No picture on isight - just green

Hello could someone help me?
My isight was working fine, but now when i open photo booth i simply get a plain green background and no image; If i take a picture, the picture is also a blank green photo. It was working fine until a about 2 days ago?
What has happened?

Hi Ralph. A separate Hardware Test CD came with my G5 DP. The G5 also had separate OS, software Install and Software Restore discs. However, my newest Mac has all its included software on only two discs.
On my new PowerBoook, the Hardware Test is on the Mac OS Install Disc (DVD) 1. The Hardware Test Readme File there tells how to access the test: restart the computer with the DVD in the drive while holding down the "option" key to reveal the Hardware Test Disc start-up option.
This process works. The "option" start reveals three choices: the hard disk, the Software Install Disc, and the Hardware Test Disc. The last two are apparently partitions on the OS Install DVD.
Poster should look for a Hardware Test Readme file for info on how his new MacBook Pro is configured.

Why?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

Isight camera green light blink

My isight camera green light blinks every two seconds, when I try to use facetime or any other application of isight. And of course, the camera is not working.
I'm using a Macbook Pro, just bought it a month ago.
Does anyone have the same problem or have a way to solve this annoying issue?

Yes. Your retailer does. He can either: (1) determine whether your new Mac needs repair or replacement, or (2) show you how to make your camera work correctly.

Can i make a book in iPhoto without using any of the built in layout templates, which are too limiting when i have already cropped my pictures to show just what I want. Ideally I just want to drag and drop and arrange and size the pictures myself

If you have Pages you can create customs pages for your book as TD suggested. If you have Pages from iWork 09 or 11 this app will add 80 or so additional frames to those offered: Frames and Strokes Installer. Don't use it on the latest Pages version, however.
This tutorial shows how to create a custom page with the theme's background: iP11 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book. Once the page is complete to get it into iPhoto as a jpeg file follow these steps:
Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3 - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE: If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 300 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto. For books to be printed choose 300 dpi.

Found my answer in another thread- this is what I did
GO to System Preferences > Users > Right Click on your Name > Advanced Options > and refresh your UUID
Restart your System and the widgets are all back
This solution worked fine for me!

My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails. I have to open each one to see what photo it is. This has just recently started to happen.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked. This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).

If you mean the Cover Flow, that was removed when iTunes updated to version 11(through to the latest version 11.03.42)

Well thank you for your honesty. Apple requires you have to have a Mac to develop iPhone apps, ergo my foray into OS-Xland. No way around it that one except for running OSX in a VM, which would have probably saved me some quid, true enough.
BUT for those interested parties: VirtualBox has a startup script in /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox that will prevent OSX from fully booting on the initial (and required) rEFIt boot cycle. Once I temporarily moved that out of the StartupItems rEFIt went in as expected.
FYI, the openSUSE desktop running native is a little peppier than OSX native which was a nice surprise. Now if the Mac just had more open source software we would have a deal. (:

I have a iMac G5 iSight .
I Work with my iSight after I buy it .
After 6 month I Installed Yahoo Messenger 3 Beta After That in yahoo messenger I make a video chat with my iSight for few times , Then When I restart my computer I never Saw Any picture from my iSight .
I think Some Of the system resource file for iSight damage an I try to install new OS 10.4.7 and iSight Still show Green Picture .
Please Help me What Can I Do to solve This problem .

Video recorded with external iSight has green dot in it.

Anybody have any idea why any video recorded by my external iSight has a green dot in it. Almost seems like the power light is somehow being reflected into the housing.

That's not very good news at all. If that's the problem I'm sure it has a lot to do with how hot it gets. I've even noticed it gets really warm and it hadn't been turned on in weeks. Just being plugged in made it hot.

hi, it seems like its a common but or some like that but yes, my iSight does have a green screen just after updating from mac os 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, weirdo thing is that when i boot to windows partition, iSight works well (poor image quality) but works....
is there a new driver for iSight? or is there a permanent fix on that green screen?

Grainy Picture in iSight

Howdy all
Just a quick question, my iSight camera seems to give a particularly grainy picture. Noticed it when I set up iChat with my brother (he's on a MacBook) and his picture was remarkable better than mine. We were sitting across from one another in the same room, and even switched places in case it was simply bad lighting. not sure what the problem is really.
Afraid I'm not sure how to post a picture in this forum so that you guys could have a look at what I'm talking about.
Anyone had this problem before? Purchased the laptop approx 5 or 6 months ago.

I have the same problem only this solution didn't work for me. The weird thing with my camera is that it was fine yesterday, but today the picture has a kind of yellowish, slightly mottled appearance.
It's not application specific or user specific - already tried that.
Anyone else had this?

Isight and green screen

please help, i got my macbook last monday and the isight and photo booth was working fine. i don't know if this is an indicator of anything but the light to the left of the camera isn't on while the light to the right of it is.
basically when i open photobooth all i get is a green screen. it's able to capture images but just of the plain screen. it doesn't get recognized on yahoo messenger either.
i don't use ichat or classic, so those programs aren't running when i try to access photobooth (besides, photobooth and ym used to be able to work at the same time).
i've tried deleting the plist from the preferences, and i've set the color display to millions. still nothing.

actually 'restarting' the thing. Please let me know

Thank you for the suggestion. I did just that, and somehow, the camera was working fine. At first I restarted using the restart function, but this didn't work. What works is shutting down completely and manually turning the computer back on.
On another note, I think I experienced a random shut down yesterday. A menu popped up asking me (in several languages) to restart my computer. So I did just that. Mac OS X acknowledged the unexplained shut down, but provided no reason for it. I hope it doesn't happen again!

Built-in isight just absolutley not working.

Hello everybody.
I have been racking my brains now for about a week over the lack of fuctionality of my isight camera. I bought my MacBook at the end of January, and then, on the 21st March, the camera just stopped working. In PhotoBooth I get the message "in use by another application..", and no other application recognises it.
On the 22nd of March, the camera worked again, briefly, by "opening with Rosetta". Someone had mentioned this somewhere. I don't know what Rosetta does, but this only worked once for me anyway.
For information, my isight camera does NOT appear in System Profiler. I suspect this is not good news.
Having browsed the articles in this forum, I have performed all the following:
Updated to all the latest software.
Checked to see whether the problem is user-specific (it isn't)
Have created a new new account (didn't help)
Permissions repair (lots of times by now)
Safe boot and restart
Restarts (lots of those too)
A disk repair
PMU resets
PRAM resets
Have looked for odd files. "MyDSC_905" seemed to be problematic, but it's not on my computer.
Apple_isight.kext IS on my computer, but whether it's functional or not is another matter.
Now although I'm good at following these sorts of instructions, I don't really know what I'm doing, so any explanation would be good! I try not to do anything too drastic.
As concerns USB devices, the only ones that have EVER been attached to this mac (and because it's fairly new, I can remember) are two Canon Digital cameras and a USB mouse. Neither of these devices have caused problems in the past.
However, I do have the distinct advantage of when my isight stopped working. I have recently been searching the computer for updates and things that took place on this date. The ones I have found are:
2007-03-21 21:29:42 +0100: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.5)
2007-03-21 21:29:46 +0100: Installed "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002" (1.0)
2007-03-21 21:30:03 +0100: Installed "iPhoto Update" (6.0.6)
2007-03-21 21:30:23 +0100: Installed "iTunes" (7.1.1)
2007-03-21 21:34:29 +0100: Installed "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" (10.4.9)
But unfortunately, I think I probably tried to get everything up to date as a means of trying to get the isight working again, so alas! it was probably not the update's fault.
Does anybody else know of any software/hardware conflicts/issues/terrors/bugs that I should be aware of? I think I have exhausted the web as a source of reference on this issue. I would like to now rack people's minds. Or is it perhaps just time for me to send the computer back, since I'm still well within my extended warranty? (However, this is really a last resort, because I need/want my computer almost constantly for work and play)
Any suggestions, humourous or not, greatly and utterly appreciated in this dull and webcamless life;)

re: reinstall, I doubt that Reinstalling Mac OS X will cure a failure of System Profiler to recognize iSight, but I think it is worth a try because it is the only thing I can suggest other than going back to the store.
I have seen more users report fixes from proper application of the Combo Updaters (which I know you have already tried) than from reinstalling the OS. However, if you decide to try a reinstall, you can use the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel) to get back to 10.4.9 in one update step. That would give you the benefit of one more try at a "Combo" fix in addition to trying the reinstall that Apple suggests. (Repair permissions before and after the Combo install.)
Once fixed, other than future possible conflicts, I would think your iSight should work without further problem. If the OS fix or other suggestions here do not resolve your problem, your iSight is likely one of the few that needs professional repair by an Apple-Authorized Service Provider Technician.
If you are too far from anywhere, all Macs come with complimentary support during the first 90 days of ownership."
Following the links there lets you "Learn how to contact Apple for support and service." Therefore, if you cannot get back to the Apple Store, you have other options for support, but I hope you do not need to exercise them.
