No more white/blue stars on topsites?

seems like in 5.1 safari has drop the white star in topsites to let you know if a page has been updated. please confirm this is true. I tried reset topsites left and right, reset the safari and none of that gave my any white stars on the page of topsites whatsoever. I have my old imac sitting right next to my new one. One is running lion, the other snow leopard. The safari on Lion is 5.1 and 5.05 on snow leopard.
I wonder this has something to do with Lion? or just the 5.1 safari? or it's just me?

Empty the Safari cache more often. That may help TopSites update the pages for you more frequently.
It should work fine under Lion / Safari 5.1.
If emptying the cache doesn't help, quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Safari
Move the TopSites.plist file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For LIon: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

Accidently right clicked the blue star and now it is gone. How do I get it back?

I was looking for a way to put the bookmark in the correct category. Right clicked and then I think I clicked an option labelled "menu" but I am not sure because at that point the dialog closed and the blue star is no more.
I can find no instructions for using the new customization options mentioned in stories about 29.

Just go to Menu bar (Press F10 or Alt to unhide) now go to '''View''' >> '''Toolbars''' >> '''Customize''' >> look at right, look for bookmarks icon, drag it and drop in the toolbar.
I think you click in the option to move to menu.

What has happened to the blue star in Top Sites?

I recently updated from Safari 6.05 to 6.1 on my Macbook Air running OS 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion). I can live with the drab new look of Top Sites — not that I seem to have much choice in the matter. A feature that appears to have vanished, and which I greatly miss is the blue star in the upper right corner on the web pages in Top Sites which indicated a change in the web page since my last visit. Top Sites no longer appears to scan the pages; what I see now is the appearance of the page the last time I visited. Is there any way I can reactivate this function?

It should update the page automatically.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist
Click Go then move the TopSites.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. See if pages update automatically in Top Sites.

Face Time: blue star vs. camera in contacts????

I have an iPad2 and a MacBook Pro. Both with the latests systems (iPad 6.1.3, MacBook Mountain Lion). When I Facetime my daughter's iPod, there's a blue camera with a star in it next to her name, Messagin and Facetime work with her iPod (different Apple ID and different email) but:
When I Facetime between my own two devices, I just get a blue star and neither device connects to the other, or the iPad calls the MacBook, but I can't answer the video call.
Each device has the same Apple ID, but different emails associated with them. (as I've already read to be sure to do)
Message WORKS; Facetime DOES NOT.

If the problem remains, you may have wi-fi network problems. Both of your should try again when you are on the same wi-fi connection. If it does not work at your location, try his home, or even a library or store that has an open wi-fi. If you can make it work at one location, look for Wi-Fi network issues at the location where you cannot connect.

I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

Ideacenter Q700 - TV tuner issues. pictures appearing more white.

I recently bought the Q700 Lenovo - I have a issue with the tv tuner. when I plugin cable connection to it.
  - (NO ISSUES) I get all the channels which I am supposed to get -
  - (ISSUES) the picture quality is more white. I just cannot see it.
   - I tried the TV option in the windows media center - changed the color balance, white balance, sharpness. still the picture quality coming from all the channels are having more white than color.

Safari Top Sites Blue Stars Missing

As of yesterday, Top Sites no longer shows the little blue stars when a page is updated. I can force them to appear if I quit Safari and restart it, but they won't update on their own as they used to periodically, even though the thumbnails still update. I tried using time machine to replace the app file and preferences from several days ago, but this hasn't solved the problem. Any ideas?

Need to join the desperate team. My Top sites wont allow any other manually added site - it will get deleted right after i restart safari.
I have checked the other forums where were suggestion for binning the com.apple.safari and top sites plist - doesn't work. Standard cleaning procedure like emptying cash, reseting safari or not too standard binning some preferences files - not working. None of them is in banned sites - i binned it also
I need to add its a new thing because it was working until last week. Maybe some updates could damage something, though i can remember any new updates in last two weeks. Please be geeks, find the answare, it was very cool feature and its pitty its not working.

G3 White&Blue with OS X only? How?

Sorry if this question's been answered before, but I couldn't find the answers.
I recently received a G3 white & blue for free. It didn't come with anything, no installation disks and only a CD rom. It does have the OS 9 installed.
I want to give it to my friend with the OS X instead since every new product such as digital cameras and mp3 players that she wants to buy require OS X or later…
The thing is that I don’t know where to start.
Can I install OS X erasing the OS 9 already installed?
Will I be able to install OS X without a DVD reader?
Where can I find an earlier OS X that will work well with the G3?

Before you erase OS 9 you should first to the firmware update that is recommended. The update can only be installed while booted into OS 8.5.1 to OS 9.x.x.
You can install any version of OS X up through Tiger, the current version. However, Tiger is sold only on DVDs. Apple has an exchange program for replacing the DVD version with CDs. However, that offer expires on Dec. 22. You will have to first purchase the DVD version then return it with the exchange form.
Earlier versions of OS X may be purchased at sources like eBay or Amazon.com. Be sure to purchase ONLY the standard retail package. Versions intended for specific Mac models will not work. These can usually be identified by their gray labels.
You can install OS X along with OS 9 or you can erase the hard drive and install OS X alone.

My Imac freeze on a white blue screen!!

Yesterday it was working fine until I changed it place and pluged the power into a different switch. Today when I power on it freeze on a white blue screen and I only able to move the mouse. What is the problem??

Try starting your iMac with the original DVD that came with the machine then launch disk utility to repair your hard drive.

I do not have remove bookmark option under the Blue Star on a Mac. I want to clean up my bookmarks

I want to delete some bookmarks. Yesterday I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. When I go to the bookmarked URL and click on the Blue star there is no option to delete bookmark. Only NAME, FOLDER and TAGS are there

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

NX Pro bad/dead pixels -white, blue many sizes

Hi
I just got a NXPro webcam.
Its has lot of dead pixels in white , some in blue.
The pixels are all sizes.
Is that normal ???
I had a old cheap cam which did not have any bad pixels .
Should i return this ?and ask new

Actually all sensors have defective pixels masking algorithm, the choice in which algorithm to use depends on the backend chipset support.
And its unit dependent. If this particular webcam has it, it might not necessarily meant that the other unit will have it. And position of the defective pixels will not be the same in all webcams even if its of the same model.
Webcam NX Pro is a pretty good webcam, in my personal opinion. Its more of the middle range. Quality is not that bad, at least to me.
If you do notice that there are some bad pixels, give it some time for the webcam to settle down. Prob min or so, before you start to use it. If you move the webcam, again, give it min or so, to settle down. That is the time for the software algo to work.

Empty / White Rating Stars won't go away

When I rate one or more songs on an album, iTunes automatically gives estimated ratings for the rest of the songs on the album as white or empty stars. Which I don't like.
Formerly, I was able to fix this by going to album view, right click on the album and set rating to zero. But with the last software update this fix doesn't work anymore.
Any suggestions?

Are you talking about "Rating" or "Album Rating"? There appears to be a difference. I didn't even really know what you were talking about and did a Google search. Then I made a smart playlist for myself of all of my songs with and album rating not zero. The vast majority of my library popped up.
My suggestion is that you don't assign an Album Rating to any song. The Album Rating appears to be consistent throughout all of the songs from an album (which would only make sense). I gave one song on Doc Powell's +Doc Powell+ an Album Rating of 5, then as I selected the rest of the songs on that album, they went from 4 empty stars to 5 stars. The "problem" is that the one unrated song from that album suddenly had 5 empty stars in the Rating column. Well, no, if I thought that song was worth 5 stars, I would have already given it such a rating! I presume rating the song would replace the five empty stars with the number of stars I want the song to have. I selected a song and returned the Album Rating to zero, so all of the songs went back to 4 empty stars, and my unrated song from +Doc Powell+ went back to 0.
Apparently, iTunes takes the average of the Rating of songs on an album to suggest an Album Rating with empty stars. That rating will be the same for all songs on the album. However, if you assign an album an Album Rating by giving one of the songs any number of stars in the Album Rating column, it will suggest that value with empty stars in the Rating column for any song you haven't given a solid rating within that album. That actually makes sense to me.
Solution: don't give any song an Album Rating. I don't even have that column showing in my playlist views. Make a smart playlist where the criterion is Album Rating is not 0; then select one song from each of the albums and change the Album Rating to 0. You can live with the empty stars in that column.

Blue star no longer showing in Top Sites

My top sites page no longer shows the blue 'updated' starts in the corner. I have tried resetting just the topsites in 'reset safari...', but it just shuffled them all around and lost some favourites. It's becoming frustrating...
Can anyone give me some fix to this?

WebpageIcons.db
Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If you can edit TopSites now, move that .plist file to the Trash.
