No Picture in Monitor

I have a 2 hour wmv movie that I am putting together in Premier Elements 9.
Specs are: IBM Thinkpad T42 - Pentium M745,   1.8 GHz,  2MB L2 cache, 1GB RAM,
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 /  64MB Graphics Controller,   1x160GB SATA,  Adobe PE9 installed on Partition  E  (37 GB
FAT32, 14 GB Free),   Win XP SP 3.
I rendered the whole thing.   Nevertheless, there are still sections showing a thin red line in the Time Ruler.   Other
sections show a green line.   Playback in the Monitor Window doesn't happen in either case.     In 'Playback Settings'
there is a tick in the box for  "Desktop Video Dispay During Playback"  but it is greyed out.    Much simpler and much
shorter videos from the Adobe 'Classroom In A Book'  text  and using the 'mov' file format, also fail to show anything in
the Monitor Window.   My question is:   Why do I have no video?     How can I make it work?   Cheers   .   RobertLienkie

Though with that computer you will be limited, this ARTICLE on partitions might be useful.
On way around the limitations of most laptops is to use external HDD's, but before you jump into that, see this ARTICLE first.
As has been mentioned, the video display driver is so very important. This ARTICLE also gives other tips on tuning everything up, for PrE, the OS and the system. Please look over it, and see the links inside it.
Also, with an underpowered system, it might be useful to break your long Project into several pieces, to be assemebled in a New Project for authoring.
Good luck,

  • DUAL MONITOR BUG: One Picture – One Monitor – Different Colors!

There have been several threads discussing that Photoshop CS4 and OS 10.6. show wrong colors in dual monitor setups.
The first one to prove this with a screen capture was jb510-LJ0JJQ in August 2009: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2207312#2207312
Eight months and three OS updates later the problem is still there and makes professional work with more than one monitor a nuisance.
Here's another actual example: A picture and its 100% identical copy showing different colors on one screen!
Here's how to repeat it – try this at home ;-)
    1) In the finder make a copy of a rgb picture.
    2) Open one of the two identical pics in photoshop.
    3) Drag it to the other monitor.
When releasing the mouse button you may see the bug already: the colors will "switch".
    4) To verify this go to system presets - monitors - and change the primary monitor (by dragging the menu bar to the other)
    5) Now open the identical copy you made in step 1) and see the difference!
Here's a synopsis of suggested workarounds:
    1) disable open GL (which seem to makes no difference on my setup)
    2) click "desaturate monitor colors" but set desaturation to 0 (which prevents visual switching in step 3) (only if openGL is ON) but also leads to a wrong display in step 4+5
    3) make the hardware calibrated monitor your default monitor and strictly avoid changes or dragging pics to the other monitor (which seems to be the only reliable method)
    4) some guys even force both monitors to use the profile of their hardware-calibrated monitor (using color sync) to make sure they see what they should see on at least that one monitor. What a stone-age workaround for the the world's leading imaging program!
Considering that reliable colors in professional (=multi monitor) settings should be the most basic function of photoshop this mayor malfunction should be solved with CS5! Otherwise we might have to live with it for some more years...
Have Adobe and Apple realized this bug and on their agenda? Will it be gone with OS 10.6.3? Can anyone explain the reasons for this bad bug? Is there a "officially" recommended workaround?
    Thanks, regards,
    Eric

There have been several threads dealing with this malfunction. But most faded out in silence or acceptance of the workarounds.

But man, this is no minor bug! Consistent colors are the by far most important basic function of photoshop. If you cannot rely on the colors in photoshop you can as well use "Preview" and "Word" for print production ;-)
Carson, how did Apple react to your complaint? What do you mean with "they don't get it". Do they not see it? Or can't they get it right?
Shall we open a thread at apple forums to point out that it's not the problem of a single user?

  • Camera connected and controllable, but no picture in monitor when importing

I have a Sony DCR-TRV17E connected through firewire port on my powerbook, and I CAN control the camera using the capture controls, but no picture (or audio) appears in the iMovie monitor. Likewise when I click on import, either for a magicmovie or normal.
It's driving me mad, and all the help pages say is check this, check that, unplug and start again etc. None of which helps!
    Thanks

Hi Ashley & Art et. al
May be time for my faulth finding list:
    Mac:
    - hardware
◊ Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
◊ Disconnect all other ext devices (FW and USB) exept Camera (and keyboard + mouse) and try again
    ◊ Reset PRAM
    ◊ Bad RAM-chips
◊ disconnect Mac from powerline (not just switch off, really plug out) for a few minutes to reset FW ports
    - software
◊ File-Vault is on - turn it off
◊ Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
◊ Do You have desktop pictures or screen or energy-savers active? Try turning them off.
◊ Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good) OS X.4.0-5 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
◊ Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first) QT v.7.0.0-4 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
◊ Have you tried the crazy fix: Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. Sue/SDillini
◊ Running iDVD at the same time as iMovie can cause problems: (Lennart Thelander)
◊ If You also have installed FinalCut Express/pro there are possibly problems with this
    iMovie:
◊ remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    ◊ Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
    Connection:
◊ don’t Daisy chain Camcorder <--> external hard disk <--> Mac
◊ FW-wire cable, is it OK?
    ◊ USB/USB2 is NO GO !
    Camera:
◊ The Camera is set to VTR ? (not as when You ”film” record with it)
◊ You may be need to go to the Camera menu and select digital out.
◊ defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC ! (if the A/D chip in the camera is harmed then it will say in iMovie that the camera is connected and You can forward rep. backward the tape but there will be no picture or sound just the blue screen.
◊ Cheque the menu on Your Camera so that it communicates with the FW digitally to Your Mac
◊ Date and Time is correct on Your Camera ?
    Tape:
◊ Drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
◊ Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is pre-recorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
◊ If You recorded in LP-mode (90 min on a standard 60 min tape with 12-bit sound). Try to change in iMovie pref. to import but not as individual clips. If this doesn’t work You have to make a Camera to Camera copy with the receiving Camera set to SP-mode and 16-bit sound.

  • Won't boot to desktop (picture anomally)- monitor goes and stays black

Folks I've got a strange anomally here. I've got an aroginal G4 dual 500 running Tiger that won't provide any video por picture signal to the connected Apple 22" Cinema Display (the orginal with ADC). The machine boots and shows the grey screen with the Apple logo, then goes black and stays there, and the power light stays on on the monitor. I can still here the hard drive spinning and reading. Before making suggestions read what I've tested below:
    - put 2X AGP ATI Rage 128 Pro from my G4 into other G4s (connected to 17" LCD display) and the video card worked fine.
    - put other video cards in my G4, connected to 22" display, and all worked fine. These cards were slightly more powerful than the stock 2X AGP ATI Rage 128 Pro
    - installed a clean OS on my G4 with no changes, monitor still comes up black.
    - ran disk utilies, did the pram reset, tried the fsck rick in single user mode.
I am at my witts end.

  • Compatibility of monitor & Apple g4

    Hi every one
Some one recommended to post my issue in this forum discussion. I hope I am in the right place & be able to get a more concrete solution.
    1. My old Ultra scan 1 600 HS series Dell Trinitron Monitor (Model D1 626HT D1 626 HT & the serial # is 55347B2 19 M69) is connected to my Apple computer via the Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter (101). When I turn on the computer and try to see the picture on the monitor screen What I see
is merely the blue apple screen, and no picture at all, not even the icons. If this is the wrong connection what kind of cables do I need for connection in order for me to be able to see picture?
    2. Assuming I can see picture on monitor screen, would this monitor allow accurate basic color calibration options such as hue and contrast?
    3. If for some unfortunate reason I cannot use the donated monitor from my son, what is the best way to preview my sequences on an external device?
    4. I was thinking to buy a HD Plasma Television (Model TH-42PZ700U Panasonic) to be able to watch the sequences with the best color. However, I am uncertain to buy it for the two reasons:
    (a) it is too expensive (b) even if I buy it it require calibration which. (c) Is it easy to calibrate and if so How? Do I have any software?
Any suggestions recommendations and solution to my issue of compatibility would be greatly appreciated. I sincerely thank you for your very kind help. golab

When you see that blue screen, that sounds like it may be extended desktop mode. This means the screen is active, but you haven't noticed because there is no dock, menubar or icons on it. But you should be able to move the cursor off the notebook screen and see that it moves onto the other screen which proves it is active.
When the monitor is hooked to the notebook, if you go into Displays preferences, you should see an Arrangement tab. Click on it and you should see a small facsimilie of the two screens, namely the built-in screen and the external screen. Notice that one of them has a little white bar across the top. This is meant to represent the menu bar. You can drag the little white bar from one display to the other and the real menu bar will then move from the internal display to the external display, making it the primary display. See if that works for you.

  • Monitor Problem after POST

    hi,
I booted my newly built pc last night for the first time.
It booted and made it to post with a good screen view of the bios.I began checking the bios to make any setting like changing from a pci to agp card etc.
After saving the changes and rebooting, the screen image started to get problems
i.e,some letters were getting fuzzy or flashing.I rebooted again and now have
    an unreadable screen.
I've switched monitors, tried a pci video card, reset cmos using the jabt and battery
removal method, removed any addon usb ports, swithed the mouse from usb to ps2.
I also checked the voltage at the video card and both mb connectors.
I'm at a loss as to what is happening and need your help.
    Thanks
    Glenn

OK,I was able to get the 6800 ultra into my e-machine and rearranged some molex connectors to get it some power. As it turns out,the card gives me the same
lousy screen as on the msi motherboard.
I decided to pick up a low end gforce mx4000 from the local Circuit City and
I'm now using on my new machine with a picture purfect monitor resolution.
    Thanks for your help.
I guess its time to load Windows now.

  • Program monitor freezing

Hi, I just switched over to premiere CC and have been having trouble with the program monitor freezing up. I am editing R3D files 5k and therefore have the playback quality set to 1/8. But every time I'm trying to scale up the picture, the monitor freezes completely. Everything else works, but i have to restart premiere to get any picture back on the program monitor. Is there any setting i could change to prevent this? Answers are appreciated!
    - Espen

    my computer configuration details are:
    -Its a MAC
-processor: 2.6 Ghz Intel core i7
    -memory 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
    in the project settings:
-renderer: Mercury playback engine GPU acceleration (openCL)
    -diplayformat: Timecode
And I'm have set the scratch disks to an external HD using USB3, could this maybe be a problem?
The strange thing is that everything worked when I Used the Premiere cs6 before i switched to premiere pro CC.

  • Dual display, 2nd monitor displays 3 of everything

I have ran 2 monitors before with no problems. Useing the lastest nVidia drivers with a Ti4200 128 I get 3 displays of everthing I put on the 2nd monitor. What I mean is when I slide a window over to the 2nd monitor it shows up 3 times. The device manager shows 4 monitors, the primary (Hitachi 751) and 3 default monitors. It doesn't mention the 15" NEC monitor that is my 2nd display. I have tried to uninstall them, but they keep coming back. I have unpluged the 2nd monitor and rebooted, no luck. There probably is some check box or setting that I am missing in the nVidia control panel.
I sure need some help,Thank You ..... VRB

    Hi,
This is probably NOT the answer, but if all else fails...
I've encountered problems when connecting an LCD monitor to the VGA output of a video card which is primarily set up for PAL TV out - so the Vertical and Horizontal rates on the VGA are presumably derived from the PAL H & V rates (50Hz and 15625Hz - the latter might be doubled on the VGA). Anyway, most of the LCD screens I have tried in this combination give multiple horizontally displaced images. On the other hand, CRT (picture tube) monitors generally seem OK.
So you could try changing the refress rate or resolution of the 2nd output, and see if it makes a difference.
Having said that, I think the problem is more related to the way your system thinks there are 3 extra monitors attached - in which case I haven't a clue  :(
    Good luck!

  • Xfce won't detect display after unplugging

Ok, I have 2 monitors at home, unfortunately 1 of the ports in my graphic card won't work.
For certain reasons, I need to use 1st display during the day, and the 2nd during the night.
But, if I just unplugg the cable from 1st display and plug it in the 2nd the screen just won't come on.
When this happens, I can access to tty2 and tty2 detects screen and displays image, restarting lightdm also displays image in display (but somehow this breaks pulseaudio leaving me with no sound :S ).
    Any idea?
PS. Of course I have selected the option "Detect new screenwhen plugged" on Xfce Display Settings.
    Thank you

    NO
    This is what want:
    1. Startup computer using Monitor A
    2. Unplugg HDMI cord from Monitor A and connect it in Monitor B
(After this, Monitor B goes black on tty1 (used by lightdm) and I can only have tty2, tty3 and all others available)
    3. Keep picture in Monitor B when plugged, without the need of restarting lightdm or the whole computer
Until now the only workaround is this:
    1. Startuo using Monitor A
    2. Suspend system
    3. Plugg Monitor B
    4. Resume system
THanks and sorry for not being that active

  • Apple studio 21" display and Quicksilvers

I have a 21" studio display, the graphite green colored one with the built in USB 1.1 hub built into it. It has a standard VGA plug. Will this work with a 733mhz. Quicksilver G4? Most of the ones on Ebay don't picture the monitor out and some have these Gforce 32mg. ADP/VGA outs. I just want to make sure the monitor will work when I get it here. Will it also work with a mirrored quicksilver (even though I probably won't be able to afford one)?

Will it also work with a mirrored quicksilver (even though I probably won't be able to afford one)?
According to this article, that monitor is compatible with both the Quicksilver and Mirrored Drive Doors Macs. See my reply to your other thread for more information about adapters.

  • [Tip] How to protect Image file

    Hello,
If you have ever wanted to protect your image file,
    especially within your Flash content,
    this article will be helpful.
First of all, there are some points you need to protect when
you deliver image data with Flash.
    1. Internet Browser Cache.
Even though you use 'HTTPS' protocol when you deliver your
    file,
if it is pass the 'Network (or Protocol) Layer' of your
machine, it is already in 'plain' data
(not encrypted), and can be read by Internet Browser.
Those 'plain' data will be stored in Internet Browser's
    Cache directory.
There are many Internet Browser Cache reader programs, and
    they can intercept those
data before the Internet Browser program deletes the cache
    files.
So, just using 'HTTPS' is not an answer. You need to encode
    your image data
with your own (or with well known cypher algorithms)
    encoding/decoding methods.
In this article, I want to explain more detail about this. I
    scramble the image
so that make it hard to figure out what the original image
was, not only with human eyes
but also with 'strong enough' 'Key' length.
    2. Screen Capture.
Even if you encoded your image data, it will be finally
    shown on your screen,
without any noises, or any other ugly filters.
So, you can 'Capture' your monitor screen itself.
There can be many ways to avoid this. First, you can erase
    the system's 'Clip board'.
You just can erase it regularly, or you can detect whether
    the Internet Browser -which is
showing your image data- is active or not and erase clip
board when it is active (in foreground),
and hide your Flash area when the browser is inactive (in
    background).
If a hacker just take a picture of monitor screen with high
    quality Camera,
you still can avoid that, by showing some black rectangle,
or any layers on the screen
regularly only in very short period (like mili-second). But
I think this way sometimes you feel
tired or be annoyed when you watch that kind of blinking
    screen.
    == About my code ==
What I want to present here today is 'modifying(encoding) the
    image' data itself.
There are many ways you can try for modifying your image data
and revert it back to original data.
You can use legacy block cipher algorithms like DES, AES, for
    encoding and decoding the
image data, because the image data (RGB values) what Flash
uses is actually a combination of 'bit's.
But if you decode the 'encoded image' data, you probably use
    'get pixel'/'set pixel' function for
reconstructing the proper 'RGB' value of each pixel. But I am
sorry that this function is extremely slow
so that you need to wait for a couple of minutes to see an
    image.
So, what I want to show you today is 'Scrambling the image'
    like 'picture puzzle',
with using 'copyPixels' function which is 'extremely fast'.
(Actually, there can be many other solutions for this, so
please don't hesitate to proceed your own research)
Let's say you have 8*8 pixel size of image blocks, and you
    completely disorder those blocks for
entire image area. That size of block is too small to figure
out where it should be, with our
humble human being's naked eyes. So, you need to know the
'answer', which is saying what image block
was originally on which 'cell'. This 'answer' is the 'key'
for my simple 'image scramble' logic.
The 'key' I said here, you should understand that, is the
'key' value of normal 'block cipher' algorithms.
So, if you know the key, you can rearrange all those 'blocks'
back, but if you don't know the key,
simply you can't do that, or you need to wates tremendous
    time for that.
Here, I use 16*16 size block for your eye's convenience, and
with 8*8 size of 'matrix' which is
comprised of each 16*16 size blocks. I mean, one 8*8 matrix
has 64 blocks, so each block of
one 'matrix' can be at '1st cell of matrix or 64th cell of
matrix. So, the 'odds' is 'Factorial of 64',
    which is 64! == 1.268869322e+89 .
Let's say you know my algorithm (complete source code), and
you try every different 'matrix' values.
If it takes 0.001 seconds to test one 'matrix' value you have
    chosen, it will take
    "(64!) / (1000*60*60*24*365) =
    4.0235582250724303685766549129617e+78" Years!!!! to find exact
    matrix value.
    == FLA sample ==
In my sample *.fla file, I embedded all those 'key' values.
So, you can not use my sample directly for your
own project. But I think this sample will give you an useful
    idea for your own implementation.
<* Exchanging the key values *>
For example, you need to get the 'key' values from the
server, only when it is needed.
You can use 'loadVariables()' function for this purpose.
But, all data delivered by 'loadVariables()' or
'getUrl()', or any other functions of Flash, are
'Cached'.... So, you need to exchange that 'key' values
    more safer way.
One of that 'safer key exchange' is to use 'token'. For
example, when the client requests the key value
to the server, the client should generate an random value (I
will call it 'token') and send it to the server.
Now the server modifies the 'key' value 'with the token',
and sends back to client. Finally, the client
decode the 'key' value with the token value it generated.
As you can see, my logic is just 'rearranging each blocks'
with respond to the given matrix values (key).
It is really really simple. There in the ActionScript code,
you can see 3 matrix, and some other variables.
var chessunit = 16 // Size of block
var arrayw = 8 // Width of Matrix
var arrayh = 8 // Height of Matrix
var arraysize = arrayh * arrayw
var chessarray = Array (arraysize) // Matrix for decoding
    chessarray = Array
    (64,37,5,35,45,25,52,38,12,61,34,23,3,26,39,58,32,28,17,2,60,16,59,19,57,48,43,18,47,21,4 0,15,31,6,44,46,30,51,27,56,20,24,13,7,42,1,49,54,36,53,9,50,4,8,10,14,33,11,22,63,55,29,4 1,62)
// In case of the width of an image is not exactly the
multiple of the width of matrix,
// we need to encode the right most area of the image.
// So, I simply use another matrix for only that area.
// Maybe You can generate more bigger image, of which the
width of it is exactly the multiple of
// the width of matrix. And you let the decoder to show only
the original size of the image.
    // Please try yourself. :)
    var dwArray = Array
    (32,19,3,18,23,13,26,6,31,17,12,2,20,29,16,14,9,1,30,8,10,24,22,11,15,28,7,4,21,25,27,5)
// In case of the Height of an image is not exactly the
multiple of the Height of matrix,
// we need to encode the bottom most area of the image.
// So, I simply use another matrix for only that area.
// Maybe You can generate more bigger image, of which the
Height of it is exactly the multiple of
// the Height of matrix. And you let the decoder to show
only the original size of the image.
    // Please try yourself. :)
    var dhArray = Array
    (40,23,4,22,29,16,33,24,8,38,21,15,2,17,37,20,18,11,1,10,12,36,30,27,13,25,28,14,19,32,35 ,7,5,26,3,31,34,6,9,39)
You can change the block size, matrix size, any values you
    want.
By the way, if the block size becomes smaller, you'll get
more stronger security level. But you have to
compensate it with the slow down of the performance.
** Ooops, I can not attach my sample *.fla file, but only
    ActionScript code here...
But I believe you can try without testing my *.fla sample.
If you really want to test it, please mail me.
    ([email protected])
** You need to 'export' image object, with the name of
    "img0".
    == Image encoder ==
Encoding (Scramble) the original image is also simple. You
just need to copy each blocks in reverse of
the 'ActionScript code'. That's all. You just use same
'matrix', but copy source and target reverse of
ActionScript code. I think you can write it with any
languages you like, C/C++, C#, Java, and
    anything.... right?
    == Block cipher ==
Now, you know that my implementation is kind of 'intuitive'
    representation of 'block cipher'.
More precisely, it is called 'ECB', which encodes each
encoding block (matrix) with the key values
from the beginning to the end. You can twist the matrix every
time you pass one matrix area of an image.
It is called 'chaining'. There are some 'chaining' block
    cipher methods like 'CBC'...

Thank you for your time to read my humble article,
and wish you Good luck. :)

    Hello Crandom,
If you want to encrypt a critical strings, like special
server script url or parameters, then it is simple.
The most simple and faster method is to "XOR ing the string"
with a key string. You use the same key string when you encode and
decode (by Just using XOR). This is similar to 'Stream cipher'
    algorithms.
And there is "open source cipher algorithm" (called
AS-CryptoLib) written in ActionScript, including most of algorithms
like Hash, Block cipher, RSA... if you want more stronger
    encryption strength..
But I bet you also want to encode your script logic itself.
In that case, you should write your own 'Interpreter'. For example,
you encode all your ActionScript source code string, and decode it,
and you interpret each script tokens like 'if' 'for' 'while',
    etc...
Actually, your question also inspired me to think about
loading script string and run it on the fly.
Maybe.... we can start from this article...
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16691"
I suggest you just use commercial SWF file encrypting tools
like Ameyata's "SWF encrypt". It changes the SWF file structure so
that usual 'SWF file decompilers' can not read codes properly.
And.... If you can use Flex2 (for your current project), and
it is ok with you (If you don't need to change a lot in your
current project) to use JavaScript to control your objects or
behavior of SWF file, then I think there is another possible way.
After you decode the Javascript string, you load a web page,
or change the content of HTML file already opened, so that your new
script will be working, as what you wanted to be. But I didn't test
    it :)
    Best regards.
