No MP4 is file created using recording program IPV 5.2

I've got a stream playing from a DVD player and everything is working great. I've been trying to record the stream to an archive server so I can play it back later but it doesn't seem to be working.
I define a recording for the program, give it a start time and duration, tell it to record audio and video, give it a file name and select the archive server from the drop down. The recording starts but no media file ever shows up.
Is there something I'm missing or better yet some sort of step by step guide to help me through
this ?

export the file to .mov format and try if it works out.

Dmp file created using data pump

Hi All,
I have created dmp file using oracle datapump utility and identified that even after dropping dmp file physically from hard disk. I saw there is no storage release. Is there any specefic way to get spaces free from disk?

- there are physical files on the file system
- you delete these files
- file system does not show an increase in free space
Just how is this an Oracle issue, never mind a SQL and PL/SQL language issue?
Oracle physical (datapump) files are no different than Excel spreadsheet files, are no different than mp4 movie files, are no different from any other file...
If deleting a physical file from a file system does not release that allocated space and increase the file system's space, then you need to ask that question to file system. Not Oracle. Not SQL. Not PL/SQL.
What is the o/s and what is the file system? Then use that, and your issue, as criteria for a stfw exercise.
And yes, this is not an uncommon issue on Unix based file systems as an in-use file can be "deleted" - which means the file entry is removed from the file catalog, but the iondes, containing the file's contents, are only wiped (and space released) when the open file handles for that file are all closed.

File Comparison using Shell Programming

I want to compare two text files using shell programming. The two text files are actually Business Objects output extracted in a text format. The two output files are not in a tabular format and are no way similar in looking. I want to take one file e.g. file1 as an input file and compare each line of file1 with the other file e.g. file2. During comparison I want to extract the differences found in another file and if possible the similar data as well.
Below is how the files will look like

As you can see above the file are not at all matching except for one record UHL1, but its just an example. As an output I would like to have a third file containing all these records, highlighting the differences, and a fourth file where in only the matched records should get populated.
Please post any useful scripts related to the above scenario.

Permissions on files created using UTL_FILE package

The files created on unix using UTL_FILE package have permisisons rw- - - - - - -.(600). I want them to be created with permissions 640.(rw-r - - - - - ).i.e read access to the group also. The umask setting of the unix account of the oracle instance are 137. Is there any way to create the files with the required permissions.

So SQL*Plus is on your PC? I'm assuming you mean 'call' as in the windows cmd.exe command?
Sheesh this is like getting blood from a stone.
In that case you must be connecting via the listener and not internally.
In which case the umask comes from the umask that was set in the environment of the OS user who started the listener process.
Thats not necessarily the same as the owner of the oracle software (normally 'oracle').
If sysdamin joebloggs logs in and starts the listener manually in a shell, then the umask applied to all shadow processes started by the listener is whatever jobloggs umask was when he typed the command 'lsnrctl start'. The umask of the owner of the oracle software, or your umask, is utterly irrelevent.
So if you don't like the umask for files created by processes spawned by the listener, stop and restart the listener in a shell where you have explicitly set the umask to what you want it to be.
Really starting the listener should be scripted and the correct umask is put in the script just before the call to 'lsnrctl start'.

Problem in viewing a converted JavaHelp (jar) file (created using RH2002 to RoboHelp X5)

I have a javahelp project (compressed javahelp) created using
RoboHelp 2002. The output files are jar files.
The source files are .mpj. When I view the existing jar files
without converting the project to .xpj I am able to view the jar
files.
However, this project needs to be upgraded to RHx5. During
conversion(.mpj to .xpj) everything seems to be working fine and
the javahelp files are generated. But when I try to view the jar
files nothing is diplayed.
I get the following error. Please see below.
Has anybody come across anything similar? Is there anything I
need to take care of before I upgrade to .xpj? I cannot locate the
glo.xml file in RH.

Yes, I have gone through the Peter Grainge's article. It is
indeed very informative and I have installed the JDK and the JH
according to the instructions given therein. My installation seems
complete as the viewer works fine. The JDK version is 1.4.2_18 and
the JH version is 2.0. The environment variables have also been set
accordingly.
All this while I was thinking it is a Java issue so I have
tried out with different JDK versions.
But now I think it can be a tool issue because :
I can view the existing JavaHelp file with the current Java
viewer.(if I do not open the project in X5)
I can view Sun supplied sample jar files with the viewer.
I can create new JavaHelp files with RHX5 and the current JDK
and JH installation and view those files.
I cannot view the JavaHelp file if I convert the .mpj to .xpj
(the generate dialog works fine and says compilation is complete).
The Display button does not display the file. The view
command line command throws up the error mentioned in my earlier
mail.
Would appreciate any pointers.

No '.trc' file created using SQL_TRACE in 10g Express Edition

Hi All - am attempting to create a trace file on my PC using 10g Express Edition under the HR account.
After using alter session set SQL_TRACE = TRUE, I can check the database parameters:

However, if I attempt to run any database query, e.g.

, the query runs fine but no .trc file is created within C:\ORACLEXE\APP\ORACLE\ADMIN\XE\UDUMP, whether I then disable SQL_TRACE or not.
The only trace files created here appear to be when my PC starts up.
I've granted full control to that directory via Windows to all accounts so write permissions should not be an issue, and I can save files to this directory via windows.
Extremely frustrating - any ideas why?

Well, I don't appear to have a context menu, I just have 5 options after logging into Express Edition - Administration, Object Browser (a poor man's TOAD), SQL which leads to SQL Scripts, commands and query builder (I use commands), Utilities and Application Builder.
As an aside, I have created an explain plan table in the HR schema as well as running plustrce as SYS and granting the plustrace role to HR with the admin option (this was done in an attempt to use AUTOTRACE). Autotrace itself does not work - if I attempt to 'set autotrace on' within XE SQL Commands under the HR account I get ORA-00922: missing or invalid option.
Appreciate this is another issue other than the failure of TRC file creation but I suspect XE does not behave as a standard Oracle set up. Well, not for me at least anyway !!

Files created using File.createNewFile appear too late

Hi all!
I've got a problem with creating files - in my code I'm using this method:
File f = new File("path_to_the_file");
f.createNewFile();
And it's work correct, but after some days (application is running all the time)some delays occur.
For example file was created on time e. g. 9:00:00 am (according to entries in trace file), BUT 'ls' command shown this file 15-20 seconds later.
The delay is about 4 seconds a day, and it continuously increases (only restart of the application helps).
This is an issue for me, because other part of my application (written in ansi C) uses these files, and if it doesn't find them in some time frame, then operation failed.
I'm using HP Unix in my work - maybe it helps you.
Does anybody has an idea what's going on?
Is it an OS issue, or maybe something is wrong with my JVM (jre5.0 is used)?
I will be grateful for any suggestions from your side

I have seen problems where Java's "clock" esp System.currentTimeMillis() gains or loses times. This is the time used for logging as well. (So it will appear right in the logs even if it is not) So if you are seeing the file being created later and later I would assume your Java clock is losing 4 second per day.

PSD files created using export data set fail to import into lightroom

If I create a set of files using variables in a data set, the PSD files won't import into LightRoom. LR says to resave with maximum compatibility, but I already have that set in Photoshop. If I open one of the files and resave it, it will import. Perhaps PS isn't honoring the maximize compatibility setting when exporting.

I downloaded 10g database ver 10.2.0.1.0 from oracle site and installed it on my laptop. I took an export of schema which was on my 9i database ver 9.2.0.1.0 using 9i exp, created tablespace and user in the 10gdb and tried to import the same to 10gdb using 10g imp using the following.
imp system/pswd@10gdb fromuser=test touser=test file=expdat.dmp log=expdat.log
it displays
.importing SYSTEM'S objects into SYSTEM
.importing TEST'S objects into TEST
and it doesnt import any objects just hangs. The Log file does'nt have any entries.
Can anyone help me.

I can't open rtf files created using the 'touch' command in Terminal

I don't know much about CLI but I like to play with my tech. When I create an RTF file using
touch foo.rtf
it creates the file but when I try and open it, it just says "The document “foo.rtf” could not be opened."
What's the deal?

As you've likely discovered, touching a nonexistent file will create a zero-byte file with the name you specify. (touch is also used to update the modification time on an existing file. Seeman touch for further details.)
The problem you're running into is that though a completely empty file is valid HTML, text, or Markdown, it is not valid RTF—this is true of many file formats, actually, which are structured in a particular way and require some data to be present be valid.
Based on my experimentation, the bare minimum RTF file appears to be
{\rtf1}
If you'd like to create a blank RTF file from the shell, try this:
echo '{\rtf1}' >Foo.rtf
Note the above will overwrite Foo.rtf if it exists.

Unable to Open BEx file created using NWBC client

Hi,
I am working on EhP3 & NWBC Client.
I tried to export an ALV report to "BEx Analyzer" using the option "Export -> BEx Analyzer".
If I select the option "Open" in the subsequent pop-up, it just opens an Excel window and nothing appears after that. Not even a workbook gets created.
If I select to save and then open the saved ".bex" file, an excel window opens up. But immediately I get the "Microsoft Visual Basic Error" stating "Run-Time error: '91': Object variable or With block variable not set".
If I choose "debug" option, visual basic code window appears. I get to the following line there.

Finally got the solution.
I have put the following patches, it worked.
Bi front end patch bi710_2-10004472.exe and bi710sp02p_201-10004472.exe.
(I didnt try the latest patch - which is 10)
And also install Microsoft Office Patch KB907417.
The icon becomes clickable and you get proper menu options after that.

Converting files created using JVC GYHM 100U to file for iMovie/FC Express

I have a JVC GYHM 100U which creates files only for Final Cut Pro. Is there a way to convert the files to be used in FC Express or iMovie?

Correct. FCE converts HDV to AIC on ingestion. It does not works with HDV natively. FCP does.

...and that that codex was the default FCP codec. Then what is the FCP (or FCS now) default codex or at least the codec that this camera support as the default FCS format.
There is no "default codec" in FCP. FCP works with many formats/codecs natively.
