No network/"Battery Unvailable"/Deleted a file? Urgent!

I think I might've deleted a file that allows my Powerbook G4 to get online. The network will not connect and it says "Battery Unavailable" at the top with a big "X" next to the battery.
Energy pane in the system preferences only shows the bottom half of the page and when I go to the network pane nothing shows up. Airport won't even connect or show some of the items it had before.
I think I might've accidently deleted either a com. file or another file.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

bump...
Any ideas?
I might add I have no way of transferring files from the laptop to another computer right now and I don't have the installation disk with me right now.
The files are not in the trash can and theres nothing wrong with the battery.
I'm just interested in finding the files that are related to 1)power management (energy) 2)Battery or 3)Airport (or Network--Internet) that might have to do with these 3 problems.
Also I get a message before logging in that says something to the effect that I can't be logged in...Please contact your administrator (me...no one else) and then the accounts I have log in anyways.

  • Update/delete text file - Urgent

hi guys, i have a text file. Using io package i would like to search a particular string in the file. when i got the search string either i have to update some text in that row or i have to delete the row. how can i do that. If any one tried pls let me know with code. Ur valuable suggestion are welcome.
    thax in advance

An obvious method is to copy the whole file with the changes made into a temporary file .
After the operation delete the orginal file and rename the temporary file to orginal file.

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.

  • How to delete referenced file on network storage

When I try to use the "delete master image and all versions" and check the "move referenced files to trash" I get an error saying that aperture doesn't have permission to move the file to the trash. I don't understand as I am opening the network volume with read/write permissions. I can delete from the finder so I don't understand why aperture can't do the same. I need to be able to delete referenced files from Aperture. I guess I "just don't get it".

You could relocate the master, within Aperture, to a local disk. And then delete >>it.
Yes, but that's where it becomes a real issue. When I decide to delete an item I have to do each one manually. That's a real pain.
What I am doing is moving new projects local until I sort them out and then move the masters to the network drive.
It would be great if Aperture really fully supported all functions on the network store. Especially since finder can do it without difficulty.
Thanks for your time and input.

  • Network User Can't Delete Desktop Files

I'm not sure if this is a server or dekstop question because I'm not sure where the problem is, but I'll start here.
I have a user that cannot delete files on his desktop, and now can't change his desktop background.  He is a networked user on a 10.6.2 iMac.  His account is on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 server.  When I try to delete the file, it prompts for administrator authentication.  I enter it in, but nothing happens.  No errors appear and the file doesn't delete.  When I look at the details, it says "com.apple.desktopservices".  I have done the following things:
    1.  Reapplied rights to his folder in the Get Info Box
    2.  Deleted him from Workgroup Manager and re-created his account
    3.  Checked that the file isn't locked
    4.  Checked that the desktop folder isn't locked
    5.  Verified his permissions are correct on all folders
    6.  Ran Disk Utility on his machine
    7.  Tried his account on another machine (same result as on his machine)
Based on another forum, I moved the com.apple.desktop.plist file out of his library and logged him in again. The only thing that I noticed is the background picture changed back to default.  I moved the file back, but the desktop picture is still back to default and if I go into System Prefences, I can't change the background or screen saver.
Something is messed up somewhere with his desktop settings, but I can't figure out where.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Today I backed up my Open Directory master on the server, deleted it and recreated it from the backup. No change unfortunately and still the same message:
"The document xxx.yyy could not be saved. You don't have permission."
    Any good suggestions available?

  • Delete PDF file from a folder

    Hi!
please help me this is urgent..
i try to delete pdf file from my local pc how to do that ??
can some one help me i need it by today please help me ..
    thanks to all of you...

    newbie

First you open a File to the specified file, and then you call delete(). Easy
    File file = new File("path/filename");
file.delete();Of course if you want to make your application cross-platform you will need to build a correct path somehow. Check out the static attributes of the File class to help you (fx. File.separator).

  • Issue with FTP command while deleting a file.

    Hello All,
I am trying to delete a file from the FTP server after the file is processed. I am able to connect to the server, I am able to pick the .csv file and place the data in an internal table, and am able to process it as required in SAP. After the processing, I need to delete that file from the FTP server. I did not change the working directory and gv_filename is the variable which is holding the filename. I am using the following code
concatenate 'delete' gv_filename into lv_cmd separated by space.
      REFRESH mdata.
      CALL FUNCTION 'FTP_COMMAND'
        EXPORTING
          handle        = gv_handle
          command       = lv_cmd
        TABLES
          data          = mdata[]
        EXCEPTIONS
          tcpip_error   = 1
          command_error = 2
          data_error    = 3
          OTHERS        = 4.
When I check the mdata which returns the result of the command, I get the message 550: unable to delete <pat>\filename,
where as the file does exist. Is there any condition where in we may not be authorized to delete the file? If so is there any way to check that?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sachin

    Hi Sachin Dargan,
Yes.. You need to get read and write access for the directory of FTP file server where it is located..
Ask to BASIS or Network admin to give your authorization for it..
Also using upper case in single quotes is better.. as sometimes it may cause problem..
concatenate 'DELETE' gv_filename into lv_cmd separated by space.
Hope it will solve your problem..
    Thanks & Regards

  • Cannot delete .PDF files from a shared folder.

    Hello,
I am having issues with deleting/renaming PDF files!
Permissions is not an issue as even logged in as the Network Administrator of the Domain, I still can't delete the file.
The error message I'm recieving is:  cannot delete xxxx.pdf It is being used by another person or program.  Close any programs that might be using this file and try again.
There are only 1 or 2 users that would have access to the files and neither of them are using them.  I can also reset the security permissions for the file and take ownership, but even after doing these things it doesn't make a difference?
I've tried various unlocking tools (Unlocker) and none of them report that the file is open or that there are any locks on them.  This only happens with PDF files. If I reboot the sever the problem will go away, but this server needs to be 99.999% of the
    time!
    Help please!

    Hi,
Windows is somehow accessing Thumbs.db during the time of the folder move/delete attempt.  Please go into Folder options > View > Always show icons, never thumbnails to check if you can delete .PDF files.
For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:

  • Cannot Delete CPTL file from Desktop using Vista

    Hi All,
I cannot Delete CPTL file from Desktop using Vista. Explorer
crashes. It is a Captivate 2 file.
I have tried (with no luck):
    - logging in as a different user and deleting the file.
    - running explorer as an Administrator
    - uninstalling Captivate.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Raef

    Hi Raef,
That is a strange issue. Here are a couple more ideas you
    could try:
    - Have you tried renaming the file (including suffix)?
    - Have you rebooted?
    - Do you get any error messages when trying to delete, such
    as "Acess Denied"?
    - Is your machine networked? Is it possible someone else has
    the file open?
    - Can the file be moved to another location or put in a
    folder (and then deleted)?
    - Have you tried using the Command Prompt / DOS mode to
    delete the file?
It sounds like it could be a Vista issue so I would look at
the Microsoft Vista forums too. Sorry I do not have an exact
    answer.
    IHTH,
    Aaron

  • Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files but still have them on the TC for future reference..

Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files on iMac 20inch but still have them on the TC for future reference..eg some movies on iTunes. I want to directly save them on the drive so I can delete them from iTunes and gain some storage. (Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

I couldnt do anything but a cold shutdown and I tried.. After the restart I tried to delete the folder again with no issues. rtorrent did a hash check of it after the restart and returned missing chunks, which is ofc no surprise as I tried to delete the whole thing.. I removed the torrent from the client and just then deleted the rest though.
I don't know if its related, but if I delete a file which is linked to a torrent, the free space on the hdd isnt necessarily changed until I remove the torrent from the client.
    Thanks.

  • Deleting audio file on device + Mac once and for all

Deleting audio file on device + Mac once and for all
    Hi and good day,
I don't listen much to music, but mostly audio files (radio programmes etc.)
But there is still one big drawback with iTunes:
What I want to do is to be able to __delete__ an audio file (or song)
on my iPad/iPod/iPhone (the Mac Library is there via Home Sharing)
    once and for all:
I don't want to have to go back to iTunes and delete them there.
I want to delete them on the device and forget about them!
    Please Apple it's about time.
    Any suggestions welcome!
    with best regards,
    Omar KN

    Hi
i would say use Skype http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/macosx/
aMSN and Mercury only do video no audio, these are the only 2 progams that do video on the MSN network.

  • Deselecting images in camera raw before opening the rest is deleting the files from finder!

Hi, as the title suggests, im having an issue with of our machines. There are 6 running camera raw and it is the only one to do this (version 6.6).
    Example situation:
10 RAW files are dragged into photoshop,
    they open in camera raw.
all are selected and a white balance taken from the 'grey card' image that has been shot specifically.
the grey card image is then deselected (with backspace button or otherwise) because i don't need it to be opened in photoshop for further editing with the rest.
    the problem:
after clicking 'open images' the deselected grey card image is dissapearing from my finder window. the delay in opening in photoshop means i can actually watch it go.
this doesnt happen on any other of my machines in the studio and that action should simply tell camera raw that i dont want to open that particular image in photoshop.
can anyone tell me why it is doing that??
we're working off our server (as we normally do), so the files arent being sent to the trash. if raws are worked on from the dekstop, the same thing happens and they obviously go straight to the trash then
why is camera raw deleting my files? are they recovereable? how do i stop it?
any help would be great. its a fast working studio and the grey card shots are not something we can afford to be losing.
    thanks,
    dom.

Sounds like you're working over a network.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Adobe 9.5 deletes log files - need to turn off creation of log files

We have a bunch of files from SAS outputs that include a .sas, .rtf, .log extensions.
When we try to convert a batch of the .rtf files to PDF by right clicking on them, the .log files are deleted. The originals are not Adobe .log files, but required files from the SAS output.
I have unchecked "Delete Log Files for Successful jobs" in both Distiller and the Adobe printer preferences.
It only deletes the .log with the same name as file types associated with Word. If I create .txt or xls files and .log files with the same name (i.e. test.txt and test.log) it does not delete the .log file, but it is overwritten by the Adobe log.
This happens whether the file is local or on a mapped network drive.
If I save to a different location, the .log is not deleted or overwritten, but that is really just a workaround. It's doable if it's the only option.
They can also copy only the .rtf files to another folder and copy the .pdf files back after, but this is alot of extra work for high volumes
This is an ongoing need involving lots of files, so moving or renaming is not an option, even with batch programs.
What I really need to do is stop Adobe from creating AND deleting log files or force it to create the .log files in a different location than the original. Unless the problem is Word, but I cannot find any information on this problem.
    Thanks
    Mike

You are right, it would make perfect sense, however as you can see from the below forum, I was not able to solve this compilation issue..
