No outgoing email on ATT 3GS?
God help me but I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS5 and my outgoing email immediately crapped out. I had 2 email accounts set up. 1) my personal POP account @comcast.net and using smtp.comcast.net as outgoing server. I also had my work account, a IMAP account, set up using either the same outgoing server and.or the att server "cwmx.com."
Until the upgrade and opening of an icloud account using my personal comcast account/Apple ID --- both worked fabulously.
Post upgrade, I've deleted the @comcast account - I'm using a Comcast app to send and receive email there. Had it installed before upgrade and since it just duplicated everything, I kept it and deleted the email account. But I've repeatedly set up my IMAP account, with both prevously noted outging servers set up and on, and I cannot SEND email. Receive yes, send, no! Oddly enough I have the same email accounts set up on my ipad2 and it works as it does on my MacBookPro.
I have smtp.comcast.net set as the primary outgoing server and cwmx.com as an "other", When I try to send I get an error message saying the cwmx server is not responding.
I should also mention that I se a ATT signal booster or mini cell here at home so my utgoing calls are made over wifi but I don't know if that makes any difference.
When I attempt to send a email I get the error message - The connection to the outgoing server "cwmx.com" failed.
Incredibly frustrated. Any ideas???
honestly, i really dont know. I would think it supports it as in other people can access eircom email on mobiles....
when i start to setup on iphone it automatically sets up as POP but i have also tried as IMAP and this also does not work.
the settings for incoming mail server automatically fills in when i click save on the first step.
very sorry, i really dont understand any of this .......

Outgoing email problem with Gmail via ATT
I'm posting this on behalf of my mom, who's at her wit's end with her Mail program.
She has AT&T DSL service, and uses Gmail for her mail. Also, she's running 10.5 on a Macbook. We've tried fiddling with things every since she got the system in the spring, but she's consistently had trouble connecting to the Gmail server, especially regarding outgoing email. Most of the time it takes forever for a message to send, if it ever sends at all.
I use Comcast and Gmail and have never had any problems, which leads me to believe that this may have something to do with ATT(/Bellsouth). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!I have same problem with Apple Mail at ATT as ISP. I used the program ATTYahoo!EmailSetup from their website. Now I can rarely send any email, from my work email or from my MobileMe email. I seems like that program messed up the entire Apple Mail client so it can no longer send mail. Emails I try to send just sit the in Outbox. Does anyone have a solution?

ISP requires authentication for outgoing email
On my Samsung Droid, my ISP requires authentication for outgoing email. I don't see this as an option and so all my supposedly sent items are sitting in my Outbox. Anyone else have this issue? My Gmail and Hotmail accounts work just fine. Thx

Outgoing email problem message.
My incoming email works fine but when i reply to send an outgoing email i keep getting the following message with any email i receive.
" cannot send mail. one of the recipient addresses was invalid"
i checked the addresses. everyone is correct and works when sending from my macbook. any suggestions??When I set up my new phone my e-mail provider bellsouth.net was set up for me via Itunes. I had the same problem in which I was able to receive e-mails but not respond to them. Dummy me called att and they got me over to a Iphone expert, or so called expert. He had me go through the standard re setting of all and later told me to delete the account. Once i began to set up the account from scratch it appeared he didnt know "jack" and hung up on me. So know in order for me to get the info back I need to restall all as new set up but still have have problem that I can not send mail. Anyone out there that has set up a bellsouth.net account from the add new account on the phone?

I have a fresh install of OS X Yosemite, Server 4.0.3 installed. I have a/29 subnet of Static IP's, everything works well except outgoing email. DNS entries are set and propagation time allowed for. Clients can connect and receive from within the server. I.E. one act to another. The can also receive from the outside world. just cannot send to the outside world..
Relay issue?? my ISP does not require it, however? ..... any ideas would be greatly appreciated... Thank you i advance. (I am familiar with servers. just new to OS X Servers.... Previous experience with Linux and Unix based systems.)Turns out that configuration files generated by iPhone Configuration Utility 2.1 are not necessarily compatible with iPhone4 -- even when they're compatible with iOS4 on 3GS and 3G.

Trouble setting up email on iphone 3GS
I'm trying to connect my school email account with my iphone so that I'll know when I get new emails. So far I've been unsuccessful. This is what I've done so far:
Settings->mail,contacts,calendars->add account->
Then first I clicked microsoft exchange, and filled in the info but nothing happened.
After that didn't work I clicked 'Other' after clicking add account and filled in the info there but again nothing happened and the account was not added.
My school email says Microsoft Exchange in the address bar but at the top of the page it says Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. Here is a link:
https://cas.uno.edu/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://cas.uno.edu/owa/&reason=0
I have no idea if I should choose Microsoft exchange or Other when trying to add an account or what to put as the outgoing/ingoing mail server.
I don't know if any of this makes any sense but if it does I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer.I have a similar problem with my son's school email on his 3GS. His school has given him limited instructions.
All they say is:
You must connect with a secure connection or SSL to access GEM.
Active Sync Devices: iPhone, Droid, Windows Mobile, Palm, etc
* gem.jsu.edu (select secure port 443)
and they advise if we still have problems, to contact our provider.
I assume that the gem.jsu.edu is for incoming, but not sure if it should be IMAP or POP. What is the outgoing? Is it the same? Is it the outgoing that should be port 443? -

I cannot connect to my outgoing email server on my macBook pro, yet I can, for the same email account on my iPad. Also I can send emails from the other email account I have on my MacBook...really confused can anyone help?
Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts -
When sending email from the Mail App or through other Apps on my iPad, my default From: address will change when I enter a To: address. This sometimes leads me to send the email from the wrong outgoing email account. It is frustrating and poor design, especially since I had already checked the From: address.
iPad 4 running iOS 8.1.33rd party email addresses have to be deleted on every synmced mac product, although I have 1and1.co.uk and my imac updatetes the mails in that account from mac mail.
Yahoo etc is a 2 step deleting process but good to get your emails pushed when on the go.

How do I change the photo of myself that is being placed on my outgoing emails?
I just realized that Safari is attaching a test photo of me to each of my outgoing email, mostly job applications. I'm sitting there with morning hair, a t-shirt and 5 oclock shadow. I searched everywhere looking for a way to either change or remove the image but to no avail. Can someone help me with this problem... Budman65
dominic is correct in saying, "The photo image in the mail composing window will not be sent along with the message." The only way anyone recieving your mail would have that picture is if they had that picture of you in their Contacts, which is highly unlikely.
But if you send a test to yourself, you will see it. The test must be sent to someone else. -

How to use Apple Mail to send outgoing emails only?
Hello,
I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for elsewhere on the interwebs.
I want to be able to set up the Apple Mail app on my Mac to send outgoing emails only from my Gmail account. I use the Gmail website and my iPhone for sending/receiving emails and I don't want or have a need for all of my Gmail emails to be downloaded into the Apple Mail app or for new emails to appear in the Mail app as they come in.
I just want to be able to send outgoing emails from the app so that I can send photos directly from iPhoto using the Email button. Any help is greatly appreciated!Great news, thanks!

How can I NOT have my outgoing emails accumulate on gmail?
I'm using Thunderbird with gmail via POP3, not IMAP. I want to just grab the emails, download them to my PC, and delete them from gmail. That part works great. But with both TB and my previous Outlook 2000, my outgoing emails end up staying on the gmail server. I see no control in TB nor on the gmail site to say "delete outgoing emails after sending" like is done when receiving.
Is this just the nature of email systems?
So every couple months I log onto gmail manually, and delete all of them. I just don't like my emails being available to a hacker.
Are there any settings to accomplish this?
Thanks. You're right, for a POP account, the option "Place a Copy in:" in TB, under Account Settings/Copies and Folders would only enable/disable local copies to the Sent folder. If you want local copies, leave it checked.
To control the setting for copies to the Sent folder on the server, login to your Gmail account via browser, and look for an option to disable it there.
The 'Other' option in TB can be used to chose another account's Sent folder, e.g. underneath 'Local Folders'. -

How can I add a privacy statement to my outgoing emails, below my signature?
I'm a therapist and need to have a privacy statement/disclaimer below my signature on my outgoing emails...something like the following:
STATEMENT OF CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVILEGE
The contents of this e-mail (including its attachments) are intended for the exclusive use of the addressee(s) and may contain confidential or privileged information. Any other distribution, copying or disclosure is strictly prohibited. Email is not a secure medium of communication and should not be used for transmitting private and confidential information.
How do I add this?? thanks, KarenYou can set up multiple signatures and select the appropriate one. Or use stationery where the signature and disclaimer are part of the template document. Or use a text clippings tool to insert ready-to-go frequently used snippets such as your disclaimer text. Many users make use of such a tool in lieu of a prepared signature.
