No pictures load on Front Row

I can do everything with Front Row, except access my pictures on iPhoto. Any ideas?

Thanks, I will take a look at your thread. An update in my case: iPhoto wouldn't load at all. The error I got was something about a problem with permissions. I tried to rebuild the directory / repair permissions with Disk Warrior, but after that, my MacBook's hard drive just died. It wouldn't even mount, so there was no way I could try to repair it. I had planned to do a fresh re-install, since I used the same 10.5 DVD to install to my iMac, and have had no problems with this photo issue. I will get a new MacBook hard drive, reinstall, and see if the permissions / dying hard drive was the issue. I'll let you know what I find out.

  • Subtitle files NOT loading - Quicktime / Front Row / VLC / WMplayer ????

Any help is greatly appreciated! I have downloaded subs so my Thai step son can watch some movies we have.... I'd really like to get this fixed so he can enjoy them too.
I've searched and searched only to find known glitches in both Front Row (no subs showing at all) and in Quicktime after an upgrade...
I'll explain first that I have the subtitles in the same director as the movie, name the same except the extension.
So, I tried every fix I found,.. to no avail. First, I installed VLC, loaded the .ssa (also tried .srt file too) directly into VLC... the suns show, but they're all messed up - not even in the correct language! I verified that I indeed have the font that the file calls - Cordia UPC (they are Thai subs), and I do.
So, I tried WMPlayer... it crashed nearly ever time I tried it, but again... with the subtitles would not show.
On to Perian 'plugin'.. installed it,.. version 1.1.. no dice.
Tried 'Front Row Trailers'.. no dice.
Tried my DIVX player just for the heck of it.. again, no go.
During this process, I re-downloaded the subs from multiple sites to see if there were something wrong w/ the copies I have... opensubs, thaisubtitles, etc.. all have the same outcome.
I know there has to be a way to 1)Get the subtitles to play for ALL the movies we have subs for, not just sporadically... and 2) Show them in the intended language.
To be of as much help as possible I have uploaded both the .ssa and .srt files here:
    http://revivemarketing.org/uploads/movie.srt
    http://revivemarketing.org/uploads/movie.ssa
Again, any help is greatly appreciated! I will also pass the info along as I come across others in the same situation.
    Thanks again,
    Jesse

so all of the shows like the ABC Family shows that are there are free me to watch as i please?

  • I am not understanding this Bonjour photo sharing thing with front row.

I just finished seting up my media center with a 37 inch Olevia. WOW
Anyways, what I am not understanding is I have iphoto set up on the other two compuers as sharing photos and the MINI is set to see them. Do I have to have iPhoto RUNNING on the other two computers so that I can RETRIEVE the photos on the mini? That seems so wrong. Can I just access the other computers photos and view them on my wireless network to the mini? I thought this is what this bonjour is all about...or do I have to copy the photos to the mini for viewing?
    Thanks

    You are most welcome.
I understand the frustration - but when you step back and think about reliability, it makes sense to have one application to do one thing. If front row had to handle the slide show - it would be bulky and whenever a new feature was developed (or bug fixed) - the code would have to be added and tested in both iPhoto and Front Row. By keeping front row thin, simple and intuitive - it gets to market cheaper and more reliably. Isn't that really why we use Mac?
iPhoto's job is to organize pictures. A lot of sophisticated things happen to add value when you take those "pictures in a flat folder" and import them - color correction, cropping, rotation, grouping into an album, ordering of the photos, settings for the slide show - music, fade effect, ken burns/zoom, etc...
I have those applications set to launch automagically when I log in and hide themselves so I never see them until needed. They sit there idle once they load until front row tickles them in the correct manner to feed data over the network to front row...
If you really need some photos to stand alone, you can always export a slide show as a quick time movie. Front Row will play movies remotely with no application running on the other end.

  • Front Row not finding iTunes?

I recently moved all my music to an external hard drive, and since then, I haven't been able to use Front Row. The application starts up perfectly, but when I go to find any music to play, it says there is no music to be found. The message that pops up is "Front Row can't find any songs. Use iTunes to import songs or purchase songs from the iTunes store."
Anyone have any ideas on how to help? Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. I think it is b/c the library is also on my external drive - I think Front Row looks for it in the Music folder. My pictures are in the Pictures folder and Front Row seems to be picking it all right.
Anybody knows how to direct Front Row to search for the library on the external drive?

  • Front Row crashes when loading DVD

Hey, I hope someone can help with this, I am trying to use front row to play a DVD, but after a short while front row closes. Now, as soon as i tell it to play the DVD, when it tries to load it, it just turns off. There is no unexpected closure error message or option to report or anything, it just acts like I closed it. And help or info is appreciated, thanks.

I've actually been having the same problem.
First of all, my DVD player constantly takes forever to load a DVD and/or spits it out; then more recently, Front Row without fail will crash when a DVD ends. Even worse, lately, it won't even play the DVD after repeated attempts to start it.
It's extremely annoying and I can't figure out what to do.

  • Front Row refusing to load trailers

I've never had a problem with front row, but for the first time in a few weeks I thought i'd browse the trailers only to find that front row just stalled on the "loading theatrical trailer" screen.
Itunes movie and tv show trailers load without issue and my internet connection is confirmed as working and also acknowledged by front row.
    Any suggestions warmly received.

Nice to know at least I'm not the only one. Noticing the problem coincided with a system reinstall and a router change so I was concerned it was one of these factors which may have contributed. Despite multiple rounds of troubleshooting I cannot seem to find the route of the problem.
Its worth noting as well that the trailers are streaming perfectly from the apple web site and the network traffic generated from frontrow seems wholly unremarkable.
Thanks for the confirmation that this is a problem

  • Kodak pictures in Front Row??

Does anyone know how i would get pictures from my Kodak Easyshare folder(s) into...where-ever...so when i bring up Front Row i can slideshow them? It says something about "shared photos"...and that their's none in my local network. So i tried putting an alias (are alias and copy the same thing basically...without taking up the room of "copying" the files?) of my "Kodak Pictures" folder in my "network" location but it says "unexpected error -61". So...in short...can anyone give me step by step instructions please???! I'm pretty new to Mac...still learning...i need all the help i can get!
    THANKS!

    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

BUT of course i don't have my entire hard drive for
pictures...songs, apps, etc. Before i go getting rid
of Kodak all together...can i do EVERYTHING with
iphoto as i can with Kodak (refer to ealier post)??
Like i said before...print to my dock?? What is so
great about iphoto (the whole Front Row thing
aside)?...i would like to know because if it is the
case i would have no problem using it. Definitely
    would make life easier.
iPhoto is great for many reasons. It looks great, it has some very powerful editing functions, though it's never difficult to use, and if you've used iTunes, you'll be very comfortable with the iPhoto interface in a very short space of time; it's basically iTunes for photos. As I mentioned above, it integrates well with the other iLife apps. If you're making a DVD in iDVD, or a movie in iMovie, all your photos will be available right from within that application for you to use. The bottom line is, Apple are better at making Mac software than Kodak!
But don't take my word for it, take the iPhoto quicktour. Or better yet, open it up, import some photos (which as far as I know doesn't change the quality) and play around with it. See how you do the things you normally use Easyshare for. My father has an Easyshare printer, and I'm almost certain that you can print from iPhoto with it; but, as I say, give it a go yourself.
It's your Mac, and so the only important thing is how easily you can do the things you want to do, but don't be afraid to try some new things out. You're not going to break anything! (probably)

  • Front Row doesn´t find my pictures

Front Row doesn´t find my pictures in Iphoto - what to do?

Which version of iPhoto are you using?

  • Front Row for pictures is useless to me!

I bought my mac mini to use as a media center, to stream and play eveything from my iMac G5 through the mini connected to my 32" LCD TV. Everything streams fine except photos. Most of the time the slideshow won't work, or after a long hesitation it shows one picture and then just keeps playing the Minuet in G. If I quit out of Front Row and go to iPhoto on the mini, many of the shared pics from the iMac only appear as empty spces with a grey dotted line around them. Sometimes if I click on a space, the pic will fill in, sometimes not.
And that **** music! WHYYYYY can't Front Row do as my iPod does, and go with the option to use music from iPhoto, so that once I have set up an album's slideshow music on my iMac, that carries over to both my iPod as well as through Front Row? I don't want to have to reset music choices everytime I wanna show friends some photos on the TV. iPhoto does not stream the music from the shared photo albums, so if you don't have any music stored on the mini, I am left with Garage Band samples or the Minuet in G.
Finally, Front Row does not seem to be able to read and hold the slideshow preferences for a shared album. Even if I take the time to go into iPhoto and make settings, it will still eventually revert back to the Ken Burns effect.
And here's a thought..what if I just wanna look at a picture through Front Row? I have to start and then pause a slideshow just to look at one pic?
With all this, it's just too frustrating to use for photos.

Although I do all of my picture imports to iPhoto on my MacBook, once a week I connect my MacBook in FireWire Target Disk Mode to my iMac and I copy the whole library over to the iMac. I do the same thing with iTunes. Although I only use my portable computer to manage everything, I copy all of my files over to the iMac. My iMac is connected to the TV and I use Front Row on the iMac to display the picture and music libraries directly from there.
So, your statement shouldn't be "Front Row for pictures is useless to me!", rather it should be "Front Row for shared pictures is useless to me!". This might be a valid statement and there may be things we can help to tweak your settings, but you're right. For the most part shared libraries (pictures or music) are not ideal in Front Row. I would recommend you get a FireWire cable and use your Mac mini as a backup for your iMac's libraries.
Since Front Row will be included with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) when it's released later this year, you probably want your Front Row to work now. So, waiting for an update to Front Row probably is not a good option right now.

  • Front Row crashes loading DVD

There are other topics similar to this one, but not exactly, so here goes...
More often than not, I can't play a DVD in Front Row. The disk goes in (or I hit "Menu" on the remote) and Front Row loads up. I select the DVD option, it indicates its loading the DVD, then it crashes to the desktop with no error messages.
This happens with both Mac-made DVDs and regular movie DVDs. They all play fine with just the DVD player app.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I've actually been having the same problem.

  • Front Row slows when loading 'Artists' from USB Drive

Just started using my Remote and Front Row, but when I select Artists, I get a blank screen for a couple of minutes, I'm assuming while it caches everything - the problem is pretty much the same as everyone posted about in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1412982
Wondered if there is any fix for this, or any planned update to the software?
    Thanks, Dan

Dan - How have you got Front Row version 2.2.1? Is it available for download anywhere?

  • Front Row won't load....

Whenever I try to start Front Row (whether double-clicking the item in the Applications folder, or using the Remote), the screen fades to black like FR is about to start, but then goes right back to my desktop.
My MacBook Pro (and it's included remote ) are barely a week old.
    Any ideas or suggestions, gang?

There shouldn't be any conflicts. Have you tried creating a new user yet? If the same thing happens to a different user, then you have a system-wide or hardware conflict. If the new user is okay, then the trouble is likely related to one (or more) of your user's preference files.

  • Apple Fixed Mini but Forgot to Load Front Row - now what

Hi, my Mac Mini sufferred a hard drive malfunction. Everything was backed up, I have Apple Care and my local apple store replaced the drive and reinstalled the OS. Unfortunately, they forgot to include Front Row.
Is it possible to re-install Front Row from a single downloadable file or do I need to go through the whole OS installation process again?
If I go through the whole installation process again, I think I'll need to reapply all the service packs, fixes, security fixes, and 10.4.9, which I prefer not to do.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Front Row wont play my iphoto library

Do I have too many pictures in my library to load? The screen stays black and no slideshow starts, and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get out of the black screen, cant back out with escape button or menu button on the remote.

Which version of iPhoto are you using? Which version of QuickTime do you have? (You can check in the QuickTime System Preferences.) Do other parts of Front Row work correctly? Does your iPhoto run correctly on its own? I have nearly 50,000 pictures in my iPhoto library and I can sort through them with Front Row. How many pictures do you have?
