No Playback on videos in the Project (PE9)

Hello
I need some help with a serious problem.  I have been having some problems with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for a while.  Whenever I go to playback a video in the project the video won't play, but the audio will.  This goes for what is in the timeline and the actual videos (not in the timeline) when trying to replay them in the program.  Also whenever I move the marker (the thing that represents where you are in a video) if the video changes it is extremley choppy.  Please help.  I am running a Compaq Presario CQ56 Notebook PC with an Intel(P) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20 GHz.  I have 2.00 GB of Installed memory (RAM).  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  My system type is 64-bit.  Please help.

1st, you need lots more memory... 2Gig is BARELY enough to load Win7 64bit... with nothing left over for programs
2nd, a notebook will usually have only one 5400rpm hard drive... you need a 2nd 7200rpm hard drive for all of your video files (see below)
3rd, depending on the type of file you are trying to edit, you may simply not be able to edit at all with a Celeron
4th, what is the type of video graphics adapter, and what is the driver version?

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
Partition = Crash http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957286

  • IDVD - One video in the project goes green, but still plays audio

As far as I can tell, no one has posed my particular problem, but I have complete confidence that I'll get some solid help. I've had 5 or 6 big problems with iDVD and found all the answers in these discussions. So thanks!
My boyfriend is a theater director and I have been putting together his DVD reel using iDVD 7.0.4. I am using the "center stage" theme with no motion or music in the menus. The DVD has slide shows of production shots and video clips.
-> I put the video into the computer by first using a VHS to DVD recorder and then using the program "HandBrake" to rip the DVD into .m4v, then edited them with QuickTime Pro "trim to selection" and saved the clips as .mov self contained movies.(I should add right here that I cannot use iMovie. My computer isn't big enough to run it properly with any kind of speed, and I don't know how to use it and don't currently have the time to learn it)
-> The VHS to DVD recorder inserted chapters every 5 minutes, and all of the clips included 2 or 3 chapter markers. I think the longest video is 8 minutes or so.
-> When I "add a movie" in iDVD and it asks me if I want to add chapter markers for the movies, I tell it no.
->When I preview the DVD in iDVD every video plays with out error.
-> I saved the project as a disk image and the videos were encoded under the "pro quality" setting
-> When I preview with the apple DVD player, every video and slide show plays through without incident except one. One video plays 3 seconds, then the audio skips a beat and the video goes all green. I have no idea why because the 3 other videos from this show came from the same DVD and were processed exactly the same.
    Please Please Help! Thank You!
This is the first DVD that I've ever made, and I could have never done it at all without these discussion pages. I hope some programmer at Apple is reading all these problems and fixing them for the next iDVD...or at least writing down solutions to include in the help menu.

    Hi
I stumbled on the same problem as you. For me everything got messed up after trying to preview my project in fullscreen. Just got a blank black screen and now I can't ad titles or preview the clips! The most annoying thing is that I'm almost finished with the video I spent 4 hours on!
Anyone here now what the cause of this problem can be? Seems like many here have stumbled on it a few times
Edit: Just noticed my whole project seems to be done for! I can't even change the themes and when trying to change the settings of the clips it says "no clips selected" even when I can see they are in my project!? This is really frustrating.

  • Issue with Loading Multiple Videos within a Project

I am assembling a Captivate project that needs to include several videos that a quite large. When the entire project is written as a Windows executable projector file, the player does not open because the operating system cannot allocate enough memory to open the file.
I was adding these videos to the project through the "Event Video" option and browsing to the FLV located on my computer. When the Windows projector is created, it loads the entire video into the executable file.
Is there a way to load a SWF animation that has reference points to the video (located within the same directory as the SWF) so that when the Windows Projector file is written, it does not need to embedd the entire video into the executable file?
I am currently using Captivate 6.0.1.240.

    Just regarding point 2.
You will probably find that working in manageable sections (story logical and file size) will be best practice for all post subsequent to edit.
Ughhh, that is my concern! I'm hoping by having it broken down and organized in self-contained sequences, and by story arc--Prologue, Act One, Act Two...that this will work as good manageble sections as well as easier for story layout.
I hope by only bringing in each edited rough cut sequence into the Dolly Master Project File it will keep the Master file mean and clean. Also, the reason I started with Prelude was in hopes that I would have a more organized structure for editing, but I am not sure if by bringing in the Prelude rough cuts and supporting footage files if that helps or undermines the too large file issue. However, I really do not have a clue as to what things will really make my files too large or too complicated.
A lot of hope there I know!
I try to make it a habit of hitting ctrl-s everytime I complete an action. I have auto-save set to every 15 minutes. I save the project file on two internal hard drives and one external hard drive. At the end of the work day or more often if I have accomplished a lot I email myself a dated/timed copy of the project files. I'm thinking it might be better if I get another dropbox account to have another offsite back-up.
Well, last night I took a Leap of Faith in Adobe Prelude. I established my project files and sent all of my rough cuts to the appropriate project files. I have to say it was pretty painless. In Prelude right-click rough cut > left-click send to Premiere Pro > wait a few seconds.
The only drawback is that I could not select a bin in Premiere in which to send the footage and rough cuts. So I had to drag the footage/rough cut files to the appropriate bin. This would be a nice feature to add.
Here is a link to a pic of my desktop.

So now the story layout begins! Thanks again and again!

  • Idvd won't recognize my imovie from the project library, I've mislabeled it

I created a video in the project library of imovie. Tried to create a dvd, but it didn't show up in the Movie Browser (the way it is supposed to acc'd to page 258 in Jim's '09 book.) I tired exporting it (p248), and somehow did something that ended up with the project labeled as a document!!! Then I tried exporting it as a quick time movie, and was able to create a dvd from that. But when I played it on the TV, the sound track was misaligned with the video and some of the video was unstable. I am totally confused as to what to try next.
The movie as it plays in the project library is great. I'd be happy to have it on a dvd that I could show on TV without chapters or anything fancy. I don't know how to make that happen.
Thanks for any help you could give.

in the iMovie menu bar, -> Share; -> iDVD
to add thumbnail images, you may also have to -> Share; -> Media Browser.
    Hope it helps.

  • Whenever I press spacebar to playback my video project in final cut pro X, the color wheel pops up and freezes the computer. Doesn't matter what computer I use. Why and how do I fix this?

Like I said, I'm doing a simple video and have finally made some progress in editing. All of a sudden, when I try to replay the video the color wheel pops up and nothing works. It just keeps spinning and spinning with no end. I end up having to force quit the program. When I restart it the same thing happens. I've tried it on 3 different computers and the results have been the same. I've read that perhaps the software needs to be updated through the mac store, I did that to no avail. I also read that perhaps the preferences for the project/final cut pro need to be reset. I downloaded a program that is supposed to do this for me but it didn't work I also went into Preferences in Final Cut and hit reset under editing tab which also did not work. I"m really frustrated about this and I"m getting paid for this video. This needs to be resolved ASAP.  Thanks in advance for the help: ask any questions.

Please give complete details of your system and the media and the project properties.

  • Anyone know which render format I should use, my film will be used on a video wall (12 screens) and I need super quality. My footage format is 1080p HD resolution 1920x1080. I will be running the project from a mac with a direct line to video wall. Thanks

I do some VJ-type work, involving playback of QuickTime files from the computer to projections, and I get good results using ProRes 422. That's convenient, because ProRes 422 is such a great editing codec, too.
Traditionally, VJs use PhotoJPEG codec, which also works well, but it's a bad editing codec. So you would have to export an edited master, then convert.
If you want it to look as good as possible, definitely schedule some time to test the footage on the wall. You may want to change the color correction of your footage to match the projectors. And if you feed the video wall some flat gray, you can see if any of the projectors need to be  adjusted.
I'm not sure what application you're using for playback, but QuickTime Player 7 works well. It has an option to play fullscreen on an external monitor (View > Present Movie…).

  • Can I save a project on a flash drive with the videos that are in the project and edit on any computer with premiere pro?

I am trying to edit a home and school and need to edit all the time. Can i save my project file on my flash drive with all the videos and use the flash drive for editing on any computer?

IF all computers are on the exact same build of PrPro. Understand of course that if everything of the project is on one flashdrive, performance in playback & etc. with much in the way of effects or tons of cuts is going to be ... s l o w . But perhaps doable on say a school project, which probably doesn't have the total assets of say a season-length tv sitcom.

  • How can I burn a 60 min Hd video on a PC at best quality, I can't split the project in the timeline.

How can I burn a 60 min Hd video on a PC at best quality, I can't split the project in the timeline?

I replied long before post 7, but my reply did not get posted...instead it remained unsent. I have been having computer Internet connection problems. I was able to recapture it from restore feature of posting. Below is what I wrote.
    Thanks for the reply.
Just in case note....for a regular DVD player, granted it is important to have a video format that the player supports (namely DVD-VIDEO format); however, the other half of the consideration...the player needs to support the disc type (media type) that the video format is on. I do not know of a regular DVD player that supports DVD-VIDEO on a memory stick.
If you have recorded PAL 1080i (1920 x 1080 @ 25 interlaced frames per second), that interlaced video exists with Field Order: Upper Field First.
But, you end product DVD-VIDEO is characterized by Field Order: Lower Field First. If you run into this type of Field Order problem, then there are 2
possibilities to get that taken care of
    a. Assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13....set the project preset (manually) to
    PAL
    Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders
    Full HD 1080i25
    or
    b. Import the source media using
    PAL
    AVCHD
    Full HD1080i15
and then, for each Timeline 1080i, right click it, select Field Options from the pop up menu, and then select Reverse Field Dominance.
When you export to file, you lose the opportunity for menus. The only export to file with menus is found in the webDVD export which is
in reality a flash file with menus. That might be a consideration for playback through the web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
If putting a file on a memory stick is a working possibility, you might want to look also at AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p25, but all depends on the
    support of the player.
Lots to think about. If you need clarification on any of the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • How can I optimize just the video on a project timeline?

    Hi everyone,
I've been working on a 1 hour documentary using original non-optimized media, now that I'm approaching the final steps of the edit I would like to optimize all the video in the timeline, but NOT all the footage I have in the events.
I did NOT optimized my media on import: all my events and project are made up of video non-converted, just imported. I did that because I didn't have enough storage to transcode to ProRes the whole 40 hours of footage.
The folders now full of media in Final Cut Events are the "original media" ones.
Now I'll add some title, subtitles and color-correction and I want to be a little more fast. Then I'll step in the "export" zone, and I know it is much better to export from optimized media than from original media, that's why I want a 'ProRes opimized media' project timeline.
Thank you in advance to anyone with advices!

    Thank you Tom,
at least I know there is no need I keep on wondering "WHY?"...
This impossibility to transcote footage on timeline seem to me a big downside to this new version... I just have in mind all the options for managing media in FCP 7...
    Thank you again,
always read your tips: veru useful!

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

I have consolidate my folders related to the video I am in the progress of working on.  Premiere elements does not follow their new location.  How do I syn them back up all at once so premiere doesn't ask me for their location when I open the project

This is the Photoshop Elements forum, not the Premiere Elements forum, located here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
When you open the project, it should ask you where the first file is located. After you tell it where it is, it should be able to find the rest of them if they are located near the first one.  Then save the file.  If you move the files again, you will have to relink them again.

  • How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?

OK...this is a probably a very basic question but I'm not sure how to word it clearly.
How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project? What I mean is that I have a bout 50 minutes of video and I want to make two DVDs using different clips from this original 50 minutes of footage. It would be a real pain to have to re-import the video AGAIN for the second DVD. I suppose I could drop anything I don't want to burn to DVD back into the clips pane but that would wipe out all my transitions wouldn't it? I want to save each project in their “raw” form so I can burn additional DVDs later otherwise I would just do them one at a time and not care about one of them being destroyed.
Wow...that was a mess. Does anyone understand what the heck I’m asking? I hope so.

How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?
You can't. You make separate projects using the same or different clips, segments, transitions, titles, etc. You can even duplicate the first project and then modify/make the desired changes in the duplicated project. Each project can then be burned as a different DVD or as different titles on the same DVD if there is enough room.
