No music or playlists on my iTunes?

I hooked up my nano to my iTunes and my iTunes wont show that I have any playlists or music, what do I do?

Well this depends if your songs you had on your itunes were downloaded or you bought it at the itunes store. If you bought it at the itunes store and it is not there anymore for any reason you lost all your music, but it you downloaded your music and transported it to itunes you have to look for the files in your computer and transport it to itunes again.

  • Where is my music and playlists? Opened iTunes to find my music and playlists gone, as if I just loaded iTunes for the first time.

Running Windows 64 bit.  This has happened before.  It was running great for the last 8 months (including this morning), syncing no problem with a variety of Apple devices.  Opened it today and it is like I have a brand new iTunes loaded up with no music or playlists.
Please assist getting my music back and playlists (took hours to rebuild playlists last time).  Why does this happpen?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

  • How to get music and playlists back on iTunes after reinstalling Mavericks?

My macbook pro (from 2010) had a problem today. Whenever starting up, a grey screen would appear and after the screen would shut off immediately. So after sitting all day trying to fix the problem I decided to reinstall Mavericks (which worked). However, my iTunes is completely wiped clean. I have all my music files still on my computer but not in the iTunes. Is there a way to get them all back without having to drag and drop each file one by one? And is it possible to get all my old playlists back with the dates added/play counts etc.? Need help ASAP! Thanks guys!

Regaining your playlists depends upon if you can find the original iTunes Library.itl file.  This should be in your iTunes folder but may have been replaced by a newer version which is blank.  I don't know why your music is still there but not your library file and I suspect there is something non-standard to your setup about which we don't know.

Of course if you have a backup you can replace the blank file with one from the backup.
Failing restoring your .itl file there is no need to add media one by one.  Drag all the folders with the media to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder in your iTunes/Media folder.

    Hello ryane84
The easiest and most efficient way to copy your music is to follow the steps under the External drive section. Make sure that you have organized the iTunes library first before you copy it over. Then put the copied iTunes folder in the same Music folder on your computer.

  • I am unable to synch music from selected playlists in my iTunes library onto my new iPod Classic, despite meticulously following the User Guide.

I just purchased an iPod Classic, and after making sure I had the latest ver. of iTunes on my Intel MacMini, printed out the User Guide and carefully began learning how to operate the iPod. My first step was to ensure I had manual control (vs. auto synch) because I want only selected songs and playlists on the iPod, not my whole iTunes Library.
On pg. 24 of the Guide is the topic "Synching music from selected playlists onto iPod Classic." Just what I wanted. OK, I selected iPod "in the source list" (aside: Shouldn't it be "in the device list?" I dispair of imprecision). This brought up the iPod Summary page, showing I had selected Open iTunes when connected and Manually manage music and videos. Next I clicked on the Music tab.
This presented me with Synch Music next to an empty check box. Below it, and entirely grayed out was:
Entire music library (showing a checked box)
Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres (next to an unchecked box).
There's also a third grayed out item: Include music videos that is checked.
When I selected Synch Music, I got the message: "Are you sure you want to removed existing mlusic, movies and TV shows from the iPod and synch with this iTunes LIbrary?   I selected Cancel because:
    1. The grayed option Entire Music Library is checked, not mly preferred option of Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. .
    2. I can't find anywhere in the User Guide how to "Select the Playlists" I want to synch to my iPod. At present all I have in iTunes is my list of playlists in the left hand side bar.
OK, my first thought was the checked box in the iPod's Summary window: Manually manage music and videos. So I went there and unchecked it, which immediately brought up an alert  to the effect "Are you sure you want to automatically synch your entire iTunes library, etc. etc...? I quickly cancelled. Thus, I seem to be in a Catch-22 situation.
    So the questions are:
How do I resolve the Synch Music issue so I am assured only selected playlists will be sent to my iPod?
How do I create a list of playlists in my iTunes library to be transferred to my iPod?
How do I manually move a playlist in my iTunes library to my iPod's lists of playlists?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks to all.

For the immediately problem, you can shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.
There may be a process (program) running on your computer in the background that continuously monitors mounted volumes for things like maintenance, data corruption, and malware.  The iPod's storage is a mounted volume.  If you know of any such program, such as an "anti-virus" utility, and it has settings that allow you to exclude certain volumes, you can set it to ignore the iPod "disk" when connected.
Also, if you are using automatic syncing (not the manual method) to load the iPod, and you have Enable disk use turned ON, turn it OFF.  With Enable disk use turned OFF, iTunes only mounts the iPods disk when syncing, then immediately unmounts the disk.  Thus, other processes you have running on your PC (not iTunes) will have less of a chance to make the disk "in use" and cause this problem.  You won't even have to eject the iPod before disconnecting.

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

  • How can I migrate my itunes music and playlists from my old PC to my new macbook?

    Hi
I have a approx 250 GB of music and itunes content to move to my new macbook pro (running Lion) from my PC laptop (Windows 7)
I'd like to retain all the playlists that I have painstakingly built over the past few years but I dont want to rebuild them all manually. I'm not concerned about retaining info on play counts etc, I want to copy all the media to the mac and replicate the playlists.
None of the media is in the default itunes location (normally in Music in My Documents), the iTunes Media folder lives in another folder on my harddrive called 'Audio etc'. The majority of the music files are in various subfolders I created manually and the newest stuff lives in the iTunes Media folder (since I recently told iTunes to organise new music for me).
When I've moved my music from PC to PC I simply copied all the itunes files and copied my music to folders replicating the same file paths as per the previous computer so the playlists are looking for the music files in all the right locations. Easy.
I considered copying all the itunes library files from the pc to replace the existing itunes files on my mac and copy across all my music (not sure where to put it though).
I expect the 'migrate files' setup wizard on the mac would help me in this situation or is it cleverer that I think?
One suggestion I read was to use the consolidate function in iTunes which will copy my entire collection to the iTunes Media folder and I assume will update the file locations for the playlists and library file then some how migrate that to the mac. Only problem is my harddrive will not have nearly enough space to have duplicate copies of all that music in the iTunes Media folder and it's original location at the same time.
    Any suggestions?
I'm stupidly trying to do all this in time for a DJ gig tomorrow night but if I get desperate I'll just have to copy my music over and manually create some of my important playlists.
    Thanks
    Jon

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

Something has changed on my iPod. When I sync it now it scrambles music between playlists. So, I will be listening to my jazz playlist when suddenly holiday music from another playlist is there. When I go to iTunes, however, the playlist is as it should be--jazz in the jazz playlist, holiday music in the holiday music playlist. I have two iPods--one is syncing properly while the older one is not. Any thoughts?

You are currently managing your music manually. You can either sync or manage the music manually, not both. If you want to sync, all the music currently on your phone will be erased and replaced with whatever you decide to sync to it.

  • I have an iPod Classic 5th Gen.  After 1 month I've lost all my music and playlist files.  The only files left are music I have purchased from iTunes.  How do I restore my music library to my iPod?

I have an iPod Classic 5th Generation.  I have not used it for about one month.  When I turned it on, I had lost all my music and playlist files.  The only thing left on the iPod was the music and audio books I have purchased from iTunes store.  I tried to delete everything on the ipod by sliding the hold button and then pressing the center button and the menu and I saw the apple logo on the screen but the iPod wouldn't reboot.  Any suggestions as to how I can delete everything on the iPod and then plug it into my computer to restore my music library?  I am using a Windows 7 operating system.

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes 10.6.3 (25) & ML 10.8.1--moving music in playlist stuttering

    Good Morning,
    I'm running Mountain Lion on 7 different machines. Our workhorses are our iMacs...2--2011 core i5 (2.7GHz/12GB RAM/1TB HDD) and 2--2010, I believe core i3 (3.2GHz/12GB RAM/1TB HDD). As well, we have 2 17" MBPs (2011 Core i7 2.5GHz/8GB RAM) and a 2012 15" Retina MBP.
All of them, EVERY single one of them is stuttering while moving tracks within playlists.  If my playlist is longer than the actual 'Windowed' area of iTunes...and I attempt to move the track 'up' the list---it's not smooth any more (as it was in Lion, SL, Leopard, et al)....in the past OS'es...if you click, hold and move a track 'up' the playlist....got it near the top, it would start smoothly 'moving' the list up while you looked for your drop zone:)  Hope this makes sense, because it's really, REALLY annoying. We use these computers for our mobile entertainment business. We've done 112 weddings so far this summer with another couple dozen to go before the end of October.  We're very, very busy---and these iMacs are incredibly convenient for holding our entire 'audio' library.  With over 20,000 sound EFX, drops, beds, bumpers---well over 55,000 actual songs (plenty of redundancy with extra mixes for specific tracks, etc)....the ability (when I purchased them) to have a TB installed vs the choices on the laptops...as well as the size (for reading), wireless mice and keyboard...they look very professional and work well with Serato and Traktor, our sources of choice.
However, playing background/cocktail/dinner music---nothing works better than iTunes. This issue has never been a problem before. Now it's nearly impossible to move a track within a playlist unless your playlist is only a 'window' long---depending on the resolution and size you've got your iTunes window, this can be anywhere from 30-50 songs (that are visible).  For now, as we've got plenty of playlists that are 100-300 songs in length. I'm now just moving a track 30 spots up, scrolling the playlist back up another 30/40 spots...moving the track to the top....scrolling up, moving track, yada yada. Or copy/paste has actually become my go to solution---for now. However, this, obviously...adds redundant tracks to the playlist (unless I delete tune after copying). It's truly a PITA...and it's bizarre I've not heard or read anyone else complaining of this issue.
I probably shouldn't have upgraded all my machines to ML right off the bat---but I had NO problems with Lion. Loved it! The gestures are awesome...the Track Pad has become my best friend---and I didn't read any compatiblity issues with any of the hardware we use.  Still---to this point, I've had no other 'challenges' with Mountain Lion on any of my machines.
I figure---since this behavior is evident on ALL my machines, which are relatively recent builds hardware-wise...ALL with plenty of RAM for these applications, it must be a system-wide behavior. I also kinda hoped it would be silently 'fixed' with today's maintenance update....Not a chance. Behavior is still exactly the same (after updating 3 of the iMacs and two of the MBPs)...so it hasn't been addressed. I've not yet filed a 'ticket' with Apple, haven't called the help desk---never have. In fact, I think this is the first challenge I've not been able to find myself a workaround for...so I've rarely a reason to visit a genius, call Apple, or utilize this board.
Is anyone else in front of an iTunes library with playlists that may have more than 60 or 70 tracks in it that would be willing to give it a go? Again...simply moving a track up in the playlist from the bottom to the top (the playlist MUST be longer than what is visible in the screen).
Second---I know this is getting WAY too long...but the BIG issue here is if you try to move a song that is currently playing 'up the playlist'...it actually freezes iTunes for several seconds---maybe even 8 or 10 seconds!!! It still continues to play the song, without any glitches....but it is absolutely impossible move a 'playing' track up or down the playlist without really F'ing up the computer for a brief period of time!!! This is a real pain and I'm not sure what the correct way to tell Apple about it would be. Do they monitor this board? Is there a specific place to address this on apple.com
Thanks everyone for reading this diatribe!! I know it got a bit long--Sorry!
    Jeremy

Is there anyone that can verify they're having this same issue? I called Apple to report the 'glitch' but I'm looking for any others with the same challenge and whether or not you've found a work around.
Again--I rely heavily on iTunes for business. We use it constantly for live performances...both on it's own and it's integration with Traktor, Serato and DJay
    Thanks Everyone!
    Jeremy
