You need to set your default saving in Photoshop to Maximum Compatibility in order to see the thumbnail in LR (any version). When you save a document as a PSD a dialog will show up (unless you have checked Don't show again) that askes if you want to Maximize Compataiblity. This should be checked in order for LR to parse the file.

CRM Sneck preview available for download and install

Hi,
I was wondering whether a sneak preview version is also available for CRM which can be installed in a PC or a simple server along with the Potal. Portal sneak preview is already available. This is to have a own copy of the CRM for different config etc experiment.
Has anybody done this on his own? Please let me know.
I also wonder whether the same is avilable for BW or not?

You can check the available sneak previews in the sdn downloads section. There is no sneak preview available for CRM or BW as of now.

Can't Get Past Preview Unavailable for a PSD File

I know that Lightroom is unable to generate previews for PSD files if they haven't been saved with the Maximize Compatibility option. But, it seems that once you begin a preview for a folder Lightroom gets stuck in that mode even if you then go ahead and resave the file with the Maximize Compatibility option set to Always.
In a test just now I opened one of the problem files in Photoshop CS6 and saved it. Then I went back to Lightroom and tried to reimport the file but it still said Preview Unavailable. I tried toggling on/off a couple of layers and resaving but it still didn't help. So, next I actually tried making a change to the file and resaving. That still didn't work. I've tried exiting from the Import dialog in LR and restarting the import and even restarting Lightroom but nothing makes a difference.
If I save a new copy of the file in Photoshop (without changing any settings in my Photoshop preferences) Lightroom is able to show a preview and import the copy. So, the file itself is fine. In fact, it's just a simple 1MB file with a background layer and a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
I've found this same behavior with both LR 4 and LR 5 Beta.
I have a lot of PSD files that I've edited over the years in Photoshop. Now, I'm considering using Lightroom but if I have to create new copies of every one of my PSD files in order to see them in Lightroom I don't know if it's going to be worth the trouble. Is there any workaround?

TIFFs will hold everything that PSDs do.
That's nice to hear. However, I found that the Image Processor conversion doesn't work correctly in some cases. Here's one example. I have a file with a single image layer and which is a Smart Object. I applied a Blur Gallery Iris Blur to this object as a Smart Filter. After running the Image Processor what I got was a flattened file with no Smart Object and no blur filter. The filter effect was rasterized so it wasn't lost but the ability to edit further was.
And it gets worse. I have another file with a single Smart Object layer and a Nik Software Color Efex Pro filter applied. In this case, not only did it flatten the file, it didn't even render the effect correctly.
I played around with my preferences thinking that my Maximize Compatibility or TIFF layer-save options might be causing the problem. But, so far, I haven't been able to get the Image Processor to work correctly.
However, if I do the conversion manually I end up with a TIFF file that includes the Smart Object with Smart Filter intact. If I want to use these files with Lightroom I guess I'll have to convert each one manually.

OK, there are a couple things I've found that I like better about Windows 8.
For one the new Task Manager is FAR superior to the old. I even like it better than Process Explorer. For me, this is a very useful new addition.
Besides startup times, things in general seem to be faster in Windows 8. Programs start faster. The whole UI seems snappier. Mind you this is purely a subjective analysis based on years of doing the same exact things under Windows 7. No actual speed tests have been run.
The slightly redesigned Windows Explorer has some nice new features, like the Ribbon (which by default is hidden unless you manually call it up).
Whenever a new program is installed and you open a file it can handle, such as installing a new media player and opening up a video, Windows will give you a pop up telling you you have a new program to open that file with, and it gives you the option to switch to the new program, any other program that can handle that file, or keep using the current program to open that file. This only happens once.
There are some very nice reboot options that you could normally only access (or try to, if you're quick enough) during the actual reboot. Now you can tell Windows to boot to the BIOS even before you shut down. No more rebooting 3 times in a row because you keep missing the opportunity to hit Delete at the right time.
From the desktop or the Start screen, hitting Windows+Q will call up a full list installed apps, kind of like your own personal app store. This is actually much easier to deal with than the old Start Menu access to programs.
When transferring files, you get a speed graph that shows you the ongoing performance of the transfer speeds.
And that window stays expanded, even across new copies or moves, until you close it with the Fewer Details button. One thing I found annoying about Windows 7 is that each new file transfer started with the window collapsed and I had to manually hit More Details every singe time. Now it just stays open, the way I prefer it.

Filters not available for a file coming from Lightroom

I started to work with Lightroom and Photoshop CS5.5 some weeks ago to improve my pictures and my photographic workflow. Here is my problem :
- I import a RAW picture in Lightroom with DNG conversion, everything is fine in Lightroom.
- I want to edit the picture in Photoshop so I click "Edit in... Photoshop CS5", so that I'm editing a copy in PSD format. Camera RAW works fine.
- Once I'm in Photoshop with my .psd file, some filters (some default filters of Photoshop and also some external plug-ins) are not available (I cannot click on it in the filters menu) while others work like a charm.
Is it normal?
If it is, why?
If it is not, what should I do to get rid of the problem?

I spent hours to find the answer to this question... and you just made my day!
I tried with a jpeg file as I have not my RAW files with me right now and it seems you're right. I'll try with my RAW files as soon as possible just to check and let you know.
Do you know if these upgrades are planned? 16 bits is quite a good improvement and I like to play with some of the stupid toys like "pixelate" or "texturize"

Preview not available for this file on import

I just transferred all my stuff from a vista computer to a new Windows 7. Lightroom 3.3 is now running as a 64 bit. I am importing tiff scans which were done on the Vista computer. At first everything was going fine, but now when I select files for import, all I can see are greyed out boxes which say "preview not available for this file". If I import the file, all is well, but I would like to see them in preview as well. Also, the program has crashed twice in the middle of an import.

Yes, the larger preview is viewable. I'm using Vuescan to scan the files. Nothing has changed with the scanning from the previous scans which worked fine...same settings, same computer (not the new one).

yes, OS Version 10.0.12534.59 is build 10052. unfortunately, I don't know why the build number is different with os version. it is very confusing. you can send feedback about it.

"Preview not available for this file" error message.

I'm using LR 4.4 but it hasn't worked correctly since I got my new camera (Canon 70D). When trying to import I keep getting the "Preview not available for this file" error message. I had some better luck connecting the camera with a usb cable, that let me see the jpg images, but it would not let me see the raw (.cr2) images. Would I solve this problem by upgrading to LR5?
I'm running LR 4.4 on a Windows 7 PC.

Unless I am doing something wrong. In the add-ons section I could only find print preview button for 0.7.7 this I have installed with above result. I have since found the answer. The site http://localhost:8888/ will indeed work. The problem was that the java_home for oc4j was pointing to a Java Runtime Edition of 1.5.0, and so oc4j was not starting, since oc4j only works with 1.4.x.
Still have the missing info from the readme, though.

Song no longer available for purchse error

I tried on Monday to purchase two songs but got an error saying that they were no longer available for purchase, even though a can listen to the preview. I click OK to the error prompt and thought no more of it.
I recently check my back account and I have been billed for the two songs, even though nothing was downloaded. I've selected the Check For Purchases option in the menu, but it says I have nothing to download.
Any ideas, would the fact that all my MP3 are stored on a server and not imported to my mac have anything to do with it. Itunes is set-up not to import music when I add songs, but to play them over the network.

Does your AE 9 already work for you? Go into preferences and see what happens. You won't break anything. If it doesn't work, you'll know, and vice-versa.
You should also know that ALMOST NOBODY uses Open GL to accelerate rendering, and that includes Adobe Employees. The only time it makes sense is with a fancy third-party plugin like Particle Illusion... and even then, you'd better be careful if you stack effects up, because there are bound to be those that just won't work with Open GL.
