No Photo book option - V7.1.3

I have just recieved my new iMac which came with iLife 08, but having added all my photos to iPhoto 08, I cannot seem to create a Photo book - it only gives me the option to 'Buy Prints'. This is strange as I have iPhoto on another machine and it works fine.
Is this a feature only available to purchased iPhoto versions? Or am missing something obvious here?!
Thanks in advance!

How are you going about creating a book?
Click the wee plus at the bottom of the iPhoto Window and it should give you the option.
If it doesn't, can you find print themes?
If not then this thread:

may help.

  • Contact Sheet, Photo Collage, or Photo Book?

Request help to better understand PSE6 capability and to identify the right option to use:
    A. Contact Sheet Option
I have 138 pictures that I can print using "contact sheet" with landscape page setup and 6 pictures per page. I can separately select to include dates and captions. The result looks great! The issue is that I can not save the collection of contact sheets as a PDF or as any kind of file that I can electronically send to anyone, or recall, edit, or print again.
    B. Photo Book Option.
The photo book option puts one picture on one page and 4 on the next. Never six pictures on one page. And I also have to fiddle with frame size, etc to compensate for portait vs lanscape pictures. It also will not let me include dates. It can, however, be saved as a PDF.
    C. The photo collage option
The photo collage option lets you select between 21 picture/page options. However none of them include 4 or 6 pictures per page, and half of them are for angled picture placements. It also will not include dates. but it can be saved as a PDF.
What I think I really want is option A (Contact Sheet) with the ability to PDF or save the resultant set of contact sheets in one file.
Am I understanding the problem and the capability right?
I'm using PSE6 with a one year old Dell Vostro 1510 with Vista and 4 meg memory.
    Thanks for your guidance,
    Ron

You can try using one of the free pdf makers such as PDF reDirect. (google to find many choices).
When you install one of these you get a pdf maker as a printer option. Simply choose the pdf maker as your printer when you hit print and you will get a pdf.

  • Is it possible to order a Photo Book from iPhoto if I live in South Africa? What are my options?

I live in South Africa and want to order a Photo Book that I made using iPhoto. But I can't seem to find a delivery option anywhere for international deliveries.
    HELP PLEASE!

Lol this post was over a year ago... I've since found an excellent solution. Just thought I'd let you guys know.
    www.24hourphotobooks.co.za
I just saved it as a PDF and uploaded it to their website... their prices are resonable, the product is really beautiful and of superior quality, and they are super efficient!
I've since used them twice! Brilliant company... I recommend you try them (also, they are based in Linbro business park in Johannesberg so you can pick up your book if you live in Jozi instead of courier... but for all other areas of SA they deliver to your door! Fantastic!)
    Hope this helps!

  • HT4990 Why is there no option to create cards in the iPhoto app? It seems odd that they have options for photo book but no cards??

I just purchased the iPhoto app for the ipad. I was very disappointed that there is no place to create cards/post cards from the iPad itself. It really seems odd since they have options to make photo books but nothing for cards and prints?
Is there any other thing I can use to get this feature from the ipad itself?

There used to be the free Cards.app to create greeting cards, but is has been discontinued two month ago:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4990
Check out this list for alternatives - I have not tried any of them, however:  http://appadvice.com/applists/show/apps-for-sending-ecards

  • How does one create a photo book of a custom size? Only option available is 11x 8.5 inches

Please help me with the basic steps for creating a photo book in pse12 of a custom size e.g. 12x15
I want to create design using pse12 and get the album printed by a local vendor. Please help. I am stuck with the fixed size offered by Adobe.
I want to create Photoshop photo book in order to spread out few single images on 2 sheets. I won't be able to do the same if I create pages separately.
    Thanks in advance.

Aha. You can't have two different page sizes in one single document.
You are right, you could do it with three separate documents, and 'glue' them together using a Book document. It's far easier to place a blank placeholder page in your actual document, and create a new doc just for the oversized page.
When the time comes to produce a final file (hopefully, a PDF), you can leave it as is -- two separate documents --, or use Acrobat to stitch the larger page into the main document (at the request of your printer).

  • Page numbers in a photo book / keepsake

Can anyone tell me how i can get page numbers to display in a photo book? In the help section it says that i can go to settings and turn this function on, however, I don't have that option in there. I need it to make a slideshow preview for others involved to review pages and make suggestions to layouts. They need to be able to quote the page number that needs adjusting.

The page number setting it the bottom check box in the settings menu - if it is checked and you do not have page numbers displayed on your pages then they are not available with the theme/layout you have chosen
See Liz Castro's web page for samples of each theme and the layouts for each theme - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Travel - I'm not sure she specifically addresses page numbers

  • My iPad isn't syncing properly - It says it is syncing but then none of my new music, photos, books, or podcasts have been added!

This is getting really annoying as syncing my iPad 1 now take forever. It says it is syncing and goes through all the motions, and it does sync my apps,
but none of my musi, photos, books or podcasts, even though it's only half full so it has plenty of space. What I do at the moment is use "autofill" to add the music and podcasts and then I drag the new books from my iTunes library to my iPad in Itunes (I have a PC, by the way), but I still haven't found a slution for my photos - at present it's supposed to add all the photos in one of my folders on the computer, but it hasn't added the new ones in a long while.
I suspect this might have started when I added iOS 5, but I'm not 100% sure. Another thing I had lots of difficulty with earlier is that the music I synced was all greyed out and couldn't be played, but I solved that by choosing "manually manage music and videos" in Options. This might be why it's not syncing properly, but last time I tried reverting that it just greyed out my music again! What do I do?
Oh, one last thing - the music and books I'm adding at the moment aren't purchased from the Itunes stores, if that helps. Just the podcasts, and they seem to eventually add themselves after the sync.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

    Hey orangesarecool
Enable Manually manage music and videos and then drag and drop the songs that you want on there. Toggle it back to see if it changes.

  • IPhoto crashes when trying to open a large photo book

My wife has been working for days assembling a large (90+ pages) photo book. Now when we go into iPhoto and try to open up the book she's been working o, iPhoto crashes. I can open other photo books we've made, just not that one.

back up and rebuild your iPhoto library - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and use the first three options
Just tried rebuilding the thumbnails like you suggested and still no luck.
If you used the first three options you rebuilt the entire library - not just the thumbnails - did you select all three or did you select only rebuild thumbnails?
You need to rebuild the library - not just the thumbnails

  • APERTURE PHOTO BOOK WORKFLOW

I'm new to Aperture (1.1) and am looking for advice on the best workflow to create Apple Photo Books. Issues include:
    1. Getting the correct version of the photo into the book
    2. Copying the photos in correct order with a single copy/drag command
    3. Ensuring there are no duplicates
    4. Not having the photo name in the Book
I had created an Aperture Album for the Photo Book. Took care to drag the best version (which is the last version) of the photo into the album (with an error here). After numerous attempts, I gave up on trying to get the correct, better version of the photo into the Book (just re-edited the version I had). Tried to manually arrange the photos within the Album in the order I wanted to have them in the Book (they are ordered by date) but was unsuccessful in re-ordering. In creating the Book I had to individually drag each photo to it's page and had to manually keep track of which ones I was using (resulting in one duplication). As I was fine tuning the Book and rearranging the photos, there wasn't a place to temporarily store the photos (this is how I inadvertently got a duplicate). Also, I had to manually remove each photo name that was attached to each photo in the Book(perhaps there is an easy option here I don't know about yet?).
Interested in any pointers to expedite creating these Photo Books. Missing some of the iPhoto Book creation tools!
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i am no expert on books, but in the one i am working on, i set the image i wanted to use as the stack pick before i made my book selections. i always manually load pages, so i can't help you there. in the browser of my book, the thumbnails of images used in the book have a red badge in the upper right corner showing how many times they have been used in the book. that should help you with duplicates.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

  • Can you share photo books

    Hello!
I am making a photo book on my macbook as a gift for a client at work and i want to put it on my boss's macbook pro for backup. I tried to email it and drop it in to an email but i cant drag it or open it. Is there any way to move this or share it to another computer? Let me know asap! Thanks
    Stepanie

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you connect to your boss's MBP via a LAN? If so you can connect to his Mac and copy the library to designated folder. Otherwise, put the library on a Flash drive and transfer it that way.
If the library is large you can reduce it to just the photos in the book (and others that you think you might want to use) by following Old Toad's Tutorial 9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7/8 Book for Later Use/Editing. The bottom line is that the entire library has to be transferred so make it as small as possible, i.e cull out the unneeded photos first.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

I am using Aperture to make a photo book.  I have about 400 photos in the project that I am selecting from.  I want to use about 70 for the book.  I am allowed to pick and choose photos until I fill 20 pages.  Then when I select add page, I am allowed to select all the pictures in the project.  I am not allowed to select.  I think I hve to change a setting, bt what?  Thanks for the help.

.  I am not allowed to select.  I think I hve to change a setting, bt what?
David, have you enabled the "Autoflow" options? There are settings behind the cogwheel, that will automatically place unused images onto new pages. If you only want to select a few images from a large project, disable these two options:
Or start your book froman album, that only contains a selection of your images, rather than from the whole project.

  • ? about image resolution/color correction when apple prints photo book

My first time making a photo book. I color correct and sharpen all of my images in Adobe Lightroom 2 first. Then I save the jpegs and import into iPhoto to make a book. Is there an option for turning off auto color correction when the file is uploaded to apple for printing? Is there an accurate way to tell how the photos will print on the specific paper they use? Also, what print resolution should the photos be set to? Is 180 dpi enough? Thanks in advance.

first read the Apple pages - http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/preparation_tips/ - and all of its links
Second - I suspect you will be disappointed. Based on reports on these forums almost everyone who uses iPhoto exclusively to preprocess photos is extremely happy with the results. very often people you over process their photos using a third party program (including Lightroom, Photoshop, etc) are unhappy because the printing process is optimized for point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing - it is NOT a professional desktop book process
There are no options re color correction - it is built in again aimed at sRGB, point and shoot cameras and iPhoto processing
Plus there have been reported incompatibilities between iPhoto and Lightroom
The print resolution is what it is - if it will be less than 180 dpi you will get a waarning - it can be greater
The papers they print on are specified here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412
