  • Preview in Illustrator EPS

I cannot get a preview in Illustrator eps but I can get one in Illustrator.ai. How come? Thanks.

    >I typically click on the saved file ( in list view ) and see a thumbnail of the file in Illustrator.
Are you sure you don't mean column view?
What current version; what OS version? Have you been able to do this in several prior versions of Ai and prior OS versions?
I am on 10.4.11 and AICS3, but can't remember it ever working as you describe back to Illustrator 5 and the corresponding Mac OS. Is there a preference I need to set? Can others please confirm or comment on this.
It seems that this is the very issue of the original post and Scott's #1 response. Note that Scott has some credentials with Ai. My earlier comments on Scott's response to Ron's post was in essence that it should work as described by John in #10, and that Scott's explanation for it not working that way seemed to me inadequate. IOW I think Scott can and should have given a better explanation.
Can other users please report wether the Ai eps preview works for you as described in #s 10 & 12, or wether you simply get an Ai Icon in the File > Open dialog from any version of Illustrator.
    Thanks,
    Al

  • While in Illustrator cc, when I place a tiff there is no preview in Illustrator, what am I missing,

While in Illustrator cc, when I place a tiff there is no preview in Illustrator, what am I missing,

in CS5 or later--it's in the preferences panel
if it's already set like above--just resave (is the problem you're having happen with ALL tiffs? or just one?).

  • How do you down save a Illustrator CC eps file to a Illustrator CS5?

I have a customer who says they can't open my Illustrator CC .eps file because they are running CS5 and want me to down save it. I don't see that option anywhere.

No options to “save as” cs6 or  cs7 – just pdf, eps, etc. see below.

  • Accurate preview of gradients in EPS objects

I hope I can explain this properly... our company has been using a primarily Quark-based workflow for as long as I've been here. We would take individual layouts, save them as EPS, and then import them into a master layout (which was the size of our plates), and those layouts were printed directly from Quark. This has been buggy, as you can imagine, but has worked for us for the most part.
We are now in the process of adding PDF to the workflow (master Quark layout now exported as PDF, then dropped to a hot folder), and I've had a number of issues crop up (mostly due to the limitations of our new plate processor). The biggest issue is that we cannot control the preview size on the RIP server, which makes it near impossible to find errors. Obviously, the answer to that is to preview it in Acrobat before releasing. Enter the major issue...
Some of our ads arrive (or are built) as Illustrator EPS files, and some of them have a black to white gradient over a darker background (typically- but not always- red). When those files are imported into Quark, they look fine. When they are output as EPS, JPG, or PDF files for proofing, they look fine. In short, they look fine at every step of the process except the final output- they simply do not RIP properly. The gradient completely drops out, and I am left with a gradient-shaped hole. The solution has always been to put a white box behind that object (since no combination of overprint, trapping, etc. seems to affect it), which I don't mind continuing except for the problem of not having the means to review the document and catch it before the file is sent to print. We have 30+ artists, and while they have been instructed to add that box and look for those problems themselves, issues are going to creep through.
What I need, I guess, is some way to either catch this problem in Quark before the layout is exported to EPS, or a way to see an accurate preview in Acrobat so that it is caught before the document is printed. I've tried Advanced > Print Production > Output Preview > toggle Simulate Overprinting, but no dice. Any other suggestions?
Please forgive me if this doesn't make sense. I'm blaming a sinus infection. :-/
    Thanks in advance!
    T
P.S. Please note that changing the software I use isn't an option. I'd love to go all-Adobe, but with 30+ artists, that's not happening any time soon. Any other suggestions on how to fix this process, however, I'm all ears.

Thanks - but that's NOT it. Somewhere - there's a setting that allows you to view the vector in 72. 150 or 300 dpi. And depending on which one you select the bitmapping gets more refined as you zoom in on the artwork (in my case a logo). I know its there because I did it a couple of months ago - but stupidly I did not note where that setting is or whose blog I saw the answer on.

  • No preview in illustrator CS3

Why can I not get a preview when I open a Illustrator CS3 file that has been already drawn. All I get is an orange "AI" file when I open in ai or eps mode? I initially saved it is a preview mode: default and profile: custom. Also, when I open "New" file, I have include document thumbnails checked. Thanks.

  • Previews of Illustrator .ai files no longer visible

Hi, with Leopard the Finder in column view no longer shows the preview icons of illustrator .ai files like Tiger did. PDF files work just fine, with .ai files just the generic icon is visible.
Any idea what to do about it?
    Thanks!

    You can download "SneakPeekPro",
Description: Preview Illustrator, InDesign, and EPS documents without launching an application. Also allows viewing of fonts, images, and colors used in many CS3 documents.
    at this link http://www.code-line.com/software/sneakpeekpro.html
You can try it for 15 days befoure buy it.
Here you can find more for Cover Flow what you can't see:
    http://www.qlplugins.com/
    oe here
    http://www.quicklookplugins.com/
Is better to put the file downloaded in your Library not the Library of the system,
and then you can see the .ai previews for your User. Put the file filename.qlgenerator in a folder called QuickLook, if this folder there is not in your Library folder, just create this.
    Hope this help,
anyway is not a good pratice but if you simply delete the .ai extension you will see the previews.

  • Is there a way to preview an illustrator (.ai) file on the ipad

I know natively the ipad can't, but are there apps that can do that?
Have been searching on google, but can't seem to find an answer
    thanks!
    andrew

    I don't think so.
I know adobe has some app versions of their programs, but I thought it was just photoshop.
I think you can export PDF from illustrator. You could do that to preview the file.

  • Preview won't open eps, ps

I used to be able to double-click on an eps file, and Preview would say "Converting Postscript file to pdf" and it would open in a new Preview window. Now I always get the error message "File error. Couldn't open the file" after it starts the conversion process. This happens with any and all eps/ps files. If I click OK in the error dialog box, a blank pdf file opens (i.e., it is just a gray window). Any ideas? This used to work fine, and was extremely useful.

I spent about 4 hours on this. Here is what I found.
    1) This EPS opening issue if it existz causes problems in Preview, Mail, and even ColorSync when trying to open EPS file.
    2) The same machine can have problems in one user account, but be fine in another.
    3) Creating a new account usually creates an account that will open EPS files fine. (see strange notes below)
    4) Even when you copy all the contents of the old home folder were the EPS files were not working into the the new home folder, eps files will still open fine. (You can do this by copying the old home folder to the root fo the drive. Log off. Go to the new account and change the permissions on all the files to map to the new account as owner. Delete the content of the current home folder. Copy these into the new home folder. Log off and back on.)
BUT HERE IS WHERE IT GETS VERY VERY VERY STRANGE. I copied by entire problematic home folder to a BACKUP drive. Then I logged off and logged in as a different admin. I deleted the problematic account - erasing the entire contents of the account. Then I restarted. If I created an account with a NEW name and short name, then EPS files worked. BUT IF I CREATED A CLEAN BRAND NEW ACCOUNT WITH THE SAME NAME AS THE ACCOUNT THAT DID NOT WORK BEFORE - IT WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN. This is a brand new clean account, that just happens to have the same name as the account that did not work before. Again, the home folder is CLEAN. But when I tried to open EPS on this account, they would hang. I could create another account with different name, and EPS would open fine.
So this makes no sense to me. Something in the OS is different based on account OUTSIDE of the home folder.
So anyway, if you are having this problem here is the SOLUTION:
    1) Create a new user account with a different name and short name.
    2) Copy the contents of your current home folder to this new account. (following the steps above.)
    3) Use the new account.
This seems crazy, but it seems to work. Let me know if you have this issue too.

  • Saving png with Cut Countour in illustrator  as .eps = Gigantic file size

    Hi
When saving a png (size= 32mb) in illustrator, with a layer on top with a vector-path (Cut contour for a roland cutter) the .eps file ends up being 800 mb??
I tried saving only the layer with med vector path as an eps. The vector .eps ends up being 5,5 mb.
When adding the .png (32mb) on a seperate layer, and then saving as an eps. This eps (png+vector) ends up 800mb.
    It is a big print ( 125cmx218cm)
Anyway to make this file-size a bit smaller?
    /Rikke

You'll need to outline the text and provide the mask image.
Apart from that: looks to me like a problem with resolution. There's a structure in your exported file, but it's smoothed.
Without knowing what exactly you did step by step it's difficult to solve this problem.

  • Fonts don't work correctly when opening illustrator 5 eps in illustrator 6

When I open an eps file in illustrator 6, which I received from our graphic designer (who is using 5), the fonts don't work correctly. We have purchased VistaSans and when I try to open file, it says fonts not found so they have been substituted, but when I open illustrator, the fonts are there. When I try to change text from VistaSansReg to VistaSansSCBold the bold doesn't apper in illustrator or when saving to PDF - however, when you click the changed text in illustrator, it does show the bold font has been selected.

    HI,
It is an open type font so should work, but it looks like the problem is that it hasn't installed correctly in Illustrator. I am using Windows 7 so right-clicked fonts and clicked install. Fonts appear in fonts area of control panel and install in disabled when font is viewed.  they work correctly in other apps, such as Word
When I vew the VistaSans fonts (in existing file) in Illustrator, they appear in the fonts drop-down, but have an asterisk beside them (i.e. not installed) so how do I get them to install correctly in Illustrator? Font isn't appearing in Photoshop either.

  • Illustrator CS6 EPS 10 Problem

    Hello,
i have a problem whis Illustrator CS6 and EPS 10!
i need to save my files in eps10 for (istock, shutterstock) but its always the same problem "The Files are not EPS10" and can not be opened!
    can someone help me!
    Thanks

Whenever you are done producing the original CS6 file, just do a simple: Save As > EPS > v10; but save it as a copy, so you always have the original file for edits in the future.  You'll get the customary warnings of compatability...just OK those as you do the copy.

  • Unwanted white space in Illustrator CS3 EPS

    Hai All
I am facing a problem with the specific image find the attahced.
There is no white space in images (87862fig2_3.eps) if we open it in “Adobe Illustrator CS3”. We have imported the same image in “In Design CS3”, but there was some white space exists in top and bottom of the image. I have opened the same image in the Adobe Illustrator CS3 and "Save As" the same now the white space is not appearing around the image.
Please advice why i am facing this problem
    Thanks in advance
    Mathew

I downloaded the eps and I opened it in AI and there was no problem I saved it as an AI file and placed it in ID and had no problem I then saved it as a eps and had no problem when placing it in ID. This would be on a Mac.
I do however get the same result when I place your eps in ID it goes away when I open in AI and then save it out again from AI as an eps or ai file.
This is with CS 4.but I do not recall ever seeing this problem in CS 3? I attached the files I saved from AI CS 4 see if there still exist the problem when you place these files in ID or AI? I think the problem will not be present.
What are your setting when saving from AI as an eps?

  • Saving down to Illustrator 10 EPS from CS6 and CC issues

    Hey All,
Hearing from people in Forums (and personal experience) that CS6 and CC are both having issues saving down files to AI 10 EPS.  Currently CS5 can save an Illustrator file with effects like Drop Shadows and Transparencies and maintain those as vector elements when saved to AI 10 EPS.  CS6 and CC turn those elements into Raster graphic elements.  My work requires me to save files down to EPS 10.  Currently using both CS6 and CC for the many new features they offer.  Really don't want to go backwards!
Please pass along any info you have for this issue.
    Thanks!

That's not an issue, that's just how things work.
The gaussian blur has been redesigned form the ground up and is not downwards compatible any more.
Gaussian blur is used in drop shadows, soft edges and glows as well.
So if you need to save down to EPS 10 you need to use an older version than CS6.
