No option to edit access files in sharepoint.

The access files only gives  ‘open’ option & once the file is opened the changes are saved in the copy downloaded in the PC not on the one in the portal?

Hi Rizzk,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you cannot save changes to Access files in SharePoint.
I tested the same scenario per your post, and the changes can be saved back after I clicked Save button in Access.
I recommend to click Design With Access button or click each Access files and select Modify to see if the issue still occurs.
Best regards.
Thanks

  • Editing powerpoint files in sharepoint

    Hi,
One of my clients is having issues editing powerpoint files in sharepoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted).
He gets the following error when clicks edit and then clicks check out.
"We're having trouble connecting to the server. If this keeps happening, contact your help desk."
I have managed to work a fix for him by getting him to click the ... to the right of the document and then clicking check out and then opening the file again to edit it. However this is a sudden change to his process and an extra few steps he does not want
    to keep having to do.
He is currently not the only user in the organisation to having this problem either.
I have tried trawling through many instances of people having this error but it mainly seems to be in the links to the files which does not seem to be the case here as I have checked that problem. There must be some other underlying issue that due to my
lack of experience with SharePoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted) I just am unable to discover.
Thanks in advance for all help and advice it will be much appreciated!

  • Unable to edit XLSM files in SharePoint using hyperlink?

    Hi All,
Unable to edit .xlsm files using hyperlink, please guide me.
    Thanks
    Ramanjulu Naidu N

    Hi Ramanjulu,
Did this happen to all users?
Did the "Read Only/Edit" dialog pop up when you click the .xlsm Name link from SharePoint 2010?
Could you see the yellow message bar with "Edit Workbook" button when you open the .xlsm file in your Excel Application?
You can check if the following kb article could solve yellow message bar missing problem, set "Browser File Handling" as Permissive for your web application, or update the registry for client Office application.
Also check if the add-on "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" is enabled in your IE 32-bit browser.

  • Open and edit PDF files like sharepoint

In sharepoint when we open a PDF document, an ActiveX control gets installed, and the file opens in Adobe Reader installed at the client machine. There is also an additional menu item that allows the file to be checked in back to the server.
I need to achieve a similar kind of functionality for my application. Can some one guide me on where I need to start?
The purpose here is to automate the task of downloading the PDF file, editing it and then uploading it back to server.
I am ok if there is any way the file can be opened in the browser itself and then edited and saved (like by using any activeX control).
Are there any tools or licenses I need to buy for this ?
    Thanks

Adobe Reader won't but Acrobat Pro XI can open the same document in two windows and it updates both as you make changes "on the fly"...
    The downside? $499.
Acrobat Standard is $299 and I  don't know if it can do the "one doc two window" editing.

  • [Desktop] Restore Option to Edit Local File Information

Spotify has taken away users' ability to easily edit information on any local files (right click local file - edit info), such as adding an artist, album, or editing the title (yes, this comes in useful).
I've added a screenshot of 2 local songs: the top one had information edited before the update, while the bottom one was just added and I can't add any missing information or change the bizarre title, thanks to Spotify's new update.
Not only is editing information useful for clarity, but it is also key for linking local tracks to Spotify's catalogue.
If this is affecting you or my unsightly song title bothers you, please give this post kudos! Every little bit helps. Thank you!

by Meredith Monday - last edited Monday Options  Status changed to: Not right now
Hey everyone, thanks for you continued feedback around the latest Desktop update. We are marking this ideas as 'Not Right Now' since your local files in the Desktop app should just mirror whatever is on your HDD. If you change/ delete something on your HDD it will be mirrored in Spotify. You can of course continue to leave comments and kudos here, thanks!
--------> REALLY? Not right now? Here's another prime example of Spotify not giving a darn about their customers. This IDEA page is about things we absolutely NEED and hate about the new update you released (which, lets face it, is a fail in almost all ways). Then you as a Spotify employee come on here and tell us that its not what we need or want, and tell us what this feature should in fact do. Well then, who needs customer satisfaction, right?

  • No option to "Edit in Browser" with Excel file in Sharepoint library

The excel file in my SP library does not have an option to "Edit in Browser". I can only seem to edit it within Excel, which requires me to download the file onto my desktop, then I would have to upload it again to SP. This obviously requires more
work and time to do a simple task.
    I followed instructions from: http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/office-online-help/use-excel-web-app-in-a-sharepoint-library-HA102618998.aspx
Unfortunately, I dont have the "Edit in Browser" link for my Excel file

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you could not find the “Edit in Browser” option.
To use this option, we have to configure the Office Web App Server.
There are some articles about how to configure the Office Web App for SharePoint, you can refer to them.

  • How can multiple users edit and access same ACCESS file

    Hello,
We have 2 access files and multiple users needs to edit and access those files.
How can I enable mulitple access but only one user can edit rest of users are in read-only mode for one file and multiple access and edit on the another file.

    Hi,
You should split your database in a front and backend. Then create two seperate front ends which you can distribute. If you need readonly you can opt for two options, setting the attributes of the file to read only or create a front end with read only forms.
The last one takes a little more work but is safer than setting the attributes to read only because people can change that back themselfs.

  • "An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files" connecting site with SharePoint Designer

I have a SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 AD Server, 1 DB Server and 1 APP Server, with 13 Web Applications running under the SharePoint.
Recently I rebuilted the application because of some infrasctrucutre problems, and I was able to solve all of them, except one. I can't connect to any of those 13 Web Apps with SharePoint Designer. When I try to connect, it always ask credentials, then it
seems like loading the site, then the error appears:
"An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files. Authors - if you are authoring against
a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application event log for more details."
I've spent hours troubleshooting it, but none of the information I found was valid. I've already tried to clean the cache, but didn't work. I found plenty of related data of this
error with FrontPage and old versions of SharePoint, but nothing helped. All the Web Apps are SPD-Enabled at Site Collection Administration. I've tried connecting from many different PC's. The 15/LOGS folder doesn't get any data from this error, neither the
    Event Viewer.
I really don't know what else to do. Please Help!

I found the answer of my issue was in a .NET Agent installed by NewRelic on the server. I found a connection trouble with Fiddler, then I end up figuring this out:
This can be the result of Real User Monitoring so the first step in troubleshooting would be to disable it and see how it affects the application. The .Net Agent injects snippets of javascript into the header of pages sent to the users browser to measure the
page load time on the user's end.
You can disable RUM by editing newrelic.config and changing this line:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="true"/>
    to this:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="false"/>

  • Unable to edit files in Sharepoint

    Hi,
When I try to edit a file, I get a pop up asking me to open the file, which I accept, then Excel, or Word, asks for my login. Then I get "Sorry we couldn't open XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.XXX"
    Clicking OK presents:
"Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.XXX'. There are several possible reasons:
    * File name or path does not exist
    * The file is being used by another program
    * The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook"
This used to work fine, but upon returning from the Christmas break, this is the error.
Ticking the file in sharepoint, then clicking files and download copy works and is prompted for a file download to start.
Similarly if I go to Open in Explorer under Library, it opens an explorer window with the files. Double clicking them yields the same error as above.
If I go to Excel, Open, Other Web Locations, then I have recent folders showing my sharepoint details, clicking into this shows the files and allows me to edit, save etc.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
    Many thanks :)
    Jon

I agree with Andrew.  You may also want to add the Checked Out too Column to your views.
Please also be aware that if the file has been opened bt someone that's then wondered off for Christmas and left it open, there may also be a lock on a network level applied to the file, rather than this being applied on a SharePoint web app level.

  • SP2013 and Project 2013 - project files open in read-only mode with no options to edit only Save As

    Hi all,
    Environment:
    SharePoint 2013 (15.0.4420.1017)  RTM
    Windows 8 - Project 2013 (15.0.4433.1506) 32Bit
    Issue details:
When opening .mpp files stored within SharePoint they are opened successfully within Project 2013 however they are opened in Read-Only mode with no options to edit/check out only Save As.  The
same outcome is experienced if you click the document link within SharePoint or you chose to edit from the document menu.
Opening the file through windows explorer also opens only in read-only mode.
To date we’ve tested the following
    Windows 7 – Office 2010 = working as expected
    Windows 8 – Office 2010 = working as expected
Windows 7 – Office 2013 = opening as read only, no prompt to edit
Windows 8 – Office 2013 – opening as read only, no prompt to edit
Current thinking is that it is an issue with either the SharePoint Office Documents Class ActiveX control or Project 2013 itself interacting with SharePoint 2013.
We have tested this in multiple SP2013 environments with the same outcomes.
The workaround therefore is to save locally and then upload again which is not ideal.
Unable to find an exact issue match to this.
    Any help with this appreciated.

    Hi Dan,
For us after investigating this further it was found that using the document menu to edit or checkout and then edit results in the project file being opened in read-only mode.
The same issue was present for Visio files.
Using the FILES ribbon menu results in the document being opened in edit mode successfully in both Project and Visio.
Please note that we found that this issue only exists within document libraries where checkout is required to edit which was our case.  If checkout is not required the document
menu can also be used as expected.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Unable to export data from Web Access Data Sheet in Sharepoint to local excel or access file

    Greetings and good morning.
I'm going to start off in broad terms with this question because I'm not 100 percent sure what information to provide.
Long story short, we've got a Web Access Data Sheet list hosted in a Sharepoint 2010 environment. It is accessed and used by multiple people throughout the day. It contains several thousand line item entries. I'd call it a large data sheet.
I think the size of the data sheet is casuign some instability in the list. I'd like to be able to export a defined range of data from the list into a local excel or access file. After that, I'd delete the stuff on the Access list to improve performance.
But...when I attempt to use the Sharepoint Action bar to export - Excel locks up/crashes. If I try to export to Access, I get a similar issue.
Any ideas? Could anyone begin by telling me what other information is required?

    Hi,
If you would like to export data from Access Web Database in SharePoint 2010, you could go to Design With Access page in Settings. The url in my environment is http://sp/tt/_layouts/accsrv/ModifyApplication.aspx . Then choose the Table and export it to Excel
    or Modify it in Access.

  • Access denied. When trying to upload files into SharePoint with PowerShell

AM trying to upload a bunch of files into SharePoint using PowerShell. I have a code that works on my local machine, but when I get on the server, it does not. Here is what my block of code looks like
    $webUrl = "http://SampleSite"
    $libraryName = "My Lib"
    $docLibraryUrlName = "My%20ContentType"
    $fileLocation = "C:\test\"
    $contentType = "My ContentType"
    #Open web and library
    $web = Get-SPWeb $webUrl
    $docLibrary = $web.Lists[$libraryName]
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $fileLocation)).GetFiles()
    ForEach($file in $files)
    #Open file
    $fileStream = ([System.IO.FileInfo] (Get-Item $file.FullName)).OpenRead()
    # Gather the file name
    $FileName = $File.Name
    #remove file extension
    $NewName = [IO.Path]::GetFileNameWithoutExtension($FileName)
#split the file name by the "-" character
    $FileNameArray = $NewName.split("_")
    #Add file
    #$folder = $web.getfolder($docLibraryUrlName)
    $folder = $web.getfolder($docLibrary)
    write-host "Copying file " $file.Name " to " $folder.ServerRelativeUrl "..."
    $spFile = $folder.Files.Add($folder.Url + "/" + $File.Name, $fileStream, $true)
    $spItem = $spFile.Item
    #populate metadata
    $spItem["First Column"] = $FileNameArray[0]
    $spItem["Second Column"] = $FileNameArray[1]
    $spItem.Update()
    $fileStream.Close();
Again, this code works fine on my local machine but doesn't when I move this to the server. When I step through the code, I noticed that when I look at the data returned for my $folder variable in this snippet
    $folder = $web.getfolder($docLibrary)
It shows the EffectiveRawPermissions to be "Open, BrowseUserInfo, UserClientIntegration" on the server...however, the EffectiveRawPermissions on my local machine is "FullMask". Does this have any effect on the ability of my code to be
able to upload the files into SP on the server? I have never run into this issue, so am not sure how this makes sense...so I really appreciate any insight. Thanks
I am getting this error when the code attempts to perform the "Add" function...

RunWithElevatedPriv basically impersonates the webapp's app pool account, which should have full control over the entire webapp... this would work, but is not recommended for several reasons:
    - first and foremost, you shouldn't NEED to bypass the SP security model
    - second and still important, the app pool may be hosting other webapps as well, so the risk of a bug causing security-related problems within the RunWithElev codeblock is no longer scoped to the current webapp, but also other webapps that share the same
    app pool account.
    - third, same as number two, but for service accounts, and possibly even the farm... not a good practice, but a lot of SP installs aren't configured correctly, so the entire farm may be using one account... now, the RunWithElev is not just a webapp admin,
not just a multiple webapp admin, but may be able to affect service apps, or possibly the entire farm.
    - fourth, the audit info (created by, modified by) will reference the system account, instead of your account... not a very accurate audit trail in that case.
If you have a legit need to add the files, you should be able to get the necessary permissions (which is basically just contribute within the library / folder) easily enough.

    Hi Rangnath,
For running SharePoint Designer 2013, you need to install Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework or higher.
Please uninstall the Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework, and install it again. After that, reboot your machine.
