No option for "draft" quality in print options

Hi there,
I have read some of the posts here with regards to attempts to print in "draft" quality mode.
Some answers have been specific only to certain printer models.
Is there a better solution?
My wife and I are using Macbook Air(s). Hers is OS Lion. Mine is Mavericks.
We are both unable to find and print in "draft" quality for both our home and office printers - Brother MFC-J625DW and HP Officejet Pro 8620.
On the other hand, I have an old Macbook running OS Leopard. This Macbook allows me to print in Draft quality with both printers.
So I don't think this is a printer issue but a Mac issue.

Your browser/web site problems may be because Apple has screwed up the log in process. If you go to a particular topic thread _before_ logging in, you can't login and go back to that topic as a logged-in user (it shows you logged out when you try to return to a page, even after logging in). Does that seem to fit the issue you had?
On to your printing problem. Sometime after Snow Leopard (maybe Mavericks), Apple and printer manufacturers implemented a new print paradigm - mostly for mobile devices (like iPhone, iPad), called "airprint." Airprint is driverless, minimum options printing. When you add a printer on Mavericks, using the "driverless" driver, it normally says "airprint" in the driver/model name. And the symptoms are that most normal options aren't available.
Try deleting the printer from Print & Scan prefs, then add again and make sure the real driver is found/used.

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and am trying to change a printer to black and white/gray scale. All the posts I find refer to a button for Paper Quality. This does not appear on my options. Just paper handling which does not have a function to change from colour.

I cannot change the printer settings on my MacBook Pro to gray scale from colour. there is no function for Paper quality, just paper handling. any suggestions greatly appreciated - as long as they work!!

Was the printer instance properly configured when created, so the print subsystem picked the correct PPD and knows of all the device's capabilities? If in doubt, erase and create anew so you can confirm that the printer maker/model/version is getting correctly identified. This may trigger Software Update to download & install a printer update. 1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.

Best options for decent quality output?

Hi all, I'm using a Canon HG10 shooting HD AVCHD. I am pretty pleased with the new archive facility as it's helping save space, and I'm debating whether to edit in 960x540 or 1920x1080.
The 1080 footage looks way better onscreen (to my eye at least) in the original AVCHD and the ingested AIC format. However I can't seem to get a really decent output stage.
Can anyone recommend share/export settings that will give me 1080 video in the 4-8gb/hr range that approaches the quality of the raw footage?

For good quality 1920x1080 video, you will need much higher data rates.
If you are burning BluRay, export using Quicktime in AIC, and drag the resulting file into TOAST version 9 or 10. If you want to play on a Sony PS3 or on your MAC, export using QuickTIme to h.264 format.
Here are some settings that work for me:
1) export from iMovie using Share using Quicktime...
2) select format MPEG-4
3) select options:
a) under file format select MP4 (not MP4 ISMA)
b) under video tab select H.264
data rate in of 16000 to 18000 kbits/sec (Toast uses 16000 when burning to BluRay)
image size---1920X1080HD
frame rate---select 29.97 (I am NTSC)
key frame---select either automatic or every 24 frames
video options---select "MAIN" profile and single pass encoding
under audio tab select default AAC-LC
under streaming tab select default "not enabled"

Options gone for select,edit, and print under HP Smart Web banner since HP dialed in to fix crash

The buttons are gone for selecting, editing, and printing under my HP Smart Web since HP dialed in and fixed another problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software but still no luck. All that shows up is the "HP Smart Web Printing" banner with the X to exit; that's it, no options listed below. My computer has completely crashed twice since I started using it 1/4/10. The second time the person dialed in and changed the bios and a few things in msconfig but I don't see anything there that would cause the smart web printing. HELP. Am I missing something really silly since I am a new user of HP Smart Print?

I am REALLY annoyed to read this post. I have spent a lot of time to try and fix my computer (which I don't have with 5 kids...not your problem I know and NOT the point). It should NOT be this hard to update and fix a product. I DON'T WANT the Bing bar...and am feeling like I am being forced to accept it to make my puter run correctly because it is supported by HP. What....kind of service is THAT???????? I hope that someone from HP....admin or whatever...reads this. I am "madder" than mad. I have had HP products for years with few problems...and all of which I could find a solution for. This is unacceptable...and I hope someone listens. I don't know if I can trust HP again....when it won't even use the browser most use without problems. Option for Automatic two sided printing no longer available

Win 7 and HP c7280, Word 2010. Everything worked fine yeasterday but today when I tried to change from one sided to automatic two sided printing I got only two choices, one page or manual two sided. It is set for automatic in the printer properties but in the panel where it asks what you want to print I put in entire documant and then below that it asks for one sided or drop down menu used to say manula or automatic two sided, now it only says manual. What happened and how to I fix it. Printer Setup says the extra atachment is "installed"

Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. Indesign cc export pdf presets for Press Quality and High Quality Print are missing.

I no longer have the options for Press Quality or High Quality Print in exporting a PDF. Is that intentional? Can I get them back?

How can I stop Acrobat from overriding a printer's draft settings and printing in photo quality?

Regardless of which settings I choose for my printer, Acrobat always prints in maximum quality.
The printer works as expected with every other application I have, from Photoshop, Word and Pages, to Preview and Mail. But when I print a PDF via Acrobat or Reader, the printer lays down so much ink that the paper sometimes comes out damp.
If it matters, the printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400, and I'm using Acrobat 8.2.6 and Reader 10.0.3 on a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.7.
To reiterate, every other app I use respects the Epson printer dialog settings when it comes to printing in economy mode. I've looked around in Acrobat's print settings and can find absolutely nothing along the lines of "print in draft quality." Am I the only person who doesn't want, or need, to burn up expensive printer cartridges unnecessarily?
This has been a problem since I bought the software, and it behaved the same way with my old printer (an Epson Stylus Photo 800). I don't need to print very many PDFs, but when I do, the printer wastes an enormous amount of ink.
I'm not looking for a workaround, I just want to be able to open a PDF in Acrobat or Reader, hit CMD-P, choose the economy print setting, and have it actually print in low resolution.
Being able to print a draft copy of a PDF seems to be a perfectly reasonable expectation when using software from the very company that developed the PDF standard in the first place.
Any help would be appreciated.

Understood. I've already checked for driver updates, and am already using the most current version. I really appreciate your trying to help, ... let's hope someone out there has some suggestions, too.

New Deskjet 3520 - print has changed to draft quality now I have changed connectivity of printer

I have a new Deskjet3520 printer. It was working well via USB connection and I was happy with the prints that came from it
I have now connected now via wireless connection.
The system did all the hard work and I was very impressed with how easy it was.
However, I now have a problem, I have printed off a sheet of text that is all black text with the email address part in blue.The prints are coming out as if in draft format - pale grey with the blue portion coming out pale pink!
I haven't changed any settings, just trying to print off text.
Just tried it agin and now thgere are just faint markings on the page
I have checked the setup and it is definately set for colour printing and NOT for draft
I only purchased the printer late December and it has HP inks
Can anyone help me please?

It sounds like the Deskjet 3520 has developed a print quality issue. It doesn't appear that the printer has begun using a draft mode, but instead has most likely gotten some ink dried up in the ports of the printhead for the unit.
Have you tried running the Clean Printhead utility in the Setup menu of the printer?
Follow these steps to run an automatic utility to clean the printhead.
Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the paper tray.
On the product control panel, press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Settings , and then press OK .
Press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
Press the Down Arrow ( ) to select Clean Printhead , and then press OK . The product cleans the printhead, and then prints a test page.
I would advise running 3 levels of the clean printhead utility. Also try performing an ink system reset to this unit. It may have some ink on the electrical contacts causing the printer to not communicate properly with the cartridges. For information on how to perform an ink system reset click here.
As well, there are additional steps for a print quality issue found here. Let me know how it goes.

Hi,
Tap Copy on the printer front panel, then tap the Settings button.
Tap Quality and select Draft / Fast.
Tap Set as New Defaults and then select Yes to confirm the changes.
From now on draft quality will be used for copying unless any other quality will be selected.

Photo smart 7520 draft quality default setting?

How do you set draft quality settings so it will be the default setting for regular printing?
From our Ipad it prints normal which is to dark. We don't know how to go to printer settings and reset it each time we print.
I've gone to advanced options on my computor to output quility and set at fast draft. When I print it returns to normal

Greetings!
To set/change the default setting of your printing preferences on your computer following steps should help...
Close all open applications
Go to Control Panel and choose Devices and Printers (you may also have this shortcut in your start menu)
In the window you would see your printer, right click and choose Printing Preferences
Make all the respective changes here and click on Apply and then OK
From here on your default print option, when you click on Ctrl+P or Print, would be what you set.

Bad pdf quality when printing from word 2004

hello,
when i print a document with a lot of screenshots from wort in the save as pdf dialogue... the pictures in the document have a very bad quality.
where can i defin or setup the general quality for the print as a pdf?
i know, that there is a option for compressing file size as a pdf, but I work with the normal saving as a pdf.. and in the help, apple says, that this is the optimum quality..
can anyone help me?

Hi Fabian -
Screenshots produce very low resolution images... 72 pixels per inch on the Mac. The settings you are using do produce optimum quality, but based on what you are starting with, and 72 ppi is not sufficient for decent printed output.
If you save the screenshots (Grab saves as TIFF), use an image editor like Photoshop to create a better quality image (200 ppi) & then insert the image into your doc you'll get higher quality output.
There are also other programs that allow for higher quality screenshots if this is something you will need to do on a professional/regular basis.

Why am i getting poor quality photo prints after installing lion using canon pixma 6120?

After installing Lion, I began experiencing poor quality photo prints on my Canon Pixma 6120 printer. Prior to Lion, my picture prints were all high quality. Now, anything black in the picture is faded.

Lion should not cause the blacks to print faded. The printer drivers used by Snow Leopard and Leopard are the same version as that used by Lion.
For starters I suggest you check that you have the latest version installed. This Apple KB article shows the MG6100 series has v10.51.2.0 as the latest version.
I also recommend you do a Nozzle test print. This can be executed from the MG6120 control panel or via the Printer Utilties window (via Print & Scan, select the printer and then open Options & Supplies and then select the Utilties tab).
If the nozzle test print is okay but the blacks still look faded when printing photos (note the printer has two black ink tanks - one for photos and one for text) then try a reset of the printing system. This will remove the MG6120 from the Print & Scan pane but not the supporting drivers. So you will only have to add the printer again.
