No music in slideshow after send to iDVD

After having made many movies and disc images that work fine, I decided to make a slideshow in iPhoto, then send it to iDVD to burn a disc.
The pictures show up--minus the random transitions that were set in the slideshow--and there is no music. Though the music plays in the iDVD preview, there is no sound on the slideshow when I play it through a DVD player, or even if I try to play the disc on my Macbook.
I've got two shiny new drink coasters as a result.
What am I doing wrong, or not doing?
Thanks!

Kurt:
Have you run any updates shortly before this happened or changed media brand/type? Are you saving the iDVD project to Disk Image before burning? If not use that method and then mount the disk image and play it with QT Player. If all is well there then burn with disk utility at the slowest speed provided. If it still loses those transitions then I'd change the media brand. Verbatim 's DVD-Rs ares considered to be one of the best in the iDVD forum.
Do you Twango?

  • IMovieHD or iMovie 08 for making slideshow to send to iDVD?

Is there any quality difference (in algorithms etc) when making a slideshow to send to iDVD?
I am making a short movie to burn to a DVD and really like the updated tools in iMovie 08 (easier Ken Burns in my opinion) but iMovie 08 can't really do chapters (and I NEED chapters). Can I make an "outline" of the iMovie in iMovie HD (with all the songs and chapters laid out) and then import it to iMovie 08 to do the slides? Will there be any difference in the final product, or is just the interface different (but the way a jpg is processed the same)?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Or you can also search this forum and look for Garage Band to create custom chapter markers within iLife'08.
You may want to consider using apple's free download of iM6 for this purpose also (much easier)......

  • Slideshow timing changes after sending to iDVD--why?

After much work, I finally got my slide show perfectly synchronized to the lyrics of the song being used, then exported to iDVD. I made no adjustment or changes in iDVD other than choosing & customizing the opening menu theme (which is separate from & has no bearing on show). I was horrified to discover that the timing changed, throwing off the image/lyric sync, which is crucial to the "story" of the show.
If all the iLife apps are supposed to be so tightly integrated, why does this happen???

I wonder if you can have iPhoto make the QuickTime movie of your slideshow, and if it would preserve your timings, and would that stick when sending to iDVD.
This sounds like a job for QuickTime Kirk....

  • After "Send to iDVD" this is what happens...

    Hi Kids
Why is it everytime I "Send to iDVD" a slideshow, then when iDVD launches,
an old Slideshow loads, (including photos in the Drop zones, etc.)
why won't it give me a fresh screen with blank Drop Zones etc.?
    thanks
    Rob

    Hi cre8tive2
It will (or at least it should) if your drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash.
drag and drop the plist for iDVD to the trash and empty the trash (then Restart the computer). Pref's look like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
(copy and paste the above item & please use the Finder to locate these pref's on your system).
If the above fails to address this issue, then please also Repair Permissions using Apple's Disc Utilities. Good luck and Hope this Helps.

  • No pictures in slideshow after sending to Adobe Premiere Elements

Created a slideshow and when I sent it to Adobe Premiere Elements there were no pictures, just the transitions.  Help.

    Hi,
Can you please some details about how you created the slideshow and which file-formats did you use??

  • Why is the "Send to iDVD" command missing from the share menu in iPhoto 9.4.3 when trying to send a slideshow to iDVD?

How come the "Send to iDVD" command is missing from the share menu? In iPhoto I used to be able to send my slideshows to iDVD simply my clicking on the slideshow, selecting the "Share" menu at the top and going to "Send to iDVD". Now in iPhoto 9.4.3 that option is missing.
Further i am also using iDVD 7.1.2 and running OSX version 10.8.3.
    Thanks!

Export the slideshow via the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window with Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, choose a theme and drag the exported movie file to the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Slideshow in iphoto, once shared send to idvd, becomes lower quality

    Hello,
I made a slideshow in iphoto 8.1.2 that looks great, using the "snapshot" theme. I need to be able to play this in a regular dvd player attached to a tv. I hit share > send to idvd.
In idvd 7.0.4, I set up my menu page (used "shelves" theme), set my show to loop and then previewed everything, and the resolution looks like crap compared to the original slideshow from iphoto. I haven't even put it on a dvd yet, because I figure if the resolution looks worse in idvd preview than in iphoto preview, I need to resolve that before burning.
Within idvd, my project preferences are set to ntsc, professional quality encoding, and single layer dvd type. I just noticed now my preferred dvd burning speed is set to maximum possible, so maybe that's the problem. But before I try again, is there anything else I should do differently to maintain the original image quality from iphoto?
My knowledge level of both macs and ilife is very basic, so please keep that in mind with any replies.
    Thanks so much,
    Tony

    Hi Zeravla
Welcome to Apple Discussions. Sorry to hear about the loss in resolution when working with slide shows within iDvd. You're not the first member on this forum to experience this. It's the nature of the beast (sorry to say) when working with Standard Definition and then burning to Dvd-R. iDVD makes DVDS, which are by definition "standard definition" / SD. Keeping this in mind, here are a few suggestions on the following threads /discussions already covered within this forum:

iTunes music not playing in iPhoto slideshow after upgrading to Maverick....Why?

Yes, the tracks were purchased in the iTunes store. I'm sure that DRM is the culprit. Seems like an obvious answer now that I think about it.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Music for slideshows

How do I add additional music to a slideshow I create in I-Photo? When I choose more than one song it only plays the last one selected.

If you plan on using iDVD to burn the iPhoto slideshow to disk the only factor to consider is the playing time of it . iDVD can burn a 120 minute QT movie file. If you're going to use the finder and burn the resulting QT movie file export the file and check the size.
If you do use iDVD I suggest after sending the slideshow to iDVD, delete it from the iDVD project, create a slideshow in iDVD and open its organizational window. Go to your Movies folder, locate the movie file just created and drag into the iDVD slideshow. This will allow the movie to be scaled to the TV safe area and not have any of it lost when played on a TV set due to TV overscan.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have a folder in your User folder titled Movies? If not then that's the reason. iPhoto looks for that folder to save the Quicktime file into as it imports into iDVD.

  • Send to iDVD

Im using fairly hi-res photos in a slideshow that I want to send to iDVD, but the result in iDVD appears to be 640x480, which looks blocky and defeats the purpose of using hi-res in the first place! How can I get this to work? I hope I don't have to change the size of all my 440+ photos!

I've sent to iDVD a slideshow that I created a couple years ago and when it opened up in a new iDVD project and I played it, there was no blockiness at all from the hi-res photos that I used. When I sent to iDVD my newest slideshow, the new iDVD project, when played, showed blockiness. The only difference between the old slideshow and the new is that the old contains no images higher than resolution 3072x2048, whereas most of the photos in the new slideshow have a resolution of 4288x2848. Does this imply that there is a photo dimensions limit that when sent to iDVD results in a slideshow that isn't blocky?
I'd create the slideshow in iDVD but the encoded result has still the same blockiness and the audio cuts out momentarily after 99 photos, which, although a limitation in iDVD's slideshows, is definitely not acceptable in my final version!

  • Error sending to idvd

I created several slideshows in iphoto 5.0.4 and when i clicked 'send to idvd' i got an error message 'the export movie file could not be created.' what's going on? i now also get this message with slideshows that i was able to send to idvd in the past.

    hi lori,
no, i'm not running norton. i tried deleting the iphoto preferences file and that didn't work either. it's weird. the only unusual thing i did was sign up for an itunes account and buy some music.

  • Specifying "Send to iDVD" folder ??

When I choose "Send to iDVD" under the "Share" menu, it begins to send my slideshow to the Movies folder on my main HD. I do not have enough room open on that drive and would like to change the folder that "Send to iDVD" uses so it will use a folder on my 2nd internal HD. Is there a way to specify which folder this operation will use?
    Thanks.....Ron

  • PIXELATED IMAGES AFTER EXPORT TO IDVD

Help! I'm confused and frustrated. I have imported 65 images from iPhoto to iMovie and added titles, music and a few transitions. The movie plays fine in iMovie full screen on my 20 inch iMac. After exporting to Idvd project a number of the images (most) are pixelated and even more confusing (at least to me), when I return to the original iMovie (which was great before the export) now those images are pixelated also. WHAT IS GOING ON? , how can I avoid this? Hope I am in the right forum.

Bengt: Right now I'm jubilant. Tried your methodology, and results were beautiful. Good burn and no JAGGIES. Then made a disc image and tried a burn from that. Great. If this continues I owe you a "GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!" I have been struggling with this problem far to long. Next I want to try adding some more complex transitions and perhaps some Ken Burns and hoping to see the same SMOOTHE lines. Too bad more people don't know about this for I see others posting about pixelation.
    For now, I remain grateful.
