No Picture // Canon 600D Import to Premiere

When I import my 600D footage to Premiere, i just get the sound... Premiere handles the files just like audio files, no video....
Any Suggestens what might help?

OK, i just found a way to handle the problem.
The original filenames are file.MOV // when I change it do file.mov without upper cases it works, but is there an easier way?

  • Canon XF Import Causes Premiere CS6 to Crash.  Help!

I purchased a Canon XF300 to work specifically with Premiere CS6 as Adobe claims native support for MXF files.
Unfortunately, whenever I import footage from the XF300 into Premiere, it causes Premiere to crash.
This happens no matter what method I use to import the files... using XF Ultility, using Prelude, clicking on import in the Premiere CS6 media browser, opening the files in the media browser and dragging and dropping into a bin.  It doesn't matter.  The crash still happens.
This is not an issue with spanned clips as it happens even without spanned clips.
After importing the clips into a bin, the bin has trouble drawing thumbnails for all the clips, usually but not always the ones not initially visible in the bin window.  The thumbnails don't appear, just gray boxes.  Scrolling down and clicking on the gray boxes, even after waiting several minutes for the system to "catch up," causes a crash.
This is a repeatable problem that *only* happens when using Canon MXF footage.  Every other codec I've tried works just fine.  The Canon footage never works.
I am on a Mid-2012 Mac Pro 2x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Inten Xeon computer running 64GB of Ram on OSX 10.8.3, using Premiere 6.0.2 Creative Cloud.  I use a Matrox MX02 for I/O and a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with CUDA Driver 5.0.59.
I've troubleshot this problem to death, stripping everything from the machine down to its original factory state (no extra RAM, no NVIDIA card, no Matrox I/O etc.) and the system still crashes every single time I try to import the MXF footage, no matter what method I use.  The only workaround is to transcode to ProRes and that's not acceptable.
Am I the only one having this issue?  Is there something glaringly obvious I'm overlooking?  Thanks in advance for any assistance or perspective.  I am growing increasingly frustrated as I feel Adobe has a software problem here they're not addressing.

That's the thing.  The system drive has plenty of space... 762Gb out of 1TB available.  All the HDs have a ton of space on them.  This has happened since Day 1 when the entire system was brand new.
And only with Canon XF files.  No other codec produces behavior even remotely similar on my system.  It's baffling because everyhting is up to spec as far as I can determine and yet the problem persists.
Limiting the number of clips in a bin is unworkable because of the type of work I'm doing.  Transcoding is the only answer at this point but I really would like to know what's causing this.
I really wish Adobe could try to recreate the problem.  Does anyone else out there using Mac OSX and CS6 have trouble with XF files?  Is it a known issue?

  • Canon 7D - Import clips (Premiere Pro CS4)

    Hello,
We recorded a few clips with the camera Canon 7D in FullHD (1920x1080, 16:9, 25 FPS). Now we would like to edit them using Premiere Pro CS4. Is "AVCHD 1080p25" the preset we need to use? We know there is a specific preset for Canon 7D, 5D, etc. in CS5, but not in CS4.
Using that one, it fits the size but the image looks like less colorful and palid. Why does this happen?
In any case, what should we do? Which settings are the proper ones? It is very important for us because it is for our senior project!
Thank you very much in advance!
    Marta & Lorena.

Thank you for the reply, Jim!
However, we are wondering if there is a chance to select the properties of the CS6's Canon 7D preset manually in CS4, or do you mean it is impossible to "copy" the settings to use them in CS4?
Is the look of the image (less colorful and palid) the only problem we are going to face by using CS4 instead of CS6? Because if it is so, maybe it is not that terrible, is it? We have also heard about problems with the render.
    Thanks,
    Marta & Lorena.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 and Canon 600d problems

    Hello,
Recently I've been having a few recourring problems when trying to edit footage I captured on my Canon 600D on Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
The footage shot on the Canon is 1920x1080 at 24fps, when I create a setup preset for these settings in Premiere the clips appear to import absolutely fine. The setup Ive created is shown in the screenshot below.
The problems start when I place the clip on the sequence and render it, once the clip renders the playback in the program/timeline preview window goes all weird and doesn't play the clip properly. Shown in the screenshot below.
First of all I thought this might just be a playback error but when I try to export it as a video file it says error and closes down. This is extremely irratating so i wondered if anyone would be able to offer me a soloution. I have a feeling it may be my setup preset but if so would someone be able to tell me the correct way to set it up for a canon 600d camera because whenever I try a preset found within premiere it exports the video at 720 resolution and very low quality.
Thanks very much for whoever replies, I appreciate it very much
    Mike

Ahhh okay that sucks, is there anyway to convert the footage that I already have without drastically reducing the quality as I want my film to be the best quality that is possible?

  • I can't import MXF files shot on a Canon C300 into FCP 10.1.2.  I have the Canon plug in for MXF file to FCP import but FCPX still doesn't recognize MXF files when I try to import. Premiere works fine importing MXF on the same computer.

    Russ and Luis,
I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)
    Thanks.
    Peace, Huey
FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.
Here's 2014 Canon C300 files does NOT import to FCPX
Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

  • Canon Vixia hfm31 videos (MTS) won't import into Premiere Pro CS5

I have a lot of footage on a Canon Vixia HFM31 HD Camcorder. Yesterday I tried to import into Premiere and got an error message saying the MTS format was not supported.
The clips DID import with iMovie.
Do I need to purchase a converter from a 3rd party vendor to be able to get MTS footage from the Vixia into Premiere. Seems strange that it worked so seamlessly with iMovie.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Deanna

When you open the New Sequence dialog, does it look like this:
...or do you have significantly fewer presets available? If you have less, your installation has been reverted to trial mode--this is a problem that occurs after updating Premiere. If so, the only way to get back to full operating status is to reinstall the software.
Specifically, what you need to do is:
Deactivate your installation (Help > Deactivate)
    Uninstall Premiere/Production Premium/Master Collection. Reboot.
Download and run the Adobe CS5 Clean Tool. Reboot.
Repeat step 3 at least once more, preferably two or three more times
Reinstall and reactivate Premiere, and then update
It's a pain, indeed, but it's the only way to get back up and running.
If, however, you do have all the presets, give us some more detail on the files and how you're trying to import them.

  • Editing Canon 600D DSLR footage in Premiere Pro CS4

I am considering purchasing the new Canon 600D DSLR camera to capture HD video files. I understand that this camera captures H.264 video files but am getting very confused as to whether or not CS4 can edit this file type.
Some websites say I need to get CS5 and CS4 can't handle these files while others say CS4 will work just fine (and yet others say I need to transcode the files into a new file format for CS4 to use!).
I'm more than a little confused... please can someone from here give me some help? Is there anyone using a DSLR with CS4?If so please let me know how...
    Thanks for reading :-)

I believe CS4 has trouble handling H.264 wrapped in a mov, so its not so much the camera itself.
You could consider getting Cineform Neoscene to convert the files and edit with Cineform avi's.

  • Hi I have CS5 and a canon 600D. Photoshop won't convert the files

Hi I have CS5 and a canon 600D. When I shoot in RAW photoshop won't read my files unless I convert them through DNG converter. This is time consuming and takes up a lot of space and I was wondering if there is a shortcut to converting the files. Also I have just become a full time student studying photography. I would like to purchase a student package so that i can use CC which is the same programme a at university. Which is the best and cheapest way to do this? I know that we are being offered a package in November, but I need to upgrade sooner really.

    Hi Frankiestone,
I would advice you to purchase the Photography plan which consists of both Lightroom and Photoshop.
Please refer to below link for pricing
    https://creative.adobe.com/plans
When you have the latest version of the products you will have access to camera raw version 8.6 and you would be easily able to import the RAW files from Cannon 600D with converting them.
    Thanks

  • JPG images get corrupted during import to Premiere CS5.5

I'm doing time lapse movies, and import a series of images by choosing the first file, and checking "Numbered stills". After the import (of about 420 JPG files), one of them was being corrupted. It now has a discolored break in it:
The corruption was not present before the import, so it was definitely caused by Premiere CS5.5. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original file (from my memory card). So I essentially lost this image (although the embedded thumbnail is still intact).
Is this a known issue? Will there be a fix?

Thanks for your comments and links, everyone. I've read them, and want to clarify a few things:

Too many of too large pictures can cause problems
Thanks for posting these. I find it disappointing, that large pictures are not being handled well by Premiere. I mean, the images that I'm using are 3648x2736. If that is considered too large, then I would need to batch resize them, e.g., to 1920x1440. But then I would not be able to get high-quality panning and zooming...

You must have it.  PP doesn't do anything to imported assets other than show them to you.  If the image wasn't exactly where it was when you imported it, Premiere Pro would simply see it as offline.
That's not correct, I'm afraid. Each time I import one or more images, Premiere edits the file(s). I believe it is related to the XMP ID. You can even "watch" it do the edits because every JPG file briefly gets rewritten with ._00_ in front of its original file name, e.g., IMG_1234.JPG briefly becomes ._00_IMG_1234.JPG. Afterwards, the original file is being replaced with the new one (which apparently contains the XMP ID tag now).
On a sidenote: I've had several files stay with the ._00_ file name but the original was removed. Meaning that Premiere somehow "forgot" to rename them back. This happened on 8-12 images (out of 600). Very weird.

I dont know if this is your problem but do you have "Write MXP ID to files on Import" on ?
    Maybe something went wrong.

I'm assuming that's what's causing it. And yes, that option is enabled on my computer. So while the XMP ID tagging went fine for the other 419 images (and frankly for thousands of others before that), it somehow went wrong on one of them. (I should say two because it did happen twice to me so far.)
I will disable the option "Write XMP ID to files on import" from now on, and hope that I can avoid image corruption by that. But from what I understood, this will have other consequences (performance degradation).
The only alternative would be to keep a backup copy of all images before importing them to Premiere...
In any case, I believe this is a bug that should be fixed - together with the above mentioned bug on large images.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version"

After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version".  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry,
Yes, the error message is exactly like that  ("Database error: failured to persist version")
No photos will import at all.  I use USB to import from iPhone 5s or iPad 2.
About the difference?  iPhoto and Photos .  Are there two softwares?
I also will like to merge and/or synchronize all my photos I had saved to iCloud backups, Macbook Pro,  iPhone 5s and iPad hard drives using iPhoto.  It's call iPhoto library.  At one point I turned off streaming.
    Thanks again Larry HN.

If you mean backed up as part of an iPhone backup in iTunes?  If so, you would have to use 3rd party software to extract them from the backup, such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

  • Problems with .aaf import in premiere pro cc

    Hi,
So I'm having problems with importing an aaf file into premiere. The weird thing is it was working about a week and a bit ago, then stopped. I can't work out why, to my knowledge nothing has changed but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be massively appreciated.
I'm using premiere pro cc and avid media composer. I'm trying to export from avid and import into premiere. I'm creating an .aaf file in avid and trying to import into premiere. When I press import, the progress bar comes up and gets stuck instantly. I can close the aaf import window, but then it leaves the import files progress bar still up and premiere stops responding completely.
At first it worked fine, within premiere I can still use the aaf files already imported, I just can't import more (I can't even import the files I had previously done successfully). I just can't work out why?
Any help would be massively appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Jack
