No nested folders in Saved Locations?

I love the Saved Locations feature in the Map module.  I imagine I will end up with large amounts of these over time, but currently the folder structure seems to be limited to root level folders.  Would it be possible to upgrade this to allow nested folders, in the same way as the Collections panel works?  I have large sets of incrementally nested location keywords, and it would be great to be able to mimic this structure here.
Nested folders would allow much better organisation of large collections of saved locations.  For example, I would sort first by country, then by province, then by area before finally having the locations themselves.
Overall, great work on the Map module.  There are various features and further integrations that it would be nice to see added in the future (maps in books and web, export options to create photo maps, adjustable altitude field in GPS metadata, etc.) but this is great for a first version.

I can confirm that Lightroom creates an LR-xx folder when trying to Undo a "New Folder" action......but in my case at least simply right-clicking on the LR-xx folder and selecting "Delete" gets rid of it.
Windows 7, LR4.1.
If that's not working for you, you could try using Explorer/Finder to delete the LR-xx folders out of the "Locations" sub-folder of the Lightroom settings folder.

  • How to copy nested folders list?

    Is there a way to copy file lists stored in multiple nested folders into other programs, e.g. MS Excel? There was such feature in Mac OS9. For instance, if you copy folder contents of multiple folders located within each other, and paste it into Excel workbook, the files in those folders were placed into indented list, with the level of indentation reflecting the nesting order of the original folders. This was a very useful feature to create records of all files you have in an archive, and for creating databases of the multiple folders content. Is there such a feature in Mac OS X? If not, what could be another solution for capturing names of all files stored within a set of nested folders?

    komich,
    You can do something similar using Automator. Open up your Mac's Automator program and set up a workflow using the following actions:
    1) Ask for Finder Items -- this action from Automator's Finder Library. Select from the drop-down, Type: Files and Folders.
    2) Get Folder Contents -- also from the Finder Library. Check "Repeat for each subfolder found."
    3) New Text File -- from Automator's TextEdit Library.
    Save the Workflow as an application.
    When the application is run you will be presented with a Choose a Finder Item dialog. Navigate to the desired folder and press Choose. A new text file will be generated with a list of the nested files and folders, albeit, without the indentation formatting you're looking for.
    Note that the workflow can also be saved either as a droplet or a Finder Plug-in. Simply eliminate the Ask for Finder Items action, so that Get Folder Contents and New Text File become steps 1 and 2 respectively. If saved as a droplet, drag and drop a folder onto the saved application icon; if saved as a Finder Plug-in, right-click, or Control-click, on a folder and select your workflow from the Automator contextual menu.
    Good luck!

  • How do I batch unlock files in nested folders in Time Capsule

    I am attempting to back up my computer to my Time Capsule, but Time Machine is unable to complete the backup because of lack of space. Part of the problem is that my wife used the TC a couple of years ago to back up some folders manually (i.e. not using Time Machine) and these take up a lot of room. I am unable to delete them, as there are a number of files deep within the folder structure of her photo library that are locked. To locate and unlock them all one by one would take weeks of work, so I either need to find a way to unlock them as a batch, or I will have to reformat the drive. I'm reluctant to do the latter, as that would mean also deleting the most recent backups that my wife and I have both made of our machines using TM.
    I have tried using terminal to do the batch unlock, by moving into the relevant high level folders and using the command
    chflags nouchg *
    as advised elsewhere in these forums, but this doesn't seem to have worked. I am guessing that perhaps it doesn't get into all the nested folder structure. Other advice I have found relates to forcing the trash to empty, but as the TC is an external drive I can't even get as far as dragging these folders into the trash.
    So I would be grateful if anyone could advise how I might batch unlock the files in the nested folders within TC.
    Thanks in advance

    Awesome. Thanks Matthew for finding this utility. I downloaded it used it on 7,000 locked files in all sorts of different folders and it worked within minutes. Saved me a lot of time because Terminal was a pain to use. And it didn't always work.

  • Warning: you have exceeded the limit of 100 nested folders

    in red letters in Disk Utility. Machine slows and slows. Where, how, why, and whence do these folders get nested? and how to unnest, which one doesnt know which they are or where they are, out of thousands of folders? No utility out there can help, it seems.

    I have the exact same problem. I have an iMac G3,
    600MHz, 512MB RAM, 40 GB capacity, running 10.4.7. I
    have been using Apple Macs since their innovation.
    My computer is running a little slower, but I do not
    know if "Nesting of folders has exceeded the
    recommended limit of 100" is the culprit.
    I use Photoshop (on 9.2.2) quite a lot, but otherwise
    I use 10.4.7 all the time for everything else. I have
    searched the Information pages and Discussion panels
    for an explanation and solution, all to no avail.
    Nothing dastardly appears to have happened or about
    to happen to my computer, so I shall just keep on
    using it regardless. In the meantime, however, I
    shall keep looking for an explanation and I hope, a
    solution.

    thanks for your interest. I dont know what causes all those nested folders; but I am on 10.4.8 now and no change in (mis)behavior. I run a G4 with now with 1600 speed from a replaced heart or whatever, and have 1.25 G Ram.. I find that I can locate all Empty folders with Spring cleaning, and delete them and get the machine running better and normally. I also clean up regularly with DISK WARRION, which seems to be hecessary, as well as Drive Genius from ProSoft Engineering. Meanwhile, I buy lottery tix, in hopes of a later Mac Pro desktop

  • How to create nested folders (i.e. a folder within a folder)

    I was reading the booklet which came with iWork 08 and noticed (in a screen dump showing how to import images from iPhoto to Pages) a 'twisty' against an iPhoto folder. This (to me) implied that I can have a folder within a folder. i.e. I could have a 'Holidays' folder, then within there one for 'South Africa trip' and another for 'France trip' etc...etc...
    I went into iPhoto this morning, but can find no way of doing this. I tried dragging and dropping, but the folders are all at the same level - i.e. the top level.
    The help system actually said I could do this - but not how to do it.
    Can someone enlighten me please? I'm sure it's something simple!
    Thanks

    Alasdair
    It certainly is possible to have nested folders and drag and drop is the way to do it.
    IF D&D isn't working, try quit iPhoto and launch it again. Then try once more.

    I recently transferred my ITunes library to an external hard drive.  I made sure to copy all the data from the saved location.  After the transfer I noticed that a lot of albums are missing the first song and some recently purchased albums are missing.  Is there any way to recover the data?  Thanks for any help.

    I may have found an answer here:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
    They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

  • Can't put files into nested folders in dock

    Whenever I try to put a file into a folder I have in my dock, it will only let me put it in the first level of the folder. Ideally, I would want the folder to pop open and show the next level of folders so I can navigate through levels of nested folders to put the file in the exact place I want deep within my folder hierarchy. I know I can hold down Control on a folder in the dock to show my nested folders, but how can I drag files into those nested folders? I thought this was supposed to be automatic in Tiger. Please help.

    Yes- Easy!
    When you have your Creative Media Explorer open and your portable device connected, you will see your Zen V Series Media Explorer in the SOURCE window in the upper LH corner. Click on the "+" in front of the Zen V Series icon and it will display the list of folders on the device.
    Right click on the main folder for the category you want to put the sub folder in and you will get a drop down menu.
    Select "New folder" and you will get the "New Folder" box asking you what name you want for your new folder. It's that easy.

  • Best way to import videos only for nested folders?

    I have a bunch of nested folders like this
    TOP LEVEL
    -> Day 1
    ->->Videos
    ->->Photos
    -> Day 2
    ->->Videos
    ->->Photos
    Day 69...
    Now I can't just choose import on the top level, because I don't want to import any of the photos.
    I don't want to click on each individual videos folder because I'm afraid that I will miss one along the way.
    What is the most organized way to import this?
    Also, would you recommend having all the Days as one big event, or each separate event?
    Thanks!

    Russ's suggestion is probably the easiest to implement - and if you use external media you won't incur in much hard drive space penalty for it.
    If you really want to import just the video and not the audio, here is a small shell script that you may use to replicate the structure of your folders, using symlinks, and omitting the photos file. It assumes only one level down.
    You could copy and paste the text below to a file, replacing the two occurences of <path-of-top-folder> with the actual path of that folder, make the file executable and run it in Terminal.
    (a similar thing could probably be achieved with a little applescript or perhaps automator, as well)
    Note: I tested this in a small example, and it worked for me, but there is no guarantee, of course; but since the script below only creates some folders and symlinks, it is nondestructive, at least. At the end you should have at the same level as the original a "videos-only" folder replicating the structure of the videos using symlinks (no copied media).
    Here is the script:

  • Creating nested folders in the resource view

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if there is a way to create a set of nested folders in the resource view in one go?
    The following works if the path /home/cosmos already exists but fails if only /home exists, i.e. it looks like the createfolder method can only create one depth of folder at a time.
    ---8<--
    declare
    result boolean;
    begin
    result := dbms_xdb.createfolder('/home/cosmos/test1');
    end
    ---8<---
    Failure message if only path '/home' exists:
    ---8<---
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-31001: Invalid resource handle or path name "/home/cosmos"
    ORA-06512: at "XDB.DBMS_XDB", line 195
    ORA-06512: at line 4
    ---8<---
    The problem is that the paths are being created dynamically by the application in response to details in xml messages received. We're rather hoping not to have to write the loop to test each section of the path and create it if it doesn't exist.
    Thanks,
    Marcus

    No. You would have to use Video Playlists.

  • Default Saving Location Adobe Reader Version 11.0.1

    Default Saving Location Adobe Reader 11.0.1 -
    Since upgrading to Reader XI the default saving location no longer works. So esssentially in previous versions The file path would default to the last place you saved a document, so when saving multiple documents in the one file path it wasn't time consuming.
    Since upgrading it does not do this anymore and you have to select the file saving path each time you open a new PDF, which adds to the time to save multiple documents, so currently I guess it just opens a temporary folder each time you select Save As.
    Can you please advise the setting that needs to be altered to fix this.
    Thanks

    Thank you.  We have tried that but it has not made any difference.  Adobe still requires a new file name to save the file.

  • "nested folders" error message

    When I use Disk Utility to "Verify Disk" (my iMac's internal hard drive), it says in red:
    "nesting of folders has exceeded the recommended limit of 100" . At the bottom it says in green "Volume passed verification," but under that in red it says "Volume needs repair."
    Anybody know what the nested folders limit of 100 means, and how I can figure out where this is coming from (like what folders)? I can't imagine that I have any folders going 100 levels deep.
    Thanks.

    Yes, Andy's link gave several examples of this happening, most times from an application nesting inside itself. I wouldn't have known how to find the rogue folder, but the link gave a very easy terminal command (I'm not a terminal user normally).

  • Map Saved Locations & multiple computers

    After spending hours of entering GPS coordinates and organizing them into Saved Locations, I was stunned to realize that when I attach the hard drive upon which my Catalogs and photos reside to my other computer-the Map module 'Saved Locations' are not there.
    This tells me that the 'Saved Locations' infomation resides on the computer upon which they were created. How can I get those to my other computer?

    Right mouse click on any saved location in Map module to display the context menu, choose 'Show in Finder/Explorer'. This will open a Finder/Explorer window with a folder labelled 'Locations' or 'My Locations'. Your saved locations should be stored in the relevant folder. You can then copy this folder over to other computer/disk drive.

  • Can I copy folders or nested folders from a PC to a Mac?

    can I copy folders or nested folders from a PC to a Mac?

    Sure you can. I have folders on my Mac from my PCs and folder from my Mac backed up on my PCs. In fact I have the complete drive from my Mac, including every file and folder (even the OS files and folders) stored on a couple of my PCs and external drives.
    It is called Networking.

  • Is there a way to "nest" folders in iPhoto?

    I'd like to create folders for my kids and then categorize them by year of age. Is there a way to nest folders. Main folder for each child, then subfolders by year of age? Thanks!

    Like this:
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
