'd have no way of telling other than wiping, reinstalling, and testing after every app has been installed.

    Neil,
It is an iTunes bug.  There have been various versions of that bug reported here.  It occurs more often with VBR, but you are seeing it with CBR.
However, I STRONGLY suggest that you leave your MP3/320s alone.  OCD or no, there is absolutely no advantage to the conversion.  Virtually anything that can handle AAC can play MP3 (and the reverse is not at all true).  Worse, the conversion itself has the potential to introduce audio degradation, which is probably not what you want.
Or, if you really must do the conversion, use a competent 3rd party conversion program such as Switch.

  • 30seconds to 2mins of song cut off on ipod

I have a really really werid error, when I first got a 5G ipod, about 1/12 of the songs were 30seconds-2min shorter on the ipod and had there ends cut off, when I played them with itunes off the ipod however, they played fine (full song). I dismmised this as a defective ipod, returned it, got a new one, used it with no problem for 2 days, and then found a song with 32seconds of the end cut off. I synced it with itunes, and it didn't fix the problem, it only fixed the song after I listen to it all the way through on itunes, and synced it again. Based on my previous experiance I think there are more songs on my ipod cut off like this. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or how to test to see if more songs are cut off without listen to all 2400 songs on it

I have the same problem. I have a 15 gig 2G ipod and I replaced a dying 20gig 3G ipod with a new 60gig 5G ipod. Other than the harddrive dying in the 3G (I did get over 7000 hrs out of it!) I have never had any of the 6200 songs I have loaded ever have an error or skip like this. I've reripped 2 songs and they now have no error, but it seems like a cascading error (replacing the 2 songs seemed to cause 3 more to fail that didn't 2 days earlier) I have two questions: 1) Is this just a glitch in the error trapping of the driver software (meaning I can hope for a reprieve! with the next release) or 2) After restoring and reloading everything on the 5G and testing the tracks that skip on the 2G can I assume I've gotten a bum drive 3 days into owning my new pod?

  • Why are some songs cut off early?

I just transferred my iTunes library from my old macbook (where it was working fine) to my new macbook pro. I notice many songs cut off before finishing, usually all the songs from a same album. I downloaded my past purchases from icloud and still happens. My ipod, which I now synced with my new macbook is (obviously) doing the same. Anyone have any bright ideas to resolve this? I guess Apple is too busy counting all the money from us suckers who have bought their hardware and/or paid for music downloads from iTunes to take care of this.

I am having the same problem.  I moved my files from an old Windows XP machine to a new Windows 7 machine.  I put them in the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder thinking they would all be added to my library and work just fine.  Now I noticed that all songs for the same Artist get cut off at the same point in time.  For one artist, it was 2:25.  Any song shorter than that worked fine.  Any song longer got cut off.  For another artist, it was 2:17.  It seems to be more with songs I downloaded from iTunes.  Songs that came from CDs that I own and imported seem to be fine but I haven't checked every song.  Any help Apple?

  • While creating a project in Garage Band my sample tracks were cut short then overwritten in soundtrack pro. Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?

While creating a project in Garage Band 09 my sample tracks were being cut short- I then discovered they had been overwritten in soundtrack pro.
Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?
I never opened soundtrack pro to edit the track just Garage band....the track just mysteriously saved as half the track.
I am running Lion and I upgraded my Garage band to '11 hoping it would resolve the issue...it didn't. Now I can't find that tracks at all.
The 2 songs having the issue are titled Exotic Yearning and Reunion.
I am in the process of reinstalling the audio content from my discs. I just don't want to run into this again.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

After spending some time reinstalling the soundtrack pro 3 content I opened the full track called Reunion.
It showed back up in Garage Band.*It was the full track and wasn't chopped off until I dragged it onto the project. Then it showed up chopped.
Then I closed Garaged band and opened soundtrack pro 3....The song was again chopped off at the 1:33min mark
    Very Frusterated...:(

  • Songs Cut Off Before Finished

Can anyone tell me why on my Mini songs occasionally stop abruptly before they finish and the next song begins?
The latest song to do this, which came off my CD, plays to completion on iTunes.
    Thanks.

Hi all, I think I've figured out one solution to this problem. I have a 3rd Gen iPod and was having songs cut off. Random songs at random points near the end of the song. I've read a post here about deleting the artwork from the songs on the iPod, and it worked! Long story short: Use this script from www.dougscripts.com "removeallipodartwork" to delete all artwork from the iPod, not iTunes. iTunes is fine, only the iPod is having trouble with the little bits of artwork information. If you have any doubts, manually delete artwork from just a couple of songs, update your iPod and listen for the cut off (you can fast forward to near the end of the song). Believe me, I've tried everything else for the past 18 months or so. MP3, AAC, different quality, different iTunes versions, different iPod OS, restoring the iPod, I could go on. Hope this helps.

  • Tracks ripped in iTunes with default settings cut short on iPods

I have a WIndows PC running XP (which I keep up to date).
I rip CDs I have bought using iTunes with default settings (so creating AAC files). My iPod library is held on a networked storage device.
All tracks play fine in iTunes.
Quite frequently, when I sync the ripped CD to an iPod, one or more tracks will cut short when played on the iPod, usually near the beginning (they generally play for less than 30 seconds).
The tracks always cut off at the same point.
The problem occurs consistently across 3 separate iPods (i.s. same tracks, same point).
I have tried resetting iPods, removing artwork as suggested by some threads etc.
The only way I have found to resolve the problem is to re-rip the CD (or at least the faulty tracks). Usually this fixes it, although sometimes I have had to re-rip more than once.
I have not found similar problem reports (those I have found tend to be people ripping to MP3 format), which seems strange if this is an iTunes bug.
It has occurred to me this might be an issue with the data being written to the storage device which is connected via ether to router.
    Any thoughts?

You're welcome. Glad it worked out.
Amazing day yesterday. The Earth shake was very powerful, lasting for over a minute. Fortunately and amazingly, we had very minor damage.
Please mark this post "solved". Helpful for others looking for a solved solution to a similar question, also helpful for me. Aloha from Big Island.
