No Print Center in OSX

Hello,
I used to value the Print Center in OS9 using a Epson C80 as well as the Utilities. Is there any way I can install the Print Center/Utilities in the Print menu ? It used to come up as one of the options when you went into Print. I can open the Utilities which gives the condition of ink carts, etc. but there is no Print Monitor function.
Thanks for ANY help !
Jack Howe

I have an old Epson printer myself. Stylus Photo 750. It uses the open source Gutenprint driver for this printer instead of the one from Epson. It does not give me all the features I remember from the Mac OS 9 driver, but it does a good job of printing. There was an Epson driver, but support ended with 10.1 or 10.2. It's possible that it would work with a later OS release, but I'm happy with the Gutenprint driver. Those ink level indicators tend to underestimate how much ink you have left to make you replace the cartridge before you need to. I just keep using it with the same cartridge until the output starts to fade, and then put the new one in.
Check which driver you are using by clicking the Info button on the printer's queue window. If it's not Epson's own driver, take a look on Epson's support page. I just searched their drivers page for "Stylus C80" and found they have Mac OS X driver support through Tiger (10.4.x). If you download install the appropriate driver from Epson, you may get those additional functions back.

  • Printer Setup Utility/Print Center Missing

Occasionally my Epson 2200 loses its settings and I get an error message through the Epson software telling me the ink set is different from the one in the printer when it was installed (it's not) and that I need to open the Printer Setup Utility, uninstall the printer and reinstall it. Usually if I delete the job and resend it, the printer works, but tonight after repeated tries the error persisted. So I went to reinstall the printer and there's no Printer Setup Utility or Print Center Utility.
    Huh? Where would it go?
Do I just have to reinstall OSX or is there a quicker fix?
    I'm using OS X 10.5.8 on a 2.8 GHz Quad Core machine.
    Thanks in advance,

I believe that the "Printer Setup Utility" disappeared with Mac OS X 10.5. Since then all printer setup is done in the "Print & Fax" panel of System Preferences.

  • CUPS & Print Center problem

    Hi all,
I did a ForceQuit of Firefox 2.0.0.20 after it got stuck on a website, and now I can't print anything from Firefox. The Print Dialog window comes up and instead of my printer showing up as the default selected printer, only "No Printer Selected" is displayed. When I select "Edit Printer List", Print Center comes up and indeed shows my printer, but nothing seems to get Firefox to update itself to know about my printer.
What's really odd, is that I can print from all the other apps I've tried (eg. Word, Safari, TextEdit).
I also tried the usual re-installing (from a backup tape) the drivers in /Library/Printers, but no change. I also created a new profile in Firefox, also no change. Still no printer is known to Firefox. Safari, Word and the rest all still see and can use my printer.
When I type "about:config" in Firefox's address bar, I see the "print.print_printer" field with nothing in the value field. When I right-click the print_printer field and fill in the IP address of my printer and re-start Firefox, still no printer is known to Firefox.
More oddly, when I bring up Print Center directly, and click on the "Add Printer" button, Print Center itself crashes.
When I look in /var/log/cups/error_log , I see only "getprinterattrs: resource name '/printers/ ' no good!" as the error message.
Also, in /var/log/cups/page_log , since I've started having problems w/Firefox printing, the index of the print job re-set to 1 from my old index no.:
    A_B_CD ed 9374 [06/Apr/2009:14:40:57 -0700] 1 1
    A_B_CD ed 1 [10/Apr/2009:12:02:28 -0700] 1 1
I've looked in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox and other places for some plist file that Firefox uses to get it's list of available printers, but nothing stands out to me.
Does anyone know where CUPS and/or Print Center on Mac OSX 10.2.8 stores it's list of available printers on a per application level, are stored?
Any tips, or ideas, as to where to look next to solve this printing problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Ed

I'm probably the most inexperienced person here, but from this website:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_print … erJet_1012
it appears that the 1012 isn't fully supported or it just doesn't work like it should.  I quote from their website:
Unfortunately, the new LaserJet 1010/1012 series seems not to be absolutely compatible with older HP printers or it has a firmware bug. Sometimes it happens that the printer stops working and reports the error "Unsupported Personality: PCL". It only continues working when one kills the job and power-cycles the printer.
Anyways, I'm not sure it will work until someone does some tinkering with the drivers.
Probably not the most helpful post, but I just wanted to increase my post count.
    Best of luck!

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

Hi, thaks for response, meant to post as a discussion (not question), wanted to save others time if they get the same problem

  • Options for printer configurations have disappeared from Print Center

    Hello,
Checked through the past messages but couldn't find anything appropriate to fix the problem. I'm totally baffled by this this one, but you guys have never let me down before, so here goes.
I'm using 10.3.9 and a HP LaserJet 2200dn connected via an Airport Extreme Base. I've hooked up the printer via a USB cable to the Base. I have connectivity to my Powerbook G4. I'm trying to print via MS Word (Office 2004 ed).
I had deleted some stuff off my harddrive -- because I thought I had a virus of some sort. I must've deleted some essential files, because I started having problems. I was also having problems printing (even though I had, at that time, my HP LaserJet option available to me in Print Center).
Thus, after, I reinstalled 10.3.9 (after transfering essential files and erasing the HD).
I thought this would do the trick. But I still have no option to select the HP Printer. "Rendezvous" is in the "menu bar" though I've tried every other option. I've also downloaded the appropriate driver from the HP site and installed it, but no luck.
Configuring the printer used to be so easy with the Mac, and now I'm at a loss to know what's gone wrong.
I hope I've described the problem correctly. Anyone out there with some insight would receive my gratitude and appreciation!
    Thanks.

    Ali,
I'm not sure what driver you are referring to in your last message.
The driver that I downloaded was HPLaserJetv5_52.dmg and I clicked it on and installed it.
I took the Mac into the Genius Bar at the Apple store. They tested everything except USB ports, which I had tested myself. They said I could bring the printer in too, if I wanted.
So far, they think it's not the machine itself because they were able to configure printers over their airport network with my Powerbook. They were able to print from my machine onto their printers.
So -- they suggested I try again. They also suggested I try using Ethernet -- bypassing the USB stuff -- just to check.
A guy who I know also said to create a text file and send unix commands directly to printer to print something. Just to rule out MacOS X software.
I don't know if the above will help anyone else.
I'm messing around with stuff here -- but unfortunately, can't afford to spend much more time on it. (But neither can I afford to "spend" a lot of money having a consultant fix it either!).
I wonder if my HP printer needs to be "reset" or something like.
    WIll check it out.
It was so easy when I first set this up: it was simply plug and play. Now it's not.
Thanks again to all in this thread who've tried to help.

  • Print Center / Printer Setup Utility missing

My refurb iMac had its entire logic board replaced several weeks ago. Since then I have not been able to use my Epson Stylus Photo R280 printer. Turns out that somehow my utilities called Print Center and also Printer Setup Utility have disappeared from my computer. Because it is a holiday, I am unable to to contact Apple Care by phone. I tried to locate a place on my Leopard install disk where it lists zillions of single items which I could chose to install, but can not find it. I am hoping that someone in here can direct me where to look. My Brother HL 2140 is working fine. I'm stumped.
    Holly

Got a reply from Epson. Even though I originally told them the printer was hooked up to a wireless Airport Extreme Base Station, they seemed to ignore that fact. But, finally they came up with this excuse:
    Response (Stephan R) 08/21/2008 11:19 AM
The Epson Status Monitor requires constant bidirectional communication with the Host for it to function properly. The Airport Extreme only allows a one way communication, so when the Epson Status Monitor tries to update the Host with the proper ink levels you will receive a communication error.
So, I guess that you can't use the print utility from a wireless connection, I hooked the printer to one of my Macs and added the printer to the Utility there. The utility works there, but I have to reconnect the printer to the Airport Extreme and visa versa to make they whole thing functional. Oh, well.

  • No Print Center

I just tried to add a new Epson (RX620)printer. I installed the printer software as indicated. When directed to go to applications/utilities/print center to select this printer - no print center app can be found. I cannot add or select a printer from anywhere. Did I somehow loose this or is my info outdated? I've tried reinstalling the printer software and fixing permissions. No good.
    Someone suggested fixamac software.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Is Printer Setup Utility there? Print Center was changed to Printer Setup Utility some time ago. If Printer Setup Utility is not there, you should probably use Pacifist (versiontracker.com) to reinstall Printer Setup Utility.
    Hope this helps

  • How do you find print center in iOS7 to check if a page is stuck in the queue?

My iPads had been printing fine up until today. I had a glitch with my Air Print printer. It has been resolved and two out of my three iPads can't find the printer now. I've looked around on the internet and remembered in iOS 6 the ability to find Print Center was easy. But how do I find it in iOS 7 when my iPad can't find the Air Printer in the first place? I want to check to see if a job is stuck in the queue and that is causing the error message.

This article says it better then I can.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
    From the article.
    Viewing the Print Summary
You can view the Print Summary by double-tapping the Home button and swiping to the right to reveal Printer Center. Then tap Print Center.
Note: Print Center is available only while printing is in progress.

  • Thank you. I did not realize that there was a print center on my iPhone 5,I was sending it too many jobs back to back,

Thank you for your response. My iPhone 5 is now air printing. I found out that there is a print center on my iPhone and I was overloading it by sending it too many jobs at once.

  • Can't delete shared printer in Print Center.

I recently bought an AirPort Express after using the Snow White AirPort for over three years. I wanted a faster transfer rate. I connect my Epson Stylus C86 to my ethernet hub. The new AirPort connects to the hub as well. I have a DSL modem connected to the Ethernet hub also. My iMac has an AirPort Card, the slower one. I was able to print from a new PowerBook G4, a Dell Inspiron 8500, and my iMac G4 after connecting the printer. I shut down all computers and when I next tried to print I couldn't, nor could I figure what had happened so I connected my printer to my iMac G4 but my PowerBook G4 could not see the printer even though I had turned on print sharing on my iMac G4. I then connected the printer to my PowerBook G4 and my iMac saw the printer. It printed. I then turned off my printer and forgot to turn it back on before printing another document on my iMac. When I did, the documents showed up in the print list for the shared printer connected to the PB but of course didn't print. I turned the printer on again and eventually the documents printed off of the printer but did not go away in the list of documents on the iMac waiting to be printed by the shared printer. I could not delete them nor could I delete the shared printer from my list in the Print Center of my iMac. None of the icons are active in the Print Center for the Shared Printer. I looked in the Apple Support section and found an article about this that referred me to http://127.0.0.1:631/jobs. I went to this page and saw the two documents listed, I clicked Cancel but the page that this went to said "Error: client-error-forbidden."
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the two documents in the Print Center? Is there some document on either the PowerBook or the iMac that can be deleted?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried temporarily disabling printing sharing via the Sharing System Preference (letting others using your network know ahead of time), and then trying to delete it?

  • Print center is missing from my iPadSettings scree

I am trying to delete print jobs from my iPad running the new IOs 8.  The User guide says hit the Home button twice, then tap on Print Center.  There is no Print Center.  Double tapping Home only brings up the open apps, and Print Center is not there.  What do I do?  I searched for that app but it is nowhere, not even in Settings.  Am I doing something wrong?  Or do I need to go see a Genius?  Thanks!  Matthew

  • Print center

Updated operating system from OS 9.9.2 to OS 10.1.3. There are no printers in the print center. The error message is "print center has unexpectedly quit" when attempting to add a printer. Loaded the Epson Stylus Photo 820 software, but still no printer are listed in the print center. What's wront? The printer will work when loading OS 9.9.2.

Updated operating system from OS 9.9.2 to OS 10.1.3.
    Problem #1. I'd get the 10.1.5 updater.
There are no printers in the print center. The
error message is "print center has unexpectedly
quit" when attempting to add a printer.
There were a number of problems with Print Center in 10.1.x. I'd run Disk Utility, and Disk Warrior if you have it, and repair the disk. I'd also repair permissions. (Not likely to do much, but won't hurt.)
Also, go here <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21738> and dig out Print Center Repair. It fixes a lot of problems.
    Loaded the
Epson Stylus Photo 820 software, but still no
printer are listed in the print center.
Almost certainly you installed the OS 9 drivers. That doesn't do a thing for OS X. Epson has drivers for the 820, for OS X 10.1.3 to 10.2.6. Make sure you installed those drivers.
    What's
wront? The printer will work when loading OS 9.9.2.
Print Center is screwed. PCR will fix most problems. Try it. Then add the 820 and you should be okay.

  • Lost print center

Can someone please help me get my print center back. I moved the icon to the dock a while back and then decided to move it out. I can still print but no print center. Looked everywhere for it. Tried to do software reinstall but didn't make a difference. What can I do besides reinstalling macos x?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

If the Print Center is still in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, drag it back into the Dock. If it is not in the Utilities folder, use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X installation disks, and then rerun the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.
