NO printer driver works after reinstalling OSX, including pdf

I can't get my computer to print to ANYTHING including to PDF ever since I reinstalled OSX. I have a canon printer and put the drivers in every library I could see (the user one and the non user one?) but it isn't showing up for setting up a printer, AND it's saying I can't even print to pdf.

I am having a similar problem on a mac mini. I recently had a crash, clean installed OSX from disc, updated everything (10.4.10), then after a few days, nothing prints, not on my canon ip 4300). i cannot open print & fax preferences. when i try i get this message "You cannot open Print & Fax preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version." i would like to not have to clean install again as it takes me at least a day to get everything back on.
I'd run Disk Utilities and repair disk (not just permissions) if I were you.
And you don't have to do a 'clean install', you could just do an Archive & Install instead. But I'd do that only after checking with DU.

  • Time Machine no longer working after reinstalling OSX 10.5 w/TM backup

About a week ago Disc Utility told me I had serious problems with my HD structure and a reinstall was necessary. Fortunately, restoring everything using Time Machine was flawless, however Time Machine has not done a single backup since. The Backup.backupdb file is still there on the external drive, along with 6 other folders created at the time I did the reinstall (same names as the 6 inside the subfolder, system, library, users...). If I try to manually do a TM backup it tells me I don't have enough HD space as though it wants to start from scratch, when the folders are all still there from before the reinstall.
Any ideas why Time Machine no longer recognizes the files it created 2 weeks ago?

I had to reinstall Leopard and restore using TM. It also worked flawless for me. When I checked to see if it was backing up again, there was nothing. I also tried to manually back and that didn't work either. I went into System Preferences, Time Machine and had to choose my TM backup drive again. Once I did that it worked perfect.

  • Cannot download Cs3 web premium after reinstalling osx LION

    Hello, I'm new here.
The Adobe chat gave me a link to download cs3, after reinstalling OSX Lion for a problem on my macbook pro. But the link give an error, they sayd maybe because on the same disk was already installed the same cs3?
How can I proceed to download?
    Thank you so much

While CS3 is said to run under Lion, it's likely to run poorly compared to CS6. Any link they gave you should have been valid. You could have installation problems after a successful download. You could try running the installer in the Utilities folder and first removing what is left of your previous installation.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 doesn't work after reinstalled the OS 10.6.8?

iPhoto 8.1.2 doesn't work after reinstalled OS 10.6.8?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in printing the report after exporting it to pdf format using Hyperion Interactive Reporting 9.3.1. I have set page size of report section to 11X17 inch landscape. Now I am exporting this report section to pdf. Report gets exported to pdf with size 11X17 inch landsacpe. But when I am trying to print this pdf it is shrinking the documnet size to A4 size paper and printing it rather it should print it on 11X17 inch paper size. Please suggest if there is fix available for this issue.
    Thanks

I think this issue is only to do with the printer and not IR.
I think the question now is "Can your printer print 11X17 pages or not".

  • Duplex printing not working after installing HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1

    Hi,
our printers (Lexmark T622, HP Laserjet 2200, both equipped with a duplex unit) are managed by printer queues on our Mac OS X Server (10.5.5). Our users (mostly having Mac Books running 10.5.4 or 10.5.5) are printing by sending their jobs to the queues on the Mac OS X Server (via IPP/TCP/IP).
    So far so good.
It seems that the users who have installed the "HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1" aren't able to do duplex-printouts anymore. All sheets that leave the printers are printed on one side only - the "Duplex" setting by these clients is just ignored. Users who haven't installed the update yet, don't have the problem (at least it seems to me like this, but I have to admit that I've tested it with only three different Mac Books, yet).
    My questions are:
    - Has anybody else observed this behaviour, yet?
    - Or, even better, does anybody have a solution to it? Reinstalling the printer on an affected client doesn't solve it. That's what I tried already.
    - Is there any possibility to make the printer driver update "undone", which means to do a kind of downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1?
Thank you very much in advance!

  • How do I connect to my external hard drive after reinstalling OSX?

I just reinstalled OSX 10.5, then upgraded to 10.5.8 on my Powerbook.  Both my external hard drive and iDisk are locked, and won't let me open them.  I went to information for each disk, authenticated, but it won't let me change permissions for either disk.  Help!

    Tom,
Thank you for your advice.  I did that for the external hard drive, but it still won't let me open the drive.  I'm stuck because my iTunes and iPhoto libraries as well as Time Machine all are on the external.  It also won't let me open my iDisk.

  • Epson printer not working after maverick 10.9.5 update

I recently updated my 2011 Macbook Pro with the OSX 10.9.5 software. Since then I have had a lot of trouble printing on my EPSON NX430 small in one wireless printer. I have tried deleting the printer from the printer list as well as removing the EPSON software, and re-downloading the EPSON print driver package from the apple website again. When I go to add the printer, in the print list, it seems to see it, but can't automatically find the print driver (I have to manually assign it.) When added the printer appears to be on "idle" and when I try to print the job seems to be sent though (the printer returns to idle) but nothing prints! I'm at my wits end with this - it is so annoying, and I've spent way too much time trying to troubleshoot. I do NOT recommend updating to Maverick!

Try some generic maintenance (we're trying to avoid reinstalling OS X):
Restart into Safe Mode, which does some system repairs. When it's finished, restart normally.
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    Next, Reset the Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Now, add the printer in Print & Scan prefs.
(PS - even if this doesn't fix it, it eliminates many possible glitches for troubleshooting. The things you've done just scratched the surface.)
BTW - you didn't need to download the Epson package. The new Apple driver paradigm is that the driver is automagically installed when you add the printer in Print & Scan prefs. And if that doesn't work, you have other issues with OS X.

  • Reimporting imovies after reinstalling OSX

I was working on an imovie when I experienced a crash. After much trial and tribulation, I was able to access the partition where all my files were saved, move them to an external hd and reinstall OSX. Now I want to resume work on said imovie, and even though I can find the previous imovie files for it, I can't seem to import them into iMovie, any help?

Were the lost files all on your internal hard drive? If so, move your Project files and folders to a Folder on your hard drive called Macintosh HD/(User Name)/Movies/iMovie Projects/
Move the Events to a folder on your internal hard drive called Macintosh HD/(user name)/Movies/iMovie Events
    Then restart imovie.

  • Epson printer stopped working after yosemite

All of a sudden, after Apple autoupdate installed yosemite update and new epson drivers, my printer will only print first line of a document.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling printer, repairing and verifying drive, deleting printer library files, unplugging, rebooting... nothing is working. Does anyone have a solution for me? Help!

My Epson WF-4360 "lost it's mind" after being accidentally unplugged for most of a day.
The printer DID work from Yosemite both before and after the "loss of power"
The printer DID work from iOS before the loss of power ... but stopped working after that
ALL the printer status reported to be fine -- showed the wi-fi network address and connection ... but was NOT discoverable from iOS
    This fix resolved the issue:
Find the wi-fi IP address of the printer -- either from the printer or the network (mine was a local IP ... 10.0.1.n)
Go to Safari on the iOS device -- enter the IP address of the printer
Scroll down to the BASIC SETTINGS on the left side menu
Scroll down to the AirPrint Setup button ... click to start
Click OK -- to advance through the menus ... two separate browser pages for me
You will see AirPrint "Setup Complete"
From iOS ... the printer is now discoverable.

  • PDF Printer went missing after clean OSX install

    Hey,
In Adobe Illustrator - I used to have a choice of printers between my Epson and printing to a PDF.
I had to reinstall Mac OSX 10.5.5 (Leopard) and now don't have the PDF printer option.
I found the FAQ regarding precious versions of OSX - but neither solution worked.
I was using the PDF printer fine before my re-install, now it's just missing.
    Where can I find it?
    Thanks!

One last thing. After reinstalling the CS 3 suite, you need to run the
updater to fix compatibility issues with 10.5. You may need to run the
    updater several times.

  • Canon S750 printer not working after upgrading to Leopard

Leopard is brilliant, and everything works after I upgraded from Tiger except... my Canon S750 printer gives error messages and fails to print. This is VERY annoying. I can't seem to find an S750 driver for OS X 10.5 on Canon's web site. So, what to do next? Just wait, and keep logging on to Canon's web site in the hope that, one day, the driver will be there? I can't find any official statement from Canon as to what they're up to. Are they currently working on drivers for Leopard? Do they have any projected "release dates"? Are they at all interested, or would they prefer to sell me another printer perhaps? Any information on what I should do now will be gratefully received. Thanks.

UPDATE... my S750 printer has suddenly started to print OK! This is rather bizarre, since I've not re-booted, haven't un-installed/re-installed the printer. End of topic!

Another issue is that on OKI's site, my model is no longer listed when searching for drivers to download!

Back to GCC printer. Just cannot get it to work.
But I cannot figure out what the IP address is for the GCC printer. Tried 192.168.1.4:9300
See post (discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10127869). Still did not work.
GCC tech have this work around. Here is what I received from GCC via email.
    +At 01/02/2010 12:21 AM we wrote -+
+Since Apple has made the decision to eliminate Appletalk from it's Operating System, you are now forced to set the printer up over TCP/IP. Please keep in mind that GCC has never provided drivers for the Mac. We use the Apple Built in Print Driver. We do provide an OS X PPD Installer located on our website that I recommend you download, unstuff, install, reboot your Mac, then add the printer. You can find the Installer at http://www.gccprinters.com/support/doc/ Click on the Model of your printer and download the OS X Installer. DO NOT download the Applications Folder.+
+You will need to set the printer up over TCP/IP, which means you will need to pull the IP Address of the printer from the Printers Configuration Page. Once you've done that, please do the following:+
+You can add the printer over IP, that should work fine. Here are some steps for you to take.+
+1) Select 'System Preferences...' (4th item) from the 'Apple' menu. The 'System Preference' panel will appear as a new window.+
+2) Click on 'Print & Fax' icon (second row 'Hardware', second icon from right side). The 'System Preferences' panel will change into the 'Print & Fax' panel without opening a new window.+
+3) Click on the '+' button to add a printer (2/3 the way down on the left side on the 'Print & Fax' panel). The 'Add Printer' dialog will open in a new window.+
+4) Select the 'IP' icon in the top row of the 'Add Printer' dialog.+
+5) Next to 'Protocol' select LPD Line Printer Daemon.+
+6) Next to 'Address' type in the IP address you assigned to the printer. The Mac should prompt "complete and valid address".+
+7) (Optionally) Next to 'Name' set the name of the printer to something friendlier. Normally it defaults to the IP address enter in the previous step. The 'Name' is what the printer is called in the print dialog.+
+8) (Optionally) Next to 'Print Using' change/verify the PPD.+
+9) Click 'Add' in the bottom right corner. After a few moments the 'Add Printer' dialog will close.+
+10) The printer added in the previous step will appear in the list on the left side of the 'Print & Fax' panel. Click on the close box in the left-top of the 'Print & Fax' panel.+
+11) Done. You should be ready to print.+
Still cannot get the GCC printer to work or discover its IP address. Printer's Configuration page says
TCP/IP: Enabled IP address: Unknown subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
When I download the Drivers from GCC Web Site I only get a Text Document with loads of meaningless
gibberish. There is nothing to unstuff and install.
All worked well with OS 10.5.
    Thanks for shedding any light.
    John L.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
At this stage you will not be able to get this to print until the printer has a valid IP address. According to your post, the IP address setting is enabled but the actual IP address is unknown. This is most likely a result of the GCC being set to DHCP but if there is no DHCP server or router capable of assigning the printer an IP address, then it will not get a valid address.
So, the first thing I recommend is you check the documentation for manually setting an IP address into the printer. This address needs to be in the same subnet as your Mac. If you check System Preferences > Network on the Mac, you will see your IP address and subnet mask. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, then you subnet will be the first three sets of numbers. For example, a device with an IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 19.2.168.1 and a network address of 12. Ideally, so that other devices can communicate with this device, they also need a subnet of 192.168.1 but a different network address, any number between 1 and 250 but one that is not already being used by another device, such as 12 in this example.
Once you have the IP address set in the printer, then you add the printer as the GCC tech stated, using IP > LPD for the protocol. Note that you will only need to enter the IP address, such as 192.168.1.4 as per your post example. Don't enter any other numbers, such as the 9300 port reference you have tried already the colon after the IP address followed by the 9300).
For the Print Using, you can use Generic PostScript to begin with as a test. If you then wanted to use the GCC PPD, then the link is okay. When you select the 21+n the next page shows the 21+ installer for OS 9 and OS X. This is a stuffit packed file so you will need some form of Stuffit (Stuffit Expander is a free download) to unpack the file first. Once unpacked, there is most likely an installer that you run. This will copy the PPD files for the printer to the appropriate folder.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you require more help.
