No POV - Smart View

Hi,
I received this spreadsheet that was built using Smart View tool. But this spreadsheet does not seem to utilize the POV feature. All the dimensions are shown on the cells in the spreadsheet and the report is basically generated through the HsGetValue formula. I really like this formatting coz it's neater. But when i tried to make changes to it (i.e. pivot business units, etc), it seems to cause an error. It gives me #value results. I have checked the formulas couple of times already and it's still not working.
Then, I tried to rebuild it on my own to no avail. I can't seem to erase the POV pop-up.
Does anyone here know how to lose the POV features and have all the dimensions shown on the cells? Anybody here also knows how to use the HsGetValue function?

Above is the formula that I have right now. Suppose I want to move Year into another cell and change the reference number to the new cell location, the formula wouldn't work anymore. it will give me #VALUE.

ThanksFairly stright forward, For this intersection It get the connection name (from a private connection from cell C13, the scenario from cell F1, the entity from cell F2, the Year from cell F3, the view from cell F5 and the Value from F6. Note the way the formula is written the F can change to another column if the formula is dragged to another column
So what is the issue?

Pov invalid error while calculte the data in smart view

hi,
While opening the hfm application in workspace.And then when it will open with smart view(1.2.2.300)
select the cell and then click on calculate it is showing error
"Pov selected for this function is invalid"
Plz,suggest for solutions for this thread.

Hi,
There used to be an issue in version 11.1.2.1 and oracle suggested to use the latest smart view version.
I would suggest to create an SR.

What's user variable name using Smart View POV function (ex:HypGetActiveMember)?

Hi,
We want to use Smart View POV function (ex:HypGetActiveMember) to get the active member of user variables from HFM forms selected into Excel, but we don't know the user variable name in the following paragraph of Smart View developer guide:
"To uniquely identify the user variable, provide the user variable name rather than the dimension name."
For example, what's the user variable name of Year dimension? How to get the user variable name?

I guess user variable name is set by users/developers. I am not very clear on your question. If you have defined some variables to select any members from a dimension then it will be in HFM only. In planning we have two kinds of variables User Variables (we set it from Planning Preferences) and Substitution variable (we set it from Essbase Consol in the backend). Without looking into your application it is difficult to say the user variable name. Like for Year the user variables can be "PreviousYear", "CurrentYear", or "NextYear" etc.

Smart View 'Free-Form' vs Excel Add-In

The following Sample.Basic retrieve is valid in the Excel Add-In:

It will retrieve in Smart View, but always converts immediately to this:

Note that the Scenario and Product members have jumped over to 'stack' on the Year member.
I can't find any way to stop this happening. The context is converting some legacy Add-In reports. Users don't want to change the layout at all, if avoidable.

Hi Glenn, to respond (seriously) to this point - yes, it's not really a disaster. But there are ten years' of accumulated Add-In reports at this client, some formatted carefully for presentation.
One nasty real example:
Say those POV/page members for Scenario and Product are fed from formulas; cell references to a master sheet. And that those rows are hidden for display purposes.
Now the user starts using Smart View instead of the Add-In. The first time she refreshes, everything looks good, so she thinks "No changes necessary for this one - next!".
But Smart View has - unseen - pasted the current literal values for Scenario and Product into all the other columns on the report (none of the formula options seem to affect this).
The next time the user runs it, updating the master sheet Scenario and Product doesn't have any effect on the retrieve.
It's a shame Smart View feels the need to mess with the layout, since it is clearly capable of interpreting the first format correctly.

Member Selection issue Smart View 11.1.2.1.102

Hi there!
I am experiencing an issue with several different cubes when accessing the member selection function in Smart View version 11.1.2.1.102. The issue is isolated to 4 Essbase cubes, but among the 4 are both ASO & BSO.
When I highlight the top, left-most Dimension name and click member selection, NO member names display and the dropdown list is unavailable. As soon as the given Dimension is moved out of the POV, I am able to see the full member list. This also means that the member that has moved into the top, left-most position now has the issue of not being able to select any members (certain dimensions are fine no matter their position).
I am able to move members around by pivoting the dimension and the member selection function behaves normally for some, but the issue pops back up as soon the dimension is moved back to the POV position.
If anyone has run into this issue with SmartView before and has a fix, please let me know. I would be happy to clarify my issue if anyone is unclear on what exactly I am trying to describe.

This was a bug in 11.1.2.1.102. I'm not sure if it was fixed in 11.1.2.1.103 or 11.1.2.2 (I think 11.1.2.103)
It does not hurt you to upgrade to a higher version of Smart View

Importing Metadata in Smart View

Dear All,
In Smart view when I migrate the metadata from one worksheet to other its is not getting migrated. I have followed the below steps still its not..
To import metadata to a copied worksheet :
1. Back up your work.
2. From the Smart View menu, select Options, then Advanced, and ensure that Improved Metadata Storage is
selected.
3. Use Excel to copy a worksheet. This operation copies the visible contents of the source worksheet but not the
metadata (connection information, POV selections, alias tables and the like) to the destination worksheet.
4. With the destination worksheet active, from the Smart View menu, select More, then Import Metadata to
display a list of all open workbooks and their corresponding open worksheets.
5. From the list, select the worksheet that contains the metadata that you want to import to the destination
worksheet.
6. Click OK. You will be asked to confirm your selection.
7. Refresh.
Help in solving this issue is highly appreciated.

I don't know what back end you are connecting to, but when I follow the steps you outlined with Essbase's Good Old Sample.Basic, it works just fine -- the members that were selected in the POV are migrated across.
This is on Excel 2007 with Essbase 11.1.2.0.

Hyperion Planning form change not flowing through to Smart View

Hyperion Planning 11.1.2 and Smaer View 11.1.2.
I have a user that installed SV yesterday but has been using planning for years. I made a change on his planning form (just added an account) and he does not see this change in smart view. However, he does see the change when logged into Hyperion Planning in his form.
One strange thing about this is the change shows for all hierarchies except for ones that he has loaded data to. So, for a hierarchy that has no data, it shows the form in SV how it is in planning. If he loads data to the hier, the form automatically switches back to how it was before the change, even when the planning form itself hasn't been changed.
Here is what we have tried:
Rebooted machine
removed user security completely from plannng and added back
checked for ghost instance in task manager or excel
Opened new Workbook and opened form fresh
remvoed connection, closed excel and all instances, new connection and open form fro mblank slate
Nothing seems to be working. And I see the form how it is in planning. HE does not, he sees it the "old way" and ony for hier points that have data submitted to them. So, literally switches the view based on the POV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Sounds like in the smart list set up you set "#Missing Data Form Label:" to "Data Form Setting" change it to "Drop Down Setting" and it should be alright.

Smart View freezes excel

I have a specific excel sheet which, when opened in excel with active Smart View add-in, always freezes up. Disabling the add-in allows to open the sheet but as soon as the add-in is reactivated it freezes again.
Windows 7, Excel 2010, Smart View 11.1.1.4.
Following the advice fromExcel sheet hangs using smart view 11.1.2.2.000 I've changed the security settings and added the directory to the trusted sites, all to no avail.
The error log is filled, but can't make much of it:

Most of that was said in the other thread already and doesn't work.
Preserve Formula on POV change: was already unchecked
Try adding smartview folder as trusted site in Excel: was already done
check the macro settings as Excel sees the addin as a macro: -> what do I need to check?
Also take off the safemode settings: was already done.
Internet explorer doesn't come into play here for me... only excel and smartview for now. Haven't even had a chance to make a connection yet.

Planning menus driven off of the Page dimension controls in Smart View

Apologies if this question is answered but I simply couldn't find an answer on the web, or in OTN, or on Oracle Support, or even (gasp) in the docs.
With that preamble...
I have a Planning form with popup/right click menus that, in a web browser -- IE9 in this case, can be called by right clicking on the row headers (or, with great difficulty in 11.1.2.2) the itsy-bitsy little Page dimension drop down triangles. Some (most) of the menus use the Planning Required Parameters feature to read row or page dimension members to pass the selected member as context to the new form.
So what about Smart View? Ah yes, in Smart View the row header right click allows the menu that uses Required Parameters to drive, for instance, Employee Detail for an Account (Planning passes the Account to a new form). It works just fine. This is the same as IE9.
But I simply cannot figure out how to make Smart View's POV display a popup/right click menu and of course pass that dimension member to the new form. Beyond reading the above sources, I tried just about everything i could think of in Smart View. Is it possible? If not, this would be a major bummer because the planners are not exactly in love with the ADF interface but do rather like Smart View.
Fwiw, it is Excel 2010 and Smart View 11.1.2.2.300 (Build 070).

I've not seen someone using a menu in POV (There could be valid reason for you doing it).
11.1.2.2 If you are using an dimension in POV as required parameter IE shows it in POV, Smartview is not showing that option at all. (Right click on Form shows blank)
I tried it on 11.1.2.3 to see something got fixed there (or updated) and found that right click on row shows the menu item (POV). (You don't need to right click on POV)

Error in Smart view

Hi,
I've just started working with the latest version, 11.1.2.1, under Windows XP and am getting a recurring error whereby every time I attempt an operation that goes to the cube it gives me "Unspecified error" in a popup window instead and the operation is not performed. I happened to stumble across a work-around - go into the Smartview options dialog, re-select the existing value from a drop-down menu (doesn't seem to matter which one) and click OK then re-attempt the cube operation and it seems to work again for a while. I've no idea what is triggering the initial problem. please suggest.
I also tried to see first hidden row in report and there is Alphabet 'L' is coming again & again so that might be an issue.

The items in the hidden first row should be your POV items. If you toggle the POV toolbar on and off these should display and hide. The question I have is if you are using 11.1.2.1.000 you should not have this first hidden row. What versions are you using for APS/Essbase and Smart View.

Smart view 11.1.2.1 disabled zoom in option

Hello,
I just intalled Smart View 11.1.2.1 on my client PC. Server is Essbase 11.1.1.3. Office 2007.
I can connect using Private connection and I can do a refresh and retrives my data but ... the option for Zoom In and Zoom out from the Essbase Ribbon are disabled.
I can even do a Zoom In using mouse Rigth Click --> Smart View --> Zoom In
Neither can do a Pivot from the POV to the Sheet ... Am i doing anything wrong?.

This may be due to the different releases. My understanding is Hyperion now requires all versions to be the same release. We were unabled to upgrade Essbase Studio from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2 because it would require a full upgrade which would impact the HFM and FDM components.

Dimensions set to Selectable are not selectable w/in Smart View Data Forms

When trying to use a data form by clicking "Select Form" in the Hyperion toolbar in Excel (not exporting from webspace), Dimensions that are defined as Selectable are not actually selectable within Smartview. Below is a portion of the script:
BackgroundPOV=S#***.Y#***.w#***.V#***.I#***.C4#***
SelectablePOVList=P{***}.E{***.[Base]}.C1{***.[Hierarchy]}
Within the web, the form works fine and everything selectable is selectable. Within smart view, only Entity is selectable. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have found this and its generally because the dimension is referenced in the column
i.e Year and period is displayed in the column.
In HFM you can select the members from the POV but when opening in SmartView you can't
Solution is to remove the dimension from the col or row.

Can't load data through smart view (ad hoc analysis)

Hi,
There is EPM application where I want to give ability to planners to load data through smart view (ad hoc analysis). In Shared Services there are four options in
EssbaseCluster-1: Administrator, Create/Delete Application, Server Access, Provisioning Manager. Only Administrator can submit data in smart view (ad-hoc analysis). But I don't want to grant Essbase administrator to planners, I'm just interested to give them ability to load data through ad-hoc analysis. Please suggest!

I take that you refreshed the Planning security, If not refresh the security of those users. Managing Security Filters
Check in EAS whether those filters are created with "Write" permissions.

Oracle Smart View 11.1.2.5.400 prompt bug still not resolved?

Good morning,
in our company we have OBIEE 11.1.1.7.140715 and we are testing Oracle Smart View 11.1.2.5.400 (Build 376) on Excel 2007 32 bit and Excel 2013 64 bit to allow our final users to work more easily.
Unfortunately almost all of our reports contains prompts and when we try to insert an object in the Excel worksheet we see the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object” and Excel hangs.
Is there any solution?

Smart View error logging in to an application

Hello,
I successfully installed Smart View on a computer with Windows XP SP3. I can connect to the data source, but when I try to connect to an application, after entering the username and password, an error pops up: "Requested operation failed. Error: java.lang.NullPointerException"
Do anybody know the issue?

Are you connecting to a Planning or Essbase datasource connection?
Can you try connecting to other DS connections to see if it works?
If connecting to an Essbase datasource, have you configured your APS correctly?
