No Option for Digital Out

After a week of trying to get the Digital Audio Out to work on the X-Fi Audio Extreme card I purchased I'm giving up on Creative! I've always used SoundBlaster Li've & Audigy cards on every computer I've built in the past. I'm building an HTPC & I want to be able to run Digital Audio signals thru my A/V receiver. I have a couple of other units that work just fine this way. One using the original Audigy card & another with the built in C-Media sound. I did a lot of searching & see a lot of other people with the same problem. From what I've determined is that "digital port" is a combination I/O port. In both the Creative console & the Audio console there is no option to enable the Digital Out and no soundcard option to enable "spdif bypass". How can it be with all the posts on the forum here and elsewhere that someone from Creative hasn't realized that there is no option in the software to do this?I bought a Gigabyte motherboard for this HTPC that has built in sound with SPDIF out. After a lot of screwing around trying to get SPDIF to work I found in small print in the manual that to enable the spdif out you need to order a special cable/bracket to enable the SPDIF out from the motherboard. Nowhere on any web site was this mentioned. Turns out the ONLY place in the US to get one of these is from Gigabyte directly!?Very frustrated with these computer hardware outfits that don't supply the proper info for their products. Anyone else feel the same way??

I'm pretty sure I installed all the programs that came on the cd. Did all the upgrades also. I've always liked the sound quality of the SBlaster line of cards. I was searching last nite on the Compusa site & saw a couple of Diamond Multimedia cards and they had separate SPDIF in & out ports on the back of the card. Certainly seems they would be a lot simpler to get working properly than having one port for both in & out functions. Now a moot point for me as I sent away for the SPDIF cable & bracket from Gigabyte to use the onboard sound. Returned the X-Fi card last nite to CC.

  • Sound output only has option for Digital Out, no internal speakers, and no headphones.

I recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro 15" and my sound output is not working correctly. The only option is Digital Out - Optical digital-out port. There is no intenral speakers option, nor is there a headphones option when I put them in. I am running Mountain Lion and unfortunately have tried looking up similar posts with no help. I have attempted to reboot the SMC and perhaps one other trick, but I have not had any luck. If anyone has any idea what I should do or if you need more information to make a diagnosis that would be great! To note, it worked fine when I first got the computer, but when I was messing around trying to hook my computer up to an HDTV (i have a thunderbolt HDMI cable that sends sound as well) I had a couple of problems (I think it was because it was a very old Vizio that did not support the HDMI) and perhaps some of the settings got changed on my computer. Anyways thanks in advance!

    Hi,
That is good news! For some reason I only experienced that for a little while before it straightened out itself. But I know that was driving a lot of people crazy. Thanks for pointing out that 10.6.2 did the trick.

  • Hardware fix for digital out issue

    Hi!
i'm one of the thousand users who has the same problem with the line out / digital out output.
i've been trying all the solutions found around the web:
    Reset the PRAM
    make an SMC reset
pull in and out the headphones jack
delete the plist file of the MIDI configuration
    but none of them worked.
is there an handmade hardware solution for this issue?!
    Thank you all!

Use the search tool. The answer is out there as plenty have had it. I am currently and am using teh search tool. That's how I found your post.

  • Configure for digital out

I just upgraded tp windows xp and my speakers are not working. The speakers were working fine before theupgrade. And I was told by the speaker manufacturer I need to make sure that the soundcard is configured for digital output. How do I do this? I have a Sound blaster PCI

    jop,
Sound Blaster PCI is too general. What is the exact model of the soundcard you have? Does your soundcard came pre-installed from system such as Dell, Acer, Alienware, etc? If it does, it's an OEM card and you will need to obtain the driver/software from those system integrator website. Also, the digital output only option should be within the surround mixer software or speaker setting software, whichever you have.

  • Download options for digital file purchases

I would like to set up BC so customers can login to their account and download their digital file purchases.  I'm not finding much documentation on selling digital files.  Is the only way for customers to download digital file purchases the link on their email receipt or are there other option?

    Hi,
Within BC the file link can only be sent through the purchase email.
I'm unaware of any workarounds at this stage however will leave this thread open to suggestions.

  • What are the support or replacement options for my out of warranty phone?

My beloved 3G, that I use now as a jump drive and an iPod, just died. Dead dead. No response from any buttons, no reset ability, no restoring... Nothing, other than if i charge it it gets really hot. Really really hot.
I have purchased two MacBooks, four iPhones and one iPad over the past three years for myself and my family, and I am wondering what support apple will offer me for my new doorstop. I know it won't be free and I understand that..... But????? Anything? Anyone know? Can I upgrade? Replace? Repair?
    Thanks in advance.

There is nothing special provided in this regard regardless how many Apple products you have purchased over the last 3 years.
Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warrant "repair" price, which pays for an exchange for the same model at a significantly reduced price off what was the full retail sales price. The cost is $199 plus applicable sales tax and the exchange will include a 90 day warranty. This does not require signing a new two year contract with AT&T. This will be for another 3G - the same color and storage capacity. Not sure if Apple offers this for an iPhone that is no longer activated with AT&T, but as already provided, there will be no charge at an Apple store to have a diagnostic check run on your iPhone to determine where the problem lies. If only the battery, Apple has a price to replace the battery only, or you can use a 3rd party for this, or try to do it yourself if you are so inclined.

  • Audio output changed to 'Digital Out' and speakers don't work! Please help!

I'm not exactly sure what's happened, but after starting up my macbook pro, my speakers/audio haven't worked.
The volume control in the menu bar is inactive (looks light grey) and in the Sound menu, I have no option for output devices except for 'Digital Out' - there is no other option for 'external speakers' (as per usual) or anything!
I can plug earphones in, and sound comes out fine... I don't know what may have happened, but I'm really worried - I use my MBP for home & work; I need my speakers to work!!
If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be really grateful. Thank you in advance.

Talked to Tech Support about this when my machine locked up in this same fashion. There's a little "door" inside the headphone jack that can get stuck in the open position and keep the audio from switching back to the internal speakers / stuck in the digital (optical) output position...
The solution: the iPick... It's a toothpick, but if you use it to poke around inside the headphone jack until the little door gets unstuck, it becomes an iPick, and a box of them are very expensive, but they come in lovely colors and are very intuitive to use...
I'm not kidding... Stick a toothpick (or other non-conductive small stick) in the headphone jack and joog it around until it releases the little door...

  • Audio port automatically changes to digital out

    Hi,
I want to record audio from my MiniDisc unit to a 13" MacBook (Mac OS X 10.6.8) using GarageBand, Audacity or similar.
The MD unit is a Sony RH1, which has a Line out port. I connected this via a 3,5mm TRS connector to the combined Audio port of my MacBook.
The problem is that as soon as I plug in the other end of the 3,5mm cable into the Mac's Audio port, the computer's settings switch automatically to "Use audio port for digital out". I cannot choose to use it for input anymore. Using a Mini-TOSLINK cable instead didn't solve the problem.
How can I use the Line-in option of the MacBook to record audio in real-time?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Sound only through digital out

Ok! Forum doesn´t allow you to make a search before you write, these days.
    Nevermind!
My daughters MacBook will not play through internal speakers.
In sys. pref. only option is digital out.
However connecting speakers/headphones works as normal.
Is this hard/ or software based?
We asked this Q before, but are now ready to send the computer for repair.
If it is hardware based, it´s probably not worth doing?

Sometimes the micro switch inside the headphone socket gets stuck.  Look inside the socket - if you can see a red light, that's what's happened.
To unstick the microswitch, plug and unplug a headphone jack into the socket 20-30 times.  If that doesn't work, use a non conducting probe (like a toothpick) to gently reach inside the socket and flick the switch

  • Use of active directory userid/password authentication instead of SAP R/3 User/Password for digital signature?

    Dear all,
I am looking to setup the use of active directory userid/password authentication instead of SAP R/3 User/Password for digital signature. We SSO to the backened ABAP AS via an SAP NW Portal to which SPNEgo kerberos authentication is setup. Today we specify R3 user id/password to digitally approvae a lot release. The idea is to have users maintain one AD password and don't have to remember the R/3 password anymore and also our Security team to avoid password maintenance.
I know there are 3 options for digital signature and
System signature with authorization by user ID and password (We use this currently)
Digital User signature with verification - (We would like to use this with AD userid/password, so the system still ask the users their AD userid/password for the authentication when they try to "sign" a document.)
    User signature without verification
Do you think there is a way to configure the system in order to ask and check the active directory userid/password instead of SAP R/3 password? Where can I found documentation about it ?
I have several different versions of AS ABAP starting from NW 7.02 to NW 7.31.
My active directory is based on Windows 2008.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Dhee

Actually enabling Kerberos for SSO purposes and enabling Kerberos for digital signatures are two different topics although the latter is because of the former. I'm interested in the topic as well and I'm currently looking at different options. SAP provides a BAdI for the digital signature API which can be used for external authentication but they do not provide the solution to invoke Kerberos authentication based on username and password. SAP provides a semi solution with NWSSO 2.0 SP2 which works only on Windows with classic dynpros meaning SAP GUI for Windows is assumed. The solution is based on an ActiveX component which does the actual Kerberos authentication using the Secure Login Client which is part of the NWSSO suite. Extending that implementation to non-Windows and non-GUI applications would require some sort of web enabled service that could be used to authenticate the user with username and password. In case authentication is successful, a Kerberos token would be returned to SAP which would then be validated. All the required pieces are there since SAP has Kerberos support now in both stacks of the NetWeaver Application Server, some bits are still missing though which leaves customers looking at 3rd party or custom solutions.

  • No digital out on Audigy 2 va

I upgraded from an Audigy to 2 and I'm trying to use some Boston Accoustics BA7500G digital speakers. I normally would tick the box "Digital out" on the speaker settings on my A and set 4/4. as the setup and I would have 4 speaker sound. However with the A2 I *DO NO GET* that "digital out" tick box, where it would be on the speaker config window is instead a blank area. Any ideas? I also did a fresh install of WinXP in a spare partition and using the drivers from the A2 CD I get the same result.

I am having a similar problem with no output to my BA7500Gs, however, I am using the SB Li've! 24-bit card that DOES have the tick box for digital out only. If you speaker set is from an old Gateway system, we may be suffering from a cable problem since according to Jeremy-CL in the posting "Creative Labs<SPAN class=navbar_sep>: Speaker Systems<SPAN class=navbar_sep>:<SPAN class=navbar_text>Re: Boston Acoustics + Sound Blaster + Windows XP = no sound?", Gateway sort of rigged the sound card to work with the digital BA7500G speakers. I have opened a separate post <SPAN>BA7500G + Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit + Windows 2k = no sound in effort to find a resolution. Will provide one if found.

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.
