No power manager in Windows 8 - this forever?

Since the power manager app doesn't seem to work on Windows 8, how do you check the battery charge cycles? Also, is it gone forever or is Lenovo working on fixing the compatibility?
I have an X230.

Battery gauge error running Power Manager for Windows XP version 5.20

Last week on my R61 (8932-CTO), Update Retriever and System Update requested that I download and install ThinkPad Power Manager for Windows XP version 5.20. After rebooting, I immediately received an error box with the following message:
An exception occurred while trying to run"C:\Progra~1\ThinkPad\UTILIT~1\PWRMGRTR.DLL,PwrMgrBkGndMonitor"
As a result of this error, the battery gauge no longer displays correctly. The space where it used to be is blank, but clicking the empty space still gives you the option of starting Power Manager.
What is puzzling about this is that version 5.20 is not available in either in the Driver Matrix, nor on the Downloads and Drivers web page. The version of the software that is presented there is version 5.13.

Another interesting point, is that this version of the driver has, as yet, not been presented to me on my R500 (2714CTO), although both machine types are listed as supported models.
Why are Update Retriever and System Update downloading software that apparently has not been officially released yet? Why is this only happening on my R61 and not on my R500?
And last of all, why has his software been released when it seems to have an obvious problem?
Any explanations would be appreciated.

Power Manager for Windows Vista - ThinkPad

The link show the update is for a T61p, running Vist,

I haven't tried it yet.
In the meantime i did more testing and found out that even with only Power Manager version 2.41a installed the latest Intel Pro wireless driver also supported by lenovo is not stabel and FN-F5 or windows network connection also fails to switch the radio back on after a reboot when the radio has been turned off first ;-(

Power Manager for Windows 8.1

Where is Power Manager for Windows 8.1? (For ThinkPad Edge series laptops)
There is a "Lenovo Power Management Driver", but no application/software to go along with it.
Does anyone know?

There is no official support for ThinkVantage Power Manager beyond Windows 7.
There are reports that some have installed it, but there are warnings that it may(?) clash with Windows 8/8.1 native power management functions and potentially cause system instability.

Hallo Zusammen
Ich habe auf meinem W530 Windows 8.1 installiert.
Ich habe von der Lenovo Website folgendes Tool heruntergeladen und installiert "ThinkPad Power Manager Desktop Windows 8.1". Das hat alles soweit geklappt.
Nun wollte ich die Einstellungen ändern, es zeigt mir aber nur den Netztbetrieb an ich kann keine Einstellungen ändern für dne Akkubetrieb (Siehe Bild)
Hat jemand eine Ahnung wie ich die Einstellungen für den Akkubetrieb ändern kann.
Ich bin fast am verzweifeln, denn der Energie-Manager von Windows ist absoluter schrott, der Akku ist ständig leer.

Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 8

Hi guys,
Since Lenovo Power Manager is not available for Windows 8 (no matter my laptop is specified to be FOR Windows 8... grrrrr...) I've been playing around because I needed not the infamous power gauge taking space in my taskbar, but some advanced settings.
Well, I found a couple of things:
Power Manager (g6u432ww.exe) can be installed in Windows 8 and can be used. Even the power gauge.
To install it, you have to run the setup in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
It doesn't work very well: sometimes it crashes or the UI won't open (at doesn't open anymore, no matter what you do). But it does run the first time (use it before restarting) and you can change battery settings and some other stuff anyway.
Do create a Restore Point before, because is not created automatically and because you won't be able to uninstall it later, since the setup expects Windows 7.
If you install Lenovo Settings Dependency Package (gfsd02ww.exe) after that, Power Manager gets upgraded from version 6.36 to 7.11. But still crashes.
Settings regarding battery charging are kept, no matter you restore Windows using system restore. So you can create a Restore Point, install Power Manager, change battery settings, and then restore Windows.
Is not a solution (I'm still expecting for Lenovo to fix this support for Windows 8). But at least I was able to stop the battery from charging all the time.
This has been tested on a ThinkPad Edge S430.
One important question left is:
Why Lenovo Power Manager 7.11 can't be downloaded and installed normally? I couldn't care less for the Metro Store Apps and bulky gadgets. But I want to be able to change some settings.

Can't uninstall Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 8 - upgraded from Windows 7

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo X230. It was preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. I upgraded this system to Windows 8 Pro without any problems.
I noticed that Windows 8 Pro has some issues with the Lenovo Power Manager, which after perusing this forum seems to be pretty incompatible with Windows 8. I am trying to uninstall the Power Manager in the Control Panel, but I can't find the application to install. I only see an option to uninstall the Lenovo Power Management Driver. Does anyone know how I can uninstall the entire Lenovo Power Manager from my system?

Backstory: I installed the Power Manager on a clean installation of Windows 8 by setting it to Windows 7 Compatibility Mode. It seemed to be working swimmingly, until the next day when I tried to use it and discovered that it would always crash on start-up. Unfortunate. I naively attempted to correct this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the application. Strangely, I was able to successfully uninstall the program using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel and then reinstall the program. But, despite the reinstallation the problem persisted and I tried to uninstall the program again. It would not uninstall, claiming the installer wasn't compatible with my system.
Fix: Run "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallShield Installation Information\{DAC01CEE-5BAE-42D5-81FC-B687E84E8405}\Setup.exe" -l0x9 -AddRemove from an administrative command prompt. This should completely remove Power Manager and it's entry in the Add/Remove Programs console. The GUID may be different if you were not using the most recent version of Power Manager, I installed 6.36. The additional power plans that it originally installed are still in the Windows Power control panel.
I am still wrestling with the Power Manager to get it working somewhat reliably on Windows 8. I am very disappointed that this level of effort is required on a new system that is Windows 8 compliant.

Power Manager for Windows Vista - MIGR 67216 - Power Manager Utility for Vista

I have been trying to install the Power Manager Utility for Windows Vista (MIGR 67216) hoping that this will solve my Power Manager error. The Power Manager shuts down automatically whenever I start the computer or try to access the Power Manager. Dow anyone have a solution?

Edge E540: Power Manager for Windows 8.1?

The Thinkpad Edge E540 currently comes with Windows 7 preinstalled, Windows 8 added as recovery disk. It is also suffering from an issue, where the fan will spin unnecessarily fast until going to standby and waking up again.
As a solution it was suggested to use the Power Manager utility [1]. However, the download page [2] lists the Power Manager only for Windows 7 (and indeed it won't install on Windows 8.1).
Does this mean that the Power Manager is not available for Windows 8? If it isn't, will it be?

Lenovo power manager for windows 8 - installation freezes

I installed Lenovo Power Management Driver (file: 7xua14ww.exe) and I would like to install also Power Manager utility (file: 7xua14ww.exe) but I always get this message:
"A more recent version of the program has been detected in the destination you have selected. If you continue, your previous installation will be overwritten. Do you want to continue?"
When I press yes installation bar opens but does not move and installation freezes.
Can somebody help me? Thanks a lot.
P.S.. I´m using Thinkpad E530 with Windows 8 Home (64)

Why do you want to install that on your ThinkPad? It's for ThinkCentre desktop computers, not ThinkPad laptops.
I have Power Manager running fine on my X220, as I mentioned above.

Why is there a power manager program for Thinkpad x240 for Windows 8?

Thinkvantage Power Manager on Windows 7

Hi all,
I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate via a clean install. With windows Vista (Business edition) I used to be able to left click on the battery icon in the tray and was able to choose my power option schemes and right-click to pull up a context menu.
However, in Windows 7, the right-click context menu pops up, but when I left-click the power manger tray icon, the power scheme context menu doesn't pop up instead Power Mananger, the whole program executes. Then I have to wait for the splash screen and then choose my power schemes. I tried the settings, but there is no option to activate the left-click power scheme menu from the power manger tray icon.
Anybody know a solution? Thanks

Thininstaller - Power Manager fails to install on T410 - Windows 7 32bit

I have a TVSU Repository set up and it has been working great for us. I sometimes have to run the thininstaller command again after a machine images if the machine did a silent install of a BIOS upgrade the first time so other updates can't continue. That is OK for now.
My biggest concern is that thininstaller isn't installing the Power Manager in Windows 7 for our T410 laptops. The following line is in the thininstaller log file:

at Tvt.FileDownloader.IndexRepositoryDownloader.Download(FileToDownloadBean bean)
Message: the File to download is completed: \\server\d$\packages\drivers\lenovo\81u411ww\81u411ww_2_.xml
However - it never actually gets installed. If I manually do an update:
thininstaller /repository \\server\repository
It scans through but says no products were found for my system. That isn't right though, the Power Manager (81u411ww.exe) is available and applicable in the repository.
I've delete this package from the repository and re-downloaded it and still the same issue. This seems to be isolated to T410's (2518-F3U) units.
Any idea why thininstaller isn't installing Power Manager? I have full log files I can provide but I didn't want to spam this post. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, in case anyone else runs into this issue - I am getting around the issue by simply deleting the depencies on the package. Now ThinInstaller is detecting it correctly on my machines. I am not exactly sure what version of Power Manager introduced this issue but simply removing the dependencies works for us.
