No preview while capturing in FCP7?

We have two FCP setups. Each one has a Blackmagic SDI capture board. One is a MultiBridge Pro II, the other has a Decklink SDI board. Both of the Macs are identical, MacPro 3,1: 8 core 2.8GHz Xeons with 6 and 8GB of RAM. They have the same graphics card and are both running Mac OS X 10.6.8. They both have the same version of the Decklink software, v9.2.
On the system that has a Decklink SDI board, when we capture we get a preview in the Log and Capture window, as well as a preview while the capture is in progress.
On the system that has the Multibridge, we get preview in Log and Capture, but not while the capture is in progress. Instead, we get text that says Final Cut Pro, above an apple logo. the status at the bottom of the capture window says it's capturing and in fact, the resulting captured file is fine. This used to work fine, until a few months ago. I don't know what changed that may have cause preview to go away, but we used to see it on that system.
Are we missing a setting somewhere that might be causing this? it's really annoying to not be able to see where a capture is at, or that it's working properly
thanks.

Have you tried talking to Blackmagic?
Of course the first thing to do with almost any fcp problem is to reset your preferences.

  • Preview While Capturing High Def in Pro CS4?

    Greetings:
Running Vista 64 bit, 12 GB RAM, Intel Core i7, NVidia GTX275.  When I capture high def via 1394 from my Sony tape-based camcorder, the preview screen in the capture window changes to that text message, and does not show the video.  Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere, so that I can see the video being captured?  Surely this machine has enough power to handle that...
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    Norm

    Norm,
Unfortunately, there is no Preview, when doing a Capture of HD material. This is felt to be a major shortcoming of PrPro, but that is the way that it is.
    Sorry for the bad news,
    Hunt

  • No Preview While Capturing

In CS4, I was able to see HD video in the Capture panel until I pressed rhe Record button, then it was replaced by a multi-language screen. But in CS5 I can never see any video in the Capture panel, though CS5 does capture the video. This is my first time with CS5 and it's a new computer that I had to install a SYBA PCIe Firewire card in ,just to capture. On a possibly related note. I tried using HDV-Split to record the HD video, but every time I pressed Record, the capture stopped. But both CS5 and HDV-Split recognize the SONY FX7 I'm using to play the video and CS5 does capture the video.

I tried reverting to the legacy drivers but it didn't help. And again my programs ARE recognizing the camcorder, but the video is not being displayed in the programs and HDVSplit stops a few seconds after starting.
Update: I bought a new PCIe x1 firewire card. Now I can see the video in the Capture Panel and in HDVSplit, and I can capture video in one long file. But when I try to use Scene Split in either Ppro or HDVSplit, both stop recording after a few seconds or a few minutes.

  • Preview Disabled while capturing VHS or 8MM

While capturing video (either VHS or 8mm analog) I can not see what, if anything, I'm importing. I just have a black screen with the words "Final Cut Express" and a small apple logo below it. Also have color bars on the other window that says "Preview Disabled". Is there a way to monitor what you're importing while importing it? Otherwise, I have to wait till it's done to check out what's there.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
iMovie is smarther with capturing process and it's a good way to test camcorder/firewire cable/port and disk drive combo.
If you can achieve a capture in iM, we can focus on other problems than bad port/cable/camcorder setings, etc

  • Monitoring and previewing audio while capturing HDV

I have seen this discussion in the thread but there is no solution.
When capturing HDV via firewire, the audio is being previewed. This didn't used to happen. Is there a way to turn this off so that I can use other programs with sound like itunes? I can't find any way of doing this.
    Any solution?

so that I can use other programs with sound like itunes..
Buy another computer and use that for iTunes. Seriously.
If you start dedicating CPU cycles and RAM to listening to music while capturing, you are asking for trouble. Dropped frames, glitches, messed up files (pick one or more)
Yes, there is another way -uncheck the audio preview button.

  • No preview on capture monitor...

    Hi there,
A wierd problem occured to my PC just recently.
I am unable to playback footage in my capture window...
I have no idea what has happened, but basically it doesn't work anymore!
Spec: SONY HVR-V1E camera, recording HDV.
Adobe Production suite CS3, all fully updated.
Windows XP SP2, 3.2 Ghz dual core, 3 GB RAM.
I know i cannot preview HDV while capturing, thats not the problem. I should be able to view the footage in my capture monitor before capturing.
I do get the normal capturing screen when i hit capture button though.
I have looked into all the capture settings and all seems okay, has anyone got a suggestion?
    thanks...
    Andrew-

    Hi
Its not the capturing its when veiwing the footage and marking in and out points where it has dissappeared. I know you get a dialogue screen when you are capturing. It worked when I first used it with the HDV camera.
    Cheers

  • SETTING to hear AUDIO while CAPTURING?

    Hi...
    (another) silly settings question.
How can I hear audio while capturing from my HDV deck?
When capturing from a DV device (a camera), the 'preview' box enabled me to monitor the audio from the tape while either screening it or when capturing it.
I don't see that 'preview' box as an option in the HDV log and caputure window.
Although I'm capturing audio from the HDV source, I can't hear it while it's loading. It's a little annoying as I'd like to be able to hear the tape as a way to decide if it's even worth capturing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

We're here all week, try the liver.
I've always been a believer in monitoring in the signal chain. Granted I don't work much with HDV-- but monitoring what is going into and out of the computer, rather than relying on the computer's built in audio seems to be the way to go. Then you know what's coming off the tape, and what's going back down to the tape.

  • Preview and capture video

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to Java and I just came accross JMF.
I'm interested in creating an application that displays a live preview (upto 25fps) from a webcam (connected to a windows machine) and previews live audio from the mic.
Below the video preview I will have a 'Start Capture' button that allows the users to capture what they are seeing and hearing to an avi file (320x240, 25fps) until they press the 'End capture' button. While capturing it still needs to display the preview.
If possible would anyone be able to point me to some simple sample code, or email me some. (paul AT fenwd DOT co DOT uk)

    Paul

  • No preview when capturing to DVD

    Hi,
I've got the NX6600GT AGP & apart from all the input/output leads being incorrectly labeled, it's also got a few other funny things. When capturing video straight to DVD using WINDVD Creator 2, the preview screen goes blank while recording is in progress. Once you stop recording the preview returns. The captured video is perfect with sound & all, but with the video preview dissappearing while recording you are unable to see what in fact you are recording. Has anyone else had a similar problem? The program works as I have it installed on my other computer with a Leadtek A240. Many brains make light work of problems, hope I've just overlooked something.
    cheers

Yes, I thought about that option. Although this preview function should be set as default as it worked on the other sytem without any adjustment. Surely the preview should work because you can't see what you are recording. I have just tried it with the software that came bundled with the card also. The bundled software is called WINDVD Creator Plus & doesn't allow for burning directly to DVD but does allow to HDD. This software also removes the preview when capturing to Hard Disk. Now I might be a little harsh here, but isn't this stuff supposed to be tested before being placed in the marketplace?? I'll send an email to MSI & see what they have to say. I've also tried installing previous versions of the WDM drivers & crossbar drivers. I grabbed the disk for my old video card which has WDM drivers from 2002 ( it's also VIVO & chipset by Nvidia) but it still removed the preview. Time to step it up. Has anyone else experimented with this software & got it to work?? Would like to hear from you.
    cheers

  • Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500. HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs. Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500.
HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs.
Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

  • Final Cut Express...Audio monitoring while capturing video.

Does anyone know how to monitor audio while capturing?

You might try posting in the FCE forum, very few Express users here in the Final Cut Pro forum.
In FCP, the function—and limitations—is clearly explained in the manual. I hope Apple's FCE manual and online help system are as thorough.
