No option to burn to a CD-R

Hi,
I'm posting for a friend who has a problem with his MacBook, which is 2 GHz Intel Core 2 duo running OSX 10.4.10.
When you put a bank CD-R into the computer, finder doesn't recognise the disk. When usually you would get an option to open finder, itunes or another application to burn the CD. I've checked in the disc utility and the CD-R is there, but I don't get an option to burn onto it in any way. This is also the case in i-tunes.
Does anybody have a solution for this?
Thanks

go to system preference > hardware section > cd & DVD > set the configuration as you like other than ignore.
Try to insert dvd or other brand cd.
Also repair permission to refresh your software behaviour by opening application folder > utilities folder > disk utility > repair permission.
Good Luck.

I want to make a Compact Disc of some songs in my iTunes library.  I can't get an option to 'Burn' ANYWHERE!!

Edgar,  Do the following steps in order:
    File > New > Playlist.
Drag the songs you want into that new playlist.
Right-click the playlist name, and choose "Burn Playlist to Disc."

Mel,  Sure, although that is "copying," not "burning."  It is easily done, as follows:
Insert the USB stick into your computer, and open it up so it looks like a folder.  Highlight the songs you want in iTunes, and drag them into the folder.
If you normally run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

  • IDVD doesn't give me the option to burn dvd's.

I've got the project ready to burn, but when I go to burn the dvd I don't have the option, the burn button is also inactive. Please offer any advice you can.

If you find that your Macbook does not have DVD burning capability you can:
1 - use the File->Save as Disk Image menu option to save the project as a disk image
2 - copy that image to a Mac with a SuperDrive
3 - burn from the other Mac with Disk Utility.

  • Encore Media CC does not give me the option to burn bluray or DVD

    regards,
I have the Premier Pro and Encore Media CC version. The problem is I can not burn DVD or Bluray vesion as before with CS4. Try lowering the encore CS6 and no achievement. I'm working with HD videos of 60 minutes. Encore CC does not give me the option to burn bluray or DVD

    @dynamite,
The applications panel doesn't allow you to change the behavior in application files. There you can only change settings for PDF files, IRC client, Windows Media Audio, Windows Media Video and ZIP files. That's it.

  • No option to "BURN" for a slideshow in iphoto

I created a slide show and would like to just burn it to cd or dvd when I select the slideshow which shows in the source window and go to share the burn option is not available when I choose send to idvd I get an error "the export movie file could not be created" the only round about way was to export the file using file/export and save it as a .mov file which does not open in either imovie or idvd it just enables me to drag the file onto an empty cd or dvd icon on my desktop (after inserting into my burner) and choose file/burn disk -
My question is why can't I just choose burn from iphoto? without doing the runaround?

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Are you simply trying to brun a slideshow to disk? Or create a disk that will play in a DVD player?
when I select the slideshow which shows in the source window and go to share the burn option is not available
Because that's not what the Share -> Burn command is for. That command is to burn a Library onto a disk. It captures one in a format that iPhoto can understand as is aimed at backing up.
when I choose send to idvd I get an error "the export movie file could not be created"
Check you have a Movies Folder at the top level of your Account. By the way, the send to iDVD option only works for burning DVDs.
So, to burn a slideshow to a disc the correct method is to export it and burn with the Finder.

  • TiVo and Mac - options for burning DVD of TiVo'ed recordings (personal use)

I have 2 Series 2 TiVo boxes connected via wireless network to my iMac (Intel-based mid07). The issue is the limited recording capacity, only a problem when traveling overseas - they both fill up in about 2 weeks. When I get back home, since I can't watch my recorded shows as fast as I record on a daily basis when I have a backlog, I am trying to find a quick way to dump TiVo'ed stuff to DVD to watch later. So I bought Roxio Popcorn and installed the TiVoToGo on my iMac. The issues I have are:
    1. When I transfer a recording to my iMac, it strips the "header" from the recording that shows the name of the show, length, channel, episode synopsis, date, etc that I get when using TiVo's "Save to VCR" option - hate to lose that
    2. Popcorn doesn't seem to have any settings where I can adjust the DVD writer to simulate EP, VP etc recording modes that (on a commercial DVD player/burner) vary how much recording time I have on a given DVD.
    3. "Popping" a recording from TiVo box to Mac is a misnomer - it takes almost as long as playing the recording.
So all this has me thinking there must be a faster, easier way to dump recordings from TiVo to DVD and with a recording mode of my choosing. I have read about Roxio Toast but it isn't clear that these particular issues would be solved and hate to spend another $100 to find out. Thx for any suggestions...

I have used this program (free - using open source components)
    http://tdm.sourceforge.net/
Looks like this may be a newer version, so I'll have to try it out. Thanks for asking the question.
    1. I don't think there is anything you can do about that. To be encoded, the material has to be part of the recorded video. The software will name the encoded video file in a somewhat descriptive manner, but it won't give you a frame with the program details.
    2. There is really no such thing as EP and VP. All that is doing is lowering the resolution (quality) of the recorded video encoding, so that each video takes less space. In the program linked above, you can change the resolution of the encoding so that each video takes less space, but you lose quality.
    3. Lower resolution encodings should take less time to produce (but it still takes time). The biggest bottleneck with the TiVo (Series 2) appears to be the slow network connection. It takes a long time to push (or maybe pull is more accurate) the video data from the TiVo to the Mac. It is best to set up a queue and let it run while you are sleeping or away. Once you have encoded the TiVo program/episode into a video file, you can use that file however you want. But, putting it onto a DVD would seem to be the least efficient thing you can do, because the space on a DVD is limited, and you are adding another block of time (in addition to the time it took to encode the video from the TiVo), to re-encode it again and burn it to a DVD. Much more efficient would be to store it on your computer and use it from there. If you lack storage, get a large external drive and store the files there. Then, watch from the computer. If you want to watch on the TV, connect the TV to the Mac as a second display. Or get an Apple TV and stream the video from your computer to the TV. For the last two, the TV needs to be an HDTV (connected by HDMI) for best results.

  • How do you remove a cd from the macbook air superdrive when it won't eject.  all is get is the option to burn a cd when i click eject

Just bought a mini and a dvd superdrive.  was uploading pictures and one cd won't eject when I click on the eject icon.  It will display that I can burn one if I insert a cd, but won't eject the current cd.  How do you override the pop up or manually eject the  cd from the superdrive without taking it to a store or asking for a replacement?

You can also eject a disc by restarting your computer and holding down the primary mouse button while the computer is starting up until the disc is ejected.

  • The new iMovie lacks the option to burn to a DVD- does this bother anyone else?

so I love the new version of iMovie but am disappointed that I can no longer send it to be turned into a DVD unless I purchase 3rd party software. I love the new enhancements, but if I can't easily burn a DVD with my movies, I'm going to have to go back to iMovie 9.  Is anyone else bothered by this? has anyone else found an easy solution?  fortunately I have the last version of iDVD still on my computer and can manually make a DVD with it but I'm worried that at some point and upgrade to the OS will make the use of iDVD impossible.  I get the impression that Apple thinks that most people share their movies via the internet or Apple TV.  I like to have a DVD that I can give to family, friends etc of special events.

i have had this problem i find if you turn the iphone off an back on again it sends

  • TS1436 I just installed itunes 11 on my new computer.  I hooked up my ipod and created a new playlist from my library.  I wanted to burn the playlist to a cd but after I insert the CD, there is no "burn to cd"option. It's not under "file". please help!!!

I installed Itune 11 on my new Dell Inspiron, windows 7, computer.
I wanted to burn a cd from a new playlist I created in my library.  The "burn to CD" option does not come up anywhere?  It's not under "File" and the "tool"at the bottom of the page does not have an option for "burn to cd."
I've made many cds in the past off of OTHER playlists so I'm not sure why it's do difficult now?  What am I doing wrong?
A huge issue to begin with was the songs that Icloud recognized on in my library when I first installed the Itunes 11.  I since was able to "hide"all the old songs but that didn't help my "burning to cd" issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, I"m spending way too much time trying to figure this out.
    Thank you!!

    Good lord.
I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you have a 32-bit Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you have a 64-bit Windows, open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Is "Burn Playlist to Disc" showing up in the contextual menu now?

  • How do you burn a cd when no where on any menu is the option there

I am on Dell PC with Windows/Vista and just downloaded ITunes and brought in all my music.  I want to burn a cd and on my other ITunes it was easy. There is no option for burning a CD on any menu or when I right click a playlist.  Also very tough to find my playlists now.

In iTunes, select the playlist on the left Sidebar, right click and select Burn Playlist to Disc from popup.

  • Exporting Images - no burn to DVD/CD option

Why when I export and look at my post processing options is the option to burn to a DVD/CD not presented to me? I have an internal CD/DVD read/ write in my laptop and an external DVD burner plugged into a USB port. Yet, no option to burn? Any ideas?
BTW, I am working on a PC, XP OS, if that helps.
    Thank you very much.

Lots of discussion about this in the past. Do a forum search for "export burn option" for ideas.
