  • Issues with Quicktime in Mavericks. I cant export to quicktime codecs in After Effects Or Premiere

    Hi,
I recently updated to OS Mavericks. And in the beginning I really liked the update, but I recently fired up my After Effects CC and Premiere CC to work on some animation videos I had to produce for client. And when I wanted to export my animation. I could not find my Quicktime Codec settings like. H264, Mp4, Apple Pro res or any other quicktime codec. I read some articles on issues with Mavericks/Qucktime and this export problem in After Effects and Premiere. But I could not find a solution. It used to work on 10.8.5!
I tried this... But it did not work ;-(

I tried to uninstall perian. But did not help at all. They even discontinued the product.
Does anyone else stumbled on this problem? Or maybe has a solution? I thought of downgrading to 10.8.5 But that is not ideal because I don't have a Time machine Backup from that period or earlier. And otherwise I have to collect all my data, emails, pictures etc. I seriously could use some help!

After uninstalling and reinstalling the entire Adobe CC suite and all QuickTime components I was still dead in the water. I then tried another User account on my computer and AE and AME worked perfectly with fast startup and all QT/H.264 components in place. This established the problem was in my main User directory...
After some backing up, I deleted all Adobe and com.Adobe.whatever files from User/Library/Preferences and then restarted the computer. I then copied all Adobe and com.Adobe.whatever files from the other user folder and restarted and found that After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder were working perfectly:

  • Messed up colors with quicktime h264 output

    Hello to you all,
Probably not the first time this is mentioned on the apple forum, but I still can't find a working solution for this problem:
Whenever I output a h264 file with quicktime, my colors are messed up.
I have a red car on video. It's red in the original AVCHD MTS file viewed with VLC, it's still red when converted to AIC with voltaic and viewed in Quicktime. But then it happens, exporting to h264 results in a red car with a light blue cast over it, it looks purple!. Both in VLC and Quicktime.
Tried colorsync filters, probably every existing combination, only makes things worse.
Tried to attach other color profiles with automator, only makes things worse.
    I have a wonderfull screenshot of this...hmm I can't attach pictures into this forum...or can I ?
Does anyone know why my car is red in the original raw footage, still red in the AIC file and NOT red but slightly purple in the h264 export.
    My settings for h264 output:
    Bitrate 24Mbps. Multiple cycles.

Wrong forum. This one is to support the FCS application COLOR. It isn't to discuss the vagaries of how your software interprets color information.
You will get better response by posting your question in the forum on this Apple site dedicated to the software you are using for the transcoding.

  • Using ac3 with quicktime.

Ihave recently tried to add the AC3 component to quicktime by "dropping" it in the /library/quicktime folder and have had no results, I have only a picture with no sound to go with it can anyone suggest another/the right way to repair this?

You must quit and relaunch QuickTime after installing third party components.
The software is probably not "Intel" aware. If you have an Intel machine you'll need to use Rosetta.

  • How to open MPG files with Quicktime PRO

I have just bought my first Mac.
I have a lot of videos, that I did with my Sony DVD webcam,
and I used the sony software to download them.
All of them are in MPG extension.
Not MPEG2 or other, just MPG.
    But the Quick time says:
The movie could not be opened.
The file is not a movie file.
How can I open them ?
    Thanks

I just need the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component, right ?
As indicated above, you need both the QT MPEG-2 Playback component (handles the MPEG-2 video data only) and an application like MPEG Streamclip (free) to handle the demultiplexing of the "muxed" data and act as a data bridge to the QT environment. Basically you are dealing with two somewhat different methods of storing and playing data. In the first case, the audio and video data is stored in "blocks" of data that are spatially interspersed in a single data stream to maintain physical synchronization. QT, on the other hand, is based on multiple tracks of data which are synchronized temporally to an external clock. The problem is changing the former to the later and keeping the audio and video content in proper synchronization.
So, today I bought the QuickTime pro and just thinking about editing the films in imovie, it will be of no help then... right?
As indicated above, MPEG-1/2 files are "playback" only compatible with QT and then only if the correct QT components are installed. They are only partially "conversion" compatible since QT, by itself, can only handle the video or the audio data but not both at the same time which is necessary for temporal synchronization of both to a common clock reference. Further, since source data does not have common time references for both audio and video data, it cannot be edited in its "muxed" state in time based app like QT. So if you were planning on using QT 7 Pro and the MPEG-2 Playback component to convert your files to an iMovie editable format, then yes, you wasted your money buying a QT 7 Pro key here. On the other hand, QT 7 Pro can convert/edit MPEG-2 content which is stored as elementary data streams (i.e., separate tracks) of data within a file container. In addition, if you plan to layer, scale, mask, etc. content (i.e., picture-with-picture, picture-in-picture, backgrounded video, etc. effects), then QT 7 Pro would be very useful for "quickie" edits not requiring a full-blown video editor. (I personally recommend having both QT 7 Pro and MPEG Streamclip installed as each has complementary editing features not found in the other.)

  • Picture in Picture with Greenscreen possible?

    Sup!
So.. let's say I'm doing a news report and basically I have someone filmed in the bottom right of a green screen. Then I'm going to superimpose that footage with a movie clip running behind them. Then I want a completely separate movie clip(picture in picture effect) to be to the left of them in a small box. Is this possible?
Take away the green screen part and the picture in picture effect works perfectly by dragging a clip on top of another clip and clicking PICTURE IN PICTURE. If a green screen effect is already added it doesn't let me use the PICTURE IN PICTURE effect.
    This is my dilemma.
    Help!
    Thanks

    it's Green-Screen OR pic-in-pic ...-
    what you can do:
    • create as an individual 'project' your green-screen scenery.
    • choose Share/Export with Quicktime, and Option/Codec: AppleIntermediate.
    • re-import newly generated mov into your EventsLib and into your Main Project, add PIP-effect.

  • Problem with QuickTime Movies From iMovie HD

I posted this earlier (on the second day of Leopard's Release), and did not get much feedback, and so thought I'd try again after people have had time to run Leopard.
I have some movies that I created using iMovie HD. I have the QuickTime version of the movie for use with Front Row.
On my G5 iMac running Leopard, the quality of the movies on Front Row is fine. However, in Leopard, the quality is lousy. The movies were made from still photos, using the Ken Burns effect. There are also transitions. On the web, on my iWeb site, the pictures take a while to come into focus. I sort of expect this on the web. However, I've found the same thing with the movie files using Front Row on Leopard. Again, this slowness in coming into focus does not appear when playing the movie on Front Row on Tiger on a G5 iMac.
Curious if anyone else has encountered problems/issues with QuickTime movies files from iMovie HD. And if so, what if any fixes are available.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

Hmmmm, so it works OK in Front Row but NOT in Quicktime player? Thats odd. Front Row works worse for me!
It sounds like it may be a rendering problem with Quicktime - It has to process the file in general (or parts of the file, for example, if you export 10 pics looped in Flash, it has to process the 10 image files each time it plays it through, resulting in the first 4 or 5 images to shoot out jerkily [read LAG] unlike the rest of the movie, which is smooth). If these images in your movie are large in file size or contain tons of wacky photoshopped effects, etc, that might be whats causing the problem.
I'd check everything is updated to the latest version, repair permissions on the disk in Disk Utility, and then see if anythings improved.
    Hope this helps you.

  • How do you rotate a picture in quicktime

How do you rotate pictures in quicktime?

Drat it all ... Sorry, that's Videos I gave you instructions for, not pictures.
Pictures, I don't think you need Pro for.
Right-click the image file you want to rotate. Select "Open with > PictureViewer" or "Open with > Choose Program" and select PictureViewer from the list.
In PictureViewer, go "Image > Rotate Left" or "Image > Rotate right".
Once you've got it rotated, go "File > Export" and choose a filename and filetype. Then save the rotated version.

  • Trying to watch an MPEG 4 movei with quicktime

Hello everyone, i have been looking for a forum for quicktime but I didnt see one and this forum says general questions, so here I go.
I have a copy of a movie and when I opened I can here the sound but no picture. Im playing it with quicktime. Is there something I can do, do I need a plug in or something like that?
    It says 264- jb.mp4.

    HI Gonzo,
FYI: Here is the link to the QuickTime Discussion Forums:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=122
And... make sure your QuickTime software is up to date. Launch QT, then in the Menu click QuickTime/Update Existing Software.
Make sure your QT Preferences are set correctly. Launch QT, click QuickTime/Preferences.
For better exposure for this particular QT issue, please use the link above and post your question there.

  • Rotation of picture in quicktime?

    hello,
can someone tell me how to make a rotation of picture in quicktime?
    thanks

Rotating the image requires QT Pro. Open MovieProperties, click on the video track and then open Visual Settings. You should then see bottons with circular arrows that rotate 90 degrees left or right.

  • .php associated with Quicktime as movie! Global reset impossible.

After the latest System/Quicktime update all my .php files are associated with Quicktime.
Using Get Info -> Open with: TextEdit.app works for a single file.
Using Change All ... resets everything to QuickTime again regardless of the setting and the text in the Change All panel.
Who had this BRILLIANT idea of using the .php extension for Quicktime !?!?!?
This person should be immediately awarded a Nobel price for creative nonsense!

What is the best way to tell,
The "About" window contains the QT symbol with the word "Pro" superimposed on it, The Registration window says QT 7 Pro" below the key, you can export to other compression formats, you can acces the properties window, etc.
    and how do I upgrade?
You purchase and enter a QT 7 Pro key from the Apple store for $29.99 to unlock the QT 7 Player's "Pro" features.
Also, is there an easier way of dropping in a new image to the movie's "Get info" besides taking a screenshot of the exact frame I want?
Depends on what you consider "easier" and whether or not you want the frame taken from the file or somewhere else. With QT Pro you can simply select the exact frame desired and "export" it as a "Picture" for dropping in the "Info" Window. Sometime I create a custom frame in Photoshop using a background and title of my own making or simply "trim" a teatrical poster, DVD, or video cassette image to use as a custom Finder icon image. The basic question is, "How much work do you want to invest and how good do you want it to look?" The choices are entirely up to you.
FYI: If you don't have QT 7 Pro, you can gain many (but not all) of the "Pro" features using the free MPEG Streamclip application available on the Internet.

  • Can no longer playing my own podcasts with QuickTime on Mac.

When checking my latest Garage Band podcast, I got ? in Q with message to download latest QuickTime. I did that but still get ? in Q. I can play my podcasts on PC with QuickTime in Windows XP, but not on my Mac. My 2GHz Macbook is new and has no additional software to interfere. It will, however, play some other podcasts from iTunes, though only some. My podcast address is http://web.mac.com/daveyesitsme
    David Powell
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 GHz Intel Core2 Duo

No more ? in Q. Roger, thanks for confirming that the problem was not my Garage Band podcasts. After further, failed investigations with settings, I downloaded Firefox browser, as suggested by a previous post. Using Firefox my podcasts open perfectly with QuickTime 7.1.6. Why not in Safari? - beats me. Glad you checked.
    David Powell
Your podcasts play OK on my G4 iMac with 10.3.9. and
QT 7.0.4. I believe the latest version of QT has been
causing problems (not for the first time), so I have
avoided it: but anyway the problem is local to your
Mac, the podcasts are fine. You could try asking in
    the QuickTime forum.

  • Remote Not Working With QuickTime 7.3.0

Hi I just upgraded and realized my frontrow remote has stopped working with Quicktime. The remote works with VLC, iTunes etc but not QT. Forget about scanning forward or backward it cant even adjust the volume. I never had the problem before. I have tried playing both avi and mp4 files.
I run Tiger and have a macbook

    As a follow up -
I spoke with Apple Support about this and was routed to a few people who were helpful, and moved it up to the engineers of Keynote (and the white remote?) for a solution.
A few days later I received this reply:
Hello Eric, I have heard back from the engineers about this. It looks like as long as Keynote 6.0 is present on the system it will default to using the remove in that application. If you remove Keynote 6.0, which we would not recommend, then you can use Keynote 5.3 with the remote. Presently though this is normal and expected behavior.
I replied by expressing my disappointment that this wasn't functional, since I'm not comfortable using Keynote 6.0 yet.  Short of uninstalling 6.0, the only workaround I have found is to use the iPhone/iTouch Keynote remote app, or make a duplicate copy of your presentation to be opened in 6.0 (and using the remote there).

  • Need Help with QuickTime to Apple TV Export Weirdness

I am having a problem using QuickTime Player 7 Pro to convert a movie file in its original 1280x720 size for use with Apple TV. (iMovie creates a 960x540 file for Apple TV by default and the only way to get a 1280x720 file is to have iMovie use QuickTime to export it as a .mov file in that size and convert it to a .m4v file for Apple TV separately, with QuickTime Player 7 Pro. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to produce the 1280x720 file that is compatible with Apple TV.
To demonstrate my issue, I exported two projects from iMovie, both using the Export via QuickTime menu option, set at Movie to QuickTIme Movie, 1280x720, H.264, 24fps:
    - Movie 1 is an 8:20 video. (All library video taken by the same camera and imported into iMovie at the same time).
    - Movie 2 is a :15 test video using a clip from the same source as Movie 1.
Next, I used QuickTime Player 7 Pro to export Movie 2, the short test clip, using the Movie to Apple TV setting. It  yielded a 1280x720 .m4v file, just as I wanted. With that test completed, I moved on to the full video.
When I exported Movie 1, the full 8:20 movie, using exactly the same setting in QuickTime Player 7 Pro, it produced a 960x540 .m4v file! Repeated exports yielded the same results.
How can this happen? How do I get the1280x720p Apple TV-compatible file that I want?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have exported movies from iMovie many times with the "Export using QuickTime/Movie to QuickTime Movie" Share menu option. Despite the fact that Apple literature states that TV1 will play an H.264/AAC 1280x720, 24fps MOV file, I have never been able to get one to play. It won't even sync. (I get an error message stating the sync didn't work because the file is incompatible with TV.)
Sorry for the delay in responding. Wanted to check a couple of files on the TV1. Don't have many files encoded at 720p24 and have re-converted most for better AC3 DD5.1 quality at 640 Kbps for the TV2 units.. In any case, wanted to make a quick check to see if they still played with increased specs after the last update. Files play but only for a few seconds before freezing. Thought it might be to to wireless streaming to the TV1 so I tried synching a test file but it played the same way. Only files that still play are 540p30 files. Not sure if they have really "killed" 720p or not as a couple of trailers (Thor and Captain America) play at 1280x544 (i.e. 2720 macro-blocks) which is significantly more than my 960x540 (2040 macro-block) files. Might be interesting to see if a 960x720 PAR encoded file will still play on the TV1. (Not that it would help you but it is a matter of some curiosity for me.)
I spent much time at my Apple retail store trying to see what I may have done wrong. The Apple Geniuses there confirmed with me that TV1 will not play this type of file. (I have no experience with TV 2, but I would be surprised if the results were different.
Then be prepared to be surprised. The TV2 plays the 720p files just fine even with the increased audio data rate for the secondary AC3 DD5.1 surround sound. In fact, I am seriously considering the retirement of the TV2 so I can watch all files without having to worry about frame rates. (Besides, my wife keeps complaining that the bedroom TV (the TV1 unit) doesn't play her Netflix "chick flicks."
I just tried renaming the MOV file to M4V. It now syncs with my TV. Unfortunately, it still won't play. The error message on the screen states "The format was not recognized."
Strange, my files are recognized, stream, sync, and play (albeit with frozen video as sound continues) whether I use a real M4V or MOV file container. (Don't have an MP4 720p file to test at the moment.)
So, I am forced to export and then convert. That said, I am embarrassed (but happy) to admit that I found the solution to my QT 7 Pro problem. As I experimented further today,I found that my test file (Movie 2) was exported by iMovie at 24 fps and the full movie was exported at 30 (29.97) fps. QT 7 Pro must have forced the conversion to 960x540, which would be the only way a 30fps file would play on TV. Once I corrected the setting and exported again at 24fps, the QT 7 Pro conversion to 1280x720 worked as it should.
Glad you were able to settle that issue.
If you or anyone knows of a way to export from iMovie into a 1280x720, 24 fps format guaranteed to be compatible with TV1, please post instructions. Until then, I will have to keep using an intermediate export first and then Handbrake or QT 7 Pro to convert.
It's not really possible to guarantee that every file will be playable since the content actually drives the encoder and may require changes to user settings on occasions. However, having said that, I take it you did not try the "Export using QuickTime.../Movie to MPEG-4 Movie" Share menu option previously suggested. It will allow you to create an H.264/AAC 720p24 TV1 compatible MP4 file directly from iMovie. Here is a "quickie" file I exported from iMovie moments ago which plays on my TV1.
