No numbers appearing near feeds in bookmarks bar

All of a sudden, after re-installing safari because of horrible sluggishness, the numbers near my rss feeds folder (whihc is THE feature because of which I did not pass to Firefox!) stopped appearing.
The articles are updated in the feeds, though...
Can anyone help and suggest how to re-establish the appearance of the numbers?
Thanks

I found the solution.
I erased the pubsub folder and all works like a charm

  • In Firefox 4, why are the website icons not appearing in the tabs and next to the URL in the address bar? They appear fine in the bookmarks menu.

The little favicons that represent the website show up as the blank page icon in the toolbar and in the address bar, but they appear fine in the bookmarks bar. I have tried clearing my cache, and that did not help.

  • Bookmarks Bar Menu Numbers--What Gives?

Safari 3.0.4: Numbers appear next to some of my bookmarks that I've created on the Bookmarks Bar, in parentheses, for instance "News (232)". The numbers take up space, so I try to delete them, but can't. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks

The RSS feature in Safari is really useful and I prefer the way it works to (say) Firefox. If you are an information hound like me, the RSS feeds on all manner of subjects can keep you updated all day without the need to access scores of pages: just click on the titles that look interesting. You will know there is a feed available if you see (using Safari) a blue RSS icon on the right side of the address bar of a site you visit. Click on that and the feed will be displayed.

  • Bookmark Bar - Strange numbers Next to Titles

For some reason in my bookmark bar there are numbers in parenthesis next to the titles. For example I see "News (260)" where before it was just "News". They seem to come and go. I have gone in and tried to rename. But after I do the number is still there in parens next to the title. Not a major annoyance but I'd like to rid of them. Any thoughts? Suggestions on how to get rid of it.

    Hi,
The number by the side is an indication of how many unread RSS news articles you have in that folder.
Do you have any RSS feeds present in the News folder? They will have an icon that looks like a newspaper.

  • Bookmark bar RSS feeds randomly display only a drop shadow, no menu

Ok, I have an odd issue that just started occurring after an OS reload. When viewing my RSS feed pull-downs from the bookmark bar, they'll often-times open up 100% transparent, the only thing visible being the drop-shadow that surrounds it. The menu still works; I can still click things and it will bring up the page, but since I can't see what it is, I have no clue what I'm clicking. I can get it to be visible again by closing and re-opening the pull-down (sometimes takes a couple tries).
Nothing has changed with my browser profile since I last reloaded windows. I reloaded Windows (7 64-bit) once because my secondary HDD controller crashed on me and I reloaded windows thinking there was a faulty driver stuck in the OS (that and to get rid of the extra junk from the past several years), but later found the motherboard was going bad, so I replaced it and reloaded again (primary is 2x SSD Raid 0). I'm now running that second reload and loaded my profile the same way as before and I'm getting the issue.
To save and load the profile I did the following: FireFox menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder (Profile folder) then closed FF and copied the entire contents of the folder to a backup directory. Reloading the profile was the same process but copying the files back to the profile folder after closing FF. I did this on the first reload as well and had no issues, but for some reason I'm running into it now. Seems to occur more during heavy file transfer loads (such as copying from USB HDD to SSD raid). Not actually sure if that's related or not though.
Anyway, any ideas why this might be occurring?

  • Unread RSS feeds incorrect in Bookmarks bar

Since moving to 10.5 the RSS feed counts in the bookmarks bar is often incorrect. I can read each feed in the pulldown menu and all the numbers for unread feeds are gone in the pulldown, yet, in the bookmarks bar it will say 1, 2, or 3 still to be read.
To clear that number, I select View All RSS Articles, and the number sets to blank. Also, clicking on a feed that I have read and cleared will often clear the unread number to show nothing.
This does not happen every time, but usually at least once a day.

Update to the unread RSS count:
I have discovered that different RSS feeds sometimes do not show that that there are unread feeds. When I go to reading all RSS feed options, I have looked and find what are the unreads. It is always a feed that had not shown it had unread entries when I opened Safari. It seems to usually occur in the first 4 of the 19 feeds in the menu bar. I can go several days with no problems, then other days it happens almost every time I look.

  • How do I replace bookmark bar that was lost when a new Mozilla Fox Start page suddenly appeared with a Zone Alarm Community Toolbar, and nothing I have so far tried, working with "Show all Bookmarks", works ("Unable to process the backup file).

My current version is 6.0.2. A box appeared a few days ago informing me of an update to 7 (x?). I declined for the time being.
Then a Start Page just showed up missing the bookmark tool bar. I tried to import a bar from another browser. Nothing showed up. Then, I went to "Help". First, I clicked on "About Firefox" where I was informed of an update. This time, I tried it. When I clicked on "Apply Update", I received a message; 'Update could not be installed" despite there being no other Firefox browsers running.
I went back to "Help" and clicked on "Firefox Help". A page came up with the URL in place, but the page would not load ("Cannot find server at support.mozilla.com"). After several clicks on "Try Again" with the same result, I copied the URL and pasted it into a different browser, from which I am now working.
Before sending this question, I tried the two procedures ("Manual Backup" and "Restoring From Backup") found on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Import And Backup/Restore, using both "stored backups" from Mozilla's Profile folder and "Choose a file", as well as Bookmarks/Show ... /Backup. In each case, the response was, "Unable to process the backup file".
I had previously tried another method I found on Google which involved copying and saving a Mozilla backup file (this is the file I used in the procedure above - "Choose a File") found in the C:/Documents And Settings/.../Profile Folder, then renaming the original file "backup.HTML" and saving it in a folder one level up from its original location. The Bookmark bar was to show up after shutting down and reopening Mozilla - it never happened. I replaced the original backup file.
It occurred to me to locate the Bookmark File for this browser (Chrome) and using it in the "Choose a File" method, referred to above. But there is no extension included in the file name, and I was afraid to try it.
I'm out of ideas. Is there something else to try?

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • Why do random addresses appear in the bookmark bar above my tabs?

Ever since I got my iPad, safari has added weird sites to the bookmark bar above the address tabs(appears below the address bar when you activate it).  Sites like texans children's hospital, or red palm oil.  Why is it doing this, and how do I regulate it?  Using the newest iPad and most recent update of safari.

  • Is possible to make the bookmarks bar only appear on the homepage?

I was just wondering if it was possible, with or without an add-on, if i could make it so that the bookmarks bar only appears on the homepage.

I have the bar under the adress bar for bookmarks. But i use lots of bookmaks. When i nedd to access them i press the icon you told, and the side bookmaks bar is shown, and is this bookmaks left side bar that i wish to be permanently there.
What happens is that i open it, choose the bookmark to be open and then it disappears...
On Safari, differently from Firefox, when i press the icon it shows a complete page instead of the side bookmaks bar only.

  • Bookmarks Bar Can't Do RSS Feed Maths!

    Hi,
In my Bookmarks Bar I have a folder called RSS Feeds. Within that I have 6 sub-folders. Each folder contains bookmarks to RSS feeds. The problem I'm having is that Safari isn't particuarly accurate at adding up my unread RSS feed items count. For example, right now it says (2) on the Bookmarks Bar, and it says (2) next to one of the sub-folders, which is good. But then, inside that sub-folder, there is no (2) or (1)s next to any of the feeds I've subscribed to.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just a fact that you shouldn't use nested folders for RSS feeds?

A good solution to this problem is actually to use NetNewsWire instead of Safari's RSS reader.
NetNewsWire is an excellent free Mac OS X RSS reader. I'm really satisfied with it. Now I get an accurate unread count in the Dock (I know Mail can do that). But the best part is that it auto syncs my RSS feeds with NewsGator online, meaning that if I read RSS feeds on my iPod Touch, my iMac knows about, and vice-versa.

  • My tab strip is appearing as part of my bookmarks bar, why?

I prefer to have the navigation bar on top, the bookmark sbar below that and the tab strip below that.
The tab strip has now appeared to the right of the bookmarks bar and the more tabs that I open the number of bookmarks shown shrinks from the right to accommodate the extra tabs being opened.
Moving the tabs above the navigation bar takes the bookmarks with it like a pair of Siamese twins.
How do I get them to appear separately?

The restore default set worked! Than you very much.

  • RSS Bookmarks in bookmarks bar not updating.

Just recently I've noticed that my RSS feeds are not updating. Usually when there is a new article, a number appears next to the bookmark but that is not happening here. If I click on the bookmark, it shows all the new articles but there are no numbers beside the bookmarks to let me know that the RSS feeds are updated. I've checked out a couple other threads on this topic and one suggested deleting the com.apple.syndication.plist preference file which I tried to no avail. Has anyone else found a solution to this?

    Jonas,
Check out http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2711205#2740511. I've been working through the issue there.
Since OS X 10.4.4, RSS feed counts have synchronized via .Mac sync. Something about that seems to have broken in the last month or so. I'm sorry to hear you're discovered the problem too--that means it hasn't been fixed yet.
I have found a fairly non-intrusive workaround, documented at the message linked above.

  • What is the "Bookmarks Bar" and how do I use it?

I've been all over my iPad user guide and can find zero information about the "bookmarks bar" except how to make it appear and disappear.  I am now able to make a blank area near the top of the Safari screen appear and disappear - GREAT!!!!  Information as to what this area may contain, how to place and remove items from it, etc is NOWHERE!  If there is anyone out there that uses this feature, please explain what it is and if you find it useful.
In windows internet explorer, there is a "favorites bar" near the top of the screen where I can place the icons for my most used favorites.  Instead of opening a favorites menu and scrolling through it to find what I want, I just click the icon that is always present at the top of the internet explorer page - really useful.  I imagine that "bookmarks bar" is a similar feature in Safari but it's completely ignored in the iPad user guide.
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Thanks Skydiver,
This was easy and does exactly what I thought it would do!  What threw me off was the menu that pops up when you go to save a page as a bookmark.  The menu lists 6 choices:  Add bookmark; Add to reading list; Add to home screen; mail link to this page; Tweet; and Print.  Notice there is no choice to "add to bookmarks bar".   You have to select "add bookmark" and then within the next process box you have the option to specify an alternative to bookmark.  When you look for the alternatives, "bookmarks bar" shows up.  Not exactly obvious, is it?
It's almost like they don't don't want you to use it.  This is absolutely OBTUSE!
    Thanks again, Skydivier!

  • How do you add a web site to a folder in the iMac Bookmarks Bar?

Safari 6.0.5 does not have a "+" left of the URL. According to the Apple Safari video, that is how you add a web site to a folder in the Bookmarks bar.

Drag the website "icon" from the URL bar into the folder in the Bookmarks Bar.
When you start draging, a green + will appear.
    Best.

  • In Firefox4, can I lose the folder icons from the Bookmarks Bar while keeping icons everywhere else (because the folder icons are superfluous and extend the horizontal list of bookmark folders beyond the width of the window)?

I've just installed Firefox4 for Mac (OS 10.6.7) and can no longer see all my bookmark folders at once across the top -- because the folder icons make the Bookmarks Bar too wide. Yet, I like the icons on the other bars, so I don't want to turn them off globally. Is there a way to just lose the folder icons -- which don't appear to serve a purpose anyway?

Small correction to original post. Machine is an iMac 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I was at home when I made the first post.) But the bookmarks menu behavior still exists today and FF 5 is essentially unusable.
System details next to the post are not for machine with the bug in question.
Found a copy of FF4 to use until a solution is found. Turned off automatic updates to preserve this version.
