No new OS updates for Mac Pro 2.1.

I'm wanting to use FCPX on my MacPro 2.1 3Ghz and the last update I've been able to get was 10.5.x and I think i need 10.6.x (sorry I'm not in front of my Mac right now)
Any work arounds on this?

You have reached the end of your ability to update 10.5 for free, and will have to buy a new DVD for 10.6 to upgrade to the 10.6 Snow Leopard level. Luckily, it is not very expensive (US$20, free shipping).

I would like to create a new and bigger boot drive but having not done this before I would appreciate any direction that would make this as painless as possible. I will continue to use Lion but am a little lost when it comes to doing this with the download process of Lion as well as transferring what has been created on the current HD in the MacPro. I have a new WD Black 2 TB SATA that I would like to use as the new boot drive. Again, thank you for the help.

Get yourself a $89 Samsung 840 120GB instead along with Icy Dock $15. You will. Love it.
You don't need a large drive for the system. All you need to do is MOVE all the data and media files and every thing else, just leave the small 4GB /Users/myuseraccount/Library on the boot drive with the OS and apps. Everything else gets off loaded.
Leave your drive you ahve now as is for backup. Move data and clone the system.

WebGL enabling/updates for Mac pro?

In using Seene (3D photography app), i had the below notification:
Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the latest drivers for your video card.
I am currently using a Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.2) with intel graphics 4000 and Geforce GT 650M. Technically it should be able to run webGL, but somehow its disabled? Where can I find the settings to enable this? Going on the nvidia website I couldnt find a corresponding update for the Mac version of my graphics card.... Thank you for taking time to help!

the instructions in my last reply apply only to Safari. I don’t use Chrome myself, but my understanding is that version 18 and above of Chrome should fully support WebGL, and that it should come with WebGL enabled. When you point Chrome to chrome://flags, does it say that WebGL is enabled, or that it’s disabled? When you point it to chrome://gpu, does it detect any problems with your GPU?

Is it possible to special order a new graphics cards for Mac Pro?

I'd like to get either the ATI Radeon HD 4870, 5770, or 5870 for my Mac Pro. I am trying to download the new adobe update for Mac OSX 10.9.5,without success.

I will begin the download and it gets hung up on 25% and eventually the installer will just close itself. I have checked all of the recommendations, i.e. the browser preferences and deleting the filing and starting over. Help?

First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.

Adobe stopped all support for 3D file conversion with the introduction of the Acrobat X Family back in 2010. There have been and will be no further updates to the 3D import functionality. The translation engine that used to be in Pro Extended is now sold as a commercial product by Tetra4D, but it's not compatible with Acrobat 9.

You must be using an update CD. You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

thanks for the prompt response...i appreciate it. according to the link you listed, that's correct. the strange thing is that prior to the upgrad to mac os 10.8.4, photoshop CS5 was working just fine and i was able to open my canon raw files with my current camera raw plug-in version 6.7 which adobe has indicated is the last camera raw update they'll be offering for cs 5
so it's clearly an issue related to the "upgrade" of the os. seems like every solution creates 6 new problems...further evidence for the notion that if it ain't broke don't fix it! thanks again.

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke. Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that. Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. I'm not sure what "Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6" is. Mac OS X 10.5.6 is Leopard, a system that is quite old at this point. There have not been any Mail updates for Leopard in quite some time. If you are trying to install some old Mail update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 in Mavericks, that won't work.
If you are trying to install the Mavericks Mail update manually, that's not necessary if you have updated through the App Store. If the App Store shows no updates, you don't need this. (The error message doesn't make sense, and may indicate some other problem with your system, assuming that you were downloading this update from Apple's site.)
I'd advise you to start a new topic in the Mavericks forum and describe the problems you are having with Mail. Be sure to include specifics, but try to avoid speculating on causes, as responses that may be related to an inaccurate assumption on your part can cloud the issue.

Why is it only for mac pro? its PCI express & my g5 is one of the late 2005 models and it has PCI Express so am i wrong in thinking that this should work fine or is it something to do with the new intel architecture?

That card is only for the Mac Pro, as it says.
When you ordered your G5, you had the choice of the nVidia 6600 (or 6600LE), nVidia 7800GT, or the Quadro FX 4500.
The 7800GT that you could have ordered with your G5 is close in performance to the ATi X1900XT that is an option on the Mac Pro. The 7300GT that you're looking at is an entry level card, which the 7800GT definitely is not.
The 7300GT and the X1900XT are both Mac Pro only due to the ROM on the card, which is designed to work with the EFI booting hardware that the Mac Pro uses. The G5s used Open Firmware, which requires a different ROM on the video card. So, even though both your G5 and the Mac Pro are PCI-Express based, these video cards are not compatible.
Now, most PCI-Express cards that you look at for, say, external SATA, will probably work in both the G5 and the Mac Pro. You'd still want to check the specs to be sure, however.
If you're looking for a new video card to replace your (presumably) nVidia 6600, your only real option is the ATi X1900 G5 edition. This is a different card than the X1900XT that's offered for the Mac Pro.
