No. of Solution Managers

Hi Folks,
sorry for the maybe stupid question. But my team is SCM focussed and new to Solution manager.
How many solution managers per SCM are needed? And how does the number scale with number of materials ordered? Is it possible  to work with five solution managers for one SCM responisble for purchasing about 5000 (5k) articles?
THX
And please: only qualified answers! No read this or that Thread/Blog/Note answers. I already READ THEM ALL! And the notes are due to my team!

1. How many solution managers per SCM are needed?
You can connect SCM to one solution manager, y do you require many Solution Manager servers!!!!
2.number of materials ordered?
How is it related with Solution Manager???? Solution Manager is not a tool for Logistics, Did you understand the usage of solution manager
3. purchasing about 5000 (5k) articles?
How do you relate this with Solution Manager.

    Hi,
For how long the installation process has been running. Check the following.
    1. The virtual memory page size that you have assigned.
    2. The hard disk free space.
    3. The Virtual memory should be optimized size, should not be larger than the free space available.
    These are performance optimization settings.
I guess the installation would take around ten hours, I am not sure.
But one thing is sure <b>SAP</b> is not that bad to get aborted abruptly.
Keep Patience while installing. Before that take care that your system satisfies, requirements.
Hope I was clear. Feel free to get back, incase you face any problem.

  • Possible to run 2 Solution Managers

We have Solman 3.2 and want to move to 4.0.  Is it possible to have 2 solution managers in one landscape at a time?
The existing 3.2 system is not in good shape and not much works, so I am not keen to upgrade it.  Installing a new system and configuring it will hopefully be faster than fixing everything that's wrong with 3.2 (essentially reconfiguring it from scratch), upgrading Oracle & checking the configuration again.
I'm thinking of installing Solman 4.0, setting it up, then turning off Solman 3.2 when it's ready.  The documentation for 3.2 is quite limited and poor.
The environment is currently Solaris with Oracle 9 for Solman.  The systems in the landscape are R/3 (ECC6), BW 3.5,  CRM (ECC6) & portal.  I have limited experience at upgrading systems.
Suggestiong regarding this situation greatfully accepted.
    Cheers!

    Hello Philip,
a complete answer to your question is only possible if you tell me about the scenarios you are using. For the beginning I assume that you are using primarily the SolMan for Operations part, where you have to get data from satellite systems into the SolMan for EWAs.
In your current landscape the satellite systems are delivering data into the SolMan. If you set up this process using transaction SDCCN, the satellite systems can deliver their data into several SolMans. If you are using still SDCC I am not sure if this is possible. Anyway I suggest to use SDCCN, because this "new" transaction has much more and nice features.
A lot of the other scenarios (e.g. implementation) use the SolMan as base of their functionalities so that the SolMan has to connect to the satellite systems. In these cases your plan has no impact at your running landscape and is ok. But other ones (e.g. Service Desk or using the SolMan as Central Monitoring system) need additional configuration at the satellite systems. And there it depends from the scenario if you can use two SolMans in your landscape or only one.
    Hope it helps, Alexander.
PS: I wouldn't also describe the documentation of SolMan 4.0 as "ufficient" 8-).

  • Solution Managers System monitoring and CCMS/CEN

    Hi.
Could anybody enlighten me on the Role of  CCMS / CEN in the Solution manager Monitoring.
I have set up solution manager to Monitor my landscape. I have set up user defined limits and email alerts. These Alerts and the alerting agent - I assume - are carried out on the system being monitored.
Now the question - I want the Solution manager box to be the CEN and do the Alerting centrally (from the SM box)  -  Will the MTE's and Alerts that I have assigned and configured through System Monitoring use the properties set up though the CCMS?
I assume I will have to install the CCMS agents on all the target boxes - Will the Solution manager box process the Statics and send out the alerts from itself? If so How much workload does this place on the network and the box?
Why does the solution manager not act as the central processing and alerting box from the start? If we go through the effort of setting up the monitoring - why does it not set up Collection and Alerting at the same time?
    Any feedback will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Terry H.

    Hi Terry,
Solution Manager System Monitoring is using CCMS infrastructure, so we have two different ways to collect data (alerts) from the satellite systems, first via CCMS agents as you mentioned or the option to use RFC destinations to read the alerts. This can be configured automatically by SMSY in Solution Manager. The second option produces higher network workload, because every alert will be checked every 3 minutes, with agents only new alert values will be pushed.
I hope this info helps you

  • Multiple Solution Managers to one HPQC

    Hi
I need to know if it is possiable to connect multiple SAP Solution Manager systems to one HPQC system? If so how do I go about doing this?
    Thanks
    Santosh

Each tie up is based on the logical ports at the Solution Manager end and the relationship between the two entities is between Projects. So if you set up the configuration like you would in a normal scenario and at the right moment, connect the projects in SolMans to the corresponding projects in HPQC, you should be fine.

  • Questions in Solution manager

    Hello friends,
Can any one answer these questions
SAP Solution Manager Overview Key points
    -       Scope of Solution Managers capabilities
    -       Work required to implement and configure Solution Manager – i.e. how much is out of box vs. customer/implementation specific?
    -       How it can be customized
    -       Reports / metrics that solution manager offers
    Thanks

    Hello,
what is Solution Manager? A platform that provides integrated content, tools and methodologies for implementing, supporting, monitoring, upgrading and operating your enterprise SAP solutions.
My recommendation would be, if you have a chance to attend any of the SAP Solution Manager Seminars www.sapsolutionmanagerseminar.com/ would be the best to do. I am just back from the Amsterdam session. I have mainly worked in SAP Solution Manager projects, but still learned a few things even in areas I have been involved in.
Can you use SAP Solution Manager out of the box without any customizing? No. You need to execute basic customizing and maintain your landsape at the minimum.
For example you have to maintain your landscape. Generate RFC connections, setup up monitoring if required. Configure EWA reports if needed. Service Desk and Change Request Management would be large configurations. There are some reports you can use.
How can it be customized? Check out in transaction SPRO to get some idea, but not everything is in there covered you still need to configure.
There is a SAP Solution Manager book published since this year.

    Markus

  • Is it possible to connect a DEV System to more than one SAP Solution Manage

    Hello,
My system DEV is already connected to a first SAP Solution Manager, I would also like to reconnect the same system so that it communicates and will be monitored by a second SolMan.
Is it possible to do so and the do the operation involve any risks ?
    Thanks for your help
    Regards
    Ben

    Hello,
This is possible in many scenarios. Often this is done to distribute load, for example on Solution Manager will do the Service Desk Function, one may do ChaRM, one may be doing Monitoring & Reporting, one may be doing Diagnostics.
In these cases a managed ssytem can be connected to many Solution Manager systems.
However as Mateus has pointed out, you cannot connect one managed to two Solution Managers and do SMD on both Solution
Manager systems, but you can have more than one Solution Manager doing Diagnostics.
Even in the case of EWA, while you can connect a Managed system to multiple Solution Manager systems and have then generate a report, one of the Solution Manager systems must be defined as the Master.
So the specific scenario may place some restrictions on connecting a managed system to more than one Solution Manager,
but for most instances it can be done.

  • System monitoring - DSWP and RZ21

    Hi all,
I am using sap solution managers workcenter "System monitoring" to set up the sap monitornig for a huge landscape. This works well, but to receive alerts (e.g. per mail)  I additionaly have to do the settings in RZ21 (assign central autoreactions). This is not very comfortable because each setting has to be done twice (in dwsp and rz21) and there is also the risk to forget something. Do you know any other possibility? Do you know about plans to integrate the functions of RZ21 into DSWP?
    Thanks

  • Service Desk message forwarding to Central System

    HI All,
We have a requirement as below. There a total of 5 different customer landscape, each with a solution manager .
Each customer raising tickets to thier own solution manager . The requirement is from each of those service desks, the tickets and its modifications must be synchonized with a central solution manager. The point is Not only the initial ticket, but all the modification of the ticket should reflect in central sol man. Also , there Solution managers are of different versions/support packs too.

  • Creating new document types

    Hi,
i've opened a call at SAP Support for following request and the support has relegate me to the forum/ solution managers:
For some, especially for one customer, is it very important to get new types of documents.
    For example:
The credit memo. The credit memo makes an inventory entry.
The customer als needs an credit memo which doesn't make an inventory entry.
The seccond one for example is an notice of receipt: A customer of our customer send an item as a RMA. Our customer wants to make a kind of an notice, that this/ these item/s are arrived..
this one has to be take over in a bill of delivery when sendig the fixed item back to the customer
    and so on....
It is important to make new document types in B1, set their own characteristics and their own possibility for take over in other documents...

    Hi...
I've written down my suggestions here because the support can't help me farther.
The B1 Support told me that here are members of the Solution Management team in the Forum (View SAP Support Number 1028874 - Missing Functionality / Product Development Collaboration). But - none of my "wishes" have been answered.
    Whats wrong here?
A simple thing like "Will come in the next Patch" or "Is not manageable" will be enough for me.
It's essential for our customers to get these functions or know when it will be implemented!
    Thanks!

Can anyone Plz provide the logic for below requirement.
    •     The data transferred from BPS in fiscal period buckets should be dissagregated into weekbuckets.   This can be done in a routine, situated in the update rule, just before loading the infocube.

  • Is Multiple SDM agents in one Host supported?

    Hi Experts
I know about the rule of one SDM agent per host.  Is it possible to install 2 different SDM agents in one host...
Does SAP supports this?  Is there any documentation supporting this.
    For Example...
I want my Development systems connected to my both Solution Managers ( Production and Development ).  I want to have the possibility to start  monitoring from either one of them.
Or, I want an SDM agent pointing to an external service provider to monitor my landscape throught their SolMan,   And I want to keep one SDM agent configured to my own Solman Server.
    Again
Should/Can I install an additional SDM agent in every system?
Do you have a particular documentation that support this scenario?
    Regards and thanks
    Henry Lopez

    Hi,
first, if you mean SMD Agent, then yes, the diagnostics concept from SAP needs only one diagnostics agent per host.
Big negativ impact on this SAP concept is, that if you implement monitoring with SAP Solution Manager, you have a single point of failure = the SAP Solution Manager itself,
In former days, there was CCMS and primary / secondary target servers possible.
Now with SMD you may have a agent with instance 98 (older versions had 97 as default) which "reacts" to the prod Sol Man and an additional agent with a diffent number which "reacts" to the non-prod Sol Man and so on.
This "single point of failure" in the E2E / SMD concept is for me not acceptable.
Everytime there is a Sol Man downtime, you and your complete "monitoring" will be BLIND.
Sometimes the Java Agent turns from Green to Yellow, then the blindness is for all compontents on that host.
If any alerts (MAI) etc come up, the SolMan down, you will not know / auto-react it until SolMan downtime is over or you restarted the Yellow agent.
That's the reason and solution why the making a SPOF to a "halt/two point of failure" might be better on larger landscapes.
    Raymond

  • Clarification regarding Service Desk

    Dear Experts,
We are currently setting up Service Desk functionality for our landscape using Solution Manager 7.0
    EhP1.
Following the material available on the SMP, we are now able to create messages within the Solution
Managers(internal support desk) and also in the OSS(Primary Support).
We have a CSS system here internal to SAP to which we raise most of our messages. Please suggest if its possible to configure the service desk such that the messages are sento this CSS system instead
    of the Primary support.
Basically, would there be a way to customize the "Send to SAP" action such that it connects to CSS
    instead of OSS?
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

  • Solman 7.1 sp10 ITSM multiple companies

    HI
I am new to this forum.
I have to configure service desk in solution manager 7.1 sp10.
    my query is:
i have to configure service desk for a group of companies. this group have 3 companies. each company has its own separate service desk currently running. they want to move to service desk of solution manager. one of these 3 companies have sap erp installed at their premises all the erp servers are connected to the solman of company 1. they want to use service desk for sap and non sap purposes.
i want to know that in this case for using service desk for non sap also do i have to configure 3 different solution managers or in one solution manager i can configure 3 companies.
if all 3 companies can be configured in one solution manager then how end user will determine on which service desk ticket can be sent?

    Hello Kiran,
Currently you are not allowed to use Solution Manager shared for different sap customers ( companies), It's is possible as indicated by friend Prakhar Saxenabut you are not allowed due to usage rights.
There is a Pilot program named SMaMS Solution Manager as Managed Service where there we are testing that types of scenarios, currently for provide SAP license service as self-service to different sap customers with ITSM ( OSS message ), Maintenance Optimizer, Solution Documentaion and SAO engagement and service delivery. check that link:
Solution Manager Project to watch in 2014
Another problem for your scenario is the ise of ITSM for a non-SAP components, to do that you need to check ITSM license prince because non-SAP systems are not included normally (check with your account manager at SAP).
Technically is hard to separate data on Solution Manager, but is possible in different ways, is not easy.
If you need more information related don't hesitate to contact me.
    Regards,
    Luis
