No Previews Show On Catalog Import to LR4

I need some help. I've just imported my catalog from version 3. No problem with the import, all the collections etc came in just fine with all the right number of photos, organization etc. However there are no previews. Not one! I have just had my computer updated to SSD, so my drive names have changed from before. ie the file structure that used to be on C are now on G. I would have thought that the photos would all show as missing and that I'd need to reconnect them, and find all missing photos. How do I locate the previews that aren't showing if nothing is showing as missing? Thanks for your help!

Preview rendering on catalog import?

If I import from a catalog that was exported without previews, I see no way to have LR render the previews upon import like it can with imports from files. Am I missing something here?

I don't believe so Lee Jay, you need to select all and render previews manually AFAIK.

Error message while importing upgraded LR3 catalog to new LR4 catalog

I'm using a Win7 x64 system, 3Ghz Xeon dual core, 8 GB ram system. After upgrading a LR3 catalog to LR4, it would not display all images in GRID VIEW in the upper level folders. i.e. D:/Photos/2011. It will display the images in the 2011 folder but not in the Photos folder. And yes I do have the "Show Photos in SubFolders" selected.
By importing this updated LR4 catalog to a new LR4 catalog the display problem disappears. However, I get an error message at the end of the import saying that "Lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error." This occurs after it says it is importing updated keywords. But, as compared to the LR3 catalog, the new LR4 catalog shows the correct number of images in the catalog, shows the correct number of collections and seems to have all the keywords in the keyword list panel.
Because there seems to be some sort of catalog database upgrade error, I am hesitant to use LR4 for production at this time. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this error might be, or a work around for the error so I can be confident in my LR4 catalog?

I've pgraded to LR4.1 RC1 and then created a new catalog, imported from my original LR3 cat. It updated that temporary cat and then imported to the new LR4 cat without issues or error messages. I then just did an upgrade to my original LR3 cat and saved it in another location. Upgrade went without hitch or error messages and I am now using that catalog. So far, so good with the new candidate.

I'm trying to bring PSE8 catalogs in to LR4.2 but I do not see the 'upgrade catalog' command in the file pulldown as shown in the LR4 tutorials.

did you try to import the images directly from disk? Does PSE actually have a catalogue?

Compressor2 Preview shows BLACK BOXES on LT & RT for 16:9 vd

My video project was shot on Canon XL2 16:9 Widescreen. I import the QT reference file into Compressor 2 from FCP5, in the Preview window, the Preview shows BLACK BOXES on Left & Right . Is it supposed to be like that in the Preview for a widescreen 16:9 video? If yes, cool. If not, how can I fix it?

Previews change one file import has finished

I started with LR 1.0 and now have LR 2.2, however, I have never seen this happen before. When I import my RAW files, the previews show up correctly in the library module. Once the import has finished, the previews start to change one by one as if LR is updating them. Each preview becomes overexposed with increased noise...not a lot of noise but an increased amount. If I export the RAW files as a jpeg, I get a file that is overexposed with inscreased noise!
When I look at the exact same RAW file using Faststone Image View or Bibble, the previews are fine and look like the RAW file! If I export using these packages, the JPEG files look fine as well. So, what am I doing wrong in LR 2.2? My monitor resolution is 1680 dpi. Therefore, I have the preview option set to "1680, High" for the rendering. I might also add that the overexposure and increased noise are also seen in the Develope module which says it has rendered it to 1:1. I am using a 2.3GHz computer with 2GB of RAM. My camera is a SONY A700. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You should make sure you turn off auto-tone in the preferences and to reset any camera defaults you might have defined. Also make sure you are not applying a preset on import.

Previewing Pages document in Preview shows page numbers incorrectly

Previewing Pages (5.2) document in Preview (7.0) shows page numbers incorrectly. Regardless of starting page number preview shows as Page 1.

That appears to be YABIP5 (Yet Another Bug In Pages 5].
Pages .09 documents are fine.
No prizes however for finding bugs in Pages 5/5.2 it's swarming with them.

Files Renamed when importing to LR4 and now can't find them in LR3

Help! What should I do???
Yesterday I installed LR 4 Beta. I had a folder with 300 images in it on LR 3, obviously all files had names. I imported these photos into LR4 to work with LR4 and they were renamed in the process. Now in my LR3 folder, all the files still have there old names and the "missing photo ?" and I assume that's because the name has been changed and LR3 can't find them. Any thoughts on an easy fix?

I must admit, I didn't pay too much attention when importing this "test"
group of photos to LR4, therein lies my problem. Now that I look at the
import settings that were used:
1. Files were not added or copied, they were "moved" to a new location and
also renamed.
2. Files were renamed starting with "264" using my regular import template.
Listed below are the first 10 photos with their original LR3 and he
changed LR4 names.
1201_001 changed to 1201_264-2
1201_002 changed to 1201_265-2
1201_003 changed to 1201_266-2
1201_004 changed to 1201_267-2
1201_005-Edit-Edit changed to 1201_268-2
1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_269-2
1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_270-2
1201_005-Edit-Edit-2 changed to 1201_271-2
I have a back up of my images on an EHD from several days ago which has the
original file names, but this backup only has 203 of the 268 images I
imported yesterday and are renamed.

In two page view preview shows the first page on its own

In two page view preview shows the first page on its own. I have recently downloaded an ebook which has image based tutorials and the pages are in such a way that pages 3 and 4 should be seen next to each other. Preview seems to want to have pages 1 on its own therefore making this rather difficult. Any help on resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Try selecting the first page, and then from the "Edit" menu select "insert blank page". This should put a blank page at the beginning of the document, shifting all pages down one and putting them in the order you want for your display.

Preview shows only one page of article

I have a 23-page portrait-only article for which I can preview only one page. Normally it is the first page, but if I click on any other page, the preview shows that page -- but the slider on the bottom of Content Viewer shows only the first page regardless of what page is in the preview window. I'm a newbie at this, and this is my second article; the first one worked just fine. Put them together in a folio, in either order, and the "normal" one shows all pages, and the other shows only page 1. Any thoughts?

Silly newbies... I read some of the layout options in Plain English. Apparently, if the article isn't set to "horizontal swipe only" it's on vertical swipe only, not "optional." The Aha! moment came from accidentally brushing the mouse so that the preview scrolled upward, revealing the pages hidden below. Now I get it.

Preview shows blank pages

I've just received a 13 page pdf file. Opening it with Preview showed me 13 blank pages. Opening it with Acrobat showed me the pages as they are supposed to look. What's going on? Why can't Preview show the contents? (The file was created on a PC, if that's relevant, by scanning in the pages, but I don't know the procedure after that.)
I'm using 10.3.9, all updates installed, on a G4/1.25 PowerBook.

I can't explain the anomaly, but I experience similar problems with Preview when I attempt to view PDF docs that are created by my company, and also by a friend who is a missionary in Cameroon Africa (who I presume is using a PC to create the PDF docs...). I'm guessing that the program that creates their PDFs is causing the 'headache' for our version of Preview...
The PDFs created by my company will not be 'searchable', and most of the text of PDFs created by my friend will be unreadable by Preview.
Of note, an associate who uses Tiger, does not seem to have the same problems with his version of Preview...

What installing the twain plug-in, you mean? Go to your applications folder. Find the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 folder. Look in there for a folder called support files, then for a folder called optional plugins. In the Optional Plugins folder, there should be a folder called ImportModules. Just drag that from the Optional Plugins folder to the regular Plugins folder.
This will be infinitely easier to do if you put your applications folder window into list view, not the default icon view. To do that, click this button at the top of the window:

When I show a document using full screen (or slideshow) in Preview, it shows two pages at a time. I just want to show one at a time, but can't find anything that lets me specify this. There is no relevant Preference that I can see, and if I check single page in view and then choose full screen or slideshow in view, the first page is displayed fine, but then subsequent pages are displayed two up.

Thanks. It looks like I didn't quite make my question clear enough, though.
I want to show a multi-page document one page at a time. If I open it and choose "full screen" in view, I get the first page showing just fine. But if I then use the arrow to go to the second page, Preview shows two pages (#2 and 3), and then continues to show the rest of the document two pages at a time when I advance using the arrow.
I want to show one page at a time, and be able to advance to the next page using the arrow.
Can I do this in Preview?

Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder?

I'm trying to make the transfer from using iPhoto to using Aperture.
One thing I found really great in iPhoto was the smart folder that was simply set to show the last import, no matter when that import was done - whether it was today, yesterday or 6 months ago.
The reason I found this so handy was because I set my iPad up in iTunes to only sync the photos from that Last Import smart folder, rather than all my photos.
That way, every time I synced my iPad, I always had my most recent photos on my iPad, no matter when the pictures were taken.
Now with Aperture, I cannot see a way to create anything similar. The best I can do is to create a smart folder with photos imported within the last month, let's say.
But the problem with that is that if I haven't imported any new photos for over a month, then the next time I sync my iPad, then all my photos will no longer be on the iPad.
If I create a longer timeframe, to let's say 3 months, then I might end up with way too many photos trying to sync across, and that's something I don't want. I could end up with hundreds and hundreds of photos, and I don't have the free space to be able to do this!
When I used "Last Import" with iPhoto, then I always only had around 50 or 60 photos, because that's just generally how many I usually imported at any one time. Sometimes it was more, sometimes less, but the average worked for me.
So to sum up: Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder, regardless of date?
Or alternatively, is there any way I could "hack" or "trick" Aperture into doing something like this so that I always have a managable amount of the most recent photos on my iPad?

that does not seem to be an easy probem as you discovered.
Some Workarounds:
You might to use a smart album rule "Import session is" instead of a date range, but that will not be automatic.
Create a folder "recently added" and keep your recent projects inside that folder; create a smart album at the top level of that folder; move older projects somewhere else.
Or enable the Photo Stream - that is the current replacement for the "most recently added" album; it will (is supposed to) always show the most recent 1000 images.
If you are familiar with AppleScript, you can make Aperture run an AppleScript on import (Import Settings) to add your imported image to an album of new images. From time to time remove the older images.
Sorry, but no really convenient way to do it..

After selecting File > Print, a pop-up window should appear. Select "Customize" and this should take you back into a panel within iPhoto. Towards the bottom, you should see an option for "Layout". Select this option and choose the correct photo orientation.
