No new windows opening / Unable to switch windows

If I use any of the commands that SHOULD open a new window (New / Download / History / etc.)... the windows don't open.
If I look in the Window menu, I *see* the list of the windows, but selecting any of them has no effect.

so i have been having the exact problem on my Z1. the alrm goes off at the right time....the notification works perfectly but you just cannot switch it off or snooze it. if i go to the drop down menu the active alarm is not listed there...the side buttons dont work or have no effect even when configured.
you literally have to power the phone off for it to stop sounding. this is really annoying and i notice that teh last comment here was a month ago and Sony have still not addressed this problem. if you google this issue there a stacks of people with the same problem and more frustarted as we keep getting suggested fixes like clear clock cache which EVERYONE knows will not work as the problem is not with the data of the alarm....its a bug in the software that prevents the app from excuting teh way it was intended to.
my alarms worked perfectly fine before teh update was applied. ever since teh update i ahev had this problem. i dont believe that a solution is to install another alarm app from google play store. i bought the phone which advertises the alarm as a feature and if sony cannot fix or address this probelm then you have falsely advertised...
i am a sold out sony fan...i will never purchase any other brand of phone based on my past experience with sony products but this problem is making me think otherwise. give us a proper fix for this alarm issue and dont treat us like ignorant fools with your suggessted fixes like start in safe mode or reboot your phone....that will never ever fix the problem....its just a way of avoiding the fact that you dont know what to do to fix this problem...

I want to open a new window (shift + Mouse Click) while not switching to the newly opened window. The focus should remain on the window from where i have opened the link.

You can do that with tabs, but not with windows AFAIK.

Firefox 7 won't allow me to switch windows; if it's up, it's on top, so if I ask it to open a site in a new window (instead of a tab) I can't get to the window without minimizing the first window. This makes it impossible to work.

Since switching to Firefox this week, when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail in Outlook, I get this message, "General failure. An error occurred in sending the command to the application." It doesn't open a new window or do anything.

I closed a Firefox process. Then clicked the FF icon to restart my browser. I received an error message. " Firefox is already running, but not responding. When opening a new window, it automatically loads last pop-up (?) content and I am unable to type in address bar or open a new tab in the new window.

I don't know if they're technically pop-up windows (for example, if you do a search on kayak.com, it will automatically open a new priceline.com window with the results of the search), but this happens with pop-up blocker on or off. Other examples are a small info window from a financial or .edu site that opens up saying a session is about to expire, or answering an FAQ (with the exception of the priceline example, these windows don't have an address bar or display a URL). Anyway, after these windows are closed, if I try to open a new window, it will automatically load the content of that "pop-up". Whenever it does this, I am unable to type in the address bar or open a new tab in that window.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.

Unable to upload files using firefox, be it dropbox, gmail or any other websites where we need to attach files. It does not open up a new window to choose file.

all of a sudden im unable to attach files in any of the websites. Im using firefox version 30 and when I click to attach file it does not open up a new window where we can choose the file from my computer. It happens almost in all websites that I use (gmail, dropbox, other websites).

please check if this problem appears as well when you try to download a file, does this happen again when you try to download a file?
if so there must be a problem with your HDD controler, to solve this issue follow th steps:
1.Right Click on My Computer, Select Properties
2.Click on Device Manager in Top Left corner
3.expand the IDA/ATI/ATAPI controllers
4.right click on the one which is related to your HDD
5.click on Uninstall
6.Restart
when you restart your windows the OS will try to install the drivers again, if this happens then restart again and check if the problem is solved, if no try to install the HDD drivers and related drivers manually and then restart your machine

When right clicking to open link in new window (not tab) foxfire immediately switches windows rather than opening new window in background

Just updated to foxfire 15.0, and now each time I open a link in a new window foxfire will switch immediately to that newly opened window rather than opening the new window in the background as it did before I updated to 15.0. I am aware of the option to check or uncheck switching to new tabs immediately, but I am speaking of opening a link in a new window, not tab. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sara, I started having the same problem yesterday. In my case I was able to remedy it by disabling FasterFox 3.9.81. If you don't have that installed, I would recommend turning off your extensions (one by one), restarting firefox, and testing until you find the offender. Hope that helps!

In the previous Firefox versions we are able to open a new window & open link in a new window. The feature is there when you "right click" on the tab or click on the "open a new window" but it simply not functioning

Link context method works for me, there have been many complaints that the first two items were switched, and that can be easily modified with the "'''Menu Editor'''" extension.
If it does not work for you an extension might be involved.
There is also the mouse shortcut '''Shift+click''' on the link. Called mouse shortcut because it involves the mouse.

Hover over that spot until the cursor turns into the "bar arrow" and drag it upward. You messages should appear below like the second screenshot. If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

GNOME in failsafe and unable to open new windows

Since yesterday, I have many crash in GNOME Shell. The display goes in a kind of failsafe mode (very simple graphics and effects) after some time and I am quickly enable to open new windows after the start of gdm.
I'd have posted a screenshot but I'm not able to do it.
When I try to open a new window in a terminal it fails, seems like an error with the display

I have the Xorg or opened windows process which take way too much CPU than the usual. For example Firefox easily blocks during a few minutes and I have errors related to a script in an extension which does not run.

I have not made any configuration change lately except the usual updates. I have to restart GDM each time it happens.
Any idea what is causing that ?

Enter file - new private window, FF opens new window, then immediately switches back to window that request was made from

Hit file - new private window, FF opens new window (not private) for about 5 seconds, then immediately switches back to window that requested the new private window. This happens on three different machines at my location, all with Win 7.

This happens in safe mode?
