No network connection in Linux 3.0 (P5Q Deluxe)

After upgrading to Linux 3.0 I can't get any kind of network connection. I am using the on-board network adaptor on Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard. There are two NICs using the skge and sky2 modules.
I have gone back to 2.6.39 until I can fix the problem.
In previous kernel versions these drivers could be a bit unreliable. Sometimes after boot they didn't work, but a reboot usually solved it. I tried rebooting many times but it didn't work on the 3.0 kernel.

OK, if I boot up and reconfigure the network adaptor on eth1, it works. When I reboot again configured on eth1 it doesn't work, but if I reconfigure it on eth0 it works again. Very strange.
The modules seem to always be loaded, that doesn't seem to be the problem.

  • Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

    Hello Oracle Experts,
This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    RaviShankar.

    Hi Rajesh,
Actually I will not be touching the Oracle instance SAN box directly. I will only access the database from another machine. I my case it is Linux box.
So, my question is how do you make the Oracle Client in Linux box to connect to Oracle instance running in another non ip based machine SAN storage.Install Oracle client on this Linux machine ..
Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.6 network connection issues

    Dear Guru ,
after install OEL 6.6 x86_64 I noticed that the network connection is disconnect after while and need to manually choose the network connection Ex.(system eth0)
how to troubleshooting this issues and how to resolve it
    Thanks

Oracle Linux 6 installs with all network connections disabled by default. If you're running a desktop environment, you can tell NetworkManager to start the interface automatically on boot. Right-click the network icon in the top right-hand corner and select "Edit connections". Then, highlight the interface you want to start on boot and click "Edit", finally click "Connect automatically". Note this can also be done by configuring the interface during installation.
If you are not running a desktop environment, you will have to edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX file and set ONBOOT=yes.

  • [SOLVED] Losing network connection after suspend

Lately I'm having this peculiar problem.  When resuming after suspend (specifically, pm-suspend), I have no network connection.  I first noticed this on March 31st.  The only thing that changed was that I upgraded these packages:
    openssl-1.0.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    xf86-video-ati-6.14.4-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    lib32-libdrm-2.4.33-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    libnotify-0.7.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    xz-5.0.3-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    vim-taglist-45-5-any.pkg.tar.xz
But I'm pretty sure I would have suspended and resumed successfully at least once after that upgrade.
Can anyone suggest what I should look at to try to diagnose this?
    Thanks

Same issue here. Looks like dhcpcd crashes during or after running /usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks on resume from suspend. I'll try downgrading until this is fixed.

  • Not able to connect Azure Linux Virtual Machine with Putty

    Hi,
I am not bale to connect Azure Linux Virtual Machine with Putty... Error shows "Network error: connection timed out".
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Techsol
    Thanks, Kk

    Hi TechSol01,
    Thanks for posting here.
I suggest you to try the below steps
On a computer running a Windows operating system, you might want to use an SSH client such as PuTTY. For more information, see the
    PuTTY Download Page.
On a computer running a Linux operating system, you might want to use an SSH client such as OpenSSH. For more information, see
    OpenSSH.
If it is the endpoint configuration, you can go to the portal and add port 22, (it should already be there by default).
Now if it is locked out of the VM because of the firewall on the VM, which is called iptables , You won't be able to connect to the VM,
If you haven’t configured the port 22. You may have to follow the below steps :
A = Original VM (Inaccessible VM)
B = New VM (New Temp VM)
    1)  Stop VM  A via the Azure management portal
    2) Delete VM A BUT select “keep the attached disks”
    3) Once the lease is cleared, attach the Data Disk from A to VM B via the Azure Portal, Virtual Machines, Select “B”, Attach Disk
    4) On VM “B” eventually the disk will attach and you can then mount it.
    5) Locate the drive name to mount, on VM “B” look in relevant log file note each linux is slightly different.
    grep SCSI /var/log/kern.log (ubuntu)
grep SCSI /var/log/messages (centos, suse, oracle)
    6) Mount the attached disk onto mountpoint /tempmount
    df -h
    mkdir /tempmount
    mount /dev/sdc1 /tempmount
    df –h
    7) Now you should be able to clear the rules set from the configuration file of the firewall, by accessing it
    through /tempmount
Let me know if this works

  • Kernel Upgrade Breaks Network Connection

    My server uses:
    [15:48] (tunix@kulupler ~)$ pacman -Qs kernel
    local/kernel26 2.6.19.1-1
        The Linux Kernel and modules
    local/kernel-headers 2.6.19.1-1
Kernel headers sanitized for use in userspace
for kernel. The latest kernel upgrade (2.6.19.2-1) breaks network connection after ~5 minutes from the boot. When the network connections fails, kernel says:
Jan 12 15:10:44 kulupler ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
The connection never comes either after a network service restart, nor ifconfig eth0 up/down etc... The only solution is to restart, but after ~5 min. it fails again.
So, as a solution, I just downgraded the kernel to 2.6.19.1-1 again.

The AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is putting your PowerBook on a separate subnet. To solve the problem, configure the AEBS so that it does not distribute IP addresses.

  • Why gnome-shell makes network connection by itself on startup?

I have a very *clean* gnome-shell desktop environment installed. Randomly I use 'ss -utp' to see that application other than my web browser is making network connection to the outside world, I found something.
After a reboot and logged in to Gnome-shell, there are several DNS lookups and connection is established to "proxy02.gnome.org" at 209.132.180.168 and than a connection is established to "ec2-54-246-211-38.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com" at 54.246.211.38. That site turns out to be "Mozilla Location Service". Yes I think I know what it is. It's seems to be the Gnome-shell's integrated location service.
If it's it, there is a big problem. I disabled it long long time ago just after it appeared on the head bar... So how can gnome shell decide to make a network connection after I explicitly told it not to? Though I believe it's really not about to do some bad things, but the reason why I switched to Linux for years is just to be able to get a more trustable OS on my stuff.
Sorry about the complaint. I chose to use it and they said "THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR THE PROGRAM" in the GPL. I just want to know Is there is a "MAGIC" setting or config file for me to "REALLY" disable it.
    Thanks!

  • Bad network connection

Are there some techniques to improve stability of the client-server Net8 communication if network connection is bad? Oracle 8.6.2 for Linux is used.
Are the data verified at the Net8 layer (some parity code?) after have been transmitted between client and server?

All of my songs were erased (i'm not really sure why it just happened while i was charging it. It said something about factory settings (?)) and it said to restore it to fix the problem. When i press restore it says the network connection has timed out. I'm sure everything is connected also. i have no idea what to do to fix it and i cant sync my songs back on till i do! my iPod is useless at the moment.
do you think that this problem similar to yours?

  • No network connection after install on a VirtualBox VM

Hey guys, I am a relative newb to Arch, and linux in general for that matter. I'm working on a project with pogo plugs and Arch seems to be the best linux solution for those at the moment so I figured it would do me some good to get it running on my desktop so I can become more familiar with it.
I'm attempting to install it on a VirtualBox vm following the beginners install guide. I get all the way through the install and reboot into my shiny new OS, but have run into the issue where I can't do any further package updates as I have lost my network connection. The beginners guide specifies a way to configure this so it it is persistent once the install is done.
I can issue the systemctl enable "dhcpcd@<interface>.service" command with my interface as eth0 (verified by ip link) "[email protected]", but once I reboot into the fresh install ip link tells me my interface is actually enp0s3. If I rerun the dhcp enable command again with enp0s3 as the interface it executes without error, but I still do not have network.
I tried using ifplugd during the install process during one of my go-arounds, but ifplugd was not able to install as none of the files appear to be available, perhaps that server is down?
Can anyone shed some light on what I might be doing wrong? I'm guessing it's something very simple that I am missing, hopefully someone here can catch it.

I was stuck at this problem, as in topic header. I looked at this post, thought that finally I found the solution(was referring to one more post). Then I tried following steps as mentioned in #3. OMG, I tried it for more than hour, couldn't get it working. Then i get one hint, i.e, the interface name is not enps03 but its enp0s3 ... Okay, again i tried, but still it did not work... this time i was little more cautious, so after few attempts, looked at my command, i had been typing [email protected], I don't know why such confusing naming conventions are followed, there are two files under /lib/systemd/system/ that are like dhcpd.* .. but this one particular file is dhcpcd@.*... well.. that's it. I just had to laugh at myself.

  • Install guest OS Solaris 10 no network connection

    Hi,
I tried to install Solaris 10 as guest OS on Oracle VM. During the installation of OS, it bypass the step prompt for network connectivity (yes/no) screen. (I tried many time install and re-install over and over again, but the network connectivity prompt screen never show up.)
I finished the installation anyway, the OS seem working fine. But the problem is I don't know where to enter the network info, and therefore, no network connection.
    So, please help.
    Thank you,
    Wei

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

On a whim I turned up the front fan on the server as I had seen a couple alerts about the disk temp hitting 40C, within a few minutes munin spewed a bunch of alerts, primarily OK alerts around disk latency which is a little strange. That said, I keep getting alerts about eth0 errors being unknown/a high number.
This morning I looked at munin and there are huge gaps in the charts, 1-2 hours which is really strange. Looking in the munin logs I see errors about connecting to the tcp port. Anyone know what's going on? I've got munin configured to use CGI for the graph generation.

Comcast technician said my Technicolor brand modem I rent from them is the problem. He said that most VPN problems show up due to that brand is not configured correctly for that application.  He did suggest that any other brand they offer seems to work ok.  Mine is a technicolor wih voice modem too.   I have to go to my local Comcast office and see what model modems they have available at the time since they cannot be disturbed by a local phone call.     I dont know if I may trade in my brand new Technicolor for another failing modem or just suffer the ever-failing connection.  The connection does always reconnect by slows my work sometimes creating too many distractions that lead to not remeining focused on the task at hand........especially when a client needs have to wait until reconnection.     I plan to call the Technicolor manufacturer first  to see if they have a fix first.  Cannot assume anyone at Comcast has done the research.

  • Satellite L300 PSLBGE network connection drops at random times

    Hey,
I've had this problem with my laptop since I bought it 1.5 years ago.
Now I run Windows 7 x64, with the latest bios (version 2.20-WIN; date 25/02/10), chipset and wireless (the card is a: Realtek Wireless LAN Adapter 8187B; driver version: 62.1182.0331.2010) drivers.
The problem is that my network connection drops at random times.
This happens both with my wireless and lan card and it happens with a variety of routers ( at work and at home I use a linksys wrt54gl but I have tried it on other routers with the same result).
I don't think this is a hardware fault since the network seems to work fine under Linux ( I've tried Ubuntu 10 ) . Also a while back I took it to the warranty service and they said the hardware is fine but I should "not use many programs at the same time and use Windowx XP".
From what I understand the various devices (wireless card, network card, webcam, etc) inside the laptop are connected to some sort of usb hub. My guess is that is something wrong with this 'hub' since the webcam is also working faulty.
    Thanks,

No, the WLan card and LAN card are not connected to any USB interfaces just the webcam so this cannot be any USB issue.
I think it could be an Windows issue since Linux is OK
I think you should check the power management settings in Win 7 and for Wlan /LAN card. This can be done in device manager -> WLan / LAN card properties -> Advanced tab.
I recommend also updating the Win 7 to the latest state install all updates and patches

  • Hyper V virtual machine randomly loses network connectivity

I have an extremely odd issue happening on one of my Hyper-V virtual machines.  For no apparent reason and completely sporadically my virtual machine will lose all network connectivity.  It is a linux Vyatta firewall image.  Digging through
the logs shows nothing at all when the machine actually goes offline, but when the machine starts back up I just get a Warning stating the network driver on my virtual machine loaded but has a different version from the server.  Server Version 3.2 Client
    version 0.2
I've ran the integrated services setup disk and nothing has fixed this.  When the VM loses connectivity it is for no apparent reason, sometimes at 1am sometimes at noon, just happens.  The only solution is to reboot the VM to bring it back online.
Has anyone else seen this or know of a fix for it?  Its starting to slowly drive me insane!
    Hyper V Server - Windows Server 2008 R2 - Hyper V Manager Version 6.1.7601.17514
VM - Linux Vyatta Core 6.3

I tried downloading new integrated services disk setup for linux, but Vyatta wouldn't work with it so I was kind of stuck there.  And not sure where you are talking about changing NIC to legacy at.  I did disable some TCP chimpney settings as
per an article I found, but not sure if it will fix it or not.  Sometimes the machine will stay on for a month before losing network connection and sometimes it comes in spurts and happens like 3-4 times over a couple days.  Its really odd
