No Picture (HDMI)

Hi all. Ive just got a new Pc about a week ago now. DVI to HDMI and DVI to RGB works but when i put HDMI to HDMI in no picture comes on.
When i use the HDMI to HDMI lead in the graphic card to the TV nothing comes on the TV when i switched the PC on for the 1st time. I tried sevral times with the HDMI to HDMI lead and tried different ports on the TV and still did not work. The HDMI lead i used i also use for my old PC and still use it for my PS3 and works fine. I then used a DVI to HDMI lead what i had and it worked with no problems and the picture came on with sound also. Since using the DVI to HDMI lead i have tried using the HDMI to HDMI and there is sound but no picture still and tried another HDMI to HDMI lead but still does not work apart from the sound. Any help would be grateful
 Thanks for any reply.

Try to select from your tv , PC as the input device.
Try to look in the menu of your tv , there should be an option ...
sometimes if you don't set pc as the input , hdmi doesn't work properly.

    Hello Bluebird,
See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x

  • Audigy 2 ZX DD decode late

The audio (TosLink) output of my ATSC tuner is being processed by my Audigy 2 zs Platinum. The sound seems to lag the picture (HDMI). Is this common? I've tried updating my drivers; but, no improvement. I've connected the tuner to a neighbor's setup and there is no such problem. The problem also goes away if the tuner's output is PCM (stereo). Do not tell me to connect to my receiver. There isn't one, and besides the speaker electronics are connected to the Audigy's analog outputs via an 8 channel DI box.

Say again? I have that box. I have my optical put in, but I cant get dolby. Is this card suppose to decode dolby or not? I'm talking about XP, not vista.

  • Bad Picture Quality On SD Channels With HDMI And Panasonic VIERA 720p LCD HDTV

I just bought a new Panasonic VIERA 32" 16:9 8ms 720p LCD HDTV TC-L32X1 for my in-laws when they finally had Verizon FIOS brought into their neighborhood last month.
Install was by the Verizon tech using the HDMI cable I also had shipped to them.
The HD channels quality is excellent, but the SD quality is smeared -- almost looks like an impressionist painting.
It is not the TV -- the TV menus are crystal clear, as are the HD channels.
And, it is not just the broadcast HD -- the DVR box menus are also smeared when viewing as SD channel, as is the guide and the pop up channel info.
We've tried all the settings on the TV -- Zoom, 4:3, etc.
The other TV (an older CRT) actually has better SD quality than the Panasonic.
My research indicates we're not the only ones on FIOS with this problem. Someone suggested using the component hookup rather than HDMI?
Other say that IMG 1.7 is supposed to solve the problem, that the SD quality was fine before IMG 1.6.
    Any suggestions, solutions, or updates?
    The picture is virtually unwatchable.
    Thank you!

Joe01880 - Being a new customer as of last October, I have never seen anything other than IMG 1.6.  My understanding from other posts is that before IMG 1.6, the SD PQ on an HD box was just fine.  I'm not sure what the complaints/gripes/begs were for IMG 1.6 but it seems to me that, if Verizon knows what changes were made, it should be straightforward to determine which changes caused a deterioration of the PQ.  I think it's been at least 6 months since the first complaints of poor PQ, so I don't really see how anyone can claim that Verizon is in danger of "rushing" an update to address this problem.  I also don't think that a forum topic, no matter how much it complains or gripes, will cause Verizon to rush.  I am much more worried that during a large portion of my 2 year contract that the issue won't be addressed at all, so I'm happy to add my voice to those complaining."

  • Mini display port to HDMI - negative picture issue

I bought a new Macbook Pro 13,3 inch laptop last week and added a 120 GB ssd and 8 GB of RAM. I'm loving it!
Something I'm not loving however is the issue with the Mini Display Port / Thunderbolt when connecting with a MDP-HDMI adaptor. I watch a lot of movies and so hooking the computer up to my Sony BRAVIA 46 inch TV is quite important. Everytime I do the picture and sound are great! For about 5 minutes... then the picture goes "negative" you know that turqoise look?? Like a negative image. The sound is still there, the picture is just affected. To remedy I have to turn the tv off and restart the movie. Very annoying doing this ever 4-5 minutes!!
Is there a fix of some sort? Apple should really release an update for this.
    Thanks!

sounds more like a hardware failure.
Try a different monitor to see if the problem persists, in which case that would point to a bad video card... or try a different source with your monitor(another computer), and if the problem persists, that would indicate a problem with the monitor

what do i need to connect my mac book pro to the tv with the mac's thunderbolt port to hdmi? I have the newest macbook pro. I'm wanting to have the best picture I can get from my 1080p tv. thanks

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.
Thank everybody, especialy Zyriab, ne was the closest.
    High regards to everybody

  • I am trying to connect my mac book pro to the tv via a mini display port and a hdmi cable, the only picture that is on the tv screen is the background picture on my computer, any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my mac book pro to the tv via a mini displayport to a hdmi cable, the only picture on the tv screen is the background picture of my mbp, does anyone know what I need to connect to my samsung tv ?

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

I've got a MacBook Pro 15' running 10.6.6. I want to use an external monitor for my graphic design work using Adobe software and thought I'd try an HD TV. I ran a Mini Display to HDMI lead to the TV but the picture quality was disappointing. I also tried a Mini Display to VGA lead and that wasn't much better. I tried all variations of resolutions in System prefs - Displays but nothing helped. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks all.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page.  At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often.  This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector.  Computer monitor first, TV second.  But the thing is only 27 in.  Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

  • Pavilion g6-1b70us. Picture but no sound from tv when using HDMI. Previously worked no problem.

I have a pavilion g6-1b70us that I am trying to hook up to my tv with an hdmi cable.  I get a picture, but no sound.  This previously worked with no problem.  When I pull up my sound playback settings the only options are speakers and headphones.  When I pull up my devices, the Samsung tv is there, but is described as a "generic monitor" (thought that was weird).  I have uninstalled and reinstalled my intel graphics driver and IDC audio driver but still no sound through TV.  Also, I will mention that in under control panel>devices and sounds there is a link to SRS Premium Sound.  As you can see in the picture below, the Samsung device shows up, but it is grayed out and cannot be selected. Can someone please help?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well in case anyone is interested I fixed the issue (only took me 12 hours to figure out, lol).  Apparently even though the Samsung tv was not appearing in the sound playback options, you can still right click in the blank area and an enable/disable option will appear.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Dvi hdmi no picture

My imac 21" is connected to a Sony Bravia LCD TV thru a dvi hdmi adapter; now the mac freezes on the big bang opening screen without any menu, even when the TV is off; previously the TV was detected but there was no picture on the TV screen. Should I do a PRAM and an SMC reboot ?

If you have a home theatre, the best way to do this is with a toslink cable (optical cable),if your systems
support it, with an adapter for the headphone plug on the mbp.
here are some suggestions that the forum had for me and others. good luck.
    Hi Elaine,
The TV could be tricky to get audio out of if you are using a DVI to HDMI adaptor to connect to the TV. Is that what you're attempting to do? The problem with that is that the TV will be expecting audio on that HDMI cable, and it may not be possible to "map" another audio input to an HDMI input. Some TVs will have a DVI input, with an associated "DVI Audio-In" input that is "mapped" to the DVI picture, because DVI will only carry video.
You should be more successful if you connect the MBP to your home theatre directly. If the home theatre has a toslink input, you should connect the toslink cable between the MBP and the home theatre, and then set the home theatre to the appropriate input. You should get audio through that without problems.
    --Travis
Hi there, welcome to Apple Discussions!
It is most likely a video/audio pairing problem with the TV. The TV is expecting audio to come through the HDMI cable you've plugged in, but of course there is no audio through that connection. Depending on your TV, it may or may not be possible to map an analog audio source to a specific HDMI plug. That's what you'd need to do. If your TV has a DVI-in plug, it may be more friendly to the analog audio source because it won't expect audio on that video input.
Also, if you have a home theater receiver, you could plug the RCA into that and run that for sound.

  • I have just went to the Apple Retail Store and purchased an HDMI adapter that plugs into the bottom of my iPhone 4. When I asked the sales person if I could watch the videos and pictures from the camera roll I have taken on a T.V. he said I could.

I have tried to watch the videos and see the pictures from my iPhone's camera roll on a televison but it is not working. It is like nothing is connected to the T.V. set. I have tried with cables that attach to the bottom of the iPone. I have used an HDMI cable and a component cables on two seperate Televisions. How is it supposed to work.
I plugged the HDMI cable into the HDMI #4 jack into the T.V. and turned on the iPHone and watched the camera roll on the iPhone bu tnothing appears on the T.V. screen. What would have to be adjusted to view the pictures from the camera roll on the T.V. screen. The same thing happend when I used "Composite to iPhone" cables to a different T.V.  I even tried with and iPhone 3GS, still no display on the T.V. screen.

Warranty on iPhone is not international, but valid only in country of
original sale. Since you purchased the iPhone in Australia, your warranty
is valid only in Australia. You must either personally return the iPhone
to Australia for evaluation and possible replacement or sent it to someone
in Australia to take into Apple for the evaluation. Apple will not accept
international shipments for repair nor will Apple ship out of the country
    after replacement.
Sorry to be the bearer of this news, but it is the way iPhone warranty and
    replacement has always worked.

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.
