No picture in Source/Program Windows

Not sure whats going on here, suddenly cant view anything.  is there a way of toggling video preview  on and off?

Customer Care Chat helped resolve the issue.
Had to set Mercury Playback Engine to software only. I also had to offline/relink some audio files that weren't playing back in the timeline.
There was also a bunch of permissions that needed to be repaired.

  • CS3 - Change magnification of Source/Program windows?

I'm working in Premiere Pro CS3 and I've successfully imported some video.  I can change the size of the windows themselves (50%, fit, etc).  However, the image itself inside the windows continues to display at 100%.  This means that at the "fit" windowsize, I'm seeing the top left corner of the image only.
When I stop the video playback and click on the video itself, I see a set of scale controls over the image, which looks perfectly scaled to the window size.  But as soon as I engage playback, the video blows up to 100% size inside a small window, leaving me without a clear look at my full footage.
I'm a Photoshop person and I'm looking for the equivalent of the Zoom tool to get a larger or smaller view of the full video.  Is there a way to change this, or is my only option to open out the panels as large as possible to see the whole picture?
Thanks, I hope this makes sense.

    MandyRose,
With a Project Preset of Desktop (Custom) set to 640 x 480 PAR = 1.0 (Square Pixels) and matching source footage, which the info in Project Panel verifies, this should not be happening. Going back to your Project Preset, can you check one more time that you have chosen Desktop, with the above specs. ? What you show is what one would get with a mismatch between the Project Preset and the source footage. That's why I'm bothering you with that one bit. I've thought that I had chosen properly, experienced similar, only to find that I had clicked one selection above, or below, or forgot to change my Frame Size in the dialog screen. In the Toolbar, you can go to Project>Project Settings and display the General settings chosen for the Project.
if I set my view to something larger than my screen can display (for example, 75% or 100%) it stretches and distorts the image within the size of the panel.
That other magnifications show only a portion of the source footage's Frame Size is correct. Depending on the size of the Program Monitor, one would have to scroll around higher magnifications, when they are chosen, instead of Fit. That it "stretches and distorts" is not.
I realize this just might be a limitation of Premiere that it always displays this way, but it just seems as though it should show me the full clip (reduced to fit the window) while I'm working with it.
PrPro's Program Monitor is an emulation, albeit a pretty good one. This is not normal behavior. That is why I'm looking for one setting that is not correct.
In the Timeline, Rt-click on the Clip, and check whether Scale to Frame is checked. If so, what happens if you uncheck it?
One other place to check would be the Effects Control Panel and twirl-down Motion, looking at Scale, to make sure that nothing has been applies there. Scale should be set to 100%.
That is all that I can think of at this moment. I'm sure that I am missing other places to check. If I can come up with any, I'll post them back with more questions.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • As soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down

    Linc,
You keep showing up when I search for this problem so I hope you can help.
I'm having the same issue in Premiere and Media Encoder (but not After Effects). My Mac just restarts itself as soon as video is loaded. I can start Premiere and open a project and go through relinking media, but as soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down.
I've fixed the problem temporarily two times. The first time I was troubleshooting what was wrong and wound up putting in my old video card and after that fixed the problem, I switched back to my GTX 680. I also did a driver update. After doing that I was ok for a few days so I figured it was a driver thing or maybe the card just needed to be reseated. Then when it started acting up again I figured something was going on.
So I started searching again and came across one of your posts that recommended removing CUDA. I did that and it worked perfectly for a week until about 20 minutes ago. Crashed in the middle of an edit and now each time I restart Premiere it crashes as soon as video touches my monitors.
I found this post because I specifically searched for "com.nvidia.web.NVDAResmanWeb(8.2.7)" from my Problem Report.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Darren

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the shortened log. Here's the full thing. By the way, where do you learn to read these things? Are there keywords like "error" that you just learn to look for or is it something for in depth?
    Thanks,

  • Premiere CC 7.2.2 Won't display in Source or Program window on startup (just grey)

    Hey there,
When I load a recent project I am faced with a grey screen (on both source and program windows) and pressing play does nothing.
In this state, trying to load any clip also crashes premiere.
I have checked composite video is checked and enable transmit but I still get no playback.
I have however found a work around to fix the problem which seems to work but it is rather frustrating to have to do everytime i want to load the project.
The workaround I have found is to load a project without any footage in, then go media and clean the cache.
Now when I load the grey screen project, it generates new preview files and allows me to playback the timeline.
I have deleted all audio files and it still gives the grey screen and checked built in audio is set in preferences therefore feel it may not be an audio issue
I am not using any third party plugins but I do have warp stabiliser applied to some clips and then some nested so I can apply timeremapping.
I wondered if you have ever encountered a similar issue before and could help me find a way of working without the need to clean cache everytime.
    Many thanks

I have tried this and sadle I get the same grey screen if I save and attempt to reload the project

  • Video looks ok in source window but distorted in Program window.

I am trying to work with video clips shot using a Canon XF 305 at 1280 X 720 at 60P FPS.  Using the Canon XF utility, I have injested the clips from the card to my hard drive where they are stored as MXF files. Using Premiere’s media browser, I imported them into bins from my hard drive.  I set up the sequence to match the clips settings . The video looks fine in the Source window but when I bring over onto the timeline- the same clip looks distorted with artifacts in the program window. I then used Adobe Prelude to convert the MXF files into ProRes 422 LT files with same resolution of 1280 X 720 at 59.94 frames FPS.  I used the media browser to bring those pro-res clips into Premier and set up another new sequence to match the clips setting.  I get the same problem- the video looks good in the source window but terrible in the program window when I bring them into the timeline.  They are completely distorted with artifacts.  This is the first time I have tried working with 1280 x 720 60p fps clips.  I have successfully worked with 1920 X1080P 30P clips from the same camera with no issues.  Any ideas on what I am doing wrong and how to correct my workflow will be appreciated.
I am using a 2009 Intel Mac Pro with Snow leopard 10.6.8

Is your 'Playback and Pause' resolution set to 'Full' for your program monitor?
Also, why not just drag one of the clips to the 'New Item' button at the bottom of the project window to make a sequence with the settings of your clip?

  • No Video plays in Program window but works in source window

I'm using the trial version of Premiere Pro CS6 and I can't get any of the videos I import to play in the program window; only the sound works. If I double click the program window in the general area of where the video should play I get the paused image of the video at wherever the timeline is stopped at. In the source window the video and sound plays perfectly.

Back when Win8 first came out, there were several messages about video not working... with the solution, as I remember, being a video driver update
nVidia drivers updates should be from the nVidia site, for your model card, NOT via Windows Update
    nVidia Driver Updates http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
How to determine your nVidia driver version
Right click in any open area of the Windows desktop
Select NVIDIA Control Panel from the popup window
Select SYSTEM INFORMATION at the lower left corner
Driver version should be the 1st line in Details
    I have a GTX285 using driver 296.10 and Win7

  • Why can't I drag clips from my source window to my program window on Premiere CS6?

I am only able to drag clips from my source window to my timeline, but not to my program window. Anyone know what the problem might be?
Also, the "insert" and "overwrite" buttons are not working from my source window, nor are their shortcuts ("," or "."). I think the problem with the insert and overwrite buttons is related to the reason I can't drag clips from my source window to my program window. Any advice on either problem would be much appreciated, thanks!

Be sure the appropriate tracks are both targeted and routed.

  • Program window is slightly zoomed in versus the source window

Hello, I've used final cut for years and have switched over to premiere, I have cs5.5.  My question is:  I have imported the .mov file and viewed it in the source window, it looks great, when I put that into the timeline, double click it into the program window, the entire image is zoomed in a little, cutting off parts of the edges and the top and bottom, I exported the file thinking it would revert back to the original, but it's still zoomed in.  Is there settings that can match the source to the program?  What am I doing?  Thanks so much, Newbie

Well, the Source Monitor shows the file, in a player, from the HDD. The Program Monitor shows the Timeline, and the Clips on it, for editing. They are different.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows with iTunes 10.5.1?

why can i see only one picture in the illustration windows since iTunes 10.5.1?

Assuming Apple doesn't eviscerate the files of the secondary graphics with another upgrade, there could be a plug in that reads the graphic and runs along side iTunes..we should get someone or Apple to program an alternative If we have to accept this downgrade in iTunes proper.
I've developed a quick workaround, and am still hoping Apple will fix this!
Go To Get Info on the tune you want to see secondary artwork for.
    Go To the Artwork tab
Drag the back cover to the desktop, and it will create a new jpg you can open with quick viw or prieview where you can see it large!
you end up with a lot of jpgs on the desktop to discard!

Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035
As suggested above I assume this is a microsoft issue?  It has been discussed here and other forums for quite some time.  I never have seen a fix?  I wish when we received errors of this nature microsoft would tell us what they were.  How is this related to superfetch?  What is superfetch?  Why would superfetch have changed?
BY THE WAY....  Superfetch is on(started) is on automatic and logs on as local system.  So this is not the cause of my issue.  Also what is readyboot?  Does the average computer really know what these programs/services or unique microsoft words/terms are?

  • Nothing plays in the Program window.

    Hello,
I'm a new user to Premiere Pro and I recently downloaded it and started working on it. I'm using Mac OSX 10.8.5
I was working on a project that someone had given to me, I opened it and everything was working fine and then inexplicably nothing would play in the program window. When I scrub the playhead I can hear the audio and the sequence progresses in the Program window, but when I press play it does absolutely nothing, it doesn't even play a single frame. All clips still play just fine in the source window.
While I am admittedly a novice on Premiere Pro this strikes me as a very peculiar problem as it seemed to happen out of nowhere, one moment it was working, the next it wasn't.
I've tried restarting, saving the project in a different location, logging in with a different user and always with the same result, the sequence just won't play.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi Arjun,
When I right click on a clip and and create a new sequence it works fine.
So I tried creating a new sequence, and then copied and pasted everything from the sequence that wasn't playing into the new one and it plays now though playback is not very smooth, other than that it's working fine.
Jude - it was the entire sequence that wouldn't play, not just one video track.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Two Program Windows?

    Hey,
I just have a short question: How do I open two program windows in Premiere?
The new multiple timeline feature is really cool, but it would be cool to have two timelines open and one program window for each timeline instead of 1 program, 1 source.
    Thanks in advance!
    Philip

    Fillern1 wrote:
Yeah, that doesn't really do it. because both are still connected to the same timeline, although not the same time in the timeline.
It's basically just to have a quick full size scrubbing area to quickly see and select shots to drag from one timeline to the other. So you can use the timeline to scrub instead of scrubbing in the monitor windows, plus the scrub head and monitor window will remain when you click over to to the other timeline.
You can do that in CC2014.1 by opening the second sequence via the media browser...
Save your current project then navigate to it via the media browser and open the sequence you want as a 'source-side' sequence.
This will open in the source monitor and open a timeline appended (Source Monitor)
you can 'pancake' the two timelines for simultaneous comparison between source and program.
There is a danger here though... I'm not sure you are supposed to do this / I don't think this has been thought all the way through - I was able to get a spinning beach ball by editing a sequence into itself (Avid always makes you make a dupe to avoid this).

  • How to Zoom and Pan in the program window.

    Hi,
I have been using scale to adjust larger than 4K image sequences so they fit 1080 and 4K output. I want to be able to zoom in and pan/tilt the program window so I can see the edges of the program window close up, so I can see to make a fine adjustment of scale. I want to be able to adjust scale precisely so I don't lose a single pixel, or include any black around the edges of the images. Of course I can't see the edges close up enough while looking at the entire image, to really see if I have scaled too much or too little. I know how to zoom in the program window, but how do I pan over to the side and bottom edges ? Without being able to pan I instantly lose the edges of the frame when I zoom in the program window.

Perhaps this will help it make sense to you.
I am taking tme lapse sequences shot on a DSLR and putting them onto Blu Ray disks for viewing. I also outputted a 4K file to try to play at Best Buy on a 4K television. The images are  4928 X 3280 pixels, which is larger than 4K, and much larger than 1080. One of the advantages of using these large images directly and not reducing them in Photoshop first is that I can have a time lapse zoom, which is very difficult to achieve otherwise. I can also pan and tilt. Another advantage is not having to reduce thousands of images three times, once for 1080, once for 4K, and once for stills..
I usually work with 1080 video, and animated 1080 still sequences from Maya, or standard definition video. This is the my first opportunity to work with higher resolutions.
Generally, for my first evaluation of these DSLR stills, i wanted to show some of them fully without cutting any off. This means there is a black border onthe sides because the DSLR stills are 2:3 instead of 9:16. For this I have used a scale of 32.6% for 1080, and 66% for 4K. For some sequences i wanted to just completely fill the frame. For this I used 38.9% for 1080, and 77.9% for 4K.
My assumption is that Premier should do scaling as well as Photoshop does, and so  I have let Premier do the work, saving me a lot of extra work. First i take all the original images and process them from raw to tiff, for the day exposures. Then i process them again for the night exposures. Then i bring them into either my 1080 project, or my 4K project. I put the night pictures above the day pictures on a separate video track. I use opacity to dissolve from the day to night processed images as night falls inthe scene.
Two sequences I shot are of the night sky during the recent meteor shower. After watchign the video I see i caught three instances of persistent meteor trails distorting in the sky. I was able to zoom in quite a bit, and track the position, because the sequence is of greater resolution than the native 1080 format. It gives me a second change at composition, or the ability to zoom in on something interesting that happens in the scene.
It seems to me that the only reason i would want to first process the images down to 1080 in Photoshp, would be if the quality of the scaling was higher in Photoshop.
When i adjust the scale, I am adjusting the scale of an image that is 4928 X 3280, in the program monitor which is probably only well less than 1000 pixels on my screen. It would be nice if I could not only zoom, but pan in the program window, so I could more accurately adjust scale by looking at the edges. So if there is no other way to do this visually, I am suggesting adding the ability to pan and tilt in the program monitor to accomplish this. Sure I could figure out the scale mathematically. I could still end up adding a row of black pixels, or cutting off a row of image pixels, due to some error such as rounding errors, or starting with 1 instead of zero, or vice versa.

  • Can't work out how to get timeline footage to play full size in the Program Window...

I'm using Premiere Pro CS3. The footage I import plays fine in the Source Window, but is at a more reduced, "boxed-in" size in the Program Window when I put it onto the timeline.
I know that i can stretch the image to fit the frame, but I'm worried about losing quality if I do that.. The Zoom Level is set to "Fit", so I'm not completely sure what else to do... Any help would be much appreciated...

Hi Bill, thanks for the welcome!
The Frame Size of my original Source Footage is 720 X 404
I've set my Project Preset to DV-PAL - Widescreen 48kHZ, which upon inspection, is 720 X 576, so I'm guessing that's what the problem is..?
I've tried going into Custom Settings to change the Frame Size, but the boxes are "greyed out", not allowing me to change them..
Any ideas on how to best move forward? Cheers.

  • Multicam Program Window camera options missing

    Hello all.
I am using multicam for the first time. All has been well for a few hours but now the different camera views that I click on in the program window have disappeared so I can no longer perform live switching. The current selected view in a larger frame to the right still remains. I can still change the camera view for a clip using the source window but that's no use for live switching.
I have tried clicking on the spanner icon and checked that 'multicam' is selected.
I have tried deleting plists, repairing permissions and rebooting but no joy.
I am using Premiere Pro CC v8.1.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Duncan.

I have tried Adobe live chat and got a solution.
Multi-camera editing doesn't like custom layouts.....which is ironic because, by definition, a multi-camera shoot is going to generate a lot of footage to organise.
If you set up a new project with a standard screen layout and use only one monitor then import your old project into this new one, multi-camera works again.
I have also learned that audio offset does not work if you sync video via audio and AME won't render a multi-cam sequence, I have to render from the sequence itself.
I have gone back the old way of editing 3 layers of video. It's so much faster than trying to figure out the multi-camera bugs!
