No Partition Selection Screen

I had XP installed on my computer, but I ran out of space. So following the instructions on the website, I removed the partition using boot camp so that I could reinstall. When I use boot camp to reinstall the program, the partition appears to be successfully created, but when I move on to the installation, I do not get the selection screen to select what partition to install the program on, it just starts installing. So far it hasn't messed up my leopard installation, but it's not completing the Windows installation. This is the same Windows program that I had installed previously so I know that it should work. I've also tried reinstalling Leopard. Any suggestions?

There was another approach. Using WinClone to backup XP/Vista in OS X to another drive. And *Camp Tune* (free) from Paragon to re-size partitions.

  • Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition

just bough OSX Mountain Lion, my laptop operating with v10.6.8.  Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition table. 24.44gb disk available.

Verify your computer can run Mountain Lion:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Now try installing Mountain Lion.

  • Bootable partitions won't display on boot selection screen

    Hi,
i have four bootable partitions - my regular Mac partition - a boot camp Vista partition - a Time machine partition and a Image partition (created by Carbon Copy from system partition).
Normally in the boot selection screen (pressing alt during startup) i got to see all 4 partitions and could boot from them. At some time this changed and at the moment i only see mac and vista - the Time machine and the image partition are no longer available.
In the mac system panel - start volumes i do see both partitions as it should be. Both volumes are absolutely ok - i have used also the hard disk service utility but there were no errors. Has anybody got a clue why this happens and how it could be changed.
I am not absolutely sure but it could be that both partitions were lost, when i migrated the machine to snow leopard. Maybe this is a clue.
    Thanks
    Michael

If the Time Machine volume shows in the Startup Disk system preference it must have more than the Time Machine backups on it, all of which should be in a folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the root level of the volume. At the least, it should also have the same System & Library root level folders as does any volume that is capable of booting the Mac or it should not show up in the system preference. Note that these folders alone do not guarantee that the volume actually can boot the Mac.
As for the CCC volume, the same thing applies. If the CCC backup is in the form of an *image file* (.dmg extension) it will not boot a Mac, nor should that volume show up in the preference unless it also has the other root level folders mentioned above.
It would help if you explained exactly what you mean when you describe the CCC volume as an "Image partition" -- it is either a clone that should look in Finder exactly like the source it was made from with the same folder structures or a single file that has to be mounted as a virtual volume by double-clicking on it to reveal that structure.
Also let us know what the root level folder structure is on the Time Machine volume; IOW, if has anything besides a "Backups.backupdb" folder & if so, how the other items got there.

  • How to remove non-bootable xp drive on os selection screen

I have a non-bootable xp drive which shows up as a selection on my os startup selection screen that I want to delete since it can't be used.
In xp it also shows up in the boot camp control panel under startup disks along w/ my bootable xp drive and osx drive.
I was going to edit the boot.ini file but it doesn't seem to show up there, see my boot.ini file below:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=3
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /noexecute=optin/ 3GB /fastdetect
Anyone know how I can remove this phantom drive from my startup disk selection screen?

In my case I have an OSX boot drive, an additional dedicated BC drive running XP and 2 additional drives I use for backing up and storage. All 4 drives are internal for what it's worth. My "phantom" drive was one of my backup drives.
What I did was transfer the files I wanted to keep on my "phantom" drive over to another drive. Went into DiskUtility erased the "phantom" drive and then reformatted the drive, transferred my info back onto it and was finished. I probably could have skipped the erasing but did it anyway.
Note, I did this to a secondary backup drive which kept appearing on my boot screen and was annoying me. It started showing up on my boot selection screen after I had tested a restore of a clone I had made and then erased the drive after I saw that the clone was viable. I did not do this w/a BC partition of my primary hard drive so I'm not sure how this would work in that situation.

  • Why is the Boot Disc Selection screen always appearing?

WIth a bootcamp partition on an iMac booting while holding down the Option key will cause the boot disk selection screen to appear, but suddenly I'm getting the boot disk selection screen even WITHOUT holding down the Option key. Why?

Well it might take a little longer since POST (power-on self test) needs to check more memory.
But try doing a smc and pram reset and see if that helps.

  • Holding option on boot does not bring up boot selection screen

Holding option on boot does not bring up the boot selection screen, the machine just boots from the previously selected startup drive.
    MBP 17 mid-2010.
    SL 10.6.7
I created a three partition drive on a Seagate GoFlex 1.5 TB drive.  GUID partition table.
Used SuperDuper to clone the drive.  Drive is bootable.  Booting from drive works using Startup Drive selector, so does not appear to be a drive issue.
I'm baffled.  What can I do to fix/troubleshoot?
    Peter

Are you using a Bluetooth keyboard by any chance, I see that same behaviour at times if so ?
I tend to select the desired boot volume with System Preferences/Startup Disc these days although option should work ...
I have noticed that if you reboot right away the option key often works the second time round which is odd.

  • Change selection screen in LDB (KDF logical database - NOT HR)

    Hi All,
Iu2019d like to use KDF logical database to keep the dynamic selections since user wants to use it but I need to change the selection screen itself. The existing variants for KDF donu2019t meet the user requirements. Some fields I need to hide some add. Like I want to u201Cremoveu201D the field u2018Posting periodu2019 (MONAT) (which is available in dynamic selection screen) and put it on the u201Cmainu201D selection screen.
Do I need to create my own logical database or there is a way around?
Could someone give me a practical advice or sample of solution?
    Thanks a lot.

    Thanks Himanshu,
I did as you suggested but problem is that it does not allow me to hide the whole block.
I have 3 filelds actually on block KD_0 I need to hide (its from selection screen of KDF logical database.)
      SELECT-OPTIONS: KD_LIFNR FOR LFA1-LIFNR MATCHCODE OBJECT KRED.
      SELECT-OPTIONS: KD_BUKRS    FOR  LFB1-BUKRS.
    SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK KD_0.
PARAMETERS KD_INDEX AS SEARCH PATTERN FOR TABLE LFA1.
What I did is below.  I used sp instead of  u201C=u201D since it has many screen for field KD_LIFNR(for frame, text etc).
And when I did just for KD_LIFNR it was hidden but when I did the same for KD_BUKRS it was not hidden . The field has stars u201C*********u201D in it.
Same happen with KD_INDEX. The name of the field is hidden but field not and it filled with ********. Do you have any ideas what it can be?
I debugged it to catch all screen names but no luck
      loop at screen.
        if screen-name cp 'KD_LIFNR' or
        screen-name cp 'KD_BUKRS' or
        screen-name cp 'KD_INDEX' or
        screen-name = '%B000003_BLOCK_1000' or
        screen-name = 'SSCRTEXTS-FRAME_TEXT' or
        screen-name = 'SSCRTEXTS-MCID_TEXT' or
        screen-name = 'SSCRTEXTS-STRNG_TEXT' or
        screen-name = 'SSCRFIELDS-SEARCH_BTN' or
        screen-name =  '%B025008_BLOCK_1000' or
        screen-name =  '%F021010_1000' or
        screen-name =  'ALCUR' or
        screen-name =  '%F022012_1000' or
        screen-name =  'EXCDT' or
        screen-name = 'SSCRFIELDS-UCOMM'.
          screen-invisible = '1'.
          modify screen.
        endif.

  • HR ABAP - PNP selection screen

    Hi Friends,
I am executing the standard report with PNP logical database .
But in the selection screen when I click on further selection and select the parameter company code.
Now I entered the company code "0060", but I am getting the out put for both company code 0060 and 0020,
here I need the out put only for the person which are belongs to company code 0060, but I think the selection screen company code was not controlling the out put.
Also I checked the Infotype internal table p0001, here I am able to see both the company codes, and for that person the process is continuing and I am getting the out put for the company code 0020, bcz the current/valid record for this person is 0020.
Request to let me know any issue there?
    Magesh.S

    Hi,
You need to set "person selection period" dates, in order to list values with selected parameters.
