No option to print duplex in 10.1.9

I'm using a Mac running OS 10.6.5 and Reader 10.1.9. My printer is a Samsung ML-2950.  It is capable of duplex printing. In fact, when I print using Preview there is a checkbox to select double-sided printing (and it works!).
From what I've read online, there is supposed to be a similar checkbox in the Reader Print menu under the Size selection.  There is not.
Why does Preview allow duplex printing and Reader does not?
****Workaround****
My exact printer is a Samsung ML2955ND.  For my document, in Reader's Properties, Advanced menu, DuplexMode is set to Simplex (it is grayed out and can't be changed).
I was able to print double-sided by:
1. Selecting the Page Setup button in Reader's Print Menu. Select Yes in the next screen. Then, in the Page Setup screen, make sure Format  For specifies your printer and not Any Printer.
2. Following the instructions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/print-double-sided-acrobat-reader.html for a Mac.
If I did only Step 2 and Page Setup was set to Any Printer, I got single-sided results.  Kind of makes sense.
Don't know why Preview and every other application on my Mac can pick up  from the Samsung print driver that duplex printing is available and provide the appropriate check box in the Print Menu. But, Reader doesn't pick it up and makes you go through extra steps.

I'm using Acrobat 8.3.1 under Mac OS 10.6.8 and also had no option for double sided when printing on a new Samsung M2835DW. Despite the print manager saying duplex was active, it kept spitting out single pages. I found a web picture showing a box in the Mac print dialogue labelled two-sided (at http://www.samsung.com/us/support/howtoguide/N0000189/17716/241041/CLX-6260FD/XAA) - so where had that gone in Acrobat? I then noticed the picture was for printing in TextEdit. Low and behold, the two-sided option comes up and works in this programme. But that doesn't help with Acrobat and Microsoft Office. What you need to do in TextEdit is to click on the Presets drop-down menu in the print dialogue box and then click 'save as', giving it a name such as duplex. That option will then appear in all other programmes. Why doesn't Acrobat or Office provide a route into this option? - who knows, but they should.

  • Lost my option to print duplex. How do I get it back?

Lost my option to print duplex. How do I get it back?

Sig, I don't know what happened. I was printing in duplex frequently. My wife installed a new computer (PC) and  was hooking up to printer via wifi. Then I couldn't print, turned the printer off and on and it printed for a short time. Then quit again. In all of these cases, the box for duplex printing was not showing. I tried to go to the systems and turn it on, without any instruction or help. Turned the printer off again, disconnected the connection to the router and turned everything back on again. It printed and printed a document in duplex. I consider your response as having some magic and therefore mark it as "solved." Thanks for responding.

  • How print duplex on Solaris 10 0508 x86 ?

    Hello,
I just installed Solaris 10 0508 x86 on a Ultra 20. We have a networked HP laserjet 8150dn printer. What is the option to print duplex?
Previously on Solaris 10, 1106, I followed the instructions on http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/duplex_printing.html and was able to print double-sided.
However, now on update 0508, the same lp and lpadmin option "-o sides=two-sided-short-edge" doesn't work - still prints single-sided. What gives? Please help me save a tree!
These lp or lpadmin options didn't work either:
    "-o duplex"
    "-o sides=duplex"
    Also looked at HP's SOLe134.PKG, but it's for SPARC, not x86 - couldn't find a download for x86.
    Thanks!

I'm not sure if there was some sort of corruption, but I eventually resolved the issue by removing and readding the printing-related packages from the CD:
    SUNWpcr
    SUNWpcu
    SUNWpsr
    SUNWpsu
    SUNWpsf
    SUNWscplp
    SUNWspman
    SUNWscpu
and then installing a default local virtual printer before the network one:
    # lpadmin -p new-printer -v /dev/term/a -T PS -I postscript..
    # enable new-printer
    # accept new-printer
    # lpstat -t

  • How do I print duplex via AppleScript?

Hello - I am new to applescript and having a bit of difficulty trying to get started. My initial goal is fairly straightforward: each day (via an iCal action) download a specific URL and print it. Specifically, it's my daily newspaper and I'd like it waiting on the printer in the morning.
Most things worked very well via Automator, but I can't specify print options going that route (at least as far as I know). So, it my first good reason to learn AppleScript. However, I've perused quite a few sites and searched this forum, but can't figure out how to specify printer options like two sided printing.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
Not sure if you need this, but the printer type is a canon ip4300

When you say "Adobe", do you mean Acrobat or Reader (for PDFs), or one of Adobe's many other programs?
Usually, the option to print duplex is part of the print driver, and should appear in the print dialog regardless of the application.
Some apps have their own front to the print dialog, but you should still be able to get the rest of it.
The orientation is usually controlled by specifying Long Edge or Short Edge.

  • Duplexer no longer an option in print screen - hp officejet pro 8100

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8100 that came with a duplexer. Up until today, the duplexer has worked. I don't technically know that it's not working. But when I open up the print screen in open office, adobe, or any other program, it no longer gives me the option to print double sided. I have no idea what to do and there are no tutorials that explain how to correct this. Any help is appreciated.
Found out after trying to reinstall the printer software that because my OS updated to 8.1 from Windows 7, my printer is no longer compatible with my computer. Is that ridiculous or what? I messaged HP, though I have no warranty so I'm sure they'll deny any product support. That's okay, if need be I'll take my business elsewhere. I shouldn't have to pay for support on a product that they made obsolete on purpose. Businesses used to be all about a quality product. Oh how the times have changed. This is one expensive paper weight.

  • How do I get my new MG5420 to print duplex?

Have new Mac and new MG5420 that is supposed to print duplex but wont.....or cant.  The print boxes from the applications do NOT have any place to choose duplex........

I got to this thread because I had the exact same problem.  I set up my printer wirelessly to connect with an Imac and a Macbook Air, both with Mac OS Mountain Lion.  When I asked it to print, there were only a few options.  There was no duplex available, nor were there color options.  After trying a number of options like reinstalling printer drivers, I finally hit upon a solution.
I connected my printer to my Imac with a usb cable, and it showed up in my system preferences as "Canon MG5400 series -2" I enabled "share this printer on a network."  Immediately on my Imac, when I went to print, all the print options were available including duplex and color options.
I then went back to my laptop, and found the options were still NOT available.  However, I clicked on the "Printer" line at the top of the Print dialogue box, and it let me choose "Canon MG5400 series -2." As soon as I did that, all the advanced print options appeared on the Laptop Print dialogue box as well.
I don't know if this is the only way to fix the problem, but it certainly worked for me.  I know the option that I have repeatedly seen of "Look for a drop-down menu with the heading of either "Layout," "Copies and Pages," or the name of the application you are printing from.  Change this to 'Duplex Printing & Margin'" simply does not work, as the "Duplex Printing & Margin, just did not appear.
I hope this works for you as well.

  • InDesign CS5 Won't Print Duplex

    Hi,
I have InDesign CS5 and a Laserjet 2605DN printer. I printed duplex pages using InDesign with no problem on my old computer (Windows Vista) but now that I have another computer with Windows 8, I not able to print duplex.
There's no two-sided option available in InDesign's print dialogue. I have to choose "Setup," where a popup states, "If the desired print setting is available in InDesign's print dialogue box, please set it there to avoid printing conflicts."
I can print duplex from Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word... just not InDesign. I've searched for solutions, but haven't found anything related to InDesign. I'm hoping someone here can offer some help.
I don't understand why InDesign wouldn't have a duplex option available in its print dialogue box like other programs do.
    Help, please...
    Thank you.

Okay, I read through a couple of "More Like This" posts mentioned on the right-hand side of this forum and one post mentioned setting the paper size as "Defined by Driver." When I checked my setting, I saw it was already showing "Defined by Driver." So, I changed it to "Letter." And that solved the problem; I'm able to print duplex now, thankfully. I hadn't even noticed the paper size wasn't showing letter to begin with.
Hopefully this might be of help to someone else now.

  • HP Pro 200 M276nw Color Printer Duplex printing with Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10

So, I have been trying to use the duplex printing feature with my Mac. However, I havne't been able to figure it out. I see the option for manual duplex printing, but the actual duplex printing feature is not working.
    Any advice?

    Hi @joshcooley09 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues duplexing from Yosemite. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Did you download and install the latest software for Yosemite for the printer?
HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color M276 Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet M276)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Now try and print two sided.
On the File menu, click the Print option.
Open the Finishing menu, and click the Manual Duplex tab or open the Manual Duplex menu.
Click the Manual Duplex box and select a binding option.
Click the Print button. Follow the instructions in the pop-up window that appears on the computer screen before replacing the output stack in Tray 1 for printing the second half.
If the issue persists, connect the printer to the Mac by a USB cable and test the printer. Just to rule out a network issue, if the printer is networked.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Setting options in "Printer" section using Applescript InDesign CS

How can i set define supplementary options found in the "Printer" section of the InDesign dialog box in a print preset using Applescript?
I would like my script to set duplex option with the proper binding, according to the page orientation.
When creating print presets manually, these extra options are stored in the print preset, but I can't find how to access them thru Applescript.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Shane,
Thanks for your reply, but it is not yet clear to me.
I know you can set some print properties in the Apple Print event, such as copies, collating, target printer ...but how can I adress the printer-specific options, such as duplex printing? Could you give me a sample line of code?
And next step, how can I include this "Apple -print" setting in an InDesign Print preset using Applescript? I suppose I have to set the apple printer prefs before creating the InDesign preset. Right?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

  • Cannot print duplex from Preview

When I use my Epson Stylus Photo RX680 to print a document in Pages, I can use the duplex setting to print on both sides of the paper; when I print a document from Preview, the duplex setting is unavailable—grayed out. I've tried opening a PDF in Acrobat Reader, but that has almost no flexibility in print settings, thus no duplex setting.
How can I print a PDF on both sides?

I don't have an Epson RX680 and regrettably am not familiar with that printer, but let me ask you a couple of clarifying questions that, if it doesn't solve your issue outright, will hopefully provide some additional info for other pro bono helpers here to guide their troubleshooting suggestions.
    1. In the print dialog box that presents the printer pulldown menu and presets pulldown menu, there is a button to the right of the printer pull-down with either a ▲ or a ▼ symbol. If it is ▼, click on that button to expand the print dialog box to reveal additional print dialog box configuration options.
    2. Underneath the newly revealed "Orientation" buttons, there is another pulldown menu that, at least on mine right now, has "Preview" selected. When you activate that pulldown menu, do you have a "Layout" choice? Can you select it or is it grayed out?
    3. If you can select that, some additional pull-down menus will be revealed, one of which is "Two-Sided." Choices within there, at least for me, are off, long-edge binding, and short-edge binding. Do you have those options and can you select any of them other than "off" or are those options grayed out?
    4. If you can get that far, then you should be able to click on the print button, in order to print duplex from your duplex-capable printer.

  • Printing duplex (recto-verso)

Printing menu does not offert the selection for recto verso. If the printer (HP CP2025) is duplex by default, it prints duplex; if the default is single side it prints that way. How can I select this option from the printing menu? Thanks

Here's an educated guess.  I'm not familiar with your specific printer, but I would try this:
When you prepare to print something, you should see a menu like this:
Click the button that says "Safari" in this illustration and see if it says "Output Settings" down below.  My guess is you'll be able to choose Recto Verso down there.

  • Why does the option to print front to back only appear randomly?

Have only seen the option to print back to front offered once or twice - why isn't it always there?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?
What are your settings for paper type?  Duplex printing is not compatible with photo paper, transparency media or when printing full bleed (edge to edge).
What program are you printing from?  Some programs remember their own printer settings regardless of default settings in the system.

  • Pixma MP500 no longer prints duplex

My venerable Canon Pixma 500 has stopped printing duplex since Snow Leopard, the print driver tells me it is 10.30.3.0 which way more advanced than the drivers on the Canon site which were posted in 2009, and I cannot figure out how to tell either what the latest drivers are or where to get them. There are some sites that want to scan my machine and tell me what drivers I have - which is not going to happen as I can easily tell what they are, but other than these questionable offers, I cannot figure out how to tell if it is a printer problem, a driver problem, a Snow Leopard problem or what! The thing works fine other than this and the scanner works without problems as well. I need to have the duplex feature working so perhaps it is new printer time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks - Lawrence

The Canon v10.30.3.0 driver suite provided by Canon to Apple and which is the default version for the [Canon Driver Update v2.3|http://support.apple.com/downloads/CanonPrinter_Drivers_for_Mac_OS_X_v106] provided via Apple's Software Update, has a menu called Duplex Printing & Margin for performing two-sided printing. If you select to print with the print dialog expanded (you may have to click the triangle next to the printer name to see the expanded dialog) you should have several menus provided by this v10.30 driver, such as Quality & Media, Color Options, Borderless Printing and Duplex Printing & Margin. Within the Duplex Printing & Margin menu you have the setting 'Automatic Duplex Printing'. Enable this and you should now be able to print two sided.

  • Cannot print duplex w/ tiger

I have a new G5 running OSX V10.4.6. My printer is an HP laserjet 5500dtn with duplex capability, which no longer works with my new machine. Duplex option does not appear in print window. Have done printer setup multiple times using both manual and automatic option selection. In all cases, "duplex" is checked in printer setup window, but does not appear as an option when printing in the "copies &pages" pop-up. Have now also installed most recent HP drivers (only a few months old), but still no luck. Also, "rosetta" option (another recommended fix) does not seem to be available in "get info" windows. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Stewart

I looked at the PPD for the LJ 1320 and did find this section:
    *%=================================================
    *% Duplex
    *%=================================================
    *OpenUI *Duplex/Duplex: PickOne
    *OrderDependency: 50 AnySetup *Duplex
    *DefaultDuplex: None
    *Duplex None/Off (1-Sided): "
    <</Duplex false>> setpagedevice"
    *End
*Duplex DuplexNoTumble/Flip on Long Edge (Standard): "
    <</Duplex true /Tumble false>> setpagedevice"
    *End
*Duplex DuplexTumble/Flip on Short Edge: "
    <</Duplex true /Tumble true>> setpagedevice"
    *End
    *?Duplex: "
    save
    currentpagedevice /Duplex known
    false ne
    { currentpagedevice /Duplex get
    { currentpagedevice /Tumble get
    {(DuplexTumble)}{(DuplexNoTumble)}ifelse
    } { (None)} ifelse
    }{(None)} ifelse = flush
    restore
    *End
    *CloseUI: *Duplex
which indicates that there is something there for duplex printing. This seems to be the corresponding section for my printer, where duplexing works just fine:
    *OpenUI *Duplex/Duplex: PickOne
    *OrderDependency: 50 AnySetup *Duplex
    *DefaultDuplex: None
    *Duplex None/Off: "<</Duplex false>>setpagedevice"
    *Duplex DuplexNoTumble/Long Edge: "<</Duplex true /Tumble false>>setpagedevice"
    *Duplex DuplexTumble/Short Edge: "<</Duplex true /Tumble true>>setpagedevice"
    *?Duplex: "
    save
    currentpagedevice /Duplex get
    {currentpagedevice /Tumble get
    {(DuplexTumble)}{(DuplexNoTumble)}ifelse
    }{(None)}ifelse = flush
    restore
    *End
    *CloseUI: *Duplex
It seems to be pretty similar. Now with my printer, the setup utility can detect that the duplex device is present, but that may not be the case for yours, in which case you need to set it as an installable option, either through the Printer Setup Utility, or through the CUPS system, http://127.0.0.1:631/printers where you click on Configure Printer, type in a short administrator name (an oxymoron in my case!) and password, and then you will be able to tell the system that duplex is installed.
Of course, that still would not mean that HP has not gotten the PPD wrong, which has happened in the past. I remember I had a problem with my 6MP, which I reported and actually got a call back from someone who had one on his desk and could repeat the problem.

  • Cannot enable option to print double sides

When given the printing options in Apple Pages before pressing "print," the option to print 2-sided is set as off and I cannot change the option to print 2-sides.
To be more exact, in Pages, I go to file-print-layout-and the two-sided option is grey and unclickable.
I had to manually print one side and print the other side seperately but I would rather do it all at once.

    Hi,
Do you see the option to perform manual duplexing but not being prompted to reload the printed sheets or may you do't see any such option anymore?
If you found the option but the device attention light bliks without showing any prompt on your Mac, reload the printed sheets faced down, then open and close the top cartridge access door to resume the 2nd side printing.
    Hope that may help,
    Shlomi
