No network - Mobileme - Sync data retention?

I have subscribed to MobileMe - It works beautifully with my OS,
One pertinent question
What happens to my Contacts & Calender data on IPhone3G when I am beyond a network's reach?
Does it just disappear? I hope not.
Banker

My iPad under 4.2.1 is working fine, but my iPhone 4 is messed up. After the upgrade, my MobileMe settings were just plain wrong (they were working prior to the upgrade). I had to delete and re-add MobileMe, and now my contacts are not updating on the iPhone. The Calendar was slow, but it did eventually update. I've tried rebooting the device, stopping and starting contact sync through MobileMe, with no luck so far.

  • Won't sync calender with mobileme "inconsistent data error message"

I have tried about everything that I can think of but can't seem to solve this problem.
I have a new Macbook Pro and have been using mobileme and ical for some time now. I can't get my Macbook Pro to sync with mobileme ical. It does sync with the address book, but when it gets to the ical portion it tries and then reports "can't sync due to inconsistent data on this computer. Correct data and resync calender".
I have no idea what the "inconsistent data" is. My computer gets its time from apple.com and the time/date is correct. What is the inconsistent data. My calender and schedule is a critical issue. Please help.

Errors in syncing can happen for all sorts of reasons - loss of network connectivity, for instance - and it might be necessary to reset the synced data from a reliable source. It's not talking about deleting anything - unless you have data on your new computer that you need to retain.
The document says that if you have this problem on your new machine, you probably need to overwrite that local data with data from MobileMe.
Personally, I've never lost any data with dotmac or MobileMe, so my experience is it can be relied on. I do, however, keep backups of all my data as well.

  • Any way to sync data other then MobileMe?

    Hi,
I have been using .Mac (now MobileMe) for awhile through 60 day trials but now they started requiring a credit card (I only have one credit card so I cant do it anymore). After this 60 days is up I can't sync my data anymore via MobileMe so I wanted to know if it's possible to sync data through another method. I want to sync my iCal calenders, Address Book contacts, Mail Accounts, Keychains, Safari Bookmarks and all the usual stuff that syncs with MobileMe. Is there a way to do it without MobileMe (like for example connecting the macs together with a USB or FireWire cable? Please don't tell me to go and buy MobileMe cause I do not want to pay $99 bucks a year to sync data. I don't use the extremely slow iDisk or any of the other services MobileMe offers, I only use syncing.

Google for ical sync and such, I've seen many services similar, but don't know anything concrete about them, as I have zero need for any of it.

  • Problems with mobileme syncing ...

Hi everyone. I'm having massive problems with mobileme sync with my iphone, my macbook and MacPC G5. Essentially I want the iphone contacts and calender data to overwrite anything on laptop and pc but I keep getting message that contacts couldn't be synced due to inconsistent data.  Despite me overriding it.  I'm not sure how I go about confirming that the computers data is valid and actually whether I want to because its the iphone data I want.  Then despite saying its synced calenders its not updating on my macbook or PC ... any suggestions gratefully received.  Its doing my head in!  Oh I'm on Leopard OS.

Hi Chris, Thanks for the advice, I haven't tried that yet. Will do so and pray that it will work. This however doesn't solve the problem of appointments I'm putting on my iphone not updating on PC and laptop - they do however update on mobile me cloud!  Any advice greatly appreciated!

  • How do I stop MobileMe Sync with Aperture 3?

    Hi All,
I just published my first gallery to MobileMe from AP3. It was quick and easy and I like that it's easy to share to friends. However, is there any way to leave the gallery up while disconnecting or preventing Aperture from syncing with it? I don't plan to make any changes to this gallery now, after the initial upload and I'm wondering if one can just upload and be done with it (letting the gallery live on the web) - and not have Aperture try to continually connect to the gallery for updating. Or, is there a way to just update manually?
    Thanks.

    Hey narfee,
I found an article that can goes over how to unregister your computer from syncing.
MobileMe Sync: About registering and unregistering computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1074
It depends on what type of computer you're using, but I pasted the relevant steps below:
    Unregister a computer from syncing
If you no longer want a computer to sync with MobileMe, you can unregister the computer from syncing. You can unregister any computer that is registered for syncing from any other computer with Mac OS X v10.4.11, v10.5.8,  v10.6.x, OS X Lion, Windows XP, or Windows Vista, as long as you know your member name and password.
Unregistering a computer from syncing does not delete any data.
To unregister a computer from syncing:
    Mac OS X v10.4.11
    Open System Preferences
    Click .Mac
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Mac OS X v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion
    Open System Preferences
    Click MobileMe
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
Note: In Mac OS X v10.5.8, if you unregister all computers you may be prompted to delete unwanted sync data. If you are no longer syncing with MobileMe, you can delete the unused sync data from the MobileMe servers.
    Windows XP or Vista
    Open Control Panel
    Click MobileMe Preferences
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Cheers,
    David

  • MobileMe sync problem

After upgrading to Leopard on a Macbook can't seem to enable MobileMe syncing.
I have entered my account info into System Preferences->MobileMe and can see my Account Status info, iDisk usage, etc.
But if I check the "Synchronize with MobileMe" button in System Preferences->MobileMe->Sync, the schedule pulldown and the checkboxes below of Bookmarks/Calendars/Contacts remain grayed out. And if I click anywhere else in the window after checking the "Synchronize with MobileMe" button, the button becomes unchecked.
    ?

    Hi,
You may need to click the Advanced button and Reset Sync Data but proceed with caution unless you are confident either MobileMe or your Mac contains the latest data to sync from or to. It's worth keeping a back up of your current contacts, bookmarks, calendars and such before attempting to reset sync.
Alternatively, consider opening a live chat with support, go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ click on Synching with Mobile Me > Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues > Chat Now.

  • Problems with MobileMe Sync -- ISyncDataDirectoryCorruptedException

I am seeing the following in the console:
4/2/09 7:31:55 AM Mail[788] ISyncDataDirectoryCorruptedException: detected corrupt database while executing delete from Record
    4/2/09 7:31:55 AM Mail[788] SyncServices[ISyncSessionDriver]: Caught top level exception: Session <ISyncConcreteSession: 0x182a75a0> cancelled. detected corrupt database while executing delete from Record Stack trace: (0x90e1110b 0x9635be3b 0x90e10eeb 0x90e10f2a 0x959b8dcd 0x959b5285 0x959c293b 0x959c28bb 0x959c1d4e 0x959ae2bf 0x95a47876 0x921817ed 0x92181394 0x91198095 0x91197f52)
The strange thing is that is seems to be coming from Mail and when I track it down in the MobileMe settings panel it is related to Bookmarks of all things.
I tried resetting the sync data for Bookmarks both ways but that did not help. Otherwise the console is pretty clean and I would like to track this one down to just polish it off.
    Any ideas?
    -John

I'm getting the exact same error in my console log for Mail, and my entire system locks up when it occurs.

Are we seeing some pattern developing here? Who wants to turn off iSync first ;^)

  • Push mobileme syncing in one direction only?

I have just inherited an iPhone 3G from a son who has upgraded to the new iPhone. I am having problems with the mobileme syncing. It only seems to push in one direction! Entries to iCal made on my MacBook and pushed to my iPhone but entries to iCal made on my iPhone are NOT pushed to my MacBook.
    any suggestions? thanks
    Ron Bailey

    Acros-Krik
I did my reset and it seems to have speeded up the 3G iPhone somewhat but not cured these syncing anomalies.
    I am syncing three way
    Mobileme
    MacBook iCal
    iPhone iCal.
I have sent test diary dates from each source
Mobileme and iCal are playing nicely but the iPhone is sulking and won't receive or send diary events.
In my iPhone my Systems Prefs are...
    Accounts: mobileme
    Fetch new data: Push
my email on my iPhone is working well with email Mobileme and email on the MacBook is also working well with Mobileme.

  • Missing calendars on one of my MobileMe Synced computers.

I'm using MobileMe Sync to sync calendar data between Work & home iMac, Laptop and iPhone. All of my calendars that I am syncing show up except on my laptop. 3 of 5 calendars show-up and are syncing. 2 are missing from the laptop.
I have reset the sync data, unregistered and registered the laptop, replaced data on the laptop with MobileMe, still the calendars do not show up.
I'm running 10.5.7 on all the computers. Any suggestions?

This has just started to happen to me as well.
On my iMac, Macbook Pro and iPod Touch I have just noticed that I have complete calendars missing. However when I check on the mobile me web account, the missing calendars are still showing there but I can not get them to resync.
A completely missing calendar is easy to spot, and not good at all. I'm also really worried that I have individual calendar entries missing as well which will be impossible to notice
Anyone any idea's what's going on or how to restore these calendars.

  • Lion address book MobileMe syncing

I upgraded to Lion. Opened the address book and everything looked fine. The contacts in my iPhone and iPad were screwed up. Half of them lacked any phone numbers. I checked my mobileme account and the same thing. I reset sync data and replaced mobileme with the contacts on my MB, it did not work. I synced my iPhone thru usb cable and it did not work. All the contacts show in both devices and mobileme without phone numbers. The contacts in my MB addressbook show with all the phone numbers. I searched for similar discussions but did not find any.

This sounds like a nasty Sync problem.
Anyhow, to me, it appears that they key problem is that your MacBook is not giving the data to MobileMe correctly.  MobileMe is then passing the incorrect data on to the iPhone and iPad.
I suggest that you follow the instructions in this article - there is a section specifically covering Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1627
(Note that the "Reset Sync Services..." command is far more powerful than "Reset Sync Data..." in MobileMe preferences).
    I hope this helps.

  • MobileMe sync suddenly failing

MobileMe synced between all of my devices (iPhone, Macbook Pro, iMac and iPad) perfectly fine until yesterday, when my iPad decided to give up.
First of all it was the Safari Bookmarks that no longer updated. I tried the tricks on here of disabling/deleting the account then enabling it again, no luck.
I completely removed my MobileMe account from my iPad and then entered my details in again. Now absolutely nothing would sync 'over the air'. Even after a lengthy wait.
I then tried a restore from backup. Again, no luck.
Finally I did a fresh restore of my iPad software. I managed to get Bookmarks and Calendar working okay, but now I have to sync Address Book manually.
It's all very strange and happened after things have been working fine for months. I'm up to date on all the software and haven't installed any new Apps over the last few days.
Probably not much anyone can do now, just checking in to see if anyone else had experienced something similar over the last few days?

The short answer is yes, people are having problems today with MobileMe. I was just told by an Apple support guy that the system has been problematic all day. But of course, they don't tell anybody that on the MobileMe website.
I just spent a torturous 10 hours+ trying to set up and enable MobileMe on my ipad and iphone. It was a total, unmitigated disaster despite valiant efforts by the tech (and several hours on the phone) to help me.
(Incidentally, there's no support phone number for MobileMe and even the other Apple techs can't call them. The MobileMe "chat line" wasn't even allowing me to "link" with it, whatever that means.)
Nothing we tried worked. At one point MM completely wiped all my contacts off my iPad. At the same time, it duplicated every single contact in my MM web account. So -- NO contacts on my iPad, DOUBLE contacts at me.com.
Later, it wiped out my iCal from my iPad. Completely gone; it was totally blank. I had to reload it from my Mac (after DELETING the mobileme account).
Now, I'm still getting horrible, horrible "ghost" effects even though I have mobileme turned completely off. I just re-synced my iPhone with iTunes and it duplicated every single calendar entry. Every. Single. One.
    I'm ready to kill myself.
Apple should be ashamed to be selling such a wonky product. And to not offer phone support -- shame on you, MobileMe -- whoever, and wherever, you are.

  • MobileMe sync of iCal on iPad doesn't work

I have iPad, 2 mac computers and the MobileMe cloud.  MobileMe sync of Address Book work across all platforms.  MobileMe sync of Calendar works except on the iPad.   Why?  I can't see any differences in settings on iPad.  Yes, both Calendar and Address Book are checked for syncing on the iPad.  Must be something dumb I've done but I can't see it.

    Question 1:
If got as far as 4. Tapping "Calendar" gives a Pull down list with the 1st four lines: 1) "Show Calendars" with black background, 2) "Hide All Calendars", 3) "MobileMe" with gray background, 4) "All MobileMe" , 5 thru 10) are the names of my calendars.   I have all calendars check marked. I see no "done" button.   Where is it?
Comment 1:  Playing around with the "Fetch New Data" Push and Fetch settings does not get  "synced" calendars.  But I do get "synced" Contacts.
    Question 2:
What is the state of the iPad after I do the "restore the iPad"?   Are all my settings now back on my iPad ?  If they are not how do I get them reset.  I hope you are not going to say that I have to reenter them all.   Maybe a "sync" from my computer will reset everything?
Question 3:  Why can't I delete the iCal app and download a new one?  And if so how do I do it?
Comment 2:  This was one of the first iPads, bought the 1st week Apple was selling them.
    Thank you for your help.

  • MobileMe syncing deleted information

I have an iMac, a MacBook, and an iPhone 3G, all sharing a MobileMe account, which I THOUGHT was the greatest thing since sliced bread until I noticed that my contacts all have duplicated information or OLD information which is no longer valid. For example, one of my friends recently moved. While I was having a conversation with him, I opened my contacts and plugged in his new address and phone numbers, making sure to delete the old ones. That was week ago. I just went to call him and discovered that he now has 2 different home numbers (old and new), 2 cell phone numbers (old and new), and 2 different addresses. I can't remember which numbers are the new ones, and I find this quite annoying since I've also learned that this happened with OTHER contacts. It seems I've been sending text messages to old numbers because they're the ones that come up first (which would explain why people are not getting back to me). So, basically, MobileMe is not syncing deleted items, which defeats the purpose of syncing altogether. I'm more likely to edit info on the phone; I never use my address book on my computers unless it's for special occasions. Am I missing something here, or I should I just get rid of the account?

Same problem here - the MobileMe sync never completes. I've checked syncing from my iPhone back to the Me.com web site, and that is fine. So the problem seems to be between my newly-upgraded 10.6 Mac and the MobileMe "cloud."
Best I can tell, the hangup is with calendar sync. Here's what the Console log tells me:
8/29/09 9:20:30 AM com.apple.syncservices.SyncServer[2162] 2009-08-29 09:20:30.085 iCalExternalSync[2183:903] [ICalExternalSync ]The sync server failed to let client iCal pull changes
    And the mobilemesync.log says this:
2009-08-29 09:25:20:858|35a2b00|Error|Sync cancelled for dataclass com.apple.Calendars while merging changes in Sync Engine: Session <ISyncConcreteSession: 0x10274b8f0> cancelled. lost connection to SyncServer
Could it just be traffic? That seems unlikely.
I've already tried to "Reset Sync Data" under "Advanced" in the MobileMe Sync preferences - I told the sync to replace everything on my computer with info from MobileMe. That didn't fix the problem.
My last successful sync was right before my upgrade from 10.5.8!
    Ideas?

  • Voice Memos older than last Sync date not copying from iPhone to PC after sync, even though "Include voice memos" is checked

I am trying to copy over my voice memos from my iPhone to my PC. I have "Include voice memos" checked under the Music tab.
I had an issue with voice memos being duplicated on my iPhone after a sync (I got two versions of each memo on my phone for some reason), so after deleting the extra copies on my phone I deleted all voice memos from within iTunes and chose the option to move the files to the Recycle Bin. So the Music\iTunes\Itunes Music\Voice Memos folder is empty, and there are no voice memos showing up in iTunes.
But now when I sync, it isn't copying over the older memos that are on my iPhone to my computer. If I record a new voice memo then that memo transfers successfully, but any voice memos with a recording date older than my last sync date do not transfer.
How can I get these older voice memos (with dates older than my last sync date) transferred over from my phone onto my PC?

Does anyone know of a way that I can access the voice memos with dates older than my last sync date...?

  • Location of iPhone sync data files or How to not have to re-install all my iPhone apps?

    Hi Folks,
I recently did a clean install of Lion on my MacBook Pro and I've chosen to not use Migration Assistant because I don't want to move over a bunch of cruft under my 4+ year old home directory (Tiger > Leopard > SL).  I've been very selective about the things I've moved over and all has gone well until I want to sync my iPhone.  I've transferred purchases from the iPhone but if I check Sync Apps, iTunes wants to wipe and re-install everything!  This wouldn't be a problem, except the time it would take to re-organize all my apps on the iPhone again.   (Side note: Please Apple, give us an "auto-organize" button for apps!)
Any idea how to move over my old sync data files to avoid having to nuke/reinstall my iPhone's apps?  Or is there another option to preserve how my apps are organizated?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Rob

Setting it up as new will not put anything over, then when you sync it will sync the applications over and it will sync the applications over Un organized.  My advised should resolve the issue, I work for technical support for the iPhone's, iPad, and iPod Touchs for Apple...
Right Click the iPhone and click Transfer Purchases and then do the backup and restore from backup... That will transfer all your applications over to your computer and then organize them properly in their folders...
OK, that does make sense so I won't bother setting it up as a new phone.
Quick follow up question though, do I need to click the Sync Apps check box before I do a restore?  The reason I ask is that I've done a transfer purchases/backup/restore cycle but all the tabs (Apps, Music, Movies, etc.) do not have the sync check box checked following the restore as I would expect.  And when I go check the Sync Apps check box that's when it warns me "Are you sure you want to sync apps?  All existing apps and their data on the iPhone will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."  That's when the apps then become unorganized.
Thanks so much for your continued help!
