No outgoing mail but receives mail

I have recently bought an iphone and synced it to my .mac on my imac at home.
I use Be as my ISP but I can never seen to join that wireless network - even with the correct password (I have read other threads to say iphone is not compatible with all ISP's ??)
Anyway, when on edge I can receive mail but not send - it comes up with an error message about the smtp.bethere.co server not connecting.
I looked in iphone settings and it has my mac account details (from my imac at home)but does not show outgoing server details etc (I assume they are the same as my mac account, as it knows bethere is the server).
Do i need to open up a new account as well and add my smtp.bethere , as I have seen on some other threads and if so why ?

paul thompson,
Why are you not using smtp.mac.com for the outgoing on your .Mac account?
I am not as familiar with the postal system in the UK, as I am in the US. I grew up in the US, and would like to visit the UK someday, but haven't yet. I would assume you have similar drop off boxes for sending real mail as we do in the US. If you don't, my apologies.
In the U.S. we have mailboxes on our houses that can be used to both send and receive mail. When you are on your home internet connection, your ISP would be that mailbox.
However, when you are at work or driving around, and can't reach that mail box you can still drop mail off to be delivered at several different drop off mailboxes, either in your neighborhood or outside the post office building. When you are on EDGE, you can use O2's smtp server like one of those drop off boxes.
When you are at work, or another WiFi connection, they may filter even the O2 one out, and you would have to send messages thorugh their mail server. Similar to sending mail to the mail room in an office building. The mail room is your work's mail server.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

  • Can't make outgoing calls but receives fine (I believe it's the ISP)

Hi.A small company were maintaining that uses a uc500 on a dedicated voip line suddenly can't make outgoing calls. This has occured on another two occasions when they were using a different ISP and It was due to them not paying their bill on time. This time we've called the ISP and they Insist everything Is fine on their end and that the company hasn't been disconnected.I can't find anything wrong with the UC.I can ping the ISP gateway.I can ping their SIP server and everything looks fine.I've added two debug files and would appreciate any assistance as my debugging knowledge Is not that great !

Turns out the ISP was receiving calls In G729 and they use G711 Alaw.We didn't change any configuration on our side so I'm not sure what happened.I've set the sip trunk to use g711 alaw via CCA but calls are still going through as g729.I'm not sure what to configure via the cli.I assume It has something to do with transcoding but my telephony cli knowledge Is limited.
Should I change the configuration for Individual dial-peers or Is there some global config. I can enter ?
I added g711alaw to a dial peer and now I can't make any inbound calls either.I removed the g711alaw from the dial peer but It hasn't changed anything.
Running debug ccsip message I receive "error 304 media type(s) unavailable. q.850 cause=65"
I didn't expect such a small change to cause so much havoc.

    Hello,
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • How can the incoming mail section on an iphone5 disappear? I can send messages but cannot receive them. Shouldn't there be an incoming section like the outgoing mail server section?

I Haven't received incoming email for nearly a week now.  I have checked the settings and the only thing that isn't there is the INCOMING MAIL SERVER section.  The outgoing mail server is there and is correct.  How can I get it back so that I can enter the mail server?

    Hi Olivier,
Thanks very much for that. it worked on my powerbook(running Tiger). I went to the link and followed the instructions and it worked. Did i mention that my dad who has a iMac running Leopard now has the same problem. I thought i would just do the same but the Preference in Mail for Leopard is of course different. There is no icon called "Server Settings" under Accounts section like there is on mine. Do you have a link for the same kind of instructions for Leopard?
    Thanks again,
    Bryce

  • I changed my e-mail address a few months ago everything was ok. Starting monday my outgoing mail can not be sent, it says the server rejected my e-mail address. Why ? I can receive mail but not send it

My outgoing mail gets rejected. I can get mail but not send it.It was working for about 6 months.

If the smtp is rejecting your password you should go in.
    Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts
Select your Yahoo account in the sidebar on the left.
In account information tab you will see : " Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) "
Click on it and choose edit SMTP server list.
Select Yahoo and click on the advanced tab.
Now fill your new Yahoo password.
    Hope it's help.

  • HT1277 My outgoing mail is rejected by the server but I can receive e-mails.  This problem just started 2 days ago.  What changed?

I am unable to send e-mails from one of my acounts.  I receive an arror message that the e-mail address I am sending mail from is rejected by the server.  I have my outgoing mail set to smtp.comcast.net.  I am able to receive e-mails on this account.

    Hello,
Is the outgoing server set to...
    smtp.comcast.net
    Port 465
    SSL on
    Authentication = Password

  • I am receiving emails perfectly but I cannot send them. I have checked my account preferences and it says that my outgoing mail server is offline?

It is a gmail account through the University of Notre Dame if this has anything to do with the problem!

    Go to mail preferences.
Select the mail account that doesn't work...
Now check with comcast for the correct setting of incoming and outgoing mail server for comcast.net quick internet search will let you what they are
now port problem can also be found doing a quick search, depends if comcast requires SSL encyription yes or no and which port to use. when you change the settings to the right once your mail will work again.

  • My MacBook pro has stopped connecting to the outgoing mail server smpt (Tiscali) server, still receives mail fine, and connects to the web. Any suggestions welcome.

My MacbookPro has always worked fine, receiving and sending emails through my server,Tiscali.  I took it to France for a few days, and was able to receive emails and use the web (through the wireless router and server in our accomodation), although as usual when away from home, I couldn't send emails. I tried to set up a new outgoing email route using O2 (as suggested by a web article), but it didn't work, so I deleted it, and used Tiscali webmail to send emails.
When I returned home, I selected my usual outgoing server (Tiscali), but found to my great surprise, that I could no longer send emails - Mail timed out, 'unable to connect'. I noticed when clicking on: Mail - Preferences, that in the outgoing mail smpt box, Tiscali appeared, as usual, but now was followed by (Offline)
Receiving emails and web connections have remained fine.
I've checked with Tiscali, and they can't find any problem with their server or my settings.  Grateful for any suggestions about possible causes for this problem, and how to fix it.
    Joe

I have just tried attaching the ethernet cable to the MacBook to see what happens. The system is fine, but when starting Mail, it never opens and locks up. You eventually just have to force quit out of the program.

  • Mail POP outgoing emails not received (seemingly random) - Experts needed!

    Please, please help...
I'm having a very strange, very frustrating problem that I believe comes down to the Mail application on my Mac. I am running Snow Leopard (10.6.4) and using three email accounts I access through Mail via POP, and have done so without a hitch for years.
Recently, friends and colleagues alerted me to the fact they have not been receiving emails I've sent. Emails that appear in my Sent box. It seems that some people have received ALL emails I've sent them, some people have received SOME but not ALL emails I've sent, and other people have received NONE of the emails I've sent them in the past couple of months (this I only discovered a few days ago, much to my dismay).
I can see no pattern to which emails have and have not been received. It appears to be occurring across the three separate accounts, and with different outgoing mail servers. This is what leads me to believe the problem lies with Mail, and not the servers themselves, though I may be wrong. I cannot tell which emails have not been received, and can no longer trust that emails I send will end up at their intended destination.
I cannot find any information on this kind of problem. Please help me. I'm desperate, and at a complete loss!!
P.S. I just sent some test emails to a friend using different combinations of my three email accounts and outgoing servers. Two of the emails were not received, each sent via different outgoing servers (and different accounts). However, all the emails appear in my Sent box.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
This sort of random experience seems likely to be caused by the use of Rich Text Format. To test this, take a previously sent email that a friend did not receive, click on Message/Send Again, then click on Format/Make Plain Text, and then resend it. If they now receive, it is likely the RTF when it converts to a form of HTML is triggering a SPAM filter somewhere in the path to this recipient, and blocking the message.

  • HT204187 outgoing mail rejects password on one computer but not the other

The mail program says the outgoing mail password is incorrect on wife's desktop computer, but mail works from her iPad.

I, too, have the same problems as listed above. I have changed my password in my mail account several times. Each time my iPhone and iPad accept the new password and is able to send/receive mail. My macbookPro rejects it each time. I have tried deleting it from keychain...still did not fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

  • My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives, what's up with that?

My (postage stamp icon) mail program will not send outgoing mail - only receives mail.
Says the outgoing mail server is wrong, but Comcast says it's right - what's up with that?
Is there a way to reload the standard (postage stamp icon) mail program?

Clearly there's something wrong with the configuration. Reverting to some other mail application (whatever the 'standard' one is...) won't help.
What does the Connection Doctor (Mail -> Window -> Connection Doctor) have to say about it?
Chances are your username/password for your SMTP server are incorrect.

  • Can receive mail, can not send mail and can connect to outgoing mail server

I am able to receive email, but I am not able to send email. I have run the Connection doctor - My email connects and logs in to the verizon mail server. My outgoing mail goes into a send folder but doesn't go out. I connect to the Outgoing Mail Server. Any suggestions?

change your outgoing mail server (SMTP) port in mail preferences to port 587.....

  • OUTGOING MAIL POLICIES USING CRES BUT ALSO TO BE PROCESSED BY DLP POLICY

We have a outgoing policy in place which in turn have domains applied, a content filter and DLP policies.  The content filter states that if it receives cres header it will deliver without analysing and avoid DLP policies and send.
How can I config this so even if cres is used it will continue processing and follow DLP policies and send out accordingly.  I have tried "encrypt on delivery" i do receive the cres request but the dlp policy email bcc destination receives nothing at all.
When i send the same email without cres header the destination email receives and so does dlp policy email destination.

Yes the order matters.  It matches top to bottom, once you have a match, that's the policy that applies...
The HELP that is on the box is actually pretty complete, and includes examples of policy matching... Just go to the Outgoing Mail Policies page, and click "Help and Support" in the upper right...

  • Outgoing mail document that refuses to be sent but also refuses to be deleted.

I've got an outgoing mail message that refuses to be sent but also refuses to be deleted. It's really frustrating! I've tried pressing return and then quickly delete- quitting mail- restarting the computer- but the message keeps popping up. HELP!

    Quit Mail, Trash this file...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
