No option to "Select Destination" while reinstalling...

Greetings!
My husband bought me a new iMac for Valentine's Day, and when I hooked it up to my old eMac I was lucky enough to get all of the data migrated, but it somehow lobotomized the eMac. I'm trying to reinstall the original disks (10.3.4), but when I get to "Select Destination" on the install menu, it doesn't give me anything to select from, nor do I get the "Options..." button highlighted for selection.
I tried doing a "Reinstall" from the Disk Utility and that won't give me a destination either. I've done both over and over -- and expected a different result. We all know what that means.
Would appreciate any advice the Mac experts can give.

Sorry, I just got online and may have missed your window of opportunity.
Boot from the install disk and launch Disk Utility in the Installer menu.
In the sidebar on the left, do you see the Hard Disk Drive (manufacturer ID listed)? Is there an volume beneath it indented to the right? It is usually Macintosh HD.
If the HDD (manufacturer ID) does not show up, the you have no internal HD, or one that is not serviceable. If the Manufacturer ID shows up, but no volume indented under it, then your HD need formatting. I will post directions for formatting just in case.
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.
If you successfully format the HD you are ready to install. Here are directions.
Installation Process
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Open Installer and begin installation.
• Select installation option
• Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
• Proceed with installation.
• After installation computer will restart for setup.
• After setup, reboot computer.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.
• Connect to Internet.
• Download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update (Panther)
Computer will restart.
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
• Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
• Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Reinstalling OS X 10.4.6-- Not Allowing Me to "Select Destination"

    Hi,
My G4 PowerBook (Titanium) recently crashed. Started making all sorts or grinding sounds. I finally got the install disk to get recognized after several time trying to restart the Mac and hold "C".
I went through the begining install promts ie ("Introduction", "Read-me", "Licsensing") but when it got to "Select Destination" section of the install it did not give me any options it was just a blank box, no folders or little drive icons. Even at this point the computer was still making horrible sounds. I suspected the HD was fried.
I replaced the HD and again tried to reboot to reinstall the OS X 10.4.6 and I am running into the same issue when I get to the "Select Destination" section. It does not give me any selection to choose from. I even tried an early OS version (Jaguar I believe) and ran into the same issue
(The grinding and aweful sounds are no longer occuring though... suppose that is the new HD)
If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
    (Thanks in advance)

The first time this happened, it was because your hard drive had died. Now that you have a new drive, it's happening because you haven't partitioned and formatted the new hard drive yet. If the drive isn't partitioned and formatted correctly, the Installer doesn't see it as a viable place to install an OS.
Start up from the Installer DVD, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select your drive in the left pane of DU, and set it up as a single volume (partition) using the Apple Partition Map scheme. Then format the volume with the Mac OS Extended format and quit Disk Utility. The Installer will now be happy to install Tiger on it for you.

LG G2 When I select share while in the gallery, facebook doesn't come up as an option.  Is there something I need to set up differently?

Did you go to the Playstore and download the Facebook app? Try that and see if that works.
I don't use FB, but I read somewhere other people having problems with sharing in KK as well. You could try a download like "Andmade share" to see if that works for you if the previous idea doesn't.

While creating an account from my iPad there is no option for selecting none in the payment options. It states I have to give my credit card details. What's the procedure to open a free account?

It's in the article.  You must first sign-out your current account, then go to App store to purchase a Free App.  It will ask you to either Sign in or create a new AppleID.  That's when you start creating a new AppleaID and NONE will be available as a payment option.

    Hi sanatankumarsahu,
You can select which SIM will be used for outgoing calls and outgoing messages by going into '''Settings''' > '''SIM Manager''' and then selecting your desired preferences for '''Outgoing calls''' and '''Outgoing messages'''.
Please let us know if you gave any other questions about your Firefox OS device.

  • HT2534 there is no option of selecting "NONE" in payment method while creating apple ID. help please

the procedure that has explained at apple support for creating an apple ID without providing credit card information is invalid because when i followed this procedure i did not found the option to select "NONE" in payment method. Can anybody please help? As i don't have a credit card number then what is the other way to create an id to download free apps

What country are you in, and you followed the instructions on that page exactly ? I've just tried it and it worked ok for me for creating a new account e.g. using my computer's iTunes I logged out of my existing account and found a free app in the store and clicked on its free 'price' :
and then clicked on 'create Apple id' on the popup :
I then agreed to the terms, filled in my details, and got 'none' as an option on the payments screen :
Are they the steps that you used ?

  • Option to select/deselect "SYNC" function no longer exists on Windows 7

iTunes, version 9 (64 bit) no longer has an option to select/deselect "SYNC." I can choose to manually sync & if I REINSTALL iTunes, it RESETS to AUTOMATICALLY SYNC, but the option to choose AUTO-SYNC mode still does not appear.
In the past, this function was available. SYNC funtions fine, but this feature is no longer available.

This is resolved. Probably obvious for most but coming from windows 7 I didn't know. For anyone who finds this on a search if you will go to windows update and on the left select recovery, then under advanced setup click on restart now. When this menu
finally loads you will have the option to change this here. Somehow mine was set from a 30 second menu to 0. I didn't change it or if I did I don't remember it. Any, Cheers!

  • Latest Value - Select Option - At Selection Value help

    Hi,
I need the current values entered in the Select Option of the Selection Screen while generating the Value Help.
There are two selection option fields in the Selection Screen, Selopt1 and Selopt2, to generate the Value help of Selopt2 i need the latest values of the Selopt1, the function module dynp_read_values does not return all the values of the selectop option Selopt1 it returns only the first row of selopt1-high and selopt1-low, the function module RS_REFRESH_FROM_SELECTOPTIONS does not return the current values entered in the selection screen, is there any way to retrive the latest values of the select option in the event At Selection Screen on Value Request.
    regards
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
When you go for f4 help on selopt2, you can use following code to get the current value of selopt1,
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST
    FOR selopt2-high.
select * from bkpf into table it_bkpf where
    BKTXT in selopt1[].
      CALL FUNCTION 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST'
        EXPORTING
          retfield    = 'BKTXT'
          dynpprog    = sy-repid
          dynpnr      = sy-dynnr
          dynprofield = 'Invoice Id'
          value_org   = 'S'
        TABLES
          value_tab   = it_bkpf .
      IF sy-subrc <> 0.
        " do nothing.
      ENDIF.
In selection screen, you can directly fetch the value of selection options or parameters by selopt1 or selopt2 (in your case by using AT Selection Screen for value request).
    Reply for further doubts,
    Please reward if useful.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Chart Components : Option to select a item for drill down by Label name

    Hi
Currently for all Chart components in Xcelsius in Drill down mode we do not have the option to insert the X Axis Label values by selecting the Label on the X- Axis. It is made mandatory that we should click on any of the Series and that too we get only Position or Value but not Label.
Why should some one necessarily click on a particular series to drill down. Why cant he drill down by just clicking on x axis label. This seems to be a general requirement but I did not find this option. Am I missing something?
I want to check whether if we will do have the option to select the label name by just clicking on the X-axis labels.
Please note: I know the other alternatives of getting the label by enabling a series and inserting the position and using some label based menu to derive the Label.
    Regards
    Gangadhar

    hi
    then do like this
dont use drill down option for that.
take push buttons and one combo box.
place those pushbuttons into X-Axis Labels and transparent them.
combobox is used for dynamic Data Retrival.
in ComboBox Component behavior properties you have option Selected Item(Type and Item) in that item should be map to Pushbutton Destination cell.
you will get data as per your Requirement(Like you can drill down from X-axis Labels).

  • Trouble while reinstalling subscriber

I am reinstalling a CCM cluster in test setup running CCM 4.02a es30.1
I first installed Publisher alongwith Windows. Then upgraded to es30.1 and also restored the data using backup of my production system. This all went smooth.
Now when I am trying to install suscriber, I am facing an issue. I reinstall windows successfully. After starting CCM installation, it collects all the dat like passwords etc and then asks for disk 2. After inserting disk 2 it installs Cisco Directory. Once this step is completed next it goes to installing callmanager. Here the process suddenly throws an error message stating that there was some fatal error and application could not be installed. After this the installation rolls back. This same thing happened every time I tried to install suscriber. I have tested following things
    1. Removed es 30.1 So the system was running only 4.02a. Still the same issue occurred while installing suscriber.
    2. Since I have restored backup, it was already cotaining the configuration of the subscriber server I was installing. Removed the suscriber server (to be installed) from all CCM groups etc and deleted the CCM Subscriber as well as server entry from the publisher. Still the same issue.
    3. Tried reinstalling this subscriber right from the scratch multiple times.
I have attached log of the process alongwith.
Any help is greatly appreciated.....as usual :)
    Best Regards,
    Anand P. Diwakar

    Thanks for the help Greg,
ust want to know a few things about your suggestions
    1. You mean that while reinstalling OS I should use "recover from backup" instead of saying new installation. Am I right here. I am not sure what exactly is cluster ID. Can you educate me a little about that.
    2. Second option I am trying right now :)
But this is not exactly how it should be. I am just wondering say if I have to add some new subscriber, I cannot rebuild the pub for that. So I am trying to figure out the exact cause why is this happening. Besides I have done this stuff with 4.1.3 for multiple times and it went all smooth, so just wondering what could be the issue here.
    3. The last option is exactly what I did. I restored the pub completely and then I started reinstalling sub. But while installing CCM application it just crashes and rolls back entire process.
So as of now I am moving ahead with option 2. Will update you how it goes

Hello, I was trying to upgrade my iTunes for windows 7 PC, but because of invalid signature error I removed iTunes as well as all apple related applications. While reinstalling it , When I click link to install iTunes it immediately says '' thank you for downloading iTunes'' but I don't find it in my system.
I have tried all suggested option to solve it but all in vain. Please help me to get rid of this problem

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • How to vertical select a text in iWord.  Like we do in Mac version of MS Word by Command Option [and selecting]

How to vertical select a text in iWord.  Like we do in Mac version of MS Word by Command Option [and selecting]

    m0thr4 wrote:
I want to make sure all text in my document is a particular font (at least), but Cmd+a only selects any text that is not in a table. There seems to be no way to include text in tables, or even a way to change the format of all text in a particular table (MS Word allows the whole table to be highlighted for example).
A double click in a cell selects it so you may enter what you wish in it.
Select the cell A1 then, pressing the shift key, click in the right-bottom cell.
Doing that you will get every table's cells selected which gives the ability to apply global attributes.
I've searched the built-in help and found "To select all text in a document, choose Edit > Select All." This does not work as tables are excluded from this selection. If tried some of the other suggestions, such as holding down shift while selecting text in tables, but as soon as I get to the end of the text in one cell, the selection disappears.
My guess is that some words are missing in the Help. Select All selects all the text … of the text layer.
We must apply the settings to the text layer, to each text box, to each table.
Of course, you may _Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'09

  • Cannot Install: 'Select Destination' is BLANK

I load up the leopard installation, and after it I accept the license agreement; I get to a screen that says 'Select Destination' to install leopard. What's supposed to appear are the hard drives I want to install OS X on. However, in the selection box is NOTHING / BLANK. I have no volumes to select!
    Anyone know what's going on?
I have a Macbook Pro OS X Tiger.
My HD has GUID partition scheme.
I repaired the HD through the Tiger Disk Utility, but still doesn't work.
    HELP!!

When installing Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, destination volumes may not appear in the installation window for a while, even though the volumes are visible while started from Mac OS X 10.4 or in Disk Utility.
    Products affected
    Mac OS X 10.5
    Solution
Wait a few minutes for the volume(s) to appear.
The Mac OS X 10.5 installer window does not show hard drives that are still being checked in the background, and there is no status indicator regarding this. The larger the disk volume, the longer it may take for this to complete. After the disk check has finished, the drive(s) will appear and be available for installation.
    Advanced: fsck status check
Advanced users who want to check fsck status can follow these steps:
Open Terminal from the Utilities menu.
    Execute this command:
    ps auxww | grep fsck

  • Drag Select Inside Points With The Direct Selection Tool While Above An Object?

I'm trying to modify a path in InDesign CS5 (Fig. 2), as it is now I have to select each point individually. Becasue while you're zoomed in (Fig. 1), you can't drag and select the points. When you attempt to do that, you end up dragging the whole image.
Is there a way to drag select inside points with the direct selection tool while your directly above the image with the paths you want to select?
    Fig. 1
    Fig. 2

    FAIL #1:
No. When you copy paste the Cliiping Path [NOT the frame] into Illustrator, then alter the path and paste back into Indesign, it pastes it back as a FRAME, NOT a CLIPPING PATH.
    FAIL #2:
Why do people comment on this stuff without first testing what they are suggesting?
What you suggested doesn't work or even make sense.
Apprently in InDesign, you can't have a CLIPPING PATH without an IMAGE there to begin with. When a FRAME OBJECT contains an IMAGE the option to convert the object to an UNNASSIGNED OBJECT is greyed-out, as in UNSELECTABLE, as in NOT POSSIBLE, which is another way of saying IMPOSSIBLE, which in most circles pertains to MAJOR FAILAGE.
When you CUT [hold command then press X] the CLIPPING PATH, from the FRAME/OBJECT you can then unassign the object, but when you paste the CLIPPING PATH back in, it invariably pastes the IMAGE along with the CLIPPING PATH, and once again the UNASSIGNED OBJECT is simply an ordinary frame with an image, and thus NO LONGER AN UNASSIGNED FRAME.
People like you make life harder dude, seriously.
Again, like some of the folks above, you're confusing a FRAME PATH [that you can alter and create with the pen tool as well] with a CLIPPING PATH. They are NOT the same thing.
Know the difference between the two before you feel inclined to respond.
My kingdom for someone out there with some merit and sense of accountability.
It's like, where do you people work? Are you serious? SMH.
