No printing over USB after update to 10.5.7

Dear Technicians (Apple & Others)
After update to Mac OS X 10.5.7, my Samsung CLP-550 Printer doesn't print anymore over USB.
The other printer I have which is conected trough WLAN does still work.
I need the laser printer to do my dayly business. Is there a way to get back to 10.5.6 without installing everything new or is there an other solution to fix that behavior which is a master downgrade?
Kind regards from Switzerland
Thomas Thaler

Christopher,
That VM Fusion suggestion did the trick for me.
I have an older HP Laserjet 3200 (not the 3200m version where M=Mac!). I've had to install the Gutenprint V5.2.4 Print drivers as well as the usbtb print drivers (http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/) in order to get this non-supported HP printer to print, but it has been happily printing for over a year now through a few upgrades to Mac OS X 10.5.x. Until the recent 10.5.7 upgrade that is.
After reading your post, I went through my three VMs (bootcamp, a small XP vm, and a Windows 7 beta VM) and after connecting and disconnecting the printer in the Win7 VM, it started to print again from OS X.
I know sooner of later this printer will stop working with Mac OS X, but you have helped delay that issue for a few further upgrades! Thanks!

  • Canon ip4000r stopped printing over usb after update to 10.5.7

    hi there!
i have a canon pixma ip4000r which is connected to my macbook pro via usb.
since the update to 10.5.7 it stopped printing. printer's joblist receives a printjob, displays "printing" but nothing happens. i tried to reinstall the printer but systems preferences are running very slowly/freezing when i plugin the usb cable. when i unplug it everything runs normal.
in addition canons printer tool crashes while trying to connect to the printer.
i have some networkprinters (hp laserjet 4100n) installed as well but they are running fine.
    any suggestions?
    thanks,

    Hello Paul,
I installed the 7 update yesterday on my test Mini using the Combo installer and saw some interesting results.
First of all, any USB printer queue was removed from the Printers list. Only the Adobe PDF and network printer queues remained.
Also, a number of Canon BJPrinter files were updated and added, some of them later versions of existing files, such as the Canon IJ Printer Utility. The strange behavior here was that older versions of the same file were left in the same folder and this is what I believe could be causing you problems.
So, I would suggest you try the following.
    Unplug the iP4000 USB cable
Navigate to Mac HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter and trash the entire contents of this folder.
Navigate to Mac HD/Library/Receipts and trash any Canon IP4000 files.
Empty the Trash and restart the Mac.
Run the iP4000R v4.8.3 driver installer again. This will add the files you need for your printer back into the BJPrinter folder.
Plug the iP4000 USB back into the Mac and see if the printer automatically adds to your printer list. It can take about a minute but if it doesn't then try to add it. Don't be surprised when you do try to add it you get a message stating the printer is already installed.

    Hello all,
I, too, found this oversight on the part of Lenovo to be quite distressing. It is possible to upgrade the X61 BIOS with a USB thumb drive. I have provided directions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=817897
The above tutorial is aimed towards Ubuntu Linux users. However, I believe that users of Vista should be able to follow along. Please let me know if you have any questions... the process is simple enough that it should be possible with any OS out there right now.

  • Problem with printing and scanning after updating to Mavericks for my Photosmart C7180

After updating my macbook pro (mid 2009) to Mavericks, I have found that I can only scan to a jpeg2000 and cannot scan as a tiff or jpeg or anyother format.  I have followed instructions on troubleshooting and have not been able to make anything work ie scanning from preview etc.  I have now uninstalled all the HP software and tried to load it again but software update will not recognise that I do not have the software for my printer.  What do I do now?

Hello Cyd23, welcome to the forums!
I understand you're having issues with scanning since you upgraded to Mavericks. I have looked into this concern for you and found that there is no downloadable driver with the full feature software (scanning software) included for the Photosmart C7180 and Mavericks.
However, there are work around options for scanning that may help and work!
Please see this link for the other methods: OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac
    I hope that helps!

  • Printer not working after update on macbook pro

After updating my Macbook Pro to the latest version, OS X 10.9.5 I now cannot print to my wireless printer which is a Canon MG6350.  The wireless connection to the printer is fine and the wireless connection to the Macbook is fine but they are not connecting together.

  • My imovie had a question mark over it after updating and now imovie is gone.

After updating my imac the imovie icon had a question mark superimposed on it, after clicking on it it disappeared and now imove is gone, how do I retrieve it?

What did you update from and to and how old is the version of iMovie you have?
Sounds like the iMovie you have there is a PPC app which is no longer supported in Lion or Mountain Lion. If that is the case you will need to purchase a new version of the app.

    Hi,
Try rebooting your router by unplugging its power for 30 seconds.
Once the router is up make sure to reboot the printer as well.
If you still cannot print after those steps you may try resetting the printing system:
*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
    Select Print & Scan.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.
Now click the Plus sign, select the printer and try printing again.
As the issue only appear over the network please let me know your router brand and model if the issue persists after completing the steps above.

  • Print HPdeskjet 930C after update Mavericks

    Hi,
my printer HPdeskjet 930C worked very well ( Ethernet + usb) with Mountain Lion.
    I 'm now in Mavericks.
I updated printer driver, it works very well in usb. So I think it's well supported by Mavericks.
But it doesn't work in Ethernet( it's raccorded in usb on a DDiomega -Ethernet servor: I get this message :
736 HPDESKJET930C[1379]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
The dd iomega servor is well recognised in the finder.
    Has anybody an idea ?
    Thanks a lot
    Regards

Seems odd that you had to buy Mavericks as Apple provides it for free.

Can I still print docu at Xerox Docucentre IV2265 or similar module after upgrading?
Check the Xerox web site in your region for a driver for 10.9.
If they don't have a 10.9 driver, but do have one for 10.8 or even 10.7, then you may be able to use that driver. But you may need to get past Gatekeeper to install it.
If they don't have a driver but the printer supports the Postscript or PCL printer languages, then there is a Generic driver for Postscript and PCL included with 10.9 which will let you print with limited function.

  • I can no longer sync my calendar via USB after updating to Mavericks.

Updated to Mavericks, set up iCloud but itunes (11.1.5) will no longer sync calendars with my iphone.
Worked fine under osx10.8 before the update.
I phone is an old 3g running ios 3.1 (yeah, I know it's old) so I realize that wifi syncing will no longer work.
I would like to be able to sync my calendar via USB. Otherwise, sycing music etc via cable still works fine.
Please don't just suggest that I buy a new phone. I will soon. But in the meantime I would like to solve this problem as it has caused me trouble with missed meetings and conflicting timetables.

Yes, there are many posts on it. It is no longer possible in Mavericks to locally sync Calanders and Contacts via USB. Nut there are plenty of alternatives beside iCloud.
    Here are some solutions.

    Here is yet another
If your Mavericks came with anything other than Mavericks pre-installed
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud accounts presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

  • Can't print over USB to Xerox Phaser 3450 using 10.4.9

I am using Mac OS Tiger 10.4.9 and have a Xerox Phaser 3450 printer connected to my Quicksilver G4 via USB.
When I try and print the job spools and the printer whirrs to life, the panel on the printer changes from Ready to saying Printing PS3, then the job ends. Nothing actually gets printed, the little print centre dialog that pops up in the Dock shows the job go from the queue to the completed jobs tab.
    Any ideas?

. . .Entering the thread in midstream--
What printer driver are you trying to use? I scoured the Xerox site for information on this printer. The manual indicates that it can use either PostScript or PCL6 as a printer language.
For PostScript, Xerox has PPDs for CUPS under the Unix drivers. These are in the form of a tarball. You can install the by using using a Control-click on the file and selecting to open with the BOMArchiveHelper or by using the Terminal. If using the Terminal, you can install the files directly by using the command --
    <pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #000; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tar -C /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj <pathToYourDownloadedFile></pre>
You could also try the Generic PCL6 driver that comes with the Gutenprint/Gimp-Print drivers which are probably already on your computer.
These drivers may not give you all the capabilities that you would have if Xerox updated their USB plug-in, but they should allow you to print. I see nothing in the literature that suggests that you cannot use the PostScript via USB. That is the default/stock interface for the printer.

  • Printer Not Working After Update

I saw an auto update from HP that popped up and stated it was to correct current reading errors in the hp printer from the computer?  I NEVER update my printer hardly ever because I KNOW that HP has a reputation for messing up with messages about ink etc.  BUT, I went ahead with this one, just in case!  NOW my printer won't print anything from my laptop, and I am so pissed because I was in the middle of a printing project and my printer was working JUST fine until I did the update!  I swear, I will now have to go buy a NEW FRICKING PRINTER when it was working perfect a few minutes ago!!! GUESS WHAT, I will never by HP printers again!!!!  I have the HP Photo Smart Plus, and it is wireless, and it is about two years old, got it in around 2009.  It always says it's out of ink but yet continues to print just fine for several months over when it says I should replace the ink.  Hmmmmmmm.  Now this!!!!!   What am I supposed to do???  HP isn't going to answer this.  Looks like they set up this conversation to just get FEEDBACK from the public?   I don't have the time to wait for a response from the public or to try and call someone at some odd number and wait on the hold for two hours.  My job is in two hours and I needed my work printed before I went..     I     AM   PISSSSSED!!!!!  How can I ever TRUST  HP again!!!!!!  I could never do an UPDATE with you eVER!!!!!   YOU CRASHED MY PRINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Did I mention how mad I am?????   I am going to tell the world about this!!!  You know why??? You don't care, and you will just ignor this!!!!!   Norine Mungo

Running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.
In the future please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?
Please be aware that this forum is a peer to peer support forum, it is not a direct link to HP support.  Likely if you had called HP your issue could have been resolved in one phone call....

  • No charging over USB after Using Firewire charging - 5G ipod

After charging two 5G ipods (30 & 60G models) with my sons firewire power adaptor (charging is supposed to be supported for 5G models just not syncing) both iPods have not been able to be charged using orginal USB cable supplied through macbook pro and have to be rebooted each time I want to sync them using USB (but still won't charge at same time).
I tried resetting etc...nothing. My connections now gives warning that "ipod is connected to a low-speed USB 1.1 port....you should connect it to a high-speed USB 2.0 port"... Trouble is all of my macs have usb 2.0 and since using the firewire (as a charger) it now thinks they are all USB 1.1 ports.
I have even disconnected the battery on the 30G model but this did not fix it either.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, After 5 hours of charging on my Mac, I plugged it in a brand new PC with USB 2.0 for 3 hours. I even tried reseting the iPod (in case it is a software problem...) When I took the iPod of the PC, the battery level was still at 70% and I still hadn't used the iPod Nano. He just refuses to charge to 100% and won't accept firewire charging. My next step is letting the iPod play for a while (untill batterylevel is red) and then recharging, see if it actually charges.
PS: Could it be that charging the Nano with a firewire adapter messed up anything?
