No option to "Save & Exit" in Firefox 4.0.1

I was using Firefox 3.x , where i could save the opened tabs for my next time use. But after updating this to 4.0.1, i cnt get this option. If i close it jus gives me waning that tabs are open, n no option to "Save & Exit" plz suggest me how can i do it..

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
* [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows or otherwise have problems with restoring tabs.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />

Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

  • Firefox won't open to do Reset-so uninstalled-no option to save profile!

Was getting error code of "can't load XPCOM ".
I thought it might be related to Norton since it had had problems twice in two weeks. Their tech support tried to help, but thinks it is a Firefox problem that was blocking Norton from being able to run. They were able to get Norton running, but not Firefox.
Since I couldn't open Firefox, I read that I should uninstall it. Did that. There was NO OPTION to "Save my Profile".
LEADING UP TO THIS - BACKGROUND PROBLEMS:
    1. Was having "enterprise 1.1 seeming to throw annoying ad coupons on to my webpages. Saw this was a Firefox extension, so deleted it there, and in my Programs.
    2. Was having an unwanted computer scanner program, which was bundled in with a software I ordered, kept trying to run scans. I didn't want that software in with the one I requested, but even though I checked off that I didn't want it, it installed anyway! I uninstalled that.
    3. Then had an error request asking for a newer version of Java - I hadn't updated because I had been told that Java conflicts with Firefox).
    A. Deleted old Java files from Programs.
    B. Tried to download an install new Java. It wouldn't install correctly - error code 1601.
    4. In the middle of all this Thursday (two days ago) MS Windows decided to do a 21 "windows update" thing - 21!!!! Took almost an hour.
    TROUBLESHOOTING ----
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TODAY: Norton tech support was able to run remote of Norton Power Eraser - and determined I DO NOT have a virus, or anything like that. (Good news!) Norton now is up and protecting computer again. He also kept running into MS popup messages saying that the " MS Installer is not working. "
STILL NOT WORKING: Firefox wasn't able to work - so deleted per Mozilla instructions.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Any way to retrieve my FIrefox Profile - - like do a system restore to like a month ago or something?
    2. What is this XP COM - and can I get it back if I need it? (is it needed?)
    3. Is XP COM related to the MS Installer somehow?
I'm going to see if I can install FireFox now. But is there a way to get my Profile back ???? Will reinstalling Firefox fix this XPCOM thing - or is that something on my computer?
    Thanks.

You will likely have to delete the Firefox program folder to recover from this XPCOM issue.
You can uninstall your current Firefox version to avoid issues with the registry.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

  • When closing firefox 4.0 with multiple tabs open, i wish to save this setup when i reopen firefox. the option to save my setup is now not in the prompt. only that i'm closing multiple tabs. how do i do this?

in the older version of firefox, you were prompted when you were closing multiple tabs. but you were also given the option of saving the current setup so that when you reopened firefox, this current setup would reopen also. how do i make this happen with firefox 4.0?since i updated to firefox 4.0, there is no obtion given to save my current setup.

You can change Firefox preferences so that you also get the option to save the current tabs when quiting:<BR><BR>
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message about being careful and you will see a list of settings.
    # Type '''browser.showQuitWarning''' into the ''Filter'' box at the top.
    # If its value is ''false'', double-click on it to change it to ''true''.

  • In the previous version of Firefox I could close the window and still have my tabs intact when I reopened it. Why does FF 4 closes all tabs and doesn't give me an option to save them? (And if it does, where do I change the setting?)

In the previous version of Firefox, before closing a window with tabs still open, it asked if I would like to "save and close", "close all tabs" or "cancel" the operation. FF4 will just alert me that I am closing those tabs and ask me is I want to continue, without giving the option to save my research for a later use.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />

  • If I exit from Firefox "Save Tabs" did not appear.WindosXP.Firefox 3.5.7

For better using I uninstall Firefox 3.5 and install Firefox 4.0.1. It often crush and I uninstall Firefox 4.0.1 and install Firefox 3.5.7. Now when I exit from Firefox, window "Save Tabs" do not appear. It is unpleasant for me.
    Thank you.

Just for clarification, the about:config browser.showQuitWarning true no longer brings up a dialog ever, which it used to do in closing an individual window, as well as closing the Firefox Application.

  • Why my Firefox v6.02 browser always open *.csv (comma delimited) file in another tab rather than downloading a file? I do not have right click option to save this file.

My Firefox v6.02 browser always open *.csv (comma delimited) file in another tab rather than downloading a file? I do not have right click option to save this file. My OP is windows XP sp2.

    Hi mha007,
    Go to this site "http://www.nseindia.com/content/indices/ind_histvalues.htm"
Select any Index type and from dates select just one day or any number of days. Click "Get Details" button. This will open tabular data on loaded page (with link CSV file link at bottom).
When I click this link, it opens CSV file in new tab (in Firefox browser) and does not open download window (just as in case of other file formats like *.zip, *.rar or *.xls).
Right-click of link does not give "save as" or "save file" option.
Firefox is my preferred and default browser.
    ========
surprisingly, When I do same thing in IE6 browser, data-table page shows 2 options below table, i.e. (1) download file (2) open file.

  • Can't pdf save documents from Firefox 6.0.2

I have windows XP sp3 + all updates, Firefox 6.0.2 and Adobe Reader X (10.1.0).
When I download a document from the web and use the Adobe Reader options to save the document to disk I get the following error message.
"The Disk you were saving to or the Disk used for Temporary files is  full.  Free some space on this disk and try again, or save to a  different disk."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled but get same result. My other PC's have same setup and work okay.
If I open a document with Adove Reader and save as it works, so it seem to be associated with the Firefox plugin.

    Thanks to Bernd and Allan
"Save as" from within the browser is ok. However it is not the most convenient method.
I've deinstalled Adobe Reader X and deleted all the remaining files from a previous version (8) which had obviously not been cleared correctly, and cleaned the hard disk including registry keys with CCleaner. Then I've reinstalled Adobe Reader X. The problem remains
I understand that there are several problems with Acrobat Reader X in all sorts of browsers. Saving is one of them, but also opening pdf-files from within a browser may cause problems (I had this from time to time). See also the following threads in this forum:
    - thomas.croonen "can't save PDF from Internet Explorer embedded Adobe Reader", first posted on March 6, discussion still active
    - fonduekid "Adobe Reader X - Firefox integration Problem", first posted on November 23, 2010, dito
Thus I wonder whether Acrobat has planned the fixing of these problems (even for old Windows systems like XP) or whether we have to cope with the inconveniences. And I am surprised that there is no official answer by Acrobat to this obviously quite common problem.

How can i open files, instead of having them just save.

hello, gmail should be one of the predefined actions for the mailto-protocol.
does it shop up when you try the following?:
go to ''firefox > help > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there rename/delete the file named '''mimetypes.rdf''' - it will be regenerated again the next time you launch the browser.

  • When I try to save an image firefox is automatically removing any image filetype (.jpg .png .bmp etc) and replacing it with .html

Every time I try to save an image by right clicking and going save image as firefox is changing the filetype to .html
It does it for every website and every image regardless of its file type. Even if you go to the direct link for the image and try to save it, it will save it as "image.htm" rather than "image.jpg" as it shows the file to be in the address bar.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

In older version, when I looked at page with photos, when I put cursor over picture, a box would appear offerring options like save, etc. With 5 doesn't appear. How do I save particular photos as jpg,

Doesn't work. Doesn't save the picture as a jpg file. It was so simple before. I reopened my old version of firefox, but something's happened and the option box doesn't appear on that either. I want to be able as I was before to choose a picture on a page, name it, and save it as a jpg to a folder. And when I open it, I want it to open in preview, not go to the internet.

  • When I close FF 3.6.22 I am not given the option to save multiple tabs.

I run FF both at home and at work. I am still running 3.6.2x in both places because I've not been happy with the later versions. At work this morning, FF restarted and updated to 3.6.22. When I went to close FF at the end of the day, with my usual 5 tabs open, I was not given the option to save my tabs. This is one of the main reasons that I uninstalled 4, and have not installed anything else. This is an extremely important feature for me and I would like to know how to recover this ability.

See item #31 [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#tabslost Restoring tabs from a lost session] (#tabslost)

You can make '''Firefox 6.0.2''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

    Hi Xperts,
is there any possibility in the Web Interface Builder to eliminate the option to save after a function was ended with an error-message?

The Firefox 4+ versions automatically save your session when you close Firefox. If you want to restore your previous session the next time you open Firefox, use the Restore Previous Session button on the default about:home homepage or in the History menu.

  • Can i copy "setup" (windows 8.1, office 13) to usb and transfer to XP where internet 8 has crashed browser. I am not getting option to save setup

I am trying to copy firefox to USB from my laptop and install on desktop XP as per support forum: Windows updated then crashed internet explore 8 on XP and now I have no internet connection only on that computer (error message says unplugged).. I have windows 8.1 office 13 on my laptop. I am not getting the option to save/ run firefox on the laptop, just automatic download. Should I uninstall and then reinstall? Or maybe I cant transfer to XP in any event. Any advice for non techie would be much appreciated. I've spent quite a lot of hours on this.

appreciate your assistance, but your replies are a little peremptory to say the least. I copied the set up to my USB on Windows 8 laptop and then transferred to XP desktop (as per previous forum entry). If I had the internet on XP, I would have downloaded and installed that way. As it turns out, after I re-rebooted my broadband hub and reopened moxilla, I got the internet back, so evidently a combination of internet explorer 8 update issues which from previous research, had stopped the computer reading the hub address. All up and working now.
