No persistent tags mavericks

I am running MacOs 10.9.5 and I am creating custom tags to organise my job. This is my problem: I am adding 2 different tags to a file, but If I edit that file and save it again, it looses one tag, the second in order. Is there a way to fix this and make tags persistent even editing and re saving files?
Thanx in advance.
Alex

Does the same thing happen with built-in (color) tags?

  • "Disk Not Ejected Properly" persists in Mavericks 10.9.1

I was hoping that Mavericks 10.9.1 would solve my "Disk Not Ejected Properly" problem that started with Mavericks.  No such luck.  Are others having this problem?

I rechecked the box and it seemed to fix a different problem - UPS clicking.  Turns out my Thunderbolt TM was disconnected for several days.  So I have again unchecked and am hoping to come back to some semblance of normalcy.  There are other discussions about the new chip's different energy levels and the altered choices in "energy saver" settings; and what seems to go wrong related to "sleep" or something like it.
I am surprised that Apple doesn't have a clear instruction page on sleep, energy saver settings, and how its Mavericks computers interact or may interact with the OS and its sleep options (available and hidden/inherent).  While I had heard rumors that 10.9.2 would fix the external hard drive problem, I am seriously beginning to doubt it.
This is surprising as Time Machine - built in by Apple -- all but requires and external hard drive.  Apple doesn't really make an external hard drive appropriate for most TMs.  The LaCie 2Big 6 Thunderbolt that I use is sold through the Apple store, so, though a 3rd party device, Apple seems to be suggesting that it is compatible.  Why can't Apple, until it fixes the OS, tell all of us who use an external HD for TM along with a new computer running Mavericks how to do it -- without the HD ejecting impropertly or disappearing and TM simply not backing up!! -- how to do so.  I.e., tell us how to use Apple's product as intended.
Crowd-sourcing is well and good, but at Apple's prices, it is really unfair to wait for thousands of discussants to beat their heads against Apple's wall of silence, hoping to psych out Apple's 'missing instructions."  Yes - there are instructions for "energy saver" settings, but they simply fail to deal with the fundamental issue of which setting makes it possible for TM to operate without needing constant attention (like turning on and off to make OS refind the HD).

  • I cannot connect my apple trackpad to my iMac using Mavericks.

Ok, I am reading A LOT of issues with Mavericks. I am tempted toi go back to lion or snow leapord. This is shameful on Apple's part. Safari is unuseable. hard drives drop on setstart
And now I cannot connect my apple track pad. No matter what I do, It will not connect. I have read re-installing the OS will work, which means I have to re-install everytghing. Not happy. At this rate I might as well run windows 8.

um... having to update most of the system software is still incredibly time consuming, and I already did it once. Problem persists. Mavericks is fail. Period. The ONLY thing that made paying the premium for a mac WAS the OS. Now? Taking this heap back tomorrow and getting a PC. If I have to trouble shoot this much it would be better if I save money and can play games. Apparently with the death of Jobs so to does the OS die.

  • Mail "New Message" window retreats to background after drag and drop attachment from Finder to Mail "New Message", click, and Finder window stays in foreground even when not in focus

Hi, I'm surprised I can't quickly find if anyone else is having this issue. For me it has been going on since Lion on my 13" MacBook Pro 2011 and it's still persisting in Mavericks, and even still now that I've "downgraded" to a 15" MacBook Pro 2010 with Mavericks.  The behavior is odd and difficult to explain concisely. Basically, when I want to add an attachment to Mail, I'll Cmd+Tab over to Finder click and drag and Cmd+Tab back to Mail, and drop the attachment. At first it looks fine, but when I click in the New Message window where I just dropped the attachment, to move the cursor, it retreats to the background and the Mail Main Window comes to the foreground. Then, if I click on that, the Finder window that I just used comes to the foreground. Sometimes if I switched to another app before going to Finder to select the drag and drop, that other app window will appear in the foreground instead. If I click on the other app window that is now in the foreground, then the Finder window that was last used will come to the foreground. The only thing that seems to fix this switch-a-roo effect is Cmd+Tab-ing back and forth a few times, or click on the window "frame" at the top to move the window around.
The way to prevent this is to have my Mail Message window visible in the foreground side by side with the Finder window when the drag and drop occurs (this is a tedious extra step if mulitple windows are open, or to use the add attachment command in the menu within Mail. But it sure is annoying buggy behavior.
    Thanks
    Daniel

Yep, I get exactly the same thing when using Thunderbird mail client on my 2011 iMac running Lion. I've been putting up with it for at least a year, maybe longer.
For me it appeared to start after a Thunderbird update, so I figured that was the cause and couldn't find a solution at the time. However I've now noticed it starting to happen in Apple Motion 4 when dragging files from Finder into a DropZone in my animations. Motion remains the active program but the Finder window sits on top until I Cmd-tab out to a third open program (ie not Finder) and back to Motion again.
This is the first indicator I've had that it's an OS X issue.
Be great to find a solution as D&D is by far my preferred way of adding attachments to emails and similar tasks.

  • Mac Mini 2011 Black screen

I have a mid 2011 mac mini (Intel HD 3000 graphics) with 8 Gb RAM running Yosemite (10.10). It's connected to a LG 42 inch monitor.
Randomly, the screen blacks out for 2-3 seconds and then returns.
    I have:
    Reset the PRAM
Removed one of the memory SIMMs so that only one bank is used
Looked at the system reports on Console but nothing pertinent appears to come up
None of these have helped. The problem only started occurring after an OSX software update in Snow Leopard and have persisted through Mavericks and now Yosemite.
I've seen problems here on other Mac Minis and their solutions but nothing for a 2011 Mac Mini with HD 3000 graphics.
I'd be grateful for any solutions.

I should add that I connect to the monitor through HDMI.

  • Catching Mysql  sql execution  status with EJB and Persistence API.

    Hi:
When I insert a duplicate unique Key, the try block defined below does not catch the exception and the transaction is rolled back automatically by Glassfish.
How is the proper way to handle this to catch the duplicate status?
    public class MyDbEjb extends DefaultHandler implements MyDbEjbRemote {     @PersistenceContext     private EntityManager em;     public void createTag(Tag tag) {       try {         em.persist(tag);       } catch ( Exception e)       {           System.out.println("how sorry");       }           }
    Thank you

    Hi annie,
Wherever you are handling database transactions,
you'd not be able to create a Connection if database
is closed (I think you mentioned turning off the
database) then at this condition, you should
certainly throw a System level exception and stop all
processing with some meaningful flow to indicate a
failure (like display message on UI). Even
network problems are handled by exceptions... so I
don't see a reason why you didn't wrap it in the
    first place.
Anyway, try handling specific exceptions rather than
the general Exception... this will give you a better
idea of what to do in case of an exception.Yes i know this. I am practicing this in my non-j2ee server applications. But the j2ee app im making, i just pass the db url in the descriptor and the app server automatically creates the connection for my app. So where would i put exception handling?
    2. how can i stop my MDB from processing the same
message?Guaranteed delivery is not supposed to stop
processing. It will continue to process the message
after certain intervals till the message is
delivered. You shouldn't deliver it at all, if you
are able to detect that the database is off
The problem here is that my MDB automatically retrieves the message from the JMS queue server. Im not the one retrieving the messages manually.
My assumed behavior of topic MDB is once the a certain MDB retrieves a message it will not retrieve the same message anymore.
    thank you in advance.

  • My Mac has sleep apnea

My Mac wakes up frequently.  I mean REALLY frequently, like every couple of minutes all day and all night.
I have the Mac set for wake for ethernet access so that I can use Back To My Mac when I'm at work.  I understand that it will Dark Wake periodically, but every couple of minutes seems excessive.
    The system is an early 2009 Mac Pro | 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon | 14 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC | ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB
2 connected monitors (24" Cinema Display via Display Port, and HP L2335 via DVI)
There is a blu-ray drive mounted in the lower bay, and 4 internal drives mounted.
Also One USB drive, and one Firewire drive plugged in, but both switched off.
It's hardwired via Ethernet 2 port to an Airport Extreme Base Station (version 7.6.4)
The base station is set to forward calls to port 5900 to this Mac port 5900 (for screen sharing)
I'm currently running OS X 10.10.3, but the problem has persisted since Mavericks I believe.   It all did work perfectly at one time in this identical hardware configuration.
After not being able to troubleshoot this earlier, I disabled wake on lan, and turned off port forwarding on the airport, and then the Mac was able to sleep through the night (mostly), but still would dark wake occasionally.
A couple of weeks ago I wiped the Macintosh HD and did a clean install of Yosemite, then migrated over my user account from a backup.
I then had some strange Calendar & Reminder issues that I couldn't solve, so I built a new user account from scratch, and now everything seems to be working fine.  (the migrated user account is still on the drive, though not logged in)
Yesterday I decided to see if I could get Back To My Mac to work again, so I reenabled Wake On Lan, and Port Forwarding, and now the Mac will not sleep.
Based on what I'm seeing in the console, it appears that something is triggering the ethernet, but it's certainly not me
If anyone has any thoughts or advice I would be grateful.
Here's a taste of the console to show you how frequently it's waking up.  It goes all day and night like this, but this is just a sample:

That's related since the process is attempting to load your Safari bookmarks from iCloud, and is crashing for some reason.
    Try this:
Select the entire line that follows (triple-click to select it), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears, select Services > Reveal in Finder:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iCloudHelper
Drag that entire folder to the Desktop.
    Quit Safari.
Attempt to open iCloud Preferences again. If it opens de-select Safari.
Launch Safari again and determine if the problem is fixed.

  • Is it possible to view ".mp3" files in Mavericks "Tags" windows by file name (rather than the info in the "name" field of it's ID3 tag)?

    Short version:
When viewing ".mp3" files in a "Tags" window, the information in the "name" column next to the file defaults to the information in the "song" field in the file's ID3 tag.
Is it possible to change have the "name" column display the actual FILE NAME instead?
I did some research and found nothing.
    Long version
    Let's say I have a ".mp3" file named "Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3"
When I open the folder this ".mp3" is in and find the file, the "name" column will read "Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3" (of course)
Now, I tag the file "jams"
Now I go to my "jams" tag view everything tagged "jams", the "name" column in that window DOES NOT say
"Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3" , but instead just "Hello It's Me"
The finder seems to be pulling this information from the "name" field of the ".mp3" ID3 tag metadata (aka, the information that would be written in the "name" column when viewing the file in iTunes.)
Ok, that's fine Mavericks, but I want to see the ACTUAL FILE NAME of my ".mp3", (which "tags" windows seems to do for most other things [documents, folders])
Q: Is it possible to display the filename of a ".mp3" file when viewing a "tag window?"
Tags are super useful, but this inconsistency makes it inefficient, distracting, and confusing to move freely between the window for a given "tag", and a normal "finder" window.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think you have to avoid editing inside the tags list with the 'metadata names'. Instead right click an item, select 'Open enclosing folder'.
In 'real folders' you can enable the 'Title' in column via the 'Veiw Menu > show columns', that way you can see the file name & ID3/ EXIF titles.
'Fake folders' (smart searches & the recent tags list) don't feel finished yet IMO.

Invisibility of Tags in OS X Mavericks system :
We ask Apple to enable colorization of the entire text of the title files (as with the label Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion)

We believe that this significant improvement in signs or identifyings should not be too complicated to be implemented

Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that

  • Improvements for Maverick' Tags System

I really like the idea of tags, I was using them already in lion and so forth....but I was thrilled to hear that Apple decided to give it more attention in Maverick... Maybe my expectations were too high
    Let's see....
I do like everything they did so far, but I do not understand why everytime they try to improve something, they automatically have to let go of things already there that were working fine : like a dot instead of the whole file name with color....why couldn't we choose between one or the other ?
I like the dot, but I also like the whole file name...
Then I love that I can create tags on any file directly, but when I manage my tags, why can't I create a new tag there ? I can't even open up the finder window large and long enough for me to see all my tags for ch.....t sake: I can not manage tags this way !
And I mean seriously : only 8 choices of colors really ? why could'nt I create any color I choose to ?
...and in my wildest dreams a system where I could choose an array of uploadable icons (not only a dot) in similar colors classified (called a "camaieux") ...
I did say my wildest dreams : maybe there's an app for that ?!?

  • Mavericks' finder "tag" vs. Lion's "label"

Hey all. Can I make Mavericks finder tags look like Lion's finder labels?
In Lion's finder, when you apply a "label" to a file (or whatever), in list view, it makes the entire row the color that you've chosen, which is really great for highlighting a particular file when you have a slew of them and you're only working with one or two.
In Mavericks' finder, you apply a "tag" in the same way (select file with contextual menu), but it puts a little colored dot at the right margin of the file name column. Not nearly as easy to see.
    Lion:
    vs. Mavericks
No contest in my book. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

There's a free 3rd party option called XtraFinder that adds the full color label back to files and folders.
